This series includes Glitchy and my genuine first reactions to entering the Ashlands without much knowledge at all! We were able to coordinate and play on the FIRST day of the Public Test Branch’s release so take that with its own grain of salt. It is not part of any other playthrough and is a standalone on a new world I created to help us quickly get ready and play with some Ashlands stuff! This is a series that Glitchy and I both recorded and made separate videos for our respective channels. Watch one or both videos if you want to see Glitchy’s perspective.

Welp, it was fun to see what happens if you try to get to the Ashlands in a normal boat.

we did the same thing, spent an hour rockhopping and dying a lot before we had our giant DUH moment lol

I had my boat just immediately drop to the bottom of the ocean and me along with it... but i didn't lose health and just sat there and couldn't get out...

So, USUALLY, the last boss gives you something to be ready for the next biome. Yall need to spawn the queen item, or fight her.

Indeed! I killed 3 on my way in. Solo with the new boat, spinesnap and cold arrows. Works really well. Unfortunately, the enemies on land are pretty tanky and besides whittling down starred warriors, it's a lot of arrows and I don't fancy so many mountain trips for obsidian and frost glands.
Glitchy repeatedly screaming "vulture" while waffles paddles in the soup trying to avoid a Bonemaw AND collect his gear is why I watch you two. Fantastic!

Sooo glad me and my crew weren't the only ones to just sail in a longboat and die immediately. Been waiting to start watching the series till i had spent some time in the biome to avoid spoilers and it was well worth the wait. I had a similar beaching experience in my solo world with a charred spawner in my way. Died probably 30 times and killed 50+ charred before i realized it was a spawner. Yall absolutely crushed that first landing
Heeeyyy I'm glad you came back for it!! It's such a fun series and I'm glad you got your chance to avoid spoilers! Yeahhhh it was definitely a big dumb at first but I'm glad to know we weren't the only dummies with the longship. Oh well!

@@Amatsuichi haha yep I've learned that now! Possibly caused multiple deaths in this playthrough in the future...
The boss stone thing might change when it moves from testing, but with how things seem to work if they change the stones it might zap everyone’s trophies away lol

I get the feeling that there's a spawner near where you landed on the beach
There seem to be spawners everywhere, and they even seem to pop up where there are no spawners!
did you notice feather cape is no longer frost resistant so you will get the cold debuff in the night time? also, VERY WEAK to fire, which is not convenient at all for the biome lol

Yeah I am definitely expecting a bit of rebalancing but we shall see! It's pretty cool
Having watched other streamers struggle mightily with the Ashlands already, I anticipate much dying, confusion....and more dying!

I tried almost immediately when I brought one home. Unfortunately, there's no cold/warm indicator when you throw one on the floor, so I wouldn't expect it to be hatchable.

I was indeed having a field day with the new pieces, not so much with surviving the act of obtaining the materials for them though! I've not died so much on normal difficulty since I was a noob! 🤣
Somehow I just KNEW you'd miss the Queen drop and the new boat, I was sitting here cackling to myself knowing full well what you were gonna do and you two did not disappoint! In fairness though, good job on the beach head, you actually did pretty damned well right there. 👍

I believe I'm among the very first players to encounter the Ashlands Boss when the PTB was released, and it, like most inhabitants of the Ashlands, are more vulnerable to weapons with Frost and Spirit damage. My mistake earlier was not thinking of that and blindly fighting the new boss with an arbalest lol. Try the Frostner, Mistwalker, anything that has frost and spirit damage. They work wonders in the Ashlands.

Your Eitr Refinery closed off like that, when you use it. The Green Balls will damage your walls and stuff. I had a base with 2 refineries going, and they managed to fully destroy my stone walls.
Looks good though.
Hahah Roger that. It may not be used ever since it's kind of a creative mode-ish playthrough but that's very good to note if we do have to use it!
What a shame you had no weather effect when first going in! Nice and sunny ashlands just isn't the same.
I rushed and landed today, so I could watch you guys. Got there fine, but it took hours to sort of establish a base, then a blob blew up in it and it was all gone. Those things are bastards! Now I rebuilt on a hill close to my landing point, a nice little stone portal house. But every time I try to venture out, it's a swarm like your landing.
I'm thinking you need a tank and a mage. Mage shields and fireballs groups, then frost blast the starred warriors. As it is, they one shot me with the overhead strike if I don't parry or just eat through my arrow stacks. It's a bit much. It feels like being a noob in the black forest, at night in the rain when your rested buff runs out. But that's _with_ rested, lingering stamina and during the day being dry, top tier mistlands gear. Dunno, maybe with a group but solo... ouf...

I’m 90% sure the spawn rate of ashlands enemies is bugged. That would explain the overwhelming number of enemies. It’s way too much to make sense at the moment.
Yeah they just had a patch and apparently fixed the exact issue we were seeing
When I saw that bonemaw I had known the journey was over 🤣.Because that's how we concluded ours. Since we have been looking forward to this update for so long thus we just jump ourselves into ashlands without unlocking new tech. So we basically negelected the drop from queen to upgrade the artisan table to get the newest ship. Then we the ignorant just sailed with that fancy longship and all went fine till we reached the shore and the board started boiling, but we managed to repair it by setting up workbench on the rock nearby. Then here came that monstrosity. But to be honest man you guys are doing a relatively great job so far and I am expecting more videos from you in the future!😆

Started over for the Ashland, so I’m not there yet, but can you build a crafting benches on the boat?

Just asking once the official Ashland update do I have to create a new world or can I continue my previous world?
You'll be able to continue your previous world! If you've explored a small chunk of the Ashlands in that world, the rest that you haven't yet explored will generate normally and leave that little bit in the previous version. But even if you've explored it all, you can use a mod called Upgrade World or something like that and it'll do the trick!

Hi Waffles - I am wondering how / why your view of the Ashlands is so much brighter, clearer and easier to see than Glitchy's view? Is it a mod, settings or post editing? I am struggling hard to see anything in the Ashlands making the game almost unplayable for me :(
I discover that I used the devcommand "env clear" for the first episode or so but I figured it out and fix the issue.
@@WafflesGamesProbably Thanks for the info - I tend to keep away from the swamp because of its darkness - maybe I'll try to use that command. Keep up the great content - very entertaining :D

It’s the beginning and sporadically placed music when you two are scurrying about. It is like the chaotic beetle juice music. 😂
“Small Steps” (at the beginning)has a good riff. It might be popping in with Glitchy Cam 🤔

It's what we had. The other playthroughs I had at the end of the queen was one with a different friend, and two from my server. None solo or anything else. So I created it so I could play with my friend in the new biome. Our series together will make it there eventually but we wanted to play on release.
Don't feel bad I can't even play it. Made it there swarmed by mobs almost dead don't have people to game with. So yep till they update it I can't do anything at all.
It's a pretty rough landing, and it honestly doesn't get much better...but I bet it will with more familiarity and maybe a bit of rebalancing.
@@WafflesGamesProbably I literally know theirs nothing I can do besides start a new world get me out of that mess. All I wanted was some metal for armor and weapons that's it.
Honestly made me not even want to play the game on normal at all period. Way to many mobs the damage is fine though but I can't get anything I need for important things. So yep I'm done with it wish you luck. I play games for fun not to end up frustrated and usually can do it on the harder difficulties but not this time just normal made me say it. Good job devs honestly I haven't said that in years. I applaud such.
Did make it out went back and also back home again. Now just wanna leave it all alone though. May start over and just worry about everything else ashlands is for people with friends I'm not one of those. I barely like people. And I hate to turn down difficulties I only turn things off to save some small amounts of time. Sail back anyway sometimes too.

The new giant boat comes with a new “ceramic plating” that’ll make it immune to the boiling water and bigger storage and much more bigger than the long ship! Good luck have fun!!
