  • This documentary was originally broadcast on PBS television stations in 1994... It is the only time Miss Young appeared on the same program with her son and daughter-in-law, filmmakers Christopher & Linda Lewis.
    Enjoy!

I was born in Alabama but I grew up in southern Louisiana. Watching this beautiful production brought a few tears and far more delightful memories. The mighty Mississippi River was the hallmark of my early life and the River Road was how I got to many of my favorite places. From rickety little seafood joints where the freshest crabs, shrimp and oysters were served on wooden plank tables covered over with newspapers to lovely afternoons wandering between those majestic oaks at Oak Alley plantation. It was a very happy trip.

I lived outside of Alton, IL for a couple of years and The Great River Road running by Pere Marquette is so beautiful. The best eagle watching EVER in February! Grafton is under water right now because of all the rain we have had....over 32 feet and rose 3 feet in one day earlier this week. The Mighty Miss can be a beast! You two are so cute! :) Thank you for sharing this I really enjoyed it!

WOW! Six minutes in and we find out Loretta’s son and daughter in law produced the video. I enjoyed seeing them again. Christopher used to be our (Tulsa,OK area) local TV news man. Extra fun. I’d be enthralled listening to Loretta Young read the old phone book! I’ve watched and rewatched everything you’ve posted. Please do give us more if you have it! Maranatha
