  • Written in 2010, I thought I would pull it out and present it using
    Musescore 4, although it was originally created in Finale. Some adjustments were made for sound.
    It is starting to warm up here and I love the thought of fragrant petals being strewn into the water on a beautiful spring day. The inspiration for the piece came by a poem by Amy Lowell and I will include her poem below.
    Amy Lowell 1874 -1925
    "Petals"
    "Life is a stream
    On which we strew
    Petal by petal the flower of our heart;
    The end lost in dream,
    They float past our view,
    We only watch their glad, early start.
    Freighted with hope,
    Crimsoned with joy,
    We scatter the leaves of our opening rose;
    Their widening scope,
    Their distant employ,
    We never shall know. And the stream as it flows
    Sweeps them away,
    Each one is gone
    Ever beyond into infinite ways.
    We alone stay
    While years hurry on,
    The flower fared forth, though its fragrance still stays."
    Composition and video production by Donna Mitchell. Sheet music is available for this soprano, alto, tenor, bass, with violin and piano accompaniment at: www.sheetmusic...
    This has only been performed once, but I would love to see some others use it.
