Hi everyone, my name is Matthew Allen and I run a Vanlife Vlog called VanlifePLUS. Over the last few months I have gotten to know the amazingly kind family behind the local camping supply store Craze Outdoors here in Calgary, Alberta.
They have put countless sleepless nights into making their business a success and even recently moved to a bigger location as they had rapidly outgrown the previous one. Seeing such hard work pay off is awesome and being able to support local has become something very important to me over the last few years.
Unfortunately, when I paid them a visit this morning I learned that they had been robbed during the night. Thieves had broken into their warehouse and stolen a ton of expensive gear including, but not limited to products from Jackery, EcoFlow and Dometic, estimated value between $30,000 and $40,000.
Seeing the family in such distress after working so hard and being so close to hiring on new staff broke my heart and I was at a loss for words. No one should be treated like this and while I hope the police will be able to figure out who did it based on camera footage and that insurance will cover the lost property - I’m hoping my community will be able to help in some small way. I would love to see this family back on their feet and not having to deal with the fallout of this situation.
Owning and operating a small business is no small feat and they truly did not deserve this.

I work for Uhaul. If At all they got a glimpse of the Rental ID on any camera, depending on the size TM for 10 foot, DC, for 15, El, 17, TT for 20, and AT/JH for 26 foot trucks. Give U-Haul a call(if you can come up with the ID) and report it. The vehicle IDs are tagged to the people who have rented them. Lets get these guys!

I donated-not a lot, but every bit counts. A few days ago, I got sick and lost my electricity at the same time. #vanlife. I am incredibly thankful for having the Vtoman power bank that I won last year. It literally saved me. Even though I am geographically isolated, I still feel like I am part of an important and supportive community. I am happy to be able to give back both monetarily and energetically. I stopped by Craze Outdoors this afternoon (Wednesday) after placing an online order.
I chatted with Jason and he was still shaking in anger and yet he was close to tears of thanks for this community.

I know how they feel. I have been robbed four times in the last two years and they have trashed my house including ripping off the garage door. I have finally moved out and took what personal items were left. I am completely destroyed. My house is off grid so when I was not there it was a perfect target. My condolences to your friends. I hope they recover. I don't think I ever will!
Patricia I was shocked to hear how many times you had been robbed and especially for a woman it's a very scary thing. I hope your new place is safer and honestly speaking, you should maybe look to getting some therapy, please don't underestimate the impact the robberies have had on your mental health. There is an online therapy organization that many people have turned to they are called "Betterhelp". Wishing you good health and safety going forward.💞

Heartbreaking news, I truly hope and pray the thieves are caught. Won't do much for the company unfortunately and sadly I'm speaking from experience. Insurance is great, but it doesn't cover the emotional impact it has on you - whether it is personal or business. So sorry this has happened. I'm so sick of people trying to steel what you have worked hard to achieved!! Matthew, can you post the pictures that were on video? This might help catch these scumbags!!

You're right Phyllis and I think this Go Fund Me will show the family that there are people who care and who are willing to support them both financially and emotionally. They made a very good decision in making Matthew an ambassador for Craze as he will always support them in their endeavors because he's a very loyal and caring person.

I'm happy to help. Visiting Craze is still on my list for this summer when I come to Calgary. They are good people, and I hope the jerks who did this to them are caught and prosecuted!

The worse part is losing trust in people and having to look over your shoulder...someone went thru moms place years ago, and she locked the doors forever after...funny side note was she caught them in the act and chased them down the driveway....lol!!! Sadly coincidentally... while watching footage of you in Craze Outdoors my first thought was always: this info. is ripe for robbers. That's so weird of me to have that thought yet here we are.
It’s been 3 hours since you posted and you’re almost halfway there. I’m # 84. I bet this is almost the worst possible time for them to have been robbed. The beginning of the camping season, and just after they made a major investment in their expansion. I don’t just feel bad for them; I feel bad for that employee they were about to hire and the people who were buying camping gear from them who are living in vans, cars and RVs because they can’t afford rents. And I feel bad for the people who can afford rent but need the spiritual renewal that comes from being out in nature while camping. It’s just terrible.
Wow, I love those guys at CrazOutdoors ( my spelling maybe wrong). I dunno but it shook me to my core and I'm just a nobody. I will scrape some up and it's going to these great bunch of guys. I do hope these miserable people get caught. Love goes out to those guys.

😢 now those poor people will have to spend even more money to upgrade their Anti-Theft Equipment.
Their insurance will also cover their online orders too, besides their stolen onsite inventory & property damages. We've been through this in the past, too. The psychological effects from it last forever, though 😢

This IS a huge deal. They pulled up a U-haul?!? Geez, this is a very serious situation and my heart is broken for them. Alerts definitely should get out there about purchasing stolen items from Craze! It may even catch these scum!! 😢
Oh Matthew, you are such a genuine friend to Craze Outdoors. It makes me sad that there are so many people who think they are entitled to take other people’s property and potentially ruin their lives. Hopefully they had good business insurance that will help recover their loss.
We have to keep our eyes out for someone selling those products to make sure they get caught.

That is so sad, what makes people do such things. 😠 I know this is not the same, but when my brother was very young, he got a sled for Christmas, on Christmas day he went sledding, came home, left the sled in our yard long enough to have lunch, when he went back out, it was gone, someone stole it, he was heart broken. I can just imagine what that family is going through, having their business robbed. You are such a wonderful and caring person to do this for them, bless your heart. I did donate, wish I could do more, but as the saying goes, every penny counts.

I completely get the mix of emotions having been robbed myself in the past. Very upsetting and I extend my heart to your friends. I think it will be very prudent for the community to be aware that these robbers will be trying to sell these items on all the marketing platforms or out of their personal spaces. So ... keep an eye out for shady transactions. Hopefully these criminals can be identified and caught. I wish for Craze Outdoors to recover quickly.

Those sons of …. that is awful. As a retired economist, I can attest that small businesses are the greatest generators of employment relative to their size and are the foundation of local economies. So I donated what I could from here in sunny NB on the east coast. Local businesses deserve our support and the family owners seem like great people. Hopefully the sons of… will be caught quickly and the goods returned to Craze.
Glad I can help, even though it's only a drop in the bucket. Looks like a lot of drops have dripped in today. Even if insurance covers some or all of it, it will take a while for them to recover. Not to mention an insurance rate hike most likely.

I know with my bluetti when I downloaded the app on my phone it has a serial number and my email…so maybe if they had serial numbers and help from the companies they could get some info on where they are located ??
I drove up from Lethbridge for their grand opening and to meet you.
The staff were very friendly and also very easy to have a conversation with.
The bay across from our business had their overhead door completely opened in the middle of the night but nothing was stolen a few months ago so now I’m always hiding trackers in customers vehicles just in case.
