I grew up with an amazing mom. I lost her at 24. She struggled her whole life (cheating & abusive husbands). At her funeral…so many people showed up telling me that my mom was their mom. She gave these kiddos love, hope, affection for the first time. ❤

I love the big cheesy smile you have on your face when you are talking about your wife..I have to admit I'm happy that it didn't work out with your first love because it's clear Kathy is your soul mate. Favorite couple award goes to Josh and kathy! I'm so happy for you josh!

It would of been hard at the time he lost his first love especially when you think about how and why but you are so right it happened for a reason. It shows that God has planned our life from beginning to the end even though we don't see the whole picture. There are times where I've realised why something happened in my past as it led to a positive thing in the present.

Oh, I was not expecting such a SWEET video! Wow, what a love story! And Kathy’s so lucky to have a husband who can really feel and show his emotions-a true gift. You’ve not let your past ruin your present. And the love you felt for that curly blond first-born was something not all husbands feel. Yes, life is hard, marriage is HARD, but you seem to have figured out how to navigate it ( plus the the chaos and noise of 4 children) , and be grateful for what you have. It’s just wonderful to see! ….and Kathy’s voice! Wow. So happy for you!! 👍🏻

Josh you are so endearing.....and I bet you and Kathy laugh a lot together and that makes life wonderful. I cried tears for young Josh and all the chaos and 'things' you weren't protected from, your hungry belly and your silent night time tears. But my heart is full that you have survived and even more so survived. You mention your 2 older boys and what a thing for you and Kathy to embrace those boys, even during difficulty (because you know, kids can be hard to raise) but you both may never know the breathe and width of the impact you will have made on them. It's also a step in to breaking generational curses as well.

9/11… I was living at home with my parents, first year of college and I was commuting. My mom woke me up and told me to turn on the TV in my room, and we both watched as the second plane collided with the second tower pretty much immediately after turning it on. I am in the states, and I will literally never ever forget that moment, that day, or the days after.

Josh, I know this is a little old but I've just found the time to finally watch it all! I was just down the road from you during 9/11. I'm from Moose jaw, born and raised. Still stuck here, now raising my own kids here. Anyway, I was home that day, I was 17 and was just hanging at home. I was done with high school by that point. Also, the 'creepy' hospital is no longer here, they tore that down years ago, too many parties and vandalism after it became abandoned. I was actually born at that hospital🙂Anyway, I just wanted to say I think it's cool that you spent some time so close to where I'm from. I'm sorry to hear about how hard you had it as a kid, I literally had tears a couple times. But it has shaped you into the person who you are today, and it explains why you care so deeply about children. Keep being awesome!

Not even done with this video yet and I've been watching the whole series up until this point and I just have to say as someone who had a lame and somewhat non existent childhood with abuse and trauma and loves with nothing but heartbreak mostly (completely mild milk water compared to your stories) your life just evolved so beautifully and it's really inspiring how you turned everything around and broke generational abuse and trauma. You fought for the life you have today and it's lovely and inspiring. And you might say you were a shit head or show signs of feeling like you think you deserved what all happened to you but EVERY time someone extended you the slightest amount of love and humanity you were SO grateful and took an inch and turned it into a mile. That is the sign of a wonderful person in my eyes. Thank you for sharing these stories.

love learning your story. I remember where i was 9/11, of course. I was a young single mom, home alone w my toddler. I made a call in our den to someone close to the family who cut me short to get off the phone and he said hang up, go turn on the news. I watched in horror. After that cellphones weren't working and my then-future father in law who should have been at the tower 1 that day, couldnt be reached. He ended up being assigned a different location that day for his work and wasnt at the towers.

In my personal opinion I think it’s nice to propose to someone on their birth day that’s something they’ll never forget and you’ll always remember what day you proposed. I know alot of people nowadays think that proposals need their own day but I don’t think so I think the classic birth day, Christmas, new years, Valentine’s Day proposals are timeless and meaningful.

Oh I know all too well of being packed in a church van. In 1990, when I was 14, we went on a mission trip to Mexico. We drove from Pennsylvania to Texas/Mexico in our church van. Packed shoulder to shoulder. The leaders drove straight through the night so we had to sleep in the van. I feel like it took us two solid days of driving. When we were on our way back home after the mission trip ended, the leaders were getting sleepy. So they pulled into a random gas station in another state, flung open the van door and that's where we slept for the night. Goodness, could you imagine doing that now? haha
I have really enjoyed listening to your life story. What a testimony you have Josh! And the song with Kathy...your harmonies were, whew, fire!

I am DYING at your description of the Prairies 🤣 I grew up in Alberta, and my Dad is from Southern Ontario… I remember going to Ontario for the first time and thinking “Wow! Trees actually get this big!?” And I live in Northern Alberta, in the Boreal Forest, so I’m not full on prairie kid (my cousins are, in Southern Alberta, and driving there is torture. Pure torture) but dang, those Ontario trees! My husband is also from Southern Ontario, so it’s truly a joy to go back there every year. Eventually we hope to move there.. to Beamsville, Thorold, or Virgil. Literally all the places you’ve mentioned, I’m like “yes!”.

On 9/11 I was working at the Red Cross in Portland, Ore doing “Collections staff Scheduling.” I scheduled and staffed blood drives. I remember waking up and hearing weird things on my clock radio, and then I turned on my TV. 😳 The next thing I remember is driving to work, seeing planes in the sky lined up 8 deep waiting to land at the Portland Airport, crossing the bridge into Oregon (I lived on the border in Washington State) and hearing that the second tower had collapsed. We were so busy at work the next week there was no time to think, and to be honest I think it was a blessing. We worked 16 hours, went home, slept, came back, and worked another 16, and it went on that way for 8 days. To say it was a blur would be an understatement. I will be forever grateful for all of the restaurants that donated hot food to feed us over that week. It was awesome!!!

This was great to learn about you. I think my husband had a very similar type of life growing up. His parent's did drugs, they wasted their money on drugs so that they didn't have groceries. His Mom's picture was up at all the grocery stores for writing bad checks. His youngest sister was 16 years younger. He also had 3 brothers in between there where my husband was being the parent when he was around 8. His Mom was bipolar, and he would have to call the police on her many times. He remembers hanging out at Kenny the drug dealers house with his cousin because he had this talking bird. When is part 5 coming out?

Josh, I have enjoyed listening to you about your life. I am happy that you turned to the Lord and got into ministry. Your story is very inspiring! You never know your story could be helping someone who is struggling. You have a beautiful wife and family and may God continue to bless you all! For me going through my divorce from my abusive husband at first I turned against God and I thought how could God love me and let my marriage fail and allow my husband to be abusive. Well turning against God lasted 5 yrs. During that 5 yrs I felt miserable. I got to thinking of day it's been 5 yrs and look how far I have gotten. I then realized I didn't get there on my own. I realized God carried me through those painful 5 yrs. So I got up on that Sunday morning and went back to church. Best thing I ever could do to help me heal. I believe God brought my second husband into my life who treated me like a queen. God is good all the time! God Bless you Josh! ♥️

Omg, the tears when you described your daughter holding your pinky while on the baby scale. I just realized I lived in Ottawa at the same time. Did you ever go to the Christian store on Merivale Rd called Salem Storehouse? I worked there through uni (I went to Carleton). My church youth group would play soccer at the Ozdome in Stittsville lol. Great series on your life story. You’re inspiring me to do the same :)

There is some sort of innocence in your story. Beautiful life you have experienced (the good out ways the bad, all experiences have made you, you).

Oh my gosh I was obsessed with John Mayer in the 2002 and 2010 years. If you've ever gotten to see him live, it's really awesome. Haven't been to his concert since 2011, I miss it! I love R&B too, Kathy did really well with that style.

I found out that despite my husband waiting just under two years to propose, he started a wedding fund weeks after we started dating because he just knew. We take two week trips yearly and it's always awesome but we had great examples. My sister has been married 27 years my husband's parents were married 50 years before his dad passed and my parents will be married 55 years in June.

Josh I am really enjoying these videos. You have led an interesting life. Your story is inspiring and you are an awesome storyteller. I can't wait for the next part! I just wanted to say thank you for opening up and sharing with us your story, you have a beautiful family. Blessings to you and your family. Side note: I was at work answering phones when 911 happened. Scariest day of my life. I remember vividly when it happened and those anxious days and weeks that followed. Very surreal and frightening.
