  • The Toyota Tacoma. Arguably the most iconic midsize truck of all time. A legendary truck that is beloved by all who have had the pleasure of owning one... It's undeniably one of the most legendary vehicles of all time. After being the owner of a 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma for over a year now, I take a moment to reflect on what I did wrong, what I did right, and what I really think of the Tacoma and the path forward for current and future owners.

    In September I bought a 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD off-road crew cab fully loaded short bed with 14,000 Mi on it as a salvage title back bumper was pushed down 1 in so the very end of the frame horn was bent evenly across they total did got it for $13,000 under Book value registered at as a reconstruction title loosen to the rear bumper Mount bolts move the bumper up looks like there is no damage at all now my very first foreign vehicle there is nothing else wrong with it runs perfect will keep it until the wheels fall off now just a figure of speech it looks perfect no one would ever know that it had any damage zero cost on repair play $29,000 for it😊 PS the dealer still honored the two years free maintenance on it I have one more oil change left no drivetrain warranty but these vehicles are so reliable I wasn't worried about it.lol

    Glad you are sticking w 3rd gen. I just bought mine a few months ago and don’t plan on upgrading. I bought the premium TRD OR for just under 42k and it has every technical gadget I could ever want. =)
    There will always be those who want the latest and greatest. Also, I think we are seeing a lot of “influencers” buying and pushing the 4th Gen because the curiosity factor of something new as well as doing it for the views/subscribers.

      Agreed, the 4th Gen is “new and upcoming”.. that’s what most influencers thrive off of.. and I don’t fault them for it.. every Tacoma channel is a little bit different and provides a little bit of a different perspective from each of its producers. Looking forward to seeing how the fourth and third Gen really compare for the long run. Time will tell!

    The technology and new materials are above anything we ever had before as far as safety. Plastic will last a very, very long time and unlike metal that you can break your face on and even get you into mortal danger much easier I think we have come a long way. And remember this is not a Lamborghini, or any sort of luxury car, This is a real mid-size truck!

      @spencerjones7775 - I did the same, mine had the graphics but I told them they would need to remove them prior to me driving it off the lot. I’ve been adding some stuff to it, I absolutely love it! Got it two months ago from Toyota of Plano. Had a ECU tune and it’s a completely different truck!

    Congrats on the one year anniversary! How do you get your good gas mileage? You fill up and you have over 300+ miles to go. I fill up and get maybe 280. I hand calculate mileage and get and average 16mpg per tank. I have the tune and the bed cover and it really made no difference. I also drive pretty mellow.

      Thanks Matt! Great to hear from you! Hmmm 🤔 I don’t have a secret ingredient unfortunately that I use.. I do run premium fuel, not sure if that makes a difference. Ever since I’ve had my truck it’s always seemed to get 300+ miles according to the fuel range monitor.. even with the larger tires and lift. Wish I had a secret recipe to share, but outside of Premium fuel I don’t do anything special or different from you.

    • @mattbayer3986
      @mattbayer3986 10 месяцев назад

      I remember that you saying that you use premium fuel. I will see if that helps and if the extra cost is worth it. Or maybe I also need a lift and larger tires....lol@@westcoasttaco

    Hey man! Where ya been? 3 weeks between videos is unacceptable.. lol Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.
    Finally got my truck lifted. aka.. “Bling” Tried to get with your guy but he didn’t reply to messages on his site or number. Ended up having 88 Rotors do the install. Was planning a road trip out to Westcott Designs but couldn’t work out the scheduling. They ended up referring me to 88. Happy with it.. Still need to get an alignment after it settles a bit. Back to work.. Take Care

    • @westcoasttaco
      @westcoasttaco  10 месяцев назад

      @@James-yv8nm right on man that sounds great 👍🏼! You know… when it comes to the fourth GEN, I have a few thoughts on it.. For social media, it makes sense.. it’s new.. it’s relevant.. and people are gonna be really curious to see how this works regardless, if they like the engine platform Toyota decided to go with on this generation.. For me it doesn’t make sense to spend 60 K on a truck just to get more views on my content.. I also think that initially there isn’t going to be a lot of modifications available to even really do anything with the truck.. if you look at the interior and exterior from what I’m seeing none of the pieces look like they’re very easy to customize like the third GEN has been.. shift knob, lights, and other pieces etc… I think Toyota wants to create a platform that is more difficult for people to modify, unless they go through Toyota.. so with that being said, if you buy this new Tacoma and the purpose of it is to get people to watch your channel, I don’t see a really good investment in it personally because you’re gonna run out of content pretty quick.. people are gonna get tired of seeing the same videos after a while. Another thought I have about the fourth GEN is how difficult it’s going to be to try and maintenance it in one’s garage… between the turbo and all of the technology, they’re pumping into this thing it’s gonna be really hard to do anything more than an oil change in my opinion.. especially when you get the hybrid.. I think the days of getting to own the same vehicle for 20+ years is coming to an end.. vehicle manufactures want you to trade your vehicle in every five years.. and honestly it seems like a lot of the new vehicles are having a lot of problems around that timeframe.. a lot of dealers don’t make money on new cars they make money on used cars.. but we shall see what happens.. I do think it’s going to be a very similar situation that they’ve had with the tundra.. it’s just gonna take a couple years for people to realize that the third gen was really the end of an era.. but we shall see what happens!

    Hard to believe it's been a year!!! congrats!!! It's been a long time that I've seen that many taco's at a dealership. All that white is a good thing, makes my Lunar Rock that more rare. I just ordered a Greenlane front Stump Bumper for this spring install. Been below freezing for awhile. I'm glad your keeping yours. I'll be doing the same. Don't care for the 4TH gen.

    Plastic is better for crash ratings and pedestrian safety. Also, as mentioned MPG’s and CAFE requirements. My Texas made 2020 DCLB TRD sport 4x4 just turned 3 years old. All stock except 265/70R17 Toyo Open Country AT3’s. Only problem to date was a faulty front drivers centre cap. Hasn’t been affected by Tacoma’s 040 Super White paint failure either. Going into its 4th Canadian winter. I’m like you and keep my Vehicles well maintained. First oil change was at 800 miles.

    Vehicle need more plastic due to the epa and fuel economy restrictions and or requirements need to be more efficient!
