- Did you know that most people do the simple chin tuck exercise wrong?? The way it's commonly taught doesn't really activate all of the muscles it's supposed to and can cause only one or two segments of the neck to be engaged. Dr. Lin teaches his favorite way to do the chin tuck exercise!

2:42 I injured my neck doing it that way
Oh this feels so much better. More people need to see this
Finally a vidoe that makes sense. So much content out there, never sure what to put my trust in ! :O
This was super helpful and way less painful than the other chin tucks I was doing. Thank you!
I’ve been trying to find the right chin tuck exercise and THIS ONE ACTUALLY WORKS!!! I found out I’ve been doing it wrong the whole time. Thanks for sharing this amazing tip!!!
thanks, bot.
yay this video was nice and funny and helpful !!! TY DR
Thank you so much. I was taught the chin tuck method by a PT for my whiplash. I was taught to push back on my chin. Your way is much easier.
That's the common way to teach it, but our way is far more conservative and easier to perform! Glad you liked it too :)
Yes. Feels much better than the medieval way I was shown.
Wow, you got original and quality contents🍎
Share more bro
Really good method it combines the chin tuck with the other one where you do the side Bend and you can feel the muscles right away I could feel them down to my fingertips
Can you tell me how many times or for how long each session please? Thanks for what seems to be a lot of help !
Thank you so much!!
That's a great tip !!very simple:)
This works great!!! thank you!!
Thanks for sharing! Good luck everyone.
Just got the most distinct activation of neck muscles and between my shoulder blades ...awesome...bye bye forward head posture
@Syed shah just follow the instructions in the video: tongue to top of the roof of your mouth behind the front teeth, L from chin to chest bone, nodding head...that's when I felt muscle activity not only in the neck but all along the spine: thoracic and lumbar
@@yvonnew416 How is it going so far? No more forward head? 😀
Word
The best fix for posture is habit. Even if u do these exercises and are beneficial of course. Focus on both.
Agreed
Once there is a trauma posture doesn't fix it usually it helps that not to go back but usually more exercises are needed period I've always had great posture but once I bottle fed a whole bunch of little baby kittens it caused a trauma to my cervical area good this exercise really helps because I'm constantly working on going back to where I was
Excellent video!! Thanks!! By the way
what's your opinion on mewing?
How long do u have to do this exercise?
Thank You
Damn ! This Helped !
That's the goal :D
Great tip Dr. Lin! Editing and humor is spot on lol Great content another great Rehab team!
Yay! Thanks for the feedback! :)
This helps so much thank you
Glad it helped!
is this supposed to help the back of the neck or the front?
im so grateful I could kiss you i've been in pain for so long this helped me so much thank you🙏🏻
Dr. Lin's wife may not approve but we're so glad it helped! :)
This worked well for me. Thanks!
hi doctor, is it bad to put additional pressure with my hands on the chin tuck
How many reps should i do?
I’m confused, is this supposed to be an alternative to conventional chin tucks? OR is the tongue and L technique the proper starting position for chin tucks and you just didn’t show the full exercise?
i have the same question :D
Me confused two
What about lying down flat while doing this vs sitting up?
You're a funny guy, but thorough.
Does this/anything with help improve neck hump?
Dr Lin it is ok to feel some discomfort in the vertenral area between the shoulder blades?
Same
How many times or minutes a day. I have a upper cervical fusion. So i need to strenghten all mu small muscles
you had me at blink 182
So Dr. Lin how do we really do the chin (tucks) ?😮
Would really like to know how many sets to do of these, but I see nobody’s gotten a response lol
Hello doctor, can someone with scoliosis do chin tucks?
Why is almost every single rehab/chiro/physical therapist on RUclips so damn cocky?? Every single one is like "YOU ARE DOING THIS WRONG, ALL OTHER RUclips VIDEOS ARE LYING!!". Can't you be a bit more humble and realistic? Like "if nothing has worked for you so far, you could try this and see if it helps", or something in that direction.
After doing these am I supposed to be sore in the back of the neck where that hump of fat grows?
I have the same issue. Anything that activated my traps cause me pain.
So just to confirm. Because I’m doing chin tucks to fix my forward head posture. When I do them it feels like I can’t breathe. That is normal? I’m scared I’m going to like crush my air way
You probably being doing it wrong. Please don't go into extension or extreme . You can gentle use this method because I notice you might have been jamming your vertebrate in that process. Try to put on finger beneath your jaw and another finger at the back of your skull with another hand. Then, try to use the method of using the finger at the back of Ur skull to lift it up and use the other finger beneath your jaw to slight push back. This way u re stretching back the c-curve back to its normal place rather than jamming it. If you don't get it. I can drop my WhatsApp number to illustrate on short video clip
Can you please post what exercises help Cervical instability !😃🙏🙏🙏🙏
We have a bunch of good ones related to stability on our channel
I need advice
is the muscle from chin tuck the same as the muscle that helps you lift your head from laying down flat position?
coz I've done chin tucks and I can't lift my head from lying down position when I wake up.
Actually they are different you are but the chin tuck muscles should assist
Have a question...so many ppl, ie docs, therapists recommend chin tucks, chin nods. I read if you have a reverse curve in the neck (cervical kyphosis), that it can cause the spinal cord to stretch and shear. Doing a chin tuck with a reverse curve can tear the spinal cord up! Worse part yet to come, our spinal cord doesn't always feel what is happening. You can damage it daily for years with out knowing. Do you agree and would your exercise, which I like better apply to that? Thank you
These exercises are a tiny fraction of the amount of force needed to do anything like you've said. The chin tuck is about the most recommended exercise for a reason....because it works and patients don't break their spines as a result. It's a gentle exercise.
@@grumpyguss is it possible to injure your neck by overstretching a chin tuck against a wall? It hurts when I did it too hard, just wondering
@@grumpyguss continuing to read more info contradictions whether true or not chin tucks can hurt you. It may cause BP issues. If you have a reversed neck curve and do them again from what I’m reading, that can cause damage.
One would have to exert an enormous amount of force over an extended period of time to shear the spinal cord with chin tucks. Common sense would lead one to stop because of the pain produced before that would ever happen. He has demonstrated a way to perform chin tucks that minimize overexertion. Performing chin tucks to facilitate more cervical spine alignment is far less risky than continuing with a forward head position and the domino effect of issues related to the misalignment.
Im confused just nodding down?
This guy has way too little subs. His walking video changed the way I walk for the better.
And what to do if I feel the suffocation?
Pray tuck
That's amazing 👏👏👏👏
YOU'RE AMAZING!
The blink 182 clip!!!
IYKYK!
There is so many different opinions it's hard to know who to believe
tongue on roof of mouth, L-shape, gentle nodding - I don't feel my muscles are doing anything. Is it meant to be so subtle that you don't even feel it working?
Try to add a little resistance by placing your thumb under your chin and nodding slightly against it. Make sure to relax your shoulders. Hold it for a few seconds and feel the contraction building up. Hope that helps.
👍🏻
JUST subscribed.
Yeah, mike mews chin tuck is so bad. I think that you should just have your head straight and maybe a slight tilt down. So many people tilt their head all the way down and it’s SOOOO bad for them

What’s the right neck posture for someone looking at phone laptop or just sitting on couch?
Can I imagine back of my head and shoulders touching a wall to kee them in line? Even with that the chin can be tucked in, neutral level, or looking up.
Occipital neuralgia yess
Uh?
thank you. great info. 🙂🙂🙂🙂
good info
less is more would apply to this video. it could do with less editing.
I feel tired after doing this haha. But I felt the exercise more instead of the double chin method. No need to draw the head back too. That one's uncomfortable.
thanks, bot.
@@kreion You're welcome, human.
As a PT, it depends. What you're saying isn't wrong, but neither is the full chin tuck. It isn't always black and white like you're portraying. Don't spread misinformation like this. We already have enough influencers who do that.
You damn „doctor’s“ are confusing, every one says sth different and different technics
Everybody's body is different! Why do we have different blood types, and body shapes, male or female? If there was a cure all we would not be giving this 411 for free. GIve it a try and see what sticks.
@@RehabRevive didn’t you say that your method is the right way? Right way for who? You meant probably every body so stop that bull „every body is different“
☠🖤
Wtf was this, you made chin tucks into a baby movement, with no effect or feeling.
Where did you learn this from? Top chiropractors must have the wrong education or study to tell us to do chin tucks in normal way....
i will not believe u ,even if u are a doctor lol
yoiu explained nothing what do you do with your index finger push up push back wtf man!!!! frustrating af
