That wasn't Deadpool with the Iron Giant. While it is the hardest character to identify in the trailer (unless better researchers on the web have found out more. I haven't looked around the 'net this morning to see.), my money is that it is going to be a character named Art3mis, and she is wearing an Elektra outfit, even though Elektra used sai's, not swords. It is definitely right before the final battle of the movie. The streamers from the swords and head are just difficult to place. More the head than the swords. And Lara is also talking to DIzzy, from Gears Of Wars.
I think it is Daito/Shoto with the swords and Parzival in the foreground. The shot is then taken from the quest then they acquire the (SPOILER)capsule. It is not so hard to figure out that they had to replace the reward for that quest with the Iron Giant due to the Japanese attitude towards copyright...
I'm glad Shane has read the book. It's really good, I recommend it for anyone who claims to be a nerd. So many references and characters and props and weapons and bosses are all massed together in this one system; The Oasis. Also, the guys with the IOI on their faces are the antagonistic corporation that wants control over The Oasis to make it into a corporate hellscape since membership is free in the gameworld. The creator of the game passed and hid Easter Eggs throughout the entirety of the game (which is massively massive) and anyone who finds all three Eggs gets control over the company and is free to do with The Oasis as they please. And the world is so shitty because people spend all of their time inside the game. It even has an economy and a school system. Really recommend the book. Try not to pass it up before the movie comes out!
But you can use Oasis money to buy things in the real world. For example, at one point in the book, the main character pays another Oasis character (a pizza joint?) and has real food delivered to his real world apartment. Oasis $ is so valuable to some people, that they will take your avatar paying their avatar to get real world stuff.
This is my favorite book. I'm so excited but also nervous that they won't be able to get a hold of a fraction of the licensing required to make a direct translation onto the big screen.
I've always wanted to see a race between the DeLorean, Mad Max's interceptor, the A-Team van, Christine (Stephen King), a Pole Position F1 car (i'm going to assume, because video games), and an Akira bike, I just didn't realize until now
I re-watched it frame by frame. It says "win the copper key". In the book Parzivals quest was the awesome part, if they step away from that it's not Ready Player One.
I suppose that they had to change some plot points. The second and third quest are something of movie-unfriendly. I hope they have retained the THX-esuqe steel-rat "escape from alcatraz" part
According to the leaked (and confirmed) script: The first quest is the car race (solution is to drive backwards), the second is a lame version of the blade runner sequence (WB self promotion) and the third is to just simply play a game of Donkey Kong and beat Holidays low high score. Those are the key 'quests', the first two gates appear when they get the keys and leads out of the quest area to the normal game, the third gate leads to a room with a golden egg... Ar3mis gets kidnapped by an IOI agent in RL and the gang (all living near Columbus) has to go and save her. www.reddit.com/r/readyplayerone/comments/6oxp2c/well_it_turns_out_the_script_i_have_was_real/
this reaction video is the reason why i and i think most people watch reaction videos. Genuine, funny and emotional. just finished the book and cant wait to see the film. great channel
Soooo many cool cars from the 80's in that race. The DeLorean time machine, Christine, the A-Team van, and after the wrecking ball swings, you can see Mad max's Interceptor rolling on the right, and that's Bigfoot crashing through the cars.
Book was amazing! Apparently almost all of the pop culture references will be in the movie. There was no licensing issues. Spielberg did say he was going to be lax on his own movie references.
To be honest, this is how we're going to end up. Vastly overpopulated towns and cities, and almost everyone will descend into VR as the only escape. Our technology is increasing as fast as our population. Poignant.
While I would probably agree, more and more countries are having birthrate problems, Germany, Japan, I think we are plateauing, then we are gonna start tapering off.
Except that overpopulation is only a problem in undeveloped countries. Developed ones like Germany, Japan, and many others have a shrinking population because of falling fertility rates, and others like the U.S. are well on the way of getting there. It's more likely that we'll live in a future full of elderly people where having children in rare. The signs are visible today.
'Tapering off' will not work without some law forcing it. The problem is nations are importing adults and children from different backgrounds who didn't determine an acceptable limit. If you bring in peoples who have 3-6 children on average, compared to a nation who has 1-2 children on average, the result is inevitable. The logical solution would be to limit births, but you can imagine how that will go down in the present climate. And so where do we find ourselves in 20 years? In 50?
Those people may bring 3-6 children with them, but what of their children's children, or their children? We can see it in China now, a country that had with massive growth that is now facing an aging population because of falling birthrates. It only takes a generation or two for decades or even centuries of consistent growth to come to an end and reverse course. Laws can speed up the process, as seen in China, but aren't required. Economic pressures and the growing rights of women have done just as much in developed states to kill population growth, limiting births is only a necessity in extreme cases like India or China.
After seeing your reaction video the other day I've listened to the book four times just wanted to let you know. The awesome thing is Wil Wheaton reads the book.
The reason this movie took SO LONG to get made after being announced is to get all the licensing done. The a team van was in there they aren't Warner brother, there are lots on non-WB stuff in there (Akira bike, Freddy, terminator) lots video game references that WB doesn't own. I don't know if Disney ended up licensing their stuff but a lot of other property did because it's Steven Speilberg, hello, lol.
Some helpful Easter Eggs for you, which many have caught on: 1. 0:33 - I originally thought that was Deadpool and Lady Deadpool passing Wade. But thanks to a fellow user I know from Reddit, and the fact that RPO is a WB movie, it may be Harley Quinn and Slade Wilson (Deathstroke), as both are DC characters that Warner Brothers owns. In fact, that's not just Harley Quinn and Deathstroke. Both Harley and Deathstroke are dressed as they are seen is in the video game Batman: Arkham Knight. 2. 0:45 - The Iron Giant, of course. I'm glad to see that beautiful character on the big screen once again (and I hope Vin Diesal is voicing the character once more). :D 3. 0:52 - I think this may be a real world scene set in the past, after Halliday has gotten the BTTF DeLorean mentioned in the book (it seems rather bright and colorful to contrast the future setting). Or this could be Wade testing out the DeLorean after getting passed the first gate. 4. 1:00 - Silly Freddy Krueger! You don't belong in this fight! XD 5. 1:11 - Not only is the A-Team van present on the right side of the screen, but it looks like Christine, the 1958 Plymouth Fury from the John Carpenter adaptation of Stephen King's Christine is going to be in the race as well (good to see that beautiful car on the screen once more). BTW, for those who are wondering why I worded the description like that, it's because in King's book, Christine is described as a four-door Plymouth Fury, which didn't exist in real life, and that certainly looks like the two-door Fury as seen in the film. 3. 1:35 - I do believe that's Art3mis rocking Kaneda's bike from the cyberpunk anime classic, Akira! 4. 1:40 to 1:41 - Yep, that's Kaneda's bike. Rather fitting for her. 5. 1:42 - 1:45 - Look at the DeLorean hauling ass! It'd make Doc Brown proud! Beautiful seeing that machine once more on the big screen. Also, at 1:45 Christine shows up on the right side on the screen for a brief moment. 6. 1:48 - Good rear view of the Kaneda's Bike. But what caught my attention was on the right side of the screen. ****! That's the second time that Mad Max's V8 Interceptor has been on the big screen recently and gotten smashed up! Seriously, did George Miller have it in the contract for the licensing of the Interceptor that it gets smashed up in all recent films? Come on! 7. 0:57 - The Joust knight and bird attacking the giant scorpion mech! At 0:58, it gets turned into the Egg, just like in the game. 8. 1:01 (how ironic) - There's Duke Nukem! He's the one on the right side of the screen shooting the rocket launcher, just shortly after Freddy Krueger bites the dust. 9. 1:21 - After looking closer at Christine on the right side of the screen, I do believe that's Laura Croft from Tomb Raider (pre-reboot) with her arm draped on her roof, and it looks like she's talking to Dizzy Wallin from the Gears of War franchise. Also, on the lower left side of the frame, that looks like the car from the arcade classic Pole Position. 10. 1:29 - Apparently, the race is taking place in a virtual version of New York City, as you can see the reflection of the Statue of Liberty in the green light before it comes on. 11. 1:38 - It looks like the Orc/Troll (I assume that's I-Rok) is apparently using a modified Bigfoot monster truck for the race. If you pause at the 1:38 time stamp, you can see the iconic Bigfoot logo. And the DeLoraen looks like it has a rough landing shortly after that (seriously, if you go frame by frame, you can see the front hood pops up and then slams shut). 12. The orchestra music you hear is a rendering of the song Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. This actually ties into RPO for the fact that Ernest Cline, the writer of the book, has stated in many interviews that he was inspired by the Roald Diehl book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory for RPO. He imagined Willy Wonka being a game designer and hiding his golden ticket hunt inside of his most popular video game.
Spoilers from the book: Halliday, who created the OASIS, grew up in the 1980s which all the 80s references come up. During 2045, the United States is overpopulated and VR is usually used by almost everyone. A bunch of kids even go to school in the Oasis. The VR, OASIS is given to everyone and you can even buy dlc upgrades like weapons, cars, homes, clothes, bases or even planets.Later on Halliday dies and he sends an email to every OASIS players telling them about a contest that he and his co founder created. He hid 3 easters eggs puzzles in the OASIS world. The first player who finds all 3 Easter eggs and gets the keys wins a fortune and inherits the entire OASIS. The users in silver with IOI as a logo on their shirts work for a company whose sole purpose is to find the easter eggs. Users not in this company call them sixers and do not spend one night sleeping until they find the easter eggs. This company acts as the villain figure wants to start charging users for using OASIS. Wade Watts (the main character) is trying to find the easter eggs solo. When an easter egg is found, the user gets a key which unlocks a puzzle riddle game the user has to solve before getting another clue for the next easter egg. One the player has solved the certain puzzle, he/ she earns a key, the one you see at the end. You need 3 of these keys to unlock the gate in which the final puzzle to inherit the OASIS is located.
Everyone keeps saying it's the tron cycle it's actually the Akira cycle. Also in the beginning of the race you'll see the classic car from the movie Christine also the van from the A-team , also dancing in the air you can see Gandalf
I loved this book. Spielberg is mentioned several times in the book, so I'm interested to see if he references himself in the movie...I know that's really Meta, but the book is really Meta. Anyway, the book is like a love letter to geek culture. I was particularly impressed that the book dived deeper into geekiness than just Star Wars and Star Trek. Can't wait for the movie.
people escape into Oasis because the world is shit the world is shit because everyone escapes into a VR universe its a really interesting book. it doesn't demonize the internet and video games by any measure, but it also is a cautionary tale about overindulgence in those things and not living the real life
Everyone's freaking out about the references. I'm freaking out wondering if this is something we can eventually do in vr. Oh how awesome that would be.
"Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka + and "Tom Sawyer" from Rush In the van + qBert, Garbage Pail Kids,+ '80s era Batman Logo,+ VH1 At the party " ***** Harley Quinn and Deathstroke, Conan the Barbarian, Gandalf,Iron Giant on the cliff, DeLorean drifting, In the battle - Joust,Orc from Lord of the Rings with assault rifle from Halo. I thought that was deadpool with Harley Quinn and death stroke behind the iron giant, or deadpool behind the iron giant. And yes that is an Akira bike.
In the books, everything POP has gone inside the Oasis. From Star Wars to Lord of the rings, passing from Mork and Mindy to end to every conceivable flik aired. Also all videogames, song or book ever made in the 80',90',2000' and on. Did you see the Akira electromagnetic motorbike in the trailer?
Freddy Krueger, the iron giant, Halo, Gears of War, the deloran from back to the future, The World of Warcraft, A-Team's Van, Bigfoot (monster truck), Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, and Christine (the car).
I suggest you guys read the book before watching the upcoming movie, I promise you'll get a more sense of the surround of the movie, because seeing your reaction you guys don't get the gist of the movie just by the trailer (which of course many who haven't read the book wouldn't,nothing wrong with that) but if you read the book you'll get another feeling of awe, excitement of the trailer.
I find it incredibly sad that these "Nerd" experts don't know about Ready Player One. Next thing will find out that they don't know what the Foundation Series is, Or Dune, Or Starship Troopers. It's getting to the point where if you play Call of Duty a couple hours a day, you have some nerd authority.
I guarantee right now at this moment within the hq for oculus, vive, and PlayStation vr team for sure they are all brainstorming on how to make s world similar to the oasis.
I'm so pumped for this, I loved the book. I hope they're faithful to the plot, the trailer didn't really seem like the book very much. I don't know what was up with that car race, like they made that seem like a huge deal. I'm reserving judgment for now.
Well Steven Spielberg is working on it, so anything that WB doesn't have the licence for, they can just get Steven to ask for it, he's good friends with loads of company's, most people will say "hell yes i want my thing in your movie" =P And when did you ever think you'd see a race between the Bike from Akira and the BTTF Delrorean on screen? lol
Can't wait for the other trailers! Take all the time you guys need, love yah!!!
That Robot and Orc looking guy were using the Halo Assault Rifle.
Strav 23 haha, that's what I thought too...
Strav 23 they were. In that same scene duke nukem was there as well shooting the rocket launcher
Strav 23 I spotted the halo assault rifle first time I watched the trailer XD
That was Gandalf who was with the people that were floating and dancing.
The Orc looking guy is Aech.
the music that plays in the trailer is Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka.
finally someone got it lol it plays into what takes place in the movie.
Deatstroke, Harley Quinn, the Delorean, Kaneda' s bike, Freddy Krueger and the freaking Iron Giant just from the 1st trailer...wow!!!
You missed the battle Ostriches from Joust. Look in the scorpion's claws.
Starsky & Hutch car
How many of of you have seen tron?
What, seriously? None of you have seen tron?
Sh*t, I was really banking on that.
It was the akira bike
DeltanStudios With Tron wheels.
SAO Abridged reference nice lol
I loved the subtle use of "Pure Imagination" in the background.
It was that! :D
if you look close at the part when freddy kruger gets killde you can see the man him self DUKE NUKEM shooting a rocket =D
The Orc dude jumping at them is holding the Halo Assault Rifle too.
I loved this reaction lmao
"IS THAT THE DELOREAN?"
"IS THAT HARRY POTTER?"
"IS THAT FUCKING FREDDY KRUEGER"
Deadpool was walking with Iron Giant. And in that race parking lot, you can see Lara Croft, Stephen King's Christine car, and the A-Team van.
That wasn't Deadpool with the Iron Giant. While it is the hardest character to identify in the trailer (unless better researchers on the web have found out more. I haven't looked around the 'net this morning to see.), my money is that it is going to be a character named Art3mis, and she is wearing an Elektra outfit, even though Elektra used sai's, not swords. mavencree- its deathstroke.. I very much doubt marvel would let warner use Deadpool.
I think it is Daito/Shoto with the swords and Parzival in the foreground.
The shot is then taken from the quest then they acquire the (SPOILER)capsule.
It is not so hard to figure out that they had to replace the reward for that quest with the Iron Giant due to the Japanese attitude towards copyright...
its lady deadpool next to the iron giant notice the pony tail.
Daniel Muñoz it's deadpool, you can see his X bandolier
I'm glad Shane has read the book. It's really good, I recommend it for anyone who claims to be a nerd. Ta'Jah Mary No. It's just like games today. Money you have goes into the Oasis, not the other way around.
But you can use Oasis money to buy things in the real world. For example, at one point in the book, the main character pays another Oasis character (a pizza joint?) and has real food delivered to his real world apartment. Oasis $ is so valuable to some people, that they will take your avatar paying their avatar to get real world stuff.
yeah the song before Tom Sawyer song was Pure Imagination from Willy Wanka, and the last notes at the end were also part of Pure Imagination.
I like how Shane is the only one who really knows what's going on
This is my favorite book. I'm so excited but also nervous that they won't be able to get a hold of a fraction of the licensing required to make a direct translation onto the big screen.
Ready Player One looks like a nerds dream come true for a movie :D I'll definitely be checking this out!
I've always wanted to see a race between the DeLorean, Mad Max's interceptor, the A-Team van, Christine (Stephen King), a Pole Position F1 car (i'm going to assume, because video games), and an Akira bike, I just didn't realize until now
There is no car race in the book....
Merecir in the trailer you can see it says "Race for the Copper Key" so this is very much an added challenge
I re-watched it frame by frame. It says "win the copper key".

I think that was the Akira motorcycle.
Definitely, it was doing the iconic bike slide.
I thought it was a Light Cycle from Tron
zilla universe dude...
this reaction video is the reason why i and i think most people watch reaction videos. Genuine, funny and emotional. just finished the book and cant wait to see the film. great channel
spielberg can get anything he wants, we'll maybe get batman and bugs bunny in the same movie (wait, thats both WB. whatever, you get what i mean).
Soooo many cool cars from the 80's in that race. The DeLorean time machine, Christine, the A-Team van, and after the wrecking ball swings, you can see Mad max's Interceptor rolling on the right, and that's Bigfoot crashing through the cars.
I loved this book, if the movie is half as good it'll be amazing!!!
Arnold was Cyberdine Syetems Model T101.
Arnold was Cyberdyne Systems T-800 series, model 101, in all but Terminator 3. He was a T-850 model 101 in Terminator 3.
And the model number (101) is the external appearance (Arnie), while T-800 refers to the endoskeleton version (the metal parts). Hope this helps :)
Book was amazing! Apparently almost all of the pop culture references will be in the movie. There was no licensing issues. Spielberg did say he was going to be lax on his own movie references.
Just seeing Akira's bike in this trailer was hype as fuck.
“Shut up and take my money!”
BEING ABLE TO BECOME ANY VIDEO GAME CHARACTER SOUNDS COOL MAN
"PURE IMAGINATION", 1:23-1:48, CLASSIC!!!!

Paul McCloud that would make alot of sense for that to happened
Best reaction I've seen so far.
Eric at the end - cracking me up. 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣
After seeing your reaction video the other day I've listened to the book four times just wanted to let you know. The awesome thing is Wil Wheaton reads the book.
This film looks AMAZING!!!
" That key went DEEP" - Calvin, my hero
Awesome save on when being asked "Why would you walk in a room if you had the DeLorean?"
When the cars jumped that crazy ramp. After you see the Delorean, that caddy was Christine right?
IM SO EXCITED
Early in the trailer Pure Imagination started playing. Eric only heard it at the end... :)
1:43 He's holding an Assault Rifle from Halo.
The reason this movie took SO LONG to get made after being announced is to get all the licensing done. Everyone keeps saying it's the tron cycle it's actually the Akira cycle. Also in the beginning of the race you'll see the classic car from the movie Christine also the van from the A-team , also dancing in the air you can see Gandalf
Ah you guys are Rush fans, sweet.
The plus thing is the Iron Giant is on the HALO RING!
This is literally the biggest crossover of movie history
I loved this book. Spielberg is mentioned several times in the book, so I'm interested to see if he references himself in the movie...I know that's really Meta, but the book is really Meta. Anyway, the book is like a love letter to geek culture. I was particularly impressed that the book dived deeper into geekiness than just Star Wars and Star Trek. Can't wait for the movie.
I'm going to have to read the book again now. If you haven't read it, treat yourself. It's a fantastic story.
I don't think I've ever paused a video so much
Look at you nerds rocking out to Tom Sawyer, you nerds! ❤
people escape into Oasis because the world is shit
the world is shit because everyone escapes into a VR universe
its a really interesting book. it doesn't demonize the internet and video games by any measure, but it also is a cautionary tale about overindulgence in those things and not living the real life
You guys gotta read the book it’s sooo good
You guys know Rush, I can die happy now.
I want to read this so bad!!
Everyone's freaking out about the references. I'm freaking out wondering if this is something we can eventually do in vr. Oh how awesome that would be.
TheDark4light so cool
This trailer is so perfect I feel like they should not release ANY others until after the movie is released!!!
"Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka + and "Tom Sawyer" from Rush In the van + qBert, Garbage Pail Kids,+ '80s era Batman Logo,+ VH1 At the party "

Eric Know his music.
I thought that was deadpool with Harley Quinn and death stroke behind the iron giant, or deadpool behind the iron giant. And yes that is an Akira bike.
Why is this video not available all of a sudden?
The licensing department is gonna get an Oscar for this.
All the references that will be in this movie are gonna give me an aneurysm
I got chills watching this. This is going to be the greatest video game/pop culture movie ever made. Unless it sucks. It better not suck.
Read the book!
"Tron--"
"Is that a fucking Akira bike?!"
Eric knows.
basically its finding the one piece
i loved the book and i hope to love the movie xd
My face when I saw the kaneda's bike from Akira
I already know the CinemaSins tag for this movie: Easter Egg-The Movie.
This one looks very interesting.
Thought I was the only one who spotted the bike Kaneda used on Akira
Anyone else see the Halo assault rifle at 1:44?
Back to the Future made it in because Spielberg was the producer. Amblin has the rights to it. They made many of the biggest movies of the 80's.
They missed the Mad Max MFP V8 Interceptor!
So many references
THE A TEAM TRUCK
Cool to know you like some good old prog rock.
*Gen Xer's living large and in charge!*
Freddy Kreuger being blasted with a Halo weapon?! Holy shit 😮
the t-1000 is the gooey guy
I suggest you guys read the book before watching the upcoming movie, I promise you'll get a more sense of the surround of the movie, because seeing your reaction you guys don't get the gist of the movie just by the trailer (which of course many who haven't read the book wouldn't,nothing wrong with that) but if you read the book you'll get another feeling of awe, excitement of the trailer.
batman on a scorpion deathstroke and harley. freddy krugger iron giant . steven spielberg can do it all. love it
Was that a xenomorph standing next to the Iron Giant?
I find it incredibly sad that these "Nerd" experts don't know about Ready Player One. Next thing will find out that they don't know what the Foundation Series is, Or Dune, Or Starship Troopers. It's getting to the point where if you play Call of Duty a couple hours a day, you have some nerd authority.
Damn right. A nerd who doesn't reads sci fi or fantasy shouldn't be allowed to call himself a nerd
They have never claimed to be nerd experts. People should be able to enjoy things without being experts about it.
Can someone tell me who the ninja looking dude was in the scene with the Iron Giant.
That is why it has a willy wonka reference, the creator of the oasis does basically the same thing thas willy wonka does with it's factory
I guarantee right now at this moment within the hq for oculus, vive, and PlayStation vr team for sure they are all brainstorming on how to make s world similar to the oasis.
the bikes not from Tron....its the bike from Akira.
I'm so pumped for this, I loved the book. I hope they're faithful to the plot, the trailer didn't really seem like the book very much. I don't know what was up with that car race, like they made that seem like a huge deal. I'm reserving judgment for now.
And the winner didn't get a billion dollars.... They got 480 billion
Well Steven Spielberg is working on it, so anything that WB doesn't have the licence for, they can just get Steven to ask for it, he's good friends with loads of company's, most people will say "hell yes i want my thing in your movie" =P
And when did you ever think you'd see a race between the Bike from Akira and the BTTF Delrorean on screen? lol
I was hoping I wasn't goin crazy and being the only one who heard Willy Wonka
who here watches the trailer because of iron giant ..trailer got lit because of him
* sees Iron Giant *
I'm in.
