- What have BMW and Toyota done? Does it feel weird having a JDM car built in Austria? is it slower than my previous cars, the 2015 BMW M4 or even the 2016 M235i? I took the time on this day to collect my thoughts and share a review of my 2021 MK5 Toyota Supra after owning it for 4 months and over 4000 miles

If you have a ~$50k budget the Supra is perfect BUT if you need 4 seats an M2 comp would be better AND if you'd need 4 doors a Civic Type-R will fit your needs better

Curious as to how tall you are and how you fit. I'm 6'3'' and wondering how comfortable it would be. Not a daily driver.
@@matthodges640 I’m 6”2 and fit well even with a helmet. I would try and sit in one if I were you as I know some people have longer torsos and don’t fit
i cross shopped the supra and the M2 comp. but i didn't need backseats and the M2 comp is easily $20k more, so the decision was easy. there will also be a new 2023 M2, so you might want to wait to pull the trigger on an M2 comp until you drive one of those
If you need 4 seats I would never buy a 2 door coupe because those back seats are worthless.
I just received my Supra and started my own channel and will be uploading moods as I go .. but I had to say this channel is awesome .. you should have more than 4k subs ! Good job on the review bro
Had mine since early April and it's been an absolute thrill to drive and experience. I do agree that the stock two tone wheels are off putting and I'm looking into swapping them out for Rays G025s. There are aftermarket parts that can delete the door fake vent and even make the hood ones functional. As for the interior it is still designed by Toyota but they used BMW parts where they had to. There's even Toyota specific parts found throughout the car like if you remove the smartphone cubby cover which is just clipped on, it'll have the Toyota logo under it, or the gauges, etc. So many people approach me to compliment the car especially non-car people are surprised that it's a Toyota. All that hate it gets online I feel are people that don't understand Toyota couldn't make a 3JZ for one car and keeping that $50-$55k price. In fact, the MKIV didn't even sell well, yet many other Toyota/Lexus cars had the JZ and it got popular after it's life with Fast and Furious, video games, and people discovering how tuner friendly it was. The MKV is also looking to be tuner friendly once the 2021 ECU gets unlocked but until then, it's still a very uncommon and striking car to see in person. I agree with the changes you would like to see in the interior and I would also add less gloss black especially on the door handles where they get touched on a lot. There are aftermarket carbon fiber covers that can go over them and better fit the look, but that should be stock.
1000% agree with you, it's really funny how things turn out, when the MK4 came out no one even blinked an eye. Even now if you were to drive a stock MK4 vs similar cars from that era I bet it wouldn't win.I've also thought about replacing the cheap-looking piano black with CF pieces but I want to do more important mods first

Great video and love the car man. Exactly how I want my spec out with the white and the carbon fiber mirror caps. After seeing yours I’ll def have to powder coat my wheel. Have you thought about an after market steering wheel? Stock one looks trash from photos (never felt it). I should be getting mine around the spring! So excited.

M2 comp is definitely the best car BMW has made in my opinion, this MK5 Supra isn’t far off tho.
But Supra is faster on track and cost less

I see you had a manual M4 before, do you miss or regret that Toyota didn't put a manual in the Supra? If they offered a manual, would you have preferred that?
Great question but I do not miss the manual, the 8zf in the Supra is great and I personally don't consider myself a die hard manual guy unless it's Cayman GT4

Beautiful car and great performance, but I really dislike the way it sounds. I am thinking of getting one but the one thing holding me back is the exhaust note just doesn't sound good to me.

this another great review while most are...this is going out to ALL car-gurus/enthusiasts...if one was going thru with full purchase, and for the long haul(long-term-ownership) which car? choosing only one...the 2022 mx5-RF(manual) or the 2022 supra(3.0) and if all colors/pkgs were aval.this seems to be a pondering fork-in-the-road.
Are you going to turn your car into a track only race car-> mx5. Otherwise Supra will be more fun

One question - lots of reports of super wind buffeting noise, did you experience that and have to use an aftermarket deflector, or was it not really an issue for you?
Happy to help. I spent $8 to make wind deflectors when I first got the car completely fixed the issue. then my wife bought me aftermarket wind deflectors ~$100 as a gift

I love tht thy worked together to produce the car but the power wayy to low and delivery of power is worse when launching from stand still if tht was fixed definitely be a dope car 500hp up would hav been greatly appreciated
A good friend has wider wheels on his Supra and the launch from a dig is buttery smooth. Now if I just had more money for wheels lol

I know your vid is old but looking for a car now. Is your colour “absolute zero” white? It looks like it has a pearl effect at times and thought it was to be a gloss white. I am in Canada in which Toyota offers less colours? Don’t know if they think we are colour blind up north or not. Thanks!
Yep it’s absolute zero I would say it’s more gloss than pearl. Didn’t know you guys had less colors but I think white should be available.
@@Powaup Thanks for the reply! Looking at the 2.0 if available and it only comes in white, red and black. The 3.0 comes in additional blue and silver. I have a Lexus IS as I thought it was age appropriate at 55+. I think a 2.0 would suit me fine now for a daily summer driver. Enjoy your vids! Keep up the good work!

How would you compare this to the m4? Been considering the 2 cars but can’t decide, one factor for me is trunk space/seating space in the front and overall the better feeing car
Supra is much more engaging/fun since you sit lower, it’s a real sports car and faster than an M4 on track. Now if you need storage space, and back seats M4 will be a better fit, it’s more convenient in that aspect. An M2 might be a good middle ground for you

I want to buy a MK5 Supra but I wish they gave options on the wheels. Maybe a full one color wheel instead of the 2 tone wheel option they give out now which honestly makes the car look off.
Yea I had to powder coat the wheels soon as I got mine. Otherwise if you can find an A91 car they come with black wheels from factory but then you don't get a HUD. If I were you I would consider waiting for the 2022 model year to be announced and see what changes they bring

i think the 'concern' would not be present if toyota teamed up with mazda or honda...this car reminds me of the hypothetical-mix...would buyers still flock to HONDA IF mercedes-benz teamed up with honda to bring back/sell the S-2000? i get why buyers are concerned to a point;if another Japanese maker was teamed up without bmw in the picture,there would be zero-concern(s).

It seemed like you mentioned that you found a great lease deal in the beginning of your video. Do you need to return the car back to original condition before you return it? Or do you plan on buying the car at the end of the lease?

Awesome car, I'm thinking about getting one. So wouldn't the car sound better with a catless downpipe. I thought the cat muffles the noise and you get a more straight through airflow.
Louder, yes, better, debatable. Also you’ll get a lot more fuel smell. Which I didn’t enjoy last time I had a catless downpipe

As an owner of one of these in red. I would have been happy to settle for a v6 version instead of a straight six if that meant it was built by Toyota reliabillity. Toyota has an escape goat now, if problems start to arise with this car later on, Toyota would just say it was BMW's poor manufacturing.

Powerneedy catted Downipe, yes it did throw a CEL unfortunately but I was able to clear it after putting the car in maintenance mode and plugging in an obd2 reader

The fake bits are made to be modded to be functional tho according to the GR team.
There's a good video on RUclips by Jackie Ding that covers how most fake vents are actually non-functional. For example, the door "vent" leads to nothing
How much do you pay a month on the car itself and how much is your car insurance a month? I been wanting to try out the supra since I fell in love with it a couple years ago. I got a chevy cruze 1st gen lt trim that has been nothing but problems from day 1 and am looking to trade in my 1st car to maybe the supra.
payment is 611 before tax and insurance is $130/month
I wanna snatch a A90 supra as my first self-paid car. But my budget, experience and convenience say no... I hope Toyota will still sell these bad boys 3 years later.

I do! they're a lot louder with the downpipe but not crazy long like the 2020 model

BMW parts didn’t meet Toyotas standards and had to be remade for quality. So the bmw engine is good enough for Toyota to have it under their name

No you do not. Interestingly people have gotten hp gains on this platform without a tune

That's the only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger.. and I'm only 5'7 170lbs. Hit my head slightly Everytime getting in or out.

Use the short cut keys to get to Sport Mode. No dinosaur arms necessary.
What short cut keys?
@@Powaup The number keys 1-8. When you are on the screen you want to assign to one of the numbers, press and hold the number button until it beeps. The buttons are also touch sensitive so if you run your finger lightly across it will show you what it’s assigned to on the display.
@@kayanoreeves1949 tried assign sport button but it’s not working. There’s isn’t anywhere in the regular menus where I can engage sports mode so I can’t set this up unfortunately
@@Powaup sorry, thought it would work for any screen. I’ll play around in my Supra. Maybe there’s another way to get to Sport mode quickly.
What’s a good price for one currently in the market for 2021
Seems like 60k new would be a decent deal on a car with a 57k MSRP. To give you some context: Dealers are asking $7k markup. My car is currently reselling for more than what I paid for too

Yeah I don't get the knock on the BMW match up, Toyota only made one good Supra generation and this Supra is faster than the RCF and has less power and costs less that's a 100% Toyota effort for a rear drive front engine coupe sooo

on a serious note, I have two massive questions, you leased the supra. It makes me happy to see I'm not the only one that isnt against the idea. With that being said, I've never leased so can someone please explain to me two things.
1) When leasing, what happens to your lease when you mod the vehicle like Powaup has done?
2) Insurance. Im gonna assume you need full coverage on a lease, and that's never an issue (correct me if I'm wrong on it being necessary or not) BUT what happens to your lease if you get into a wreck or damage the vehicle, or worse, total it?
I'm curious too. I didn't think you could mod a leased vehicle.
1) You can mod the car all you want but if you plan on turning the car in at lease end you'll want to take it back to stock (just as if you were selling a used car)
2) It works essentially the same as if you owned the car but one thing to make sure of is to be sure your lease includes GAP insurance just in case your insurance doesn't pay you out for the full value of the damage
Having a hard time deciding between this and the challenger. Now if they toss a manual in the supra by 2025 I know exactly what I'm getting.
Very different cars. But a Supra with the right mods can beat a hellcat in a straight line

I did get CEL but it's calmed down recently maybe it's "settled in" no JB4 here although I did have one on my M4

The lease on those cars is terrible. I had to look it up.
Sure if you find a good lease deal, but they hold their value well, and credit unions will finance under 3%. Even a 72 mo loan at toyota's awful 6.44% is about the same as a lease (zero down, pay taxes cash). And in 3 years you would have $10k-15k in equity.
I mean if you got a good deal its worth it, but the standard lease is so bad, even a good deal isn't really.
It's a car you just don't lease.
I got lucky with a great deal, you are correct, most curent Supra leases have not been good

@@m6kayluh If you need 4 doors I would say a VW GTI otherwise a BRZ/86 would be ideal since it's RWD. Both cars are 4 cylinders so not too bad on fuel economy

It’s all relative right. If you make $30k a year it is but if you’re over $150k it’s not too bad. That said, the value you get for the A90 Supra is a bargain considering a Z4 cost a lot more
Is it a bad thing this union.....you ask?? If you are a Toyota guy....it is awful. There is a reason people choose Toyota sports cars and not BMW. We like our cars to go more than 50K miles before starting to fall apart. Toyota can keep this offering. This, Like BMW....is a lease-able car only

Only reason the Supra is “iconic” is because of Paul Walker. End of story. Toyota had to have known this. They even brought Cody Walker on to help sell the 2020 a90. The Supra mk5 is a love letter from Toyota to Paul Walker. Paul Walker had a Supra mk4. But they also knew that paul had a fleet of 7 BMWs he owned when he died. Heck, Paul Walker even tracked with BMWs. Paul was also a huge fan of Porsche. And that comes thru in the rear hips of the mk5 similar to the Porsche. Many ppl thought it was gonna be a 8 cylinder or make it like the LFA. But that’s not true Supra. I-6 and single turbo. That’s a Supra. Just wished Toyota never came out with the 2.0

I wish Toyota, make a "GT" four seater Mark 5 , and redo the Dashboard into a "fighter jet dashboard", give the vehicle its own "chime" , and stretch the "nose" 2 inches.
The M3 has a cool dashboard in M mode but I'm not a fan of the nose of that car
