36 Rafale are simply not enough. India should have ordered 100 at least. Even right now India is wasting time in testing new MMRCA planes. Just order 126 more Rafale Trench 4.
kudos to this news channel who are not just focusing on entertainment massala news but some real thing. I wish other news channels could learn something from em.
Rafale is a smart choice for India it’s a great platform and a step away from Russian military tech which has consistently underperformed in its invasion of Ukraine. India should consider the carrier version as well as it allows easy conversion between both forces in the event of a naval or land conflict.
India needs at least two more Rafale squadron for Hasimara and Ambala so that more numbers of fighters are patrolling in the Air. Currently India's AWACS strength are not in required numbers so Airforce need to keep pressure on government of india. I wonder if we have any AWACS deployed in the eastern region. Not sure why we are not procuring more Advance Phalcon AWACS from Israel in parallel developing our own system. It will take time for us to build advance sensors and masters in the weaponry. Airforce need force multiplier from fighter aircraft, AWACS, Mid Air refuller, Combat Capable UAV and multi layered missile defence systems.
Wonderful and insightful piece by Vishnu and his team. The interaction with the young pilots and watching the ritual of initiation of a young pilot to his first solo flight on Rafale was awesome. And Vishnu, I would gladly trade my job for yours.
Going back to 1962, I have personally seen different airport, known personal. IAF has always trained to the highest standard. The keeler brothers that were heroes, I have close friends of the family. Gnats that are antics compare to the latest. I salute them for protecting the country
Very good discussion. Good to see the expansive points of view at the higher level. Impressive. Great team spirit. India's security is in good hands with these air warriors.
Superb program, Vishnu, in your inimitable style and grace/humility. And the AM - What a thorough officer and gentleman! In Lean manufacturing terms, a true “Servant-Leader”, humble, articulate/well-spoken; knows the value of the foot soldier/airman and none of the pompous and ceremonial aura staff/command officers often project! IAF is truly well-served by such officers and of course, equally capable frontline forces (including the unsung heroes, the ground personnel)! Remembering my late uncle, who sadly perished way too young in a crash; commanded 108 Sqn. 🙏🙌 And of course, last but not least, the machine itself! Reliable, sophisticated yet rugged, another in a series of truly global products from France! Applaud this government’s sense of urgency and purpose to upgrade service capabilities! Long-neglected, hoping this momentum continues. Kudos…enjoy such presentations. 🙏
What an insightful man Air Marshal sir is, really impressive to just hear him. But I couldnt help notice one thing, while they showed hardened pens/bunker being built of Chinese side, we had only open air shelter and hangars for our such prized aircrafts specially when Hasimara is so close to Chinese border or maybe they do have hardened bunkers on our side as well but we didn't see in the show.
It is not India's cutting edge. It is a stop gap till Tejas is perfected (Mark 2 had already come a long way). Never rely on foreigners for critical technology. It WILL bite us in the long run (esp. when we at the time when we would strongly require their support)

Even if one imagines Rafale to be the best fighter in the world, there is no evidence of its indigenisation, at least I can't find any. On the other hand, China whom Rafales are supposed to counter, is using world-class pulsating production lines to speed up deliveries of its advanced J-20 Mighty Dragon stealth jet fighters. Pulsed production lines are manufacturing systems that use intermittent production cycles, where production occurs in short bursts or pulses, followed by periods of rest or downtime. The application of the new pulsating production lines and domestic engines had pushed the number of J-20s to equal, or even exceed, the number of US F-22 Raptors. Few Rafales will be no competition to PLAAF. China would be able to produce J-20s at its will, but India will not be able to import as many as it will need if a confrontation really happens - Dassault is already hard-pressed to scale up production to meet India's 84 import order besides its existing commitment to the French Armed Forces.

Its not always to be wise to be self reliant but to take wise decisions economically for your own good. There isn't any shame in doing so.
