To be bluntly honest, I'd never heard this before...I'm here cos of Susan Boyle. The passion is undeniable, the level of skill is superb...but the echo of Susan is definitely there, especially in the opening measures. It's uncanny how Susan captured this so well, although Elaine clearly has superior experience. but both ladies are honest and down-to-Earth, especially about each other. And Susan still has PLENTY of time to equal Elaine's success, as I'm sure she will. Two great British Songstresses. And one's Scottish, so even more kudos!

I've listened to each: Elaine Paige, Patti LuPone, Ruthie Henshall - each hailed for their talented performances. IMO Ruthie personifies Fantine in her interpretation -- I love her true to character version. However, I cannot deny that Susan Boyle's performance is the most powerful, forceful, heartfelt of all. It's why BGT's audience was on their feet when she opened her mouth to sing I Dreamed A Dream.

The reason susan boyles voice mesmerizeds people is because she is anointed by GOD her true identity was not revealed until this day and hour. She is truly an angel that was born in the FORM of a woman. Her voice is hypnotic and memorizing because I believe she sang in heaven. She was so special GOD SENT HER. TO EARTH TO BE A BLESSING TO MILIONS AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. ALL SHE DOES IS OPEN HER MOUTH AND THIS UNBELIEVABLE SOUND COMES OUT. This is an incredible artist, who's signature song was MEMORY in the musical cats, nobody can sing MEMORY the way she did, just like no other superman was like CHRISTOPHER REEVES, every artist has their own authentic strength, do not compare artists, it is like you being a parent and comparing your children, you should love them all the same. Even if a singer with a stronger voice sings MEMORY from CATS it will not have the effect this woman had singing it. This rendition of I dream a dream was cool it made me think of the soft rock 80's when songs like TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART were number one...Art is about appreciating different ways of doing a song, or a monologue, each person brings something different.
