Well...congratulations to you all! She was a remarkable voice. I listened to this countless times in my bedroom, back in the land before time (late ~1970s). Karen's voice shaped a significant part of my life....and I couldn't be more grateful. Best to all of you!
Karen certainly had a beautiful voice, stunning. He said one of her versions of a Beatles' song was the best version. Some people think that Sarah Vaughan had the best non operatic voice in English speaking world last century. Tony Bennet for instance. But with greats like these two, both are wonderful.
What a shame that someone who was so talented didn't see the incredibly talented woman that she was, impressive, admired, appreciated. For her to see herself as needing to eat less to have value is heartbreaking!
You are so right! So many people, including Helen Gurley Brown and the author of "The Fascinating Girl" push the garage that women MUST be thin in order to find love & be beautiful. If I had met either one, I would shove her face in a cake. And skinny people DO get sick, HGB!
Karen's mother was largely responsible for her lack of self-esteem and related insecurities. And when Karen eventually received public criticism about her physique/weight, it had an almost predictable affect on her self image. A very sad and difficult scenario. Thankfully, her incredible music lives on to inspire future generations.
@@joeshleb743 she apparently had no idea of the thousands of men out there who would have married her at any given moment and devoted themselves to her for life.

Oh what a voice.
What sets this rendition apart from anyone else's is sincerity, a sense of intimacy and warmth . When every other singer is singing DCFMA to a crowd. Karen is singing to each ONE in the crowd.
Yes, It was a great rendition as a separate song, but warmth and intimacy isn’t the backstory for this song when Evita sings it in the show. different approach for a different setting
I have heard many versions of this song, but this is the first to bring tears to a old man’s eyes. And that is saying much. Take a few minutes to enjoy such a great voice and historical song !!
As a boy, the volume was low on the phonograph and Karen's sweet voice danced across my bedroom as I went to sleep each night...learning of her passing broke my heart...and as the father of an anorexic daughter, those early nights were fuel to keep fighting, searching for help for her...
Hey MaryAnn, now when you hear every other singer sing this song you will say the same thing that ive said and a multitude of others that have heard Julie sing it, she owns it like a boss!
This is the best rendition of this song by any vocalist. I have always loved her voice. My college roommate in 1975 had all the Carpenters 8-track tapes. Great music.
I was shopping in the Safeway grocery in Jedda, Saudi Arabia when I first heard this version. I stopped to listen, and didn't move a bit until it was finished. Gone far too soon, Karen.
@Yvwic50 I understand why, and I'm not a Karen Carpenter fan. But song would stop me in my tracks, too. I'd pretend to decides between a can of tomato sauce, and a can of tomato puree -- for 6 minutes -- just not to look odd.
And the saddest thing is that she didn't think she was good enough... She couldn't have been more wrong... If anything she was too good for this mortal plane and the universe claimed her for its own...
Karen Carpenter was a talent of the highest magnitude. Her voice still moves me to tears. I had never heard this recording of her. Thank you for posting it!
Go out and live. The virus has a .34% fatality rate. You're having more health problems worrying about this bogeyman. If you're older or in an otherwise vulnerable health position, use common sense. I have never heard this rendition by Karen Carpenter! I thought I'd heard all her songs, wow! I was 17 in 1983 when she passed away, she was such a wonderful singer. Beautiful voice!
Me too same age never knew she died so long ago
@@Lincoln-m4eSame here as well. I grew up loving her music.
That makes me 2 years older, I was a Navy Diver when she died. I never heard this version, my first time.
I am blessed to have heard her voice since the late 70's. I am now 60 and she still has the voice of an angel and brings tears of joy.
101% agree❤
I'm 60 also. I grew up listening to Karen Carpenter.
My sentimentd exactly 😢
I'm 81 and still marvel at her lovely voice. RIP Karen.
When I listen to a song by The Carpenters I continue to be surprised by Karen's wonderful voice, it is a caress for my soul.
The purity of Karen Carpenter's voice, combined with the haunting lyrics make this a real masterpiece.
This is just stunning!! Her voice was just so pure and beautiful.
I’m 69 and remembering Karen’s voice what such a beautiful voice. I listen to her songs almost every day. I truly miss you!
Its 2023 and I am still heart broken , but your music is still with us , you are here with us all .
I am an old man and have heard many versions of this song, when I came across this i had to listen to it. I am glad I did such a voice best version I have heard ever, thank you Karen for bringing back great memories, sweet sorrow.
I have to agree. The most beautiful rendition of this song I've ever heard.
No match on singers of this song. Her singing resonates your body and makes the cells happy.
No opera just beauty
Simply the most profound female voice ever......there's not even a close second.....we lost her way too soon
+Ozzie Oswald When did she die ?
Thanks - I had not heard that.
she died more than 30 years ago :-(
Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 - February 4, 1983)
Julie Covington has sung this song much better
September 2024 and it's my first time hearing this version.😅
Me too. The first time. So great
2 October, 2024 - first time I heard this version. 69 years old. Very moved.
Well...congratulations to you all! She was a remarkable voice. I listened to this countless times in my bedroom, back in the land before time (late ~1970s).
Karen's voice shaped a significant part of my life....and I couldn't be more grateful. Best to all of you!
No, it's October
Same uk 🇬🇧
As John Lennon said, she has the best singing voce of all time.
Did he?
Where’s it say that?
@@MrAndrewFarrow google
Karen certainly had a beautiful voice, stunning. He said one of her versions of a Beatles' song was the best version. Some people think that Sarah Vaughan had the best non operatic voice in English speaking world last century. Tony Bennet for instance. But with greats like these two, both are wonderful.
@ST 068 if that's all you have to say STFU... Little person... Whatever he did or didn't do your not a pimple on his ass...

Never heard her sing this before. A delight to the ears ❤
Crystal clear voice, perfect diction, perfect tone and pitch. No using intruments to support the voice.
Amen.. I know that she is singing with the Angels in Heaven with George Michael.
Simply divine, one of the greatest female vocalists in the last seventy years.
Me, 71, still in awe.
Ja take -73- nadhera...

Immediately I run to defend her. ❤️❤️❤️
The music press vilified them constantly. Bet none of them could sing . . .
Karen Carpenter had one of the greatest singing voices of the 20th century.
Karen Carpenter had the most perfect contralto voice ever. I think of her so often.
Karen had the greatest singing voice of ANY century.
@@michaelbrandt5416 Your so right there.
The Carpenters were a revelation in the early 70's with their soft ballads...Karen was a fabulous singer. It breaks my heart she left us so early. This song is a testament to her exquisite voice. RIP
Karen left us way toooo early. Was working in LA the day we heard she had passed.. Of course it took many days to get through the news..
Only just heard this performance, what a fantastic interpretation of the song, the best I have ever heard, Karen is so sadly missed but her voice will last forever, I'm still in tears,
Most singers now are so enamored with their own voices that they never let the song speak. Karen does. Such a great loss to music. RIP.
I agree, although they have always done it...
Im also a 71 year old man living alone for over 40 years becer smiked nor drank alcohol happy years still grafting 8 or 9 hrs a day as a gardener for good people in deffrent great locations so I'm too old to cry for the song but I did cry for the great singer concerning her early avoudable death. Oh what a voice.
What sets this rendition apart from anyone else's is sincerity, a sense of intimacy and warmth . When every other singer is singing DCFMA to a crowd. Karen is singing to each ONE in the crowd.
Amen, totally agree.
Twat shut it
Nothing tames a man than the sound of a woman's sweet voice like Karen's😃😁😎
Es verdad canta para cada uno de nosotros increíble era muy especial
Yes, It was a great rendition as a separate song, but warmth and intimacy isn’t the backstory for this song when Evita sings it in the show. different approach for a different setting
I thought I had heard every song by her, so was a gift to hear this song. She was without parallel.
The purest most riveting voice by far that I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.
An absolutely unique talent, she'll always be missed.
Look up Suzan Erens version….equally stunning
Listening with tears streaming! Beautiful!
Doris Day too
totalmente de acuerdo
It's not just her matchless voice, it's her superb interpretation of the lyrics which is so moving.
I have heard many versions of this song, but this is the first to bring tears to a old man’s eyes. And that is saying much. Take a few minutes to enjoy such a great voice and historical song !!
Karen was always on key...Her voice never strained..amazing..
Its a pleasure listening to you XX
Agreed, she made it look so effortless.
She was reputed to have "perfect pitch"
As a boy, the volume was low on the phonograph and Karen's sweet voice danced across my bedroom as I went to sleep each night...learning of her passing broke my heart...and as the father of an anorexic daughter, those early nights were fuel to keep fighting, searching for help for her...
God bless you
Lbhunter63~ Wishing you well… and better and better….
I hope your daughter recovers well.
L....I did not know ur Daughter was Anx...! God Bless you all 🤗

This is THE version of this song. I have never heard anyone else come close. Her death was such a terrible loss.
Maryann Anderson omg. So beautiful 🌞
A terrible UNECESSARY loss...............
Im sorry but the original by The Majestic Julie Covington is the BEST
I just listened to this by Julie Covington for the first time. You're right. Her version is beautiful.
Hey MaryAnn, now when you hear every other singer sing this song you will say the same thing that ive said and a multitude of others that have heard Julie sing it, she owns it like a boss!
The amazing thing about her voice is that every note is friggin effortless.
This is the best rendition of this song by any vocalist. I have always loved her voice. My college roommate in 1975 had all the Carpenters 8-track tapes. Great music.
Madonna song that better
Karen Carpenter is still remembered and loved by so many fans throughout the world.
I was shopping in the Safeway grocery in Jedda, Saudi Arabia when I first heard this version. I stopped to listen, and didn't move a bit until it was finished. Gone far too soon, Karen.
She does truly nail it..!
yvwic50 unchanged melody
I brought my carpenter tape from Safeway Jeddah on the 747 label small world
@Yvwic50 I understand why, and I'm not a Karen Carpenter fan.
Karen Carpenter was one of the best female vocals in the past 50 years. Amazing voice!
Without a doubt.
And a phenomenal drummer, too!
And a phenomenal drummer, too!
Excelente versión cantada por Karen. The Best. Gracias. Thanks. Argentina María Verónica. ❤️😘
Karen Carpenter was a talent of the highest magnitude. Her voice still moves me to tears. I had never heard this recording of her. Thank you for posting it!
Same here.
Agreed
I am listening! Karen’s voice is glorious! Helps me cope with the isolation due to COVID 19.
Same sentiments, her voice is timeless as is the peace it relates
Same here, applause from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷💛💚
I absolutely agree. Her voice is indeed glorious and it does soften the edges of the COVID situation.
Go out and live. The virus has a .34% fatality rate. You're having more health problems worrying about this bogeyman.
If you're older or in an otherwise vulnerable health position, use common sense. Otherwise, get on with life. This world is lost and clings to this fleshly existence like that's all there is. We're all gonna die if something. We're killing ourselves over this and our nation's and our history and all we've known. This ain't the bubonic plague but we're such sissies, we are making too much out of this.
I agree. But wish he loaned her to us a little longer.
I followed her singing from early 70s. It is a great shame how her obsession destroyed her and took her away from us - her brother was so broken . Thank Karen for the beautiful songs she left for us.
One must take into account what conditioned Karen to have the disorder from which she died.
Indeed heartbreaking.
The purity of her tone and the beautiful melodic emotion she makes sound effortless .... and the clarity of every word.....
Her voice is simply out of this world...ethereal . A VOICE no one will ever be able to duplicate..
Even though she passed away so many years ago, her music and voice are eternal - so beautiful!
Karen Carpenter is on a very short list as the greatest female singer of all time. After thinking about it, she is on a shortlist as the greatest singer that has ever been on this planet.
You might want to put judith durham on that list , her rendition of danny boy is incredible .
@@fishy118 I agree. Incredible singer.
Linda Rondstadt and Ann Wilson are on that list too.
@@jeffinphx517 Phenomenal singers. What talents.
These are all a stretch, good voices for sure, but "best of all time", please.
What a voice! A top 3 all time female singer by anyone's standard!
A Voice for the ages was hers. And her death at such a young age was tragic, yet her supreme talent is still here in all of her music. She truly made each song her own.
Well said Fran......well said.
Julie Covington and Karen Carpenter versions are far better then Madonna’s effort.
@@kevinbalsdon4705 and she never had to reinvent herself or use Gimmickry to enhance her true talent.
Not over sung as it normally ends up, very pure expression from her crystal voice 👏💗
THIS! I love Elaine Paige, but this is supposed to be melancholy, not loud
I had no idea she'd sung this. This is one of the best versions there is.
A Fathers strength will carry you through
Me either. Saw the play years ago. Andrew Lloyd Webber such a gift to the people. Wonderful composer.
My two great loves Argentina...the homeland of my Parents and Karen...my platonic love...I will never forget them...Thank you
One of the BEST rendition of Evita's Song, with crystal clear sound.
I I have listened to many versions of this song.....But, Karen's version is the best RIP Karen we miss you
I am 67 years old and I still play Karen’s songs ! Her sudden death at such a young age makes me very sad .
Yes!
@@asa4824 I'm with you all the way asa and at 85 still have not heard it done better
She absolutely owns this song
I am 71 and didn’t know that Karen had covered this number.
Thank you for posting it
An absolute angel
Wow Doc
I got back from Nam and if she had been standing there I would have married her. I actually met my wife a few days later.
One of the most BEAUTIFUL voices of our lifetime 💔
Oh how I miss her heavenly voice. Thanks to Richard for getting this out to th public. Such a wonderful group you were.
The voice of an angel, she left the world too soon.
She is so beautiful singing
I was shocked decades later that to find she had died so young. Left me gutted.
Absolutely beautiful voice, taken from us far too soon, still feel great sadness listening to her .❤
Karen was the best female singer ever.... sure miss that girl....We've only just begun was the song we played leaving the church on my wedding day.....
This is the first time I've heard this sung by Karen Carpenter. Simply heavenly to listen to. Gone I know but never ever forgotten. Timeless beyond explanation!!
