Out of the box, you can lock the front diff only or lock both diffs together but you can't lock the rear diff only. This is not a good setup because with the front diff locked, the truck has almost zero steering. I switched the diff servo connectors on the receiver (swapped channels) so that I can lock the rear diff only or both diffs locked together. By locking the rear diff only, the front diff is left open so the truck can steer sharply while having the rear diff locked. This is the way it should have come from the factory. There really isn't a condition where you need to lock the front diff. This is an easy and zero cost mod that I suggest all Summit owners try. Cheers!

The summit is a legend. I’ve had 5. I wish traxxas would give it a refresh with some upgraded electronics/servos/and drivetrain. It’s really a great all around vehicle.
I’ve had my summit for around 4 years now, still stock with no issues at all. Only thing I added was the traxxas light bar to the roof. I run it in water, sand, snow, I’ve even plowed snow with it. Thing is awesome.
The best free mod you can do to a summit. Swap the channels for the front and rear diffs. If you make the rear diff lock first, you can still turn sharp because the front is not locked, but the rear can push better because it is locked. It really makes the summit a hard to stop on a trail truck.
Got a like from me! I love my old Summit.. won't ever get rid of it. (never get rid of anything really😂). You've got a couple of really great spots to run there! As far as the compressed the suspension.. dont sweat it. You can compress a spring forever and never lose any rebound. Cycling is what wears a spring. As always, thanks for all your hard work!
This is an awesome rc car IMO. I have one myself, though with mamba brushless, but yea. This is something else. A must have RC for all dads, that's for sure.
I absolutely love my summet I got the much older green one but the same thing. Once you upgrade you are shifting servos and put a slap reducer in the transmission you’re pretty good to go!! Some people have differential problems I never have even though I’m running a brushless system. Just keep on The maintenance. The differentials have a lot of slop inside the chassis which creates a lot of heat in the differential. Are use a little hot glue to keep it tight. Beautiful truck my man!!
You are going to see a lot of comments about going brushless, it really wakes up the bash side for sure. Just do it sensored to keep that crawl mode available.
I've had many different R/C cars but the Summit with just a few strengthened upgrade parts (like LEM diff gears, tranny/dogbone & driveshafts, it has been the most "all round enjoyable" R/C Car for me. Definitely two thumbs up for me too 👍👍👌😊🍻 Ooh yeah im also running the Dewalt 14.4V motor upgrade which increases both torque & speed.
Love the summit, I have the orange one. I kept mine brushed also but did put larger spur gear. Get the LEM dog carrier, it takes 90% of the forward/ reverse gear slop out. It's a must with this big guy and pretty inexpensive IMO.
The emaxx/tmaxx knuckles and axles fit that just so you know. I broke a knuckle on mine had some old emaxx knuckles kicking around and they were the same. The 6s system out of the revo 2.0 is extremely nuts too lol
I changed mine to where the middle selection on the diff switch is rear locked and front unlocked, a good compromise on some rough stuff and helps turning then full lock if I need it
Open diffs always have 50/50 torque distribution meaning when one wheel cannot generate torque because of low traction the other wheel gets the same amount of torque (nothing). Locked diffs bias torque so when you lift a wheel off the ground and it cannot generate any torque the opposite wheel on the ground isn't limited and itself will develop all the torque for that axle.
My girlfriend's summit crawled great brushless. Traxxas 6s esc with a 2200kv castle motor on 3s it was soooo fun made me jealous even tho I have 5 different Traxxas vehicles. Was pissed tho one micro servo stripped right when I first powered it on 😓🤷 was replaced by Traxxas but love it. Think about doing a swap! 🙏
on my erevo 2.0 I put the TiN shafts plus the VDK pistons for extra compression damping. The stock bodies are aluminum (probably clear andozided to prevent corrosion, but definitely not the PTFE coated ones.
Wanted one of these for a while. I wonder if actual monster truck tires would help it not nose down quite as fast. They seem to move more air. Just put em on the front. 😂🤷🏼♂️😜
I love my Summit... It only has 3 wheel drive right now 😭 ( blown diff I think) but I still terrorize the neighborhood with the suspension really tightened up for jumps and the huge locked up rc tires
Dude, last night I charged up my batteries and did a nice run for about 20 minutes outside feel good still have enough juice or I’m gonna go walk down the hill and go for a nice walk call me little wifey and pick up some pizza Summit!
Putting a brushless system kills the fun, you start breaking stuff especially the diffs . I tell everyone if you want a brushless summit just get an Erevo 2.0 and slap a summit body on it . The summit is made perfect for what it does . Plus it doesn’t crawl as well with brushless system . It cogs to much unless you get a nice sensored system
I did a brushless in mine. It’s really not necessary. I ended up gearing it down so much! Because in high range it was so fast. Too fast. This truck really Is happiest with a good 14 V Dewalt motor.
@@KernCountyFoamFlingers Easiest way to find one when you’re driving around pick up a power wheels kids toy that someone’s throwing away and take the motors out.
Agree 100% . I tell people all the time if you want a brushless summit just get an erevo 2.0 and put a summit body in it . The summit is perfect the way it is!
I got my purple one in yesterday. First summit & out of the box it won’t do anything. Green light on reciever, red light on esc 7cell NMHI batteries no steering, no forward no reverse. Help. Lol

Loved it!

What battery do you have in the Summit Li-po or NiMH and are they 2 or 1?
@@hi-shadow7676 I run 2-2cell Lipo batteries. NIMH is inferior old technology.
What noticeable differences would there be in the power since I can't get the Lipo batteries, only the NiMH ones.
Put scx6 spektrum esc and motor in, and proline hyrax wheels and tires made for the scx6, run it on 4s and then tell me how it goes!
I wish for that so much

I've had mine for 10 years now, and I feel it's one of the sweetest RC trucks ever made. Those lay-down springs make it stand out to me.
My first RC was a blue Traxxas summit, it is truly a remarkable truck.
Mine too. I completely agree.

I have the first edition, stock, and it is still running today with good maintenance. I wish Traxxas will refresh it, there is nothing like it.
The Summit is the only other Traxxas car I'd want. It's so weird it's cool!
Awesome Video Mark!! Yeah I love the Summit…it definitely is a unique “one of a kind” machine…very capable and it still has enough speed to be fun
Funny seeing you here Mr.Knockout lol

I like these but I did the brushless conversion and it made it ten times more fun
I got a yellow one. Gona assume a older model as it has no lights. . Can't wait to try it out
Install the aluminum brace for the rear, it saves the bulkhead

LEM, has good Alloy 7075 upgrades. Addressing the diffs & transmission. For the Summit. Worth a look 😊
I’m thinking abt converting my e revo 2.0 to a summit. These look so fun, even if the e revo is really hard to beat
A dude at my hobby store has a Summit with a Proline Jeep Wrangler body and Proline Trencher 3.8 tires. It looks way more badass than stock.

Traxxas offers a replacement light kit for the roof that is functional. I love my summit. But be careful of the tires on sharp rocks they are soft.
Part 5684.
I love the summit on my third one. They are very capable trucks so much fun.
Did they update this one yet? This is my favorite truck they make.
