Really great coverage. I agree about getting over the lawsuit stuff. I still get excited when I see new releases from any company. I actually think it looks like a sweet basher. But my X-maxx 6s was one of my favorite RCs and like you said…if I get up there in that price range again….the 8s X-maxx is going to be my top choice. For the most part, I run my bashers stock…so I could see running this box stock and loving it. The motor mount and location may present issues for the big motor brigade who like to jam the most power into their RCs. Again, wouldn’t be an issue for me…just something noted with the mount and location up against the steering post. Really enjoyed your videos on this new rig. For people looking for a truggy, it looks like they got another great option.

I don’t think in any way this is a knock off from the Kraton even though it resembles the look. It does appear to be a little bit more durable right out of the box. I can’t wait to see how Arrma responds.
I've been joking around that Traxxas has released a V6 Kraton, because of how similar they look on the outside, but they are indeed quite different beasts. I do love that Traxxas has provided mud/debris guards on the rear suspension, something I'd absolutely love to have on my Kraton. Sledge definitely looks like a solid basher truggy, and I'd absolutely consider it if I didn't have my Kraton already. Can't wait indeed to see how Arrma responds to this. All in all I'd say this is good -- more competition, more ideas being bounced back and forth between manufacturers, in the end it'll be us, the owners, who'll win.
The reason the fan boys are saying sue, is because Traxxas sued Arrma over the Nero and cantilever shocks. And they have a point, Trx should have never sued(but at the time Arrma was a small company). Cantilevers have been around on real cars and Rc's for a long time.
I personally own a nero fazon and my friend use to have a erevo before he traded it, he also had a v1 and there were so many things traxas took after sueing it is stupid, also the new sledge has so many arrma alike things there should be sometype of agreement, they took there platform and flip flopped the parts around put a ugly body on it and the chassis is bent already... sad, the exb kraton is stronger:)
the reason they are all saying that is because they are being cry babies.....also, it was the steering assembly and the shocks...but everyone only talks about the shocks since is the only thing they can really try to argue to have a valid point.
So why is arrma sueing traxxas because the tower to tower brace ha I and many other rc hobbyist were using tower brace years before arrma maybe I should sue arrma LOL
Good someone needs to put traxxas in their place. Over the years they've sued all the little guys into bankruptcy. The irony is they sued arrma over the nero shocks and steering assembly. Yet the sludge's is literally the same as the kraton's.

In my opinion traxxas didn’t copy arrma . They just made their version of the best way to make a truggy. Arrma just already new that chassis layout was the best way. Now traxxas finally realized it. To me that means Game on in the industry. Which in turn is excellent for us. Competition breeds innovation.👍

I’m especially interested in the dirt/bmx track and the grass hill you’re showing in this and many of your other videos. I live in Frisco/McKinney area and would love to take my X-Maxx bashing there. I bet if you tied the tires with some braided fishing line they would hold up, possibly get it rip full throttle without lifting the tires, and may take care of the over steer. If you have a 3D printer you could print up some TPU or TPE tire inserts instead of using foams.
The understeer could be two things, the standard servo isn't beefy enough, or reacts fast enough. Or the front end is too low and/or needs suspension tuning. While I like it, Traxxas always seems to pile on massive rims and tyres on their RCs. The differentials are tiny, and yet they persist in these gargantuan wheel and tyres. It adds to weight and rotating mass something chronic. Otherwise it looks like they spent a lot of time developing the Sledge before releasing it.
I chuckled to "we'll do the Kevin Talbot test"! Saying X-Maxx is only $200 more may be correct but the true figure will likely be a lot higher for many users due to the battery requirements. Many RC users will already own two 3S batteries required to run a Sledge so the total cost of buying it is $800. However, X-Maxx requires two 4S batteries so the total cost of an X-Maxx RTR will be circa $1200.

Traxxas has done a nice job working the kinks out of this brand new design. I just bought one and there is a night and day difference between it and earlier versions. Drivetrain is very smooth and the motor much quieter. No more surging either, it can now be driven smoothly at all speeds which was something that was not easily done with earlier versions. Plus, every bolt was nice and tight and every part looks installed perfectly. This might be the best vechile I have driven. I am a huge fan of the Talion exb and Maxx v2 but honestly, at least in my mind, this might have both beat. I can definitely see why it is priced higher than the Kraton. I actually think it's parts are superior to the exb Talion as well. Very happy with this bad boy.
Yeah they knew because of arrma lol. Ever recall the first xmaxx came out 6s!!. 25lbs truck on 6s lol. Noless when the came out with an 8s system cost $300 plus tax!!!. I would have been pissed because the rest of the parts couldn't handle 8s. But alot of people are going to buy this and they will have parts for it a year later lol
Nice rundown Mark. Traxxas definitely filled a void in their lineup with this one, and I can't wait to meet up with Sledge owners this summer and see one live. My stable is all Arrma at the moment, but I really like what Traxxas has done here. Should make for some interesting blasts at our local bmx tracks.
Ive been looking seriously at the Kronos XP V2, Kraton or This - and I must say this I believe takes the cake right out the box for ease of use and the ability to just get stuck in
I believe this is a true traxxas gem, i dig the blue body, SBG was right all the blue anodized aluminum would look together, SHARP= time to save them pennies!!
Damn, i still have a 2 wd Rusty VXL that was over 10 years old when i bought it, new ESC , wheels, bulletproofed the body and RPM all round and i have spanked that thing for the 6 or so years i have had it. It is the toughest of my RC though my Senton is still quite new.
hey mark, i noticed when running my revo 2.0, there definitely is a lot of servo under steer where the servos turn slow when tsm is on, but when i open my traxxas app and link to my bluetooth module it magically goes away. i don’t know if i changed something in the app to make it happen but maybe you see it as noteworthy
A small soft rubber ball put inside the drive cup will prevent the dog bone from falling out due to the expansion being caused when the rear end droops on jumps this takes up the expanded space , no droop screws required
0:52 there is a slot in the chassis as well wonder if its for clearance or maybe that opening is there for a a future Chassis that be used for Perhaps a new Nitro model.
This thing looks awesome. If it makes Arrma up their game on Kraton durability out of the box that's a win for everyone. Competition improves the breed.
Those clips in your battery box look awesome! I have limited use of my hands an think those would really help me out! Can you tell me where to get them?
On all my big trucks like this I run the belted Proline Trenchers so it's easier to handle at speed. They are huge but they handle so much better flat out.
The point is that Traxxas HAD her own style what chassis about and that makes there cars so spezial. There was „always“ the competition between Arrma and Traxxas, because they are the most dominating brands. It is legit to say that Traxxas want to serve the Arrma market! Anyway, that doesn’t mean it is bad, but it is strange that such a big brand seems to copy her opponents. BTW. Love your content, Greetings from Germany!
Awesome vid. I agree with the price vs Xmaxx talk.. as far as the suing traxxas nonsense. It’s a truggy. Truggy have been around long before Arrma. Still some butt hurt from the Nero after all these years?
And the biggy for new folks is cleaning, cleaning cleaning , maintain, maintain and maintain , learn as you go having fun but dont be put off by breaks as they are going to happen.
We have Xmaxx's, drove them only once so fare. My bro bought the Sledge too! I bought the Kraton 6s, because that's what the Sledge looked like and that made me go hmm. Bought the charging bundle too, to see what the people sitting around the big table offer out of the box.
Put it this way. If you're going to seriously bash with a Kraton how much would you need to put into a Kraton? You need a better chassis and better suspension arms. Plus the stock servo in the Kraton isn't the best either, the shock towers are also weak. So with those upgrades you're at or past the price of a Sledge.
Great videos, being that the E-revo 2.0 used to be your favorite I gotta pick your brain. I am on the fence on which one to buy, Sledge or the E-Revo 2.0. I’m not going to be doing much bashing but instead running on large open grassy fields, similar to your favorite spot, where I need excellent acceleration, top end and superb handling in the turns. With both running 6s, both stock, out of the box, which is quicker off the line? Which is more prone to pull wheelies under rolling full throttle? And last which one handles better without rolling?
I’ve been waiting for this, haven’t purchased a traxxas since my stampede 4x4. I am a truggy guy. Have been running my tekno mt410 for the past 3.5 years exclusively. But im ready for another traxxas
I blew my tire and Half of one on my second bash session. I ended up getting the pro line badlands mx38 Belted tires and she’s so much better now! Oh and the stock tires exploded while only running 4s!!! First thing I’d recommend is changing the tires!!
“The pinnacle of all RC cars..” lol most of what you said made sense up till that point… Haha The only thing Traxxas is the pinnacle of is designing their vehicles and products so you’re forced into buying only Traxxas batteries which of course require Traxxas chargers. Then in my experience there are always a few parts on every car I’ve tried out (servo horns, servos, plastic shock caps etc) that are so horribly weak or so poorly designed that sometimes they don’t make it 5 minutes before failing, then when I realized that Traxxas had been offering upgraded and overpriced replacements for those weak parts for as long as they had been selling the vehicles, it was obvious it’s just another way to try and force their customers into spending more money to keep their new vehicle working. I can’t stand companies that operate like that, especially when every other manufacturer realizes that it’s actually beneficial for the health and success of the RC hobby as a whole to design their products to be able to work with everyone else’s stuff.
I think I am mostly excited for the motor mount setup...I have been using my Hoss as a basher and I have to keep my 3mm wrench handy for when the pinion mesh gets to tight...
Hey Mark Santa. I think I know what is causing the lawn dart like landing. When you ran it did you remove the big flat parts in front of the rear shocks? If you didn't I suspect they are acting like on big giant air break which may very well explain the issue you are having with the landings. With all the air pressure pressing against the rear in flight it's probably making the front go light in flight. Then factor in the surface area of the flat parts and you can probably see where I'm coming from. Another way to think of it could be like say a parachute when it is open. All that surface area is helping to slow the person or object down during decent which in turn leads to the dangling of the object in the centre until touchdown.
Sledge looks like a fun addition to the truggy world. One thing i noticed was the motor. Seems upgrading to a larger motor is out. There’s only a couple millimeters of extra space behind the stock motor. That alone is a deal breaker for me
I’m fairly new to rc. Picked up a slash vxl 4x4 late last year. So far upgraded the caster and steering blocks, lower a arms and shocks. Any suggestions on a upgraded motor and esc? Not looking to spend a bunch but just something to give it more power!
I would just like to say that the truck looks absolutely amazing. The suspension looks in desperate need of tuning which is a easy fix but overall I would say a great addition to Traxxas. Now on another note I'm also going to say that Traxxas sued Arrma over a truck that looks and has absolutely nothing in common to the Erevo. In fact the shocks aren't even similar except there placement. All Arrma did was address all the problems that the Erevo had and fixed them, and Traxxas sued. So now Traxxas made a truggy very similar to the Kraton and explicitly compared the to and I think that's why people are kinda upset. I no longer buy anything Taxxas not because they don't make great cars but because it just puts a bad taste that they would try to ruin a great rc company over something so stupid. Great review brother. Love the channel.
Dude... You are the man! This is the first video I have watched of yours and I'm so happy you threw out the idea of just going with the x-maxx. I have had the stampede 4x4 vxl, Hoss, and now I'm going to sell those and try something new. I was going to go with the Sledge but I have always wanted to try the X-Maxx. For you (if you have time) or all you other RC drivers out there, what would you recommend? I loved the Hoss if that helps at all. Should I go with the Sledge or X-Maxx? let me know, thank you!

I’m impressed with how straight the chassis stayed, traxxas knew what’s up!
@@joshdunbar9721 no not just aarma makes trugggs losi AE hot bodies , mugen, lots of companies make truggies not just arrma krapton
Ive been looking seriously at the Kronos XP V2, Kraton or This - and I must say this I believe takes the cake right out the box for ease of use and the ability to just get stuck in
@pumpp if you’ve got the dosh for it. I’d definitely get the sledge bro
Are you going to takenthe factory tires off and put race tires and wheels on it? Will that reduce the rolling mass?
I believe this is a true traxxas gem, i dig the blue body, SBG was right all the blue anodized aluminum would look together, SHARP= time to save them pennies!!
Winning
Damn, i still have a 2 wd Rusty VXL that was over 10 years old when i bought it, new ESC , wheels, bulletproofed the body and RPM all round and i have spanked that thing for the 6 or so years i have had it.
It is the toughest of my RC though my Senton is still quite new.
you in McKinney bro ?
getting a skid plate/bumper might help with lawn dart issue.
Where’s the big sends? The sends that bend the chassis type? Just be nice to see how much it can take
how are the diffs compared to the kraton 6s diffs are they shimmed from factory cause ive blown 4 different diffs in my kraton lol.
The argument isn’t that ARRMA was “the first with the truggy” it’s just the fact of its characteristics resembling the Kraton.
🤣
hey mark, i noticed when running my revo 2.0, there definitely is a lot of servo under steer where the servos turn slow when tsm is on, but when i open my traxxas app and link to my bluetooth module it magically goes away. i don’t know if i changed something in the app to make it happen but maybe you see it as noteworthy
Great review update! Thanks for the info that will definitely help me decide which vehicle I'm going to buy.
Does it have the self righting feature like the Maxx or XMaxx? With the big wing it doesn’t seem like it would.
Agreed about what everyone is saying it’s an Arrma copy. It’s just a truggy! There are loads of truggys out there.
We were doing tower to tower center braces back in 2008 but ours was home made, so arrma by no means invented the tower to tower center brace.
This thing looks awesome. If it makes Arrma up their game on Kraton durability out of the box that's a win for everyone. Competition improves the breed.
kraton durability is awesome. no one knows how the sledge will hold up, its not out to the public yet.
Those clips in your battery box look awesome! I have limited use of my hands an think those would really help me out! Can you tell me where to get them?
Is there metal upgrades for stampede 2wd?just got one brand new as my first rc car
Keep plastic metal makes plastic weaker
From what I understand, from the build schematics, there was supposed to be a couple of washers/ rings where the dog bone goes.
On all my big trucks like this I run the belted Proline Trenchers so it's easier to handle at speed. They are huge but they handle so much better flat out.
is there any tuning options on the sledge? Or is it just pre load on shocks
BTW.
Love your content,
Greetings from Germany!
Awesome vid. I agree with the price vs Xmaxx talk.. as far as the suing traxxas nonsense. It’s a truggy. Truggy have been around long before Arrma. Still some butt hurt from the Nero after all these years?
Please tell us where this BMX track is, I'd love to go Drivv there?!?
I was wondering the same thing. At first I thought it was the new jumps at Erwin but I think it’s a different spot.
@@brentstock87 if you find out please put it in this thread and I'll do the same!
I need a video to replace the center front drive shaft on the sledge
Put it this way. If you're going to seriously bash with a Kraton how much would you need to put into a Kraton? You need a better chassis and better suspension arms. Plus the stock servo in the Kraton isn't the best either, the shock towers are also weak. So with those upgrades you're at or past the price of a Sledge.
and thats the short list on a kraton...for me anyway.
Also the kraton 6s diffs suck ass from factory.
@@TheHundrethmonkey lol just way till you get this. I guarantee you will also have a list of things you will want to replace with this.
Exactly, Robert. That's what many Arrma nutballs conveniently leave out when they make dumb comments. Arrmas are cheap or cheaper for a reason.
@@truerc compared to the almost all plastic traxxas?? Hell even the xmaxx had a plastic servo😭😭😭😭😭
I ether want the e revo or this too . Don't know though. .
We're is that location at in Dallas or is it the hills 🤔 your jumping at like to know thanks.
I’ve been waiting for this, haven’t purchased a traxxas since my stampede 4x4. I am a truggy guy. Have been running my tekno mt410 for the past 3.5 years exclusively. But im ready for another traxxas
Is there a video of the kraton exb being bashed?
Arg sorry my phone doesn’t listen sometimes. I was saying that they should sell belted tires and it’s fun to put them back together and see it run .
I blew my tire and Half of one on my second bash session. I ended up getting the pro line badlands mx38 Belted tires and she’s so much better now! Oh and the stock tires exploded while only running 4s!!! First thing I’d recommend is changing the tires!!
Awesome vid man....when u got the track strap that head cam on and race ur son with ur tekno......i really wanna get me a race vehicle and start....
Got mine this week haven’t run it yet can’t wait!!
Doesn't seem to have much kickup in the chassis? I wonder if that's part of the lawn darting?
I think I am mostly excited for the motor mount setup...I have been using my Hoss as a basher and I have to keep my 3mm wrench handy for when the pinion mesh gets to tight...
I think it lawn darts because the motor is in the front
Awesome Mark. Great looking truck, with some great design upgrades. This maybe my first traxxas. Um seriously considering. Thanks for sharing. John
How does this stack up to the maxx 2.0?
Late to the party…. But can we get those body clips you use on the battery tray from anywhere?
Lets be excited for a new release! Good job Traxxas! Such a fun hobby
Great videos - Both of them. My favorite of all the Sledge review videos.
What location has all those jumps laid out?
Sledge looks like a fun addition to the truggy world. One thing i noticed was the motor. Seems upgrading to a larger motor is out. There’s only a couple millimeters of extra space behind the stock motor. That alone is a deal breaker for me
What park is that with all the dirt jumps?
Traxxas didn’t e vent lay down shocks either but that didn’t stop them
I don’t own an Arrma
does it have the self righting feature?
id like that battery bar in my xmaxx and maxx hope they release a kit to upgrade
I’m fairly new to rc. Picked up a slash vxl 4x4 late last year. So far upgraded the caster and steering blocks, lower a arms and shocks. Any suggestions on a upgraded motor and esc? Not looking to spend a bunch but just something to give it more power!
How’s the plastic axles holding up? I have a whole ziplock bag of them. I put an upgraded motor and esc when stock 1 failed. I love it.
Are both Skidplates broken?
Maxx is 10 lbs, sledge is 13 lbs, and xmaxx is 19 lbs. Doesnt matter, you get hit by any car doing 50 miles per hour, something's getting broken.
