This reminds me of the rainy season in 1983. I had to walk from Sukhumvit Soi 39 to 49 at around midnight during a storm like this. No tuk tuks were out during that storm. The water was up to my waist. All I can say is stay up on your immunizations and take a good shower when you get home. Never know what is in that water.
Walking along the "Sukhumvit River". a nice experience-
I don't know how well you know Thailand, but i can assure you that raining season can regularly remain until early November for sure
Pretty cool. Neat to see the streetlight and car light reflections in the Sukhumvit River. Thanks for the vid!
Looks like the rainy season here in Florida. There are times we get rain coming down so hard you can't see across the street
When it rains, it pours! I hope you won't have to endure this again and that the rainy season is really over! Good luck and thanks for the update, rain or shine!
Successive Bangkok mayors can be seen wading through the flood water for photo ops every time Bangkok floods and Bangkok does flood pretty much every year. Every Bangkok mayor campaigning for election promises to do more for the flooding and if you didn't know how bad things used to be, you might be thinking city hall isn't doing a good job but I can tell you in the old days things were much worse than they are now. Floods in Bangkok now rarely last more than half a day and often just a matter of a few hours. You can find old photos of flooding in Bangkok from 100 years ago when people could bring their little boats out and paddle along the streets.
As it shows in the video it drains very fast. With all that amount of concrete there is no draining system that can handle the tropical downpours instantly. Overall I think that it is impressive how well the system works in the good areas of BKK.
yes, thanks, once in a while the canals would overflow and flood the city causing epic floods, wife remember this happing in the 60s. They still have to worry about these things flooding the city.
@@walternyc it's because the very huge pipes that they built a couple of years before you can easily drive the car in side the pipes, but yes it could help you only drain the water faster but we'll have a very big flooding problem again when the sea level goes up, a lot of time that we have long term flooding in Bangkok it's because the sea level too and nowhere for the water to go.
Wow!
This is call Heavy rain 100 years it eas really heavy rain in thailand and i'm sure if it even heavy rain like bangkok in london, new york or cities around the world can't handle with this heavy rain like this
Actually, the drainage system in Bangkok appears to be very good considering how quickly the street "rivers" cleared up once the rain let up. At least on this big road. I'm sure there are smaller areas that are not as good.
The problem is maintenance. I remember the last time on the news they said that practically they have no available parts sometimes for the flood-gates. So when three or four gates fail in the Chao Praya river, sois will get overflown. If you take a closer look, you see many streets where the store owners put sandbags around the entrance in heavy rainings like this
OMG 😱. Thanks for showing us Jeroen 👍🏼😳
Hide in the shopping mall.😅
Unreal. This reminded me of an old school GTM video where Jeroen had to wade into "khlong 8" and help a scooter rider that fell into a flooded street.
No haze, but heavy rains are cooling for BKK and Thanks for the great videos man.👍🙏
I've been in Bangkok for 2 weeks now, really enjoyed it but with the heat, humidity and rain I'll keep it on my visit only list. One blessing with the heavy rain yesterday it kept me from going to have my dinner at the mall, I'm glad I wasn't at the food court during that painful incident. I did have to go out for a short while about 8 and I'm still drying out my shoes. Enjoying the Videos keep them coming.
I was there last October. We didn't have as much rain or flooding in Bangkok. This was the same week you and Chris held the get together. I went to Pattaya for a couple of weeks and arrived just after some pretty bad flooding on Soi Buakhao. A couple from Europe told me the water was up to their knees. We are coming to Thailand the end of this month and can't wait!
I will be there at the end of the month as well. Hopefully the rain would have stopped!
Ha Jeroen, fellow Nederlander in Bangkok.
I was exactly those places yesterday, but left after the first 2 flash rain showers, so didn't see any of the flooding. Thanks for recording and posting, made it easy to share where I am with friends haha.
Also if you're up for a coffee let me know, would love to pick your brain as I just got here and looking to relocate here.
HELLO EVERYONE. Nice video .thank for sharing
Amazing Video. Unbeliveble how strong nature is.
Great video mate. Amazing
Thanks for the update!
I always see the magic 7/11 in your and chris's videos! It is awesome!!
i lived in South Sukhumvit area 25 years ago. It rained and flooded a lot every year. Your VDO totally reminds me bad wet old days in Bangkok. I never miss that days.
Glorious 🎉 My favorite time of the year in Bangkok ❤ I always look forward to it !!
Crazy hard rain…..been kind of lucky so far this year I guess
Thanks for this video! I am actually due to be staying in Sukhumvit later this month. It’s good to see what I could possibly face. We appreciate your effort in recording this and uploading so promptly!
Take care of yourself Sir! 😊
What a great place to be when it rains in Bangkok thanks for posting.
I think the drainage has improved since the 1990’s years when it floods and Sukumvit traffic is snarled. Sukumvit the the bustling city of Thailand is the best place to be when it rains , blessings to all in Thailand
What a great country
😂 omg I’m so glad I didn’t go out at that time.
Wow, that is some rain or shell I say a good down pour for a good few hrs.Jeroen I was only disappointed in you by not having a sun bed and a glass of cocktail next to the road and imagine being at the sea side 555😂😂😂😂.Thank you for your input into this video and being bravely walking and filming while walking blindly in the flooding water. God bless you .( Jason).
wow very interesting experience friend
Thank you sir for rainy weather video shoot.,👍💯
Thank you friend great video for the new episode, a deluge in the capital BKK that announces the end of the rainy season ☂😲.
the heavy rain & flooding reminds me when i stayed at Asoke area during the first week of oct last year. fully drenched !
Good thing you weren't in Siam Paragon yesterday Jeroen. It was a mess.
Thanks for reporting from the "frontline", ha ha. I watched the sky literally turn black with a rolling blanket of darkness today, from the truespace cafe on 4th floor at IconSiam. Never saw as apocalyptic a scene as this... and only a few minutes later, the city disappeared in what looked like the thickest grey fog. Good to see what the results looked like in town.
From Iconsiam the view must have been spectacular.
Wow, crazy! I’ve been in Bangkok 1 week ago, rain was every day but not so heavy 😄
A good video I will be arriving back in Thailand next month
"Super chill, nothing to get hyped about."
I missed this heavy downpour as I left a day or two before--atter having been in the sukhumvit for a month. Thanks for the vlog.
Thanks for this Heavy Rain video from "Sukhumvit River".
I've been going to Bangkok in September/October since 1988 and while this video DID show some SERIOUS flooding, I've seen this effect before in the past--upcountry in my Second Home of Chiang Mai, too! Thanks for this update--and DO be careful where you step! ;-)
You must be blind it happens most years just as the loacls
Blimmey,,,,,cheers as always jereon,,,,,peace and happiness
i look forward to arriving next week...
Thank you for that video. Stay dry 👍🏻
Wow! That is some serious rain! Hope it improves soon, as my wife and I are heading back to join you in November! Different Hotel this time, so you can eat your breakfast in peace! Great work, as always, much appreciated! Really saddened by the news of the shooting in Siam Paragon!
Fantastic i love that rain 🌧 & its happened many times,
I don’t mean this to be an “I’m alright Jack” comment but I’m so glad I postponed my stay in Bangkok from October to November. Great video, well documented and hopefully the rains will taper off for you soon.
Nah it’s cheaper and there is less people at this time. Less tourists!
Omg.. klong sukhumvit
bangkok is magic under the heavy rain
I arrived yesterday and was lucky 🍀 to miss this. Hope to bump into you on this visit…not under heavy rains though😊
NYC is flash flooding due to some heavy rains. Looks like Bangkok is handling it better.
Thank you for your effort, walking through the storm...I love it...hope you did not catch a cold...:))
Been a short rainy season this year but when it rains it really rains.
Jeeeezzz 😳😳😳😳
That is some rain..😮
It was just the same this time last year
THANK YOU SIR SOI NANA VOD
It looks scary but fortunately only fleeting, at least in Sukhumvit. My memory extends back in the ‘70s and ‘80s when flooding was a semi-permanent thing during the wet. Surawongse Road would be sandbagged for weeks on end, and with wooden planks placed as ‘bridges’ into buildings.
Amazing amazing. Nature is cleaning this beautiful country
Wow that is some heavy downpour I would stay where you are as well as ok my hotel is 5mibs away from there but I would be soak thank you for posting
Raining season is just starting
Wow 😮, never seen rain like this in Bangkok, soon it will become better again ✌🏼❤️🇹🇭
Thanks for the great entertainment .and update..yes the area to see like that ....not easy .... So that's why I send you warm and sunny greetings from Samui..I guess Im better waiting until Nov Dez vor visit BKK again lol...keep dry and safe ...🤪
Great job
I got caught driving in that rain at 5pm. It was like Noah's flood!!!
Wow!!!
It reminds me of Panama in the rainy season. I just found your channel today. It's rare to hear commentary out of most of the Asian Walk channels. I'm looking forward to watching more of your content.
I've experienced this once before, also in BKK and I was lucky enough to start enjoying the situation because it's very unusual weather for me. But... it took me some time
Wow, so many ppl are still out!
I was in Bangkok since 4/10 it was raining hard that 2 nights, I stayed in the Chitlom area no flooding at all
ฝนตกหนักนานเป็น ชั่วโมงเลยกรุงเทพ
"Bangkok doesn't flood, they are draining in process" - said some Thai authority.
Great video... next time bring a pontoon... stay safe.
i’ll be visiting bangkok for the first time next month in late nov. hopefully the weather will be better then.
Thanks Jeroen! Always good seeing you.
Is that a new umbrella? What happened to Mirela's? Hers was great as it was transparent, and the sound it made with the rain drops was just sublime!
Elevated skytrains and walkways are so key.
That was super fast rain... lol 😮😊
hope better soon. we re in thonglor this sat😁
The geography of Bangkok is characterized by pan basins, which makes it very easy to flood in heavy rains because it is difficult to drain water. This is what happens regularly in Bangkok during storm seasons.
Sushmita: 2014 we were on holiday in Bangkok and stayed in the LANDMARK plaza hotel on Sukumvit Rd (the longest road in the World) close to all that I've seen in this video - good memories - loved walking around and into the sub-streets 'soi' interacting with the Thai people ❤
Sush: It rains but very calm and humid which is bearable
Sushmita: unlike other countries where there is chaos and mayhem - love Thailand ❤ 🇹🇭
wow!!
You thought the rainy season was over? Rainy season hasn't even reached half way yet.
Is it do with the fact that Bangkok lacks a proper drainage system or the urban legend that Bangkok sits on a swamp and it sinks every year 🤔
Just to much water all at once.
I always love these tropical rain walks and this is a good one, and I appreciate that. The rainy season stops abruptly in November but October is the second rainiest month of the year, September is the rainiest month. An average of 230mm of rain falls in October. I remember that you do a rain walk a while back that was fantastic, still in my favorites somewhere. Thanks again.
I was there in september and there was no heavy rain at all
@@unpalumpa5143 It's just a matter of averages. In January Bangkok averages only 10mm of rain, but that's doesn't mean thats always the case, I've seen downpours even in January where 100mm might fall in a few hours.
Wow
It's OK when it's coming down the water, don't walk in the flooded streets when the rain water as been in the drains, its a toxic mix of death.
As always I will begin visiting Bkk & other Asean capitals starting from November. Not October in Bkk for me.
Bangkok is fun!
ผู้ว่ากรุงเทพฯของผมเก่งครับ.. เก่งเป็นข่าว
I miss Bangkok...
Time to get that kayak you’ve been wanting 😊
When I lived in Manila the same rains there too. Sometimes even more rain. I would see the street in front of my condo building in Makati City turn into a raging river! Seeing people rowing in life rafts! It was insane. Southeast Asia always gets heavy rains. It’s the norm. Really. Every rainy season.
You are such an honest and onarable person I follow you daily looking for daily post❤that's like typhoon OMG yet Thailand is resilient after rains all will be well been there many times 💖 Keep it up bro and greetings from Oman 🇴🇲
I want to take a moment to educate people on the amount of environmental damage caused by fires and floods to our eco systems. Citizens of every country must step up and demand government begin reforestation projects immediately. We can't wait anymore. As you know, trees have a cooling and moisture effect on our planet. Its not a game anymore.
I was working in my condo on Sukhumvit soi 11 today and had no idea the flooding was so bad just outside.
In asia raining time good times for fruits lots of fruits , i love tropical rain
Sukhumvit Beach, a photographer’s playground!! lol
I love to be in Sukumvit area every time I visit Bangkok. But never had I experienced such heavy downpour there. It's like Kualalampur where there is heavy downpour every afternoon.
ยังไม่ถึงขั้นสุดๆหรอกครับ แค่จิ๊บๆเอง กรุงเทพฯมีประการณ์เยอะ เดี๋ยวมันก็ผ่านไป👌✌😀
Amazing to see this, when the rain in Hua Hin has been so...well...beautiful.
We only get light drizzle, a bit like a Diet Pepsi advert lol. A rare storm will last 10 minutes.
Perfect weather in Hua Hin for the last few months. Why is Hua Hin so different to BKK?
Its normal when the season come which is every end of the year. Bangkok, KL Singapore n jakarta are raining cities. Only that how long the floods will take time to drain. Normally Singapore is the fastest one. So, it's the season n enjoy the cold, wet weather.
My old walking grounds. Been going there since 1993, Back in 2005 or so it was bad also, up to my knees around Nana Plaza on the street. Would be nice if they would connect Asoke & Nana Stations with the Sky Walk. Will be there in November, a little drier I hope.
Askywalk under the whole BTS line would be brilliant.
@@globaltravelmate Yes, a dream city.
We stayed at soi3. Thanks to your last video. We wear flops on the 3rd. 😂 we went to maeklong and reach sukhumvit around 8. At lest i’m not ruining my sneakers 😬tq.
you are crazt to be surprised! Bangkok has been flooding for many many years! ans rainy season has no beginning or ending! everything has changed, Nothing is normal or regular.
I just love Bangkok, no matter the weather.
