I'm coming in a little late on the comments as it is now 2019 and just watched this video for the 1st time and have never seen the 40mm. Especially in grey. I have the green 43.5 and the 46mm small seconds in blue. Both post 2017 new gen. What magnificent watches. I'm planning on trading the 46 for a titanium version as it is much lighter. The 46 stainless is a little heavy but still so beautiful. The other one I'm chasing is the 46mm grey chrono titan 2014, which is a weapon to behold. This aquis is so good that I can't even look at a Rolex, breitling or Omega anymore. Thats how impressive their design and innovation is. The older titan are fantastic too. Oris rules. The only other nice watch in a competitive price range is the Christopher Ward trident and new Longines hydro conquest ceramic. But the Oris can't be beaten. I do however prefer the bracelets pre 2017. They were a little larger and had a more 3D effect.

I just bought an Aquis today, thanks to your reviews. I thought about this purchase for months, literally months. Your videos helped me come to a decision for my most expensive purchase to date. I just wanted to thank you for the time you put into watch reviews. I did purchase from an AD, so it was more expensive than Jomashop, but it's a peace of mind situation for me.

Thanks for the review. Love Oris own five of their sport and dress watches. Just got the 40mm Aquis with black dial. Fits perfect on my small 6.5 inch wrist. Very comfortable. Outstanding. Also have the 65 Oris diver which is also great.

Perfect timing! I've been looking for the best Oris Aquis watch for a couple months to buy (reading reviews, watching videos, comparing prices etc) to get and for the past couple of days, I've been wondering if I should try buying from a lesser known company but this video reminded me why I chose to go after Oris Divers in the first place!

I was torn between the 40mm & 43mm, the first ones I looked at where 43mm then was able to get my hands on the 40mm, after careful consideration I went with the 43mm Blk with Orange markers rubber strap. I have a 7.5" wrist, these watches wear a little smaller than the size would infer, I am very pleased with this Oris, and as you have said, the Vanilla is awesome.

Found this on Jomashop for 1100 with a $50 coupon. Arrived one day after purchase. I feel very lucky. The gray in 40, with Tungsten, is not such as an easy Aquis variant to find. I have a feeling the 40 will also hold it's value more than some of its Oris siblings. It stands apart from the others. Feels oddly unique. Wears surprisingly small though, that was a surprise. More like a 39. With my 7 inch wrist I'd say you can pull off 43 easily, but the increase in bracelet/strap size is a deal breaker for me. The Aquis in 40 also seems to be as thin and light as my Squale 20 atmos.

I had my Steinhart Vintage Red for about 3 1/2 months which was my biggest purchase to that date, then I sold my Bulova Accutron 2 for 100 more than I got it for (got it for 100, sold 215). Then with that gain and some saved I Purchased a Squale 20 Atmos Root Beer just about a week and a half ago. With my Steinhart 3 days from selling on eBay, i began looking for my next piece. I looked at GMT's from Steinhart and Squale, some Armida's, and many more, but I have now put the Squale up for sale and have purchased the Oris Aquis in Black and 40mm. Jomashop has a pre-black friday sale right now and it is 41% off! $975, usually 1650.
    Cheers! great videos.

    Hello TGV,
Well, I finally took the plunge and ordered an Oris Aquis Date with the black dial in the 43mm size.
After watching your videos and the high praise you gave it I had to buy one. It should be here tomorrow morning.
I was debating on what size to purchase but being 6' 3" tall and over 200 lbs I felt the 43mm was the better size for me.
I ordered it with the metal bracelet and also purchased the rubber strap so I can wear it either way.
    I can't wait.
    Regards,
    Wayne

I first became aware of the Oris Aquis by watching your videos. I now plan on picking up the 43mm black dial version very soon.

    TGV,
Thanks much for your helpful videos on the Aquis Date. I had pretty much made up my mind on this watch before seeing your videos and you simply confirmed my opinions. Unfortunately, the watch is in fact discontinued and there wasn't a single Oris dealer in the Chicago area that had the 40 mm version. I lucked out and found one on Jomashop in GREY (yes!) for $1,175! I snatched it up immediately. The model I purchased has the bracelet which is also what I wanted. It arrives tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited! Thanks again for your insight and reviews.

I bought 2 second hand 43mm they're stunning so well made and for the money fantastic. On rubber (which does smell awesome!) It's fantastic and a lot more comfortable than the steel. It's a big weight difference. Fantastic watches and for the money arguably the best divers around...

Well put TGV, it was your reviews that convinced me to pickup my Blue Aquis on bracelet. Absolutely love it, well worth the money and I'd say the build quality/fit & finish are on par with my Longines and Rado, which the Swatch Group categorize as High Range, right between Luxury Range (Omega, Blancpain, etc.) and Mid Range (Hamilton, Tissot, Certina, Mido). Honestly, I really see the Aquis as an affordable alternative to the Planet Ocean, the same way many see the HydroConquest as an affordable alternative to the Submariner.

The unique lugs on Oris watches means the bracelets integrate into the case like no other out there and look seamless. I actually welcome that kind of design more. Might mean more companies have to step up their game with OEM straps like Oris has done with their rubber. Oris sure shows 'em 'cause I hear their rubber is even more comfortable than an ISOfrane!

I am new subscriber and have decided to start collecting watches after watching about 20 of your videos. First purchase was for more of a beater (C. Ward C60 Trident 300, red bezel on black rubber touch leather with red stitching - still in transit to the US). Have picked put this one for my bday next month (42mm grey is on Joma for $875). Thanks for turning me (and, BTW, my 16 year old son) on to watches and to aspire to collect. Also, have already bought in advance three bands - a Colareb, a Hadley, and the awesome rubber strap from that other Italian maker)!

100% agree with you I love this watch. I just wish they would come out with a blue in 40mm size. Where did you hear that the 40mm Aquis was discontinued? I emailed Oris a couple months back about a blue 40mm Aquis and they did not mention anything about them being discontinued.

Can't believe you sold this one TGV! I'm saving for this watch! Jomashop still sell the silver dial in 40mm. I'm on the fence on whether to go for the silver dial 40mm with black rubber or the blue sunburst dial in 43mm with bracelet. The blue is just amazing and I was more impressed with the Oris than the Omega Seamater 300M!
Now that you have sold a few pieces TGV, this should be a re-buy! Haha!

ALL from accidentally stumbling across your review vids about it while researching on another watch.

Ahh! You are making this so hard for me because your videos make the watches look so great. I've watch all your reviews on the different aquis and just cannot decide, especially considering this will be my first nice watch. I really feel like i need to go with the 40mm with my sub 7 wrists. So that leaves black and this beautiful gray. But i also cannot neglect my feeling towards the all black or silver with the black dial Artix gt (both non and chrono verisons) even though the cases are a few mm larger. So many watches, so many choices... Regardless thank you for make your awesome reviews and follows, I appreciate them very much.
Upon writing this it appears I cannot find the 40mm grey aquis.

      ron p Hi Ron,
I totally understand. Its difficult to decide sometimes.
All I can really advise is to go with your gut feeling and heart. Get the one you want the most or pleases you more. I guess this is why we end up collecting these things!
Regarding the 40mm grey, they stopped making them I believe so there is not that many left.
Good luck mate and please let me know how you get on.

Hi Tvg, your first review of the aquis with the blue dial caught my eye and I purchased it. I have to say I love this watch for the same reasons that you state. I originally saw this watch at a tourneu watch store and liked it then, but forgot about until I saw your vid. Is the 40mm adjustable like the 43mm or did you have to cut the strap? That was a big selling point for me. Love that feature of the watch. Keep up the great videos!

Hi. I have my eye on a Blue Aquis. My wrist is 7.15" so I think I can handle it. I need to try it on at a AD first which means going to a different city. Might as well grab a meal while out, make a day of it...
So it seems that the Aquis and Submariner (grail of mine, one day!) fill all your needs. You said you've sold Breitlings, Omegas, Rolexes. How does the Aquis compare to those brands? I know it loses to Rolex, what about the other two? I've read on the Oris forum that it's similar if not the same quality as a Planet Ocean. Any thoughts on a comparison?
I feel like buying an Aquis and using that as a main day-to-day watch (only costing little over $1000 there's less fear with it on) and saving up for a SubC Non-Date, similar to what you've done. It's like every time I look at Omega pictures online, as great as they are, I'd rather save up just a bit more and go Rolex due to it's history and prestige. I guess you agree with that?

    • @theurbangentry
      @theurbangentry  9 лет назад +1

Devarika Woulf I would say Oris is comparable to Omega in terms of quality. I would even go as far as saying I prefer the Quality of an Oris over Omega but that is just my opinion.
Obviously Oris has not got the prestige of Omega as a brand but its still very strong.
As for your buying goals, that sounds like a really good plan. A rollie Sub for best and an Aquis for everyday you really can't go wrong! Thats basically my set up.
      Another great comment, cheers!
      Best regards,
      TGV

Hi TGV. Thanks for alll your videos. i really appreciate your channel. Great stuff!
Recently im getting more and more interested in divers. And since i own a oris big crown i kind of love the brand.
Similar to you i have rather thing wrists. So i would love the 40mm model. But because oris does not manufacure it anymore there no possibility. Do you think a 36mm whatch is to small for men?
Because i would have to decide to buy the 43mm version or a black 36mm version. Ecept i would find a 40mm model at a trustfull store.

Design is somehow timeless and contemporary at the same time. It's its own diver, without plagiarizing the sub (or "being a homage piece", whatever).

Looks way better on the rubber strap you have it on than the metal bracelet, imo.

Thanks for the review. I'm considering Oris Aquis 40mm as a first nice watch for myself. I live in Australia though. Do you know what would be the best way to get this watch? I can see this is sold from online shops Jomashop and Authentic Watches. Are they all reliable shops? Or do you have any other suggestions?

Jinhwang Kim Jomashop are fine. I have ordered from them and had no problems
I am not sure I would buy from them a super high end piece but an Aquis, no problem.
Hope that helps, sorry for the late reply.
      Best regards,

Four years later, will ORIS re-release this?

    • @valjean3141
      @valjean3141 6 лет назад

They did. At least, if you mean the Aquis in a smaller size -- they released a 39 mm Aquis at Baselworld in 2018, similar in size to the one in this video. By all accounts, it seems to be selling well.

Not sure you were entirely truthful about keeping it as long as you live and breath... shame because it's a lovely piece.

saying the crown is sooo easy to use is kinda funny because how often are you even using the crown. I mean ya it has to be easy to grab but you talk about it like you are having the best sex ever.
