HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2024
- In this video, we look at eight different field watches, with offerings from Casio, Bertucci, Orient, Seiko, Marathon and a new entry from microbrand HEMEL. All fit the quinessential field watch requirements, durable, rugged, easy to read, water resistant, comfortable, etc.

This was a great showing of some really nice watches. Orient never cease to amaze. Seiko is always in the mix. That Hemel really deserves a second look. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you!
Harga nya dong..? Klo di Jakarta dimana toko nya?
I took a Seiko Kinetic metal bracelet (casual I would say) to Iraq. I was in the field (combat arms) most of the time, with really high temperatures (inside a tank prob 120 degrees), a lot of dirt around, took showers with it, and smashed it a lot. The watch was still working a year later after I came back. I would recommend Seiko brand at any time, and be aware that this model watch was not a field watch. The only reason I don't use it anymore is because I stopped wearing it one day, and it seems the kinetic is not charging anymore. Nine years now and I still have it, I will prob fix it at some point, if possible.
Wow, great story. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your service!
I realize this is probably 7 years too late but to anyone with one of those Seiko kinetic watches; if the weight no longer seems to be winding the watch, it’s usually just that center screw that needs tightening.
Really nice comparison. So rare to get some focus on very inexpensive watches that really deliver. That Seiko 5 is just an unbelievable value and its' sales numbers reflect it.
These Bertuccies are killing it I must admit... Sapphire crystal, minimalistic great design, top-rated quartz movement, awesome loomjob...
The Seiko 5 is my favorite. I really like the case of this specific model shown in the video. Really didn't care for the Orion. Berucci was ok. I'm not ashamed to admit I like the dirt cheep $55 Timex camper watches. Good video.
I like my watches simple and uncomplicated. I have a few of the Bertuccis. My experiences with both the watches and the company have been stellar. My only real complaint is that the rugged nylon bands aren't very comfortable. So I contacted Bertucci and they were nice enough to give me a discount on some alternatives. Their canvas band might be the most comfortable watch band I've ever worn.
Timex Expedition Scout watch for me too. Highly legible, keeps time very accurately over a good period of time, comfortable.
That one has been mentioned a few times. Thank you!
And very affordable too😊
Yes. Materials aside, if a person looks up the prices on these watches, we're seeing why Timex was able to find a niche with the Expedition line.
Been wanting to pull the trigger on that watch for eeons but reviews through the yrs w/ the stem/crown pulling out for the scout and the expedition made me feel otherwise. Just want a good watch that's rugged and can stand the test of time.
Love both of my Time Expedition watches. Durable, accurate and affordable. Plus you have to love indiglo.
I've had the same Casio Tough Solar for almost two years now.
The only bad thing about it is that white letters on the front will wear off very quickly. Other than that, it works flawlessly!
I have one as well, and I sanded those white letters off immediately.
Like the looks of the blasted Hemel version best. My cup of tea.
Bought the Marathon General Purpose Mechanical from you. I must say, I love that watch so I bought a second one....It's not for everyone but my take on it, Simple and tough, a watch for a man who has a sense of himself.......Glad it has sapphire crystal.
Good choice and good reasoning!
Just ordered my SNK809 from you today. Great service and quality products. Thanks again Marc!
Thank you.
I bought two of the Bertucci’s directly from bertucci I love them they’re great you can’t go wrong for the money
I served 8 years in the Navy in the 90s. Resin bands crack as they age a few years. I know the Times spring pins that hold the strap to the watch more easily pops off. For me that was an advantage while working in the engine room. When, not if, the band gets caught on the machinery I want the pin to pop off instead of ripping the band and my wrist. I once lost my Times Atlantis 100 in the bulge for several days. When I found it the watch was still working. The Indiglo was the greatest innovation for battery powered watches. Not only did it help me to tell time in the dark, it also functioned as a low power flashlight in absolute darkness. All battery powered watches should have Indiglo.
now i'm not one to post comments,
but i've never seen a "Hemel" and i'm VERY picky and particular about my watches...either my Rolex Hulk, or my Seiko 5.
but i'm definitely about to get into one of these Hemels. Very simple and sleek design. i don't know what about it is so attractive, but i love it.
I do like that Hemel. I have that Casio tough solar. I got it at the same time as a G Shock square. It so comfortable it gets a lot of wrist time.
The Hemel micro brand looks good. Nice to see micro brands out there making innovative pieces. I'm a Seiko SNK owner (thx Marc) and it was my first self winding. Think it is kinetic and not pure automatic? First watch after relying on tech for time for years and wasn't sure if wearing a watch was for me anymore...but now am up to 3 Orients (thx again) all automatics. This little SNK is a great starter watch. Changed the band to black and brushed steel NATO.
Yes, the SNK is an auto; no kinetic. It uses the 7S26 which was the backbone of the Seiko lineup for over a decade.
Wow, these Hemel even today really does stand out.
wow. loving that Hemel watch . the luminescence with the 24 hour face is phenomenal!
Yes!
Great video. I'm a proud wearer of the marathon displayed in the video. It has been a wonderful piece that has been through quite a bit of extreme usage. I will add it's light and comfortable to wear all day long for days on end. The size of the watch is what attracted me to it, being I'm a medium build at 175 lbs. Finding a simple tritium mechanical watch that didn't feel like there was a weight on my wrist was difficult. Again grateful for the video, maybe the next one the pieces could be weighed on camera.
I have the Casio Tough Solar. Great cheap watch and amazingly accurate!
Indeed.
Iv seen one in person and was impressed
Thank you! Great video. I always understood the value that Orient provided but never really found a design I liked until now! That Defender is an eye catcher!
Mark is a great guy. Customer service at Long Island Watch is fantastic.
I’m more of a luminox navy seal type of guy I had one for 16 years I’m about to buy another I liked the screw down crown & screw down back . It comfortable on my wrist , I don’t have to worry about water getting into the movement , I can see the dial & hands in the dark & that’s a big must for me
The Alba solar deserves a mention. A subsidiary of Seiko so it’s a reliable brand with a nice field look.
thanks for the line up and the details - this was a good round up of all the filed watches. much impressed by the honest push and not so aggressive over the top selling - i learnt a few things. keep up the great work
Here's kind of a general question to the watch fans out there: Are we a little spoiled by Casio and, to a lesser extent, Timex, when it comes to this type of watch?
More specifically, I clicked on the link to the tiny Marathon offering. It's around $300. I'm sure the materials are superior for what they are, and that the watch does an outstanding job, especially if compared to a rodeo buckle-sized, $15 Armitron sports watch you buy off the rack at Walmart.
But how many of you look at that watch and think that if Casio wanted to, it could probably put out a watch with a very similar aesthetic that's at least 80 percent as good as what you need for your purposes, for about $24? Timex would likely find a way to make it cost $40 because, they're Timex.
Excellent overview. Good detail. Good selections. Great presentation.
*I have that Casio AQS-10W in both black and orange. Very reliable timepieces. I did not know that one would consider this a Field Watch. Good to know.*
I have that Marathon GPM on my wrist right now and I LOVE it. Been wearing it more than anything, especially at night. Every night, I wear this or my Traser. Once I got this thing, I can't imagine how I lived without a tritium watch for so long. It's perfect. I believe Marc misquoted the size. I believe it's about 33-34 millimeters in diameter. Small on my near 8" wrist, and the band is on the last hole, but it still fits and looks good. I can't say enough good about this watch. If you want a simple, durable watch and don't care if people don't think your watch is fancy, this is the one.
Wich Traser do you own? I had a Officer Pro, but the 42 mm wears too large, even on my 7,75" wrist. I ordered the Marathon GPM too and i am really looking forward to it. I also like the Marathon GSAR (MSAR) at 36 mm.
@@oasiasoasiaso It is the Traser Survivor. I'm quite fond of it. Only wish it was an automatic instead of a quartz, but it's a good watch.
For a "military" field watch, I'd think hacking is a requirement, since you're trying to coordinate your platoon running across the field with the guys shooting the artillery etc. But these days I doubt any military would issue a mechanical watch and the quartz pretty much all have hacking.
I don’t know what it is about the last watch, but it is beautiful! Might be the best looking watch I’ve seen in a long time. And I’m a huge G-Shock fan which basically that tough solar looks like it is.
I have the tough solar but in white :) perfect for my every day school watch. Matches my medicine uniform :)
Nice and clean!
Fifteen years back Howard Marx in CA sold a simple, light field watch called the MP. Had an ETA 2824 movement, 38mm or so in size, broad arrow on the face as well as the "T" for the tritium hands, sapphire crystal. It was rumored to be a British iMilitary issue watch. Mine has consistently kept better time than ANY of my other autos. IMHO it was one of the best field watches ever sold.
mine is the seiko skx013 and the tuna seiko sbbn031. love em
I have a Stocker and Yale Sandy 590 from the late 80s early 90s, the orange 12 marker is pretty much gone but the rest and hands are still very visible at 03:00. It's also so light that I have to keep checking it is still on my wrist 🤣
Love the shiny Hemel. Reminds me of the Hamilton Khaki field watch (H10 engine 80 hour power reserve).
Hemel with a Miyota engine is excellent for me.
What i would love to see is Timex military look watch with a Miyota movement, not quartz. SS OR SS/DLC coating. That! Would be awesome.
What if....
Timex began using basic ETA 2824-2....hmmmmm. for its divers and military look pieces....
They might become collectables then... hmmm...
That Hemel is very nice. Subscribed.
def a neat looking watch
@@WatchUnwind but the lume on blasted ones hands is barely visible. On start of video and later. The polished one looks excelent in dark.
@@dubravkohubak5387 That is an interesting observation, the thing with lume is sometimes on these videos it doesnt pick it up the best. From my own experience my camera hasnt been doing the best job of picking up lume how it looks in real life. But if one looks brighter than the other on video it probably is.
I subscribed to your channel because of the urban gentry. I really like the Seiko 5 snk809, and the marathon.
great video Mark
Thanks for "watch"-ing!
Nice array of outdoor watch models. I hope I can get one of those soon. At the moment, being an outdoors person, I use an inexpensive Timex Expedition Trailmate, about USD80 only. It has motion sensor distance measurer, steps counter, long battery life, bright indiglo, crystal glass and WR 100M.
Thank you for that excellent video.
Greetings from northern Sweden and a fellow watch enthusiast, also new subscriber.
I found your channel from The Urban Gentry and I have heard only praise from other channels as well.
The Hemel is very nice! Missing the Citizen Eco Drive field watch in this list..
Just FYI.. 'Hemel' means 'Heaven' in Dutch.. ;)
Great video! Thanks so much! Love that Hemel with the bead blasted finish. Think I just might pull the trigger on that one, though it will compete for wrist time with my SNK809! Cheers, Marc!
Thanks for sharing.
" dont want to stop battle & not know what time it is " ... lol very inspirational 😎✅👏🤣
The CASIO forester is more of a field watch .It is really inexpensive though. I bought a resin case bertucci from your store I like it very much.
I would have added the Marathon Navigator, larger 43mm case with bidirectional bezel, gold plated ETA quartz movement, plus made in Switzerland ..... but it's your channel ....oh and did I mention its a Canadian company. I love mine if you can't tell. Ultimate beater/daily watch for a great price. Subscribed ! looking forward to more reviews.
Thank you! Always appreciate feedback and ideas. Not to mention, the ownership of Marathon is quite nice, makes it easy to do business.
I am a big fan of the field watches. Great for a quick glance down to see the time and seems to fit correct on the watch. Simple and clean except that Orient. Looks like a Chronograph
I still wear my 2005 timex white face expedition, with Indiglo, on a khaki NATO. Great watch! Cost me £29.99.
Nicely done, but Hamilton is a glaring missing example
The title of this video is: "Affordable Field Watches". Hamilton's are nice yes. "Affordable" not so much.
Love the looks of the Casio. Is there a replacement for the resin band? Hate resin bands cannot wear them
I just bought the Hemel from your store. It is sharp, and has a sapphire crystal.
i really like the Marathon because of the tritium and also the HEMEL because of the bezel thank you Marc
Well done, crystal clear.
Thank you for posting this review of some great looking watches. Gives me something to do a bit of research on. I already own a Seiko and an Orient so going to take a look at some of the others. Thanks again. MJ
Seiko 5 is also an automatic watch... Bertucci looks great!
I wear my watches behind the wrist bone. If I wear my watch up at the break of the wrist as ur doing with these watches you've shown it's uncomfortable.
So you where a watch properly
Great vid Marc thanks, I own the Casio, its rugged, light and inexpensive, as well as accurate. I like the range of watches you carry well done.
The Bertucci is a great watch. I have one for work. The only downsides are, mine doesn't have a date, and the case is somewhat uncomfortable on the wrist because the plastic hangs off of the strap.
That Hemel case is amazing...
Most surprised no Locrus field watch, $40 dollars, Titanium case, 100 meters.
I have the Casio here, it's a great watch for the money.
Thanks, but are you sure Marathon automatic is affordable?
Affordable is a highly contested word, but most folks in the community agree that under $1000 is affordable. Affordable means different things to different people. Price aside, though, $900 for a Swiss Made auto with this pedigree is unheard of in any brand that advertises in the mainstream.
I bought a Marathon. I'd read some feedback that it was overpriced, but I dismissed it.
When it came I was so underwhelmed that I sent it back for refund. Thankfully they did refund me. I have to second that for what it is it's hugely overpriced, just because they can put a "Government" on it.
the second hemel watch looked as if it had absolutely no lume on the hands which was a disappointment as i thought it was the nicest piece up until then :-( bummer
Title said 'affordable' but only really showed the price on 2 of the pieces... Great comparison video though, love the concept. Would love to see more (dress, diver, chrono etc) thanks
Thank you. I do forget to say some things during filming; too excited about all the good stuff. That's why there are product links you can click on. Will try to do more like it!
Very nice selection, and excellent reviews.
The Hemel models look very nice, something new and interesting, gonna check them out. The other watches we know well and are also great field watches.
love the marathon one
Another field watch from Casio in my opinion: Casio HDA-600 and G Shock 5600 series.
MUHAMMAD WITJAKSONO great point on the Casio gshock 5600 I have one and agree with you also it has a slimmer thickness than the Casio shown on this video
Theyre good if you like a house brick on your arm
Thank you for this. However, do consider the Ricardo Swiss Alpine Military watch. Oddly, it's never considered in videos on field watches. (Ricardo have made some expensive vintage watches too). This Ricardo should be a Classic with its superb 12/24 hour luminous cream face and Quartz (Japanese) movement. I prefer it to my Timex Expedition Camper. And, surprisingly, it costs less than £30. Excellent value for a wonderful watch.
The one from Seiko is basically the benchmark .
I never received a standard issue watch. I went through basic 9 years ago and at that time all the young soldiers were buying timex watches from the PX. I broke one watch per week in basic lol. Having an issued watched would’ve helped me out a lot. I can’t speak for other people, but in my unit, we all use Casio G-Shocks. I’ve own three of them for about 8 years and I’ve never broke Any of them. I’ve put them through hell and they all look brand new.
Kano Mora that’s odd I’ve always had timex and they never broke, I actually still have one
energeez I dragged it through the dirt, mud, water, and sand. They never managed to last more than a week. I was replacing it every Sunday after church. A digital watch was essential at that time because I needed to be up before the drill sgt came in there screaming flipping beds lol.
Kano Mora I used a alarm clock, I didn’t care who it bothered lol. If it bothered you, you werent that tired.
i have 2 casio tough solars, great watches, i just wish the case was made out of metal, the watch looks great and is very rugged however even though it feels rugged the plastic feels cheap. a similar watch with better quality materials and a double the price would be worth it.
that is a handsome Orient. I also have a Seiko 5, very good watches
Awesome video! You're starting to make some awesome content. Keep up the good work!
thank you.
***** If you dont like it, then don't watch it. Simple :)
There are channels like Archie Luxury for guys like you. Have fun!
Thank you for that. My first hater. That means I'm getting somewhere.
The 2-piece strap Hemel is a particularly nice addition 👍
Great video. I would also add very affordable and great looking MRW-200H
Amazing after editing it so long, I actually messed up the intro! Sorry folks!
Could have fooled us, looks/sounds good! Keep up the awesome content Mark!
Did a fine job. I didn't notice anything. Don't worry bout the Trolls as they will always find something. Great job.
thanks!
So the Seiko SNK805 is very popular, but what about the Seiko SNZG09K1? It looks like a more capable field watch with better water resistance, better lume and 24 hour markings. It also might have a better movement which is the 7S36 compared to the 7S26.
Long Island Watch u
Nice video, really liked it man
Marc, thank you for a good video. I had never heard of Hemel. I really like how the lume was executed. I will add it to my list. I have an SNK. We bought one for our son (the red face) and I loved it so much I picked a blue face for myself. Again great video.
Yes, they did a great job. Very fine detail!
Nice Video! I gotta say My Favorite of the Group was the "vemel" brand? I Really Liked the looks of both!.
Thanks For Making, Great Job!.
Thanks for "watch"ing !
Nice showcase. I own a Smith and Wesson tritium watch that appears to be a Luminox case with a Japan movement. Haven't been able to verify that. I bought it about 2010 have it professionally maintained and it's still going strong...including the tritium dial. Would love to learn more about it.
Nice looking Casio and half the price of the similar looking G shocks I have.
Seiko 809 my favorite watch
Riki Watanabe! They need to bring those back to Alba.
Oh, I have that Marathon in my watch case! It doesn't get the wrist time it should, but I will break it out again.
I love perpetual movement, self winding watches. I never liked quartz movement. I have the Seiko Men's 5 Sports SNZG09K1 ... Great watch.
def a good choice their with the Seiko 5
Very nice watch selection, thanks a mil!
Field watches are some of my favorite. The Seiko SNZG would have fit right in the group. Good vid. Thanks Mark.
Yes, for sure! It was in my hand, then I gave it up for the SNK.
surprised No Timex Expedition or the Weekender Great styles and are very durable , nice build quality. Prices are good.. range from $50 - $100 really solid watches
Don't own it, don't sell it.
wow you are super cool
lol
Weekender would alert people a mile away with the decibels that quartz kicks out. Way too loud.
Weekender ? i dont think that watch could withstand the conditions that military goes through Expedition?,well maybe
I love my Casio Pro Trek PRG-600
Hey, what do you think about that seiko vs a matching timex expedition? i do like luminiscent but light for me is also important..but the most is offcourse durability (those timex have some fame about loosing the crown). battery and waterrproof is also something it shouldn lack
I think the Timex is better suited for the true outdoorsman; nothing beats Indiglo (don't shoot me folks!)
I like that version of the orient defender but I can't find it in 2024
MWC watches for G10 NATO spec....auto or Swiss Ronda quartz.
Very good and affordable.
Thanks a lot Mark. I'll check out your website for one of these.
Those hemels look nice might have to check them out
They all glow down here, and you’ll glow too!!!
Have a Casio mrw 200h cheap af. tough af
Beautiful watches
It would help in the future, if you were to "qualify" the term "affordable". The the term means something different to people like me. Unfortunately, I have to live off Social Security and a crappy job at Home Cheapo. Affordable seems to be relative.
Hi I’m a subscriber and just had some questions about field watches. I have just purchased a timex weekender with the indiglo I couldn’t decide between the weekender and the expedition. But I was looking for a field watch wich the weekender kinda fits the role but the weekender is very close as far as being a field watch, except the leather strap. Should I put it o a NATO strap to make it more of a field watch or should I just buy the expedition also? I did notice that a cpl if your choices were on different straps other than NATO straps.and at least one watch was highly polished like my weekender.is the weekender a good field watch or should I also purchase the expedition? Now that I’ve confused everyone thank you for any input! Love your channel!
