Restoration Fully RUSTED AXE Head

- Hi! Today there is a unique restoration. My subscriber sent an old very rusted axe head from Australia. He discovered it while working at his house. The head of the axe is covered with a thick layer of earth, rust. Well, I'm starting to restore the tool!
The first thing I did - use a knife to remove the surface earth and rust from the axe. Then, for two days, axe placed in a rust remover liquid.
Therefore, the axe was transferred to water with soda to neutralize the acid. The head of the axe turned out to be very corroded, but the cutting edge was preserved. By the way, who knows what kind of model the American axe is, please leave a comment.
Next, I cleaned the surface of axe again with with sandblaster, treated it with an iron brush and sharpened it again. I cleaned the eye of the axe with sandpaper. I did not process the surface - I do not need gloss.
Next, the handle of the axe. I chose an old dry tree for this. I cut out the right shape for the handle. I chose a wooden wedge for the axe, and used epoxy resin for additional fixation and protection from moisture.
A day later, I gave the handle the right shape, soaked it with wax. I also made leather sheath from genuine leather. And as usual, I conducted a very interesting and delicious test for you. Please be sure to share this video.
As for the recipe of the dish:
I used pork 1kg. Salt and pepper. Dry red Kakhetian wine and onions. The shish kebab should not be fried until fully cooked and will stop at 80%. Remove from the skewer, put this undercooked meat, onion and 350 ml of dry wine in a saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 15-17 minutes. Then serve on the table. Enjoy your meal!

Looks like a very common small axe head for kindling and clearing brush, certainly no shortage of them scattered around old Australian properties.

Yep, general purpose carpentry/fence building/bushcrafting/camping/brush clearing hatchet is what we would call it here in the States.
They are everywhere here too because they’re so generally useful. You wouldn’t want to fell a serious tree with one but you could if you had to.

Beautifully done and the meal looks delicious. My understanding is that the axe, or hatchet rather, is one used primarily for camping but can be utilized for attaching asphalt (or fiberglass tar) roof shingles. Hope your sanding device recovers from this adventure.

Hello Bryan! Glad to hear you. Yes I like this axe to, its very comfortable to transfer in back, nice weight and good still. For garnish in that case we never you something special, may be greenery, vegetables.
Wow nice work. I think that might be what is called a Rig Ax or Riggers Ax. Used by roofers when chopping off the corner of a ceiling joist. The notch is for pulling nails which of course you know.

А мне сегодня пришёл бронзовый прибор - верх и низ на ножны для каролинга. Пять часов подгонял отливки шероховатые внутри новой бормашиной. И всё равно, в глубине заготовок, по удалению заусениц, пришлось работать самой отливкой вертя её на напильнике, закреплённом в тисках.
Зато теперь у меня есть шикарный, хоть и не заточенный меч!

Топор в хозяйстве никогда лишним не будет! Очень повеселил детский горшок из советского прошлого. Наверно у каждого в СССР такой был.
Да он вечный, у меня как раз этот топорик наконец-то заставил на скоряк прицепить топорища на рабочие топоры. А то пару месяцев назад, за городом работал. У обоих сломалось топорище, так еще и обух треснул

That axe seems to be of a kind not exclusive to the Americas, but quite common in many other places. It looks to me like a carpenter's axe: hammer back to drive nails in, notch in the bottom to get them out, and a thin blade for precision hewing of wood (like for beam's joinery), instead of a thick blade to fell trees or split logs.

По виду этот топор напоминает мичиганский валочный топор. Удачи!
Это не плотницкий топор. Как правило у плотницкого плоская(прямая) режущая кромка. Если режущая кромка выпуклая - ей удобно рубить ветки, либо валить деревья. Демпферная выборка на лезвии тоже говорит что это топорик лесоруба - такие выборки делают чтобы не лопались лезвие(на мачете, на кукри) - т.е. лезвие рассчитано на конские нагрузки при ударе.... Ручка тогда раза в 2 длиннее нужна
