    In May 2015 I flew commercially to Anchorage for the Alaska Airmen's trade show. The weather was absolutely perfect, so some friends and I took some big-engined Cessna 170s and Aviat Huskies out to the Wrangell-St Elias region for a 3 day camping trip and some exploring.
    Edit: I've been corrected that the cabins inside the Wrangell-St.Elias National Park are managed by the Park Service, not the State of Alaska.

    Awesome video! I grew up riding snowmachines in those mountains and have been to each of the places you mentioned, except Peavine. One year we even rode up the Hannagita and stayed in an old mining bunkhouse in -25* weather. I miss those places terribly and can't wait to go back. It's great to see the adventures other people have there too.

    I thought the same about the sound of the sky wagon. My friend down in Miami took me for a ride, but once I saw/heard that machine turning at 2700 rpm from the outside as he took back off, it literally gave me goose bumps. Very distinct sound and you would almost expect to see a war bird on the runway. There are muscle cars and that was a muscle airplane. Awesome video!

    I have watched so many Aviation / Flying videos over time that I have lost count! Your video, is one that should be used as a benchmark by all other "video producers" out there.
    Fantastic video, great low-key music, not loud obnoxious rap or meth-rock which people use as background music to denote "action".
    Finally, the 170 is just a beautiful aircraft, especially when at work, or just having fun. The one you used looks extremely sharp.
    Congratulations!!

    I understand how practical it is to have planes with big tires, struts and high wings. They sure are ugly though, I'd bet they handle like a '49 Hudson. Same era. The Beavers are nice looking.
    A Widgen sure looks nice but don't know enough to say whether they would be a good Alaska plane. Parts, money . . . the one thing that these planes in the video all have in common is how relatively inexpensive inexpensive they are to operate and easy to find parts for.
    Nice looking at the old planes and beautiful scenery.

      Pretty hard to beat a 300 hp Skywagon out of the two for packing a load, but for a couple people and some gear the 170 is lighter and way less money to operate. I have a straight tail 172 taildragger, highly modded with a 220 hp Franklin, and I would not trade it.. Same as a c170C, but with more rudder authority. Perfect, for ME.

      +ThatCessnaKid The big semi-Fowler flaps on the B really are nice for making lift at slower speeds. You can get off a lot slower by popping the flaps, especially if you have the extra horsepower. The smaller flaps of the A are okay.

    Are you guys x military pilots or why for the dome pieces? Please pardon my lack of info on this but I have not observed this around light GA, save for a few aerobatic pilots and silly RV8 owners (who can blame them).
    Also kudos on the footage, I have seen a few of your videos and you produce very good videos. This is a great complement in a wasteland of over-hyped monster inspired videos comprised of nothing truly adventurous or interesting.

    • @BackcountryPilot
      @BackcountryPilot  8 лет назад

      +A1soldiersaint None of us are military. I do have a few friends though who've never been the same since flipping their aircraft and banging their heads on the interior structure. Bush and backcountry flying probably carry a higher risk of aircraft upset on the ground, and I'd rather be able to remain conscious in order to egress as quickly as possible, in addition to my desire to avoid concussion or traumatic brain injury.
