@@carolcrooks7018 This is all rooted in Korean beauty standards. If you google it you will see that Nam doesn't fit the standard and the use of the word "ugly" isn't like how the west uses it. It just mean that he doesn't fit the exacting standards of what is beautiful. Armies love Nam and think he is so handsome with those dimples (dimples also don't fit the beauty standard). He does love his height because that does fit the standard. I used to be very upset about people's use of the word "ugly", it helped when I learned more about the strict standard (though I don't think any of it makes sense being from the west). Hope that helps

I absolutely love Dark&Wild. It perfectly captures the turmoil of being a teenager in love, from the boy's perspective. It reminds me of being that age, dating boys who were passionate, romantic, but also confused. They were still trying to figure out why the girl they used to tease suddenly made their hearts flutter. About the military exemption controversy... I think it needs some clarification. The members of BTS never wanted to be exempted, and their company did NOT sign the petition for a special exemption. But the other companies used them as a reason to get exemptions for THEIR artists.
It got weirder after that. Government officials also decided to fight FOR exemptions for BTS, even though they NEVER asked for that. But despite this, a new law was passed granting K-pop stars who fit certain criteria to delay enlistment an extra two years. The criteria were tailor-made so that almost nobody except BTS qualified. It was nicknamed "The BTS Law". Remember, they NEVER asked for this.
And then, it got even weirder. Officials of the Ministry of Culture wanted to go even further, and they tried to get BTS exempted from active duty service altogether. A lot of BTS fans were really excited about this, even though the members themselves WANTED to serve. A lot of us did not realize something very important. Exemption from active duty is NOT an exemption from the military... It's an even longer commitment.
Active duty service is 18 months. "Exemption" means a TRANSFER to a special program. They would still have to go to basic training. And after that, they would basically be working for the Ministry of Culture. To keep it simple, they would have to perform or appear at least once a month, wherever the officials tell them to. For free. For 34 months. Yes, they could live at home. But there is no way they could go on tour if they had to be in South Korea every month to sing at some diplomat's kid's birthday party or whatever. They said no thanks to that.
Currently, Jin and j-hope are serving. Eventually they will all go, and be back as a whole group in summer 2025. We are very proud of them!

Very well said 👏 I was looking for a comment like this. And on top of what you mentioned, they (the government and media) kept dragging on the possibility of giving them an exemption which, in turn, caused a lot of controversy around the group. I’m so proud of the boys for shutting that down and making their own decisions.

Well said. So glad you clarified that point. Other agencies tried to use BTS for their own purposes but got shocked when they got what they wanted but they themselves could not fit the criteria because only BTS met it now they looking like blinky 😳. Also nice point BTS suffered all this hatred before they even had a chance to prove who they were in the early days all because they refused to walk the industry walk, but karma. I really like these guys because if the respect they show fir the whole group.

      @lu6687 Год назад +4

whether bts wanted or not was irrelevant, it's mandatory. BTS has shared their opinion on it in their pre-debut songs and they are not in favour of mandatory service, there's no need for pro-military propaganda here.
BTS are proud to serve their country but they did not aspire to enlist in the military as you are implying, they do it because it is their duty as healthy korean men of age. They did not like other's using them for political gain so they said they'll go when they are called to go as is their duty by law.
They never asked for an exemption, that is correct, but they were more in their right to get one. Football players who just got in the World Cup, even if they didn't play in the big game, got exempted and did only to 2 or 3 months of service. Children of influential people (Chaebols) get exempted from service all the time bcause their parents make some calls and suddenly they don't need to serve.
BTS being made to enlist even tho they bring more revenue than a big number of small companies is not something we should be happy about. The south korean government does not understand how big BTS is, and that is shown exactly by putting their safety at risk as they did with Jin. (which idk if you already know but we found out today that a nursing officer from another base sneaked in jin's base to give him medication, unauthorized by anyone! which ended up in Jin getting sick for getting vaccinated twice!! That person only got reported in March, that happened in January!!! and she likely won't face repercussions bc she slept with a higher officer to manage to get in Jin's base unnoticed for 2 whole months before being found and reported... NOT TO MENTION, Since Jin's enlistment and the leak of his base location, an influx of young man assigning themselves for enlistment on Jin's base with hopes of seeing Jin has plummeted.)
The South Korean government chose to ignore just how big BTS is and now our members are facing the short end of the stick, with their privacy being compromised and their safety as well. Idols being harassed in the military is unfortunately nothing new, but with BTS their risk is higher.

Just wanted to add that BTS was not part of the petition to be excused for military enlistment. They have always stood by the fact that they would serve whenever called up. It was other K-Pop groups and idols who tried to use BTS as a means to get out of military enlistment. As of date, 2 of the members, Jin and J-Hope are already enlisted, and it's speculated that RM is next. They are all to start their enlistment between now and the end of the year in order to be reunited in 2025 as a whole once more.

BTS had to go through so much hate and discrimination from the very day they decided to create music together. There have been countless attempts to diminish their hard work and kindness. Each one of them deserve the biggest apology. All they have wanted to do is create music that can bring us all together and they have succeeded. Each member went through their own struggles and together they kept going forward with their head held high. It’s honestly so heartbreaking to see the amount of hate & discrimination they received for absolutely nothing. Almost 10 years since they debuted and their personality, hard work and dedication hasn’t wavered at all. This video is good but XCeleste just scratch the surface, the reality was way more harsh than that. The amount of hate that BTS are receiving compared to other groups is ridiculous and a lot of reactors or new army are obsess about the question : "what has BTS done to deserve all those hates?" . They've always been very humble, down to earth and respectful towards others. It's difficult to understand without knowing the context. The "Big 3" are the 3 big entertainment compagnies in South Korea, : JYP , SM Entertainment, YG. They dominated the Kpop industry (Idol system) since 20 years, they have not only the money, but the power and the connection with all the entertainment média, radio (payola system) , and TV show (Kpop is born with TV show, they are very important). Every Kpop group have to work hard to succeed, and Kpop industry is very compétitive, but the groups who belongs to the Big 3 have what is called "the Big 3 privileges" : large media cover, daily radio play, invitation in ALL the TV shows. It's help a lot ! So during years and years, only the Big 3 groups wins awards on Korean or Asian Award Show ... until BTS. From a business point of view, Koream culture is hierarchal and strict adherence to this hierarchy is mandatory for everyone. For a small unknown company (Bih Hit) with ragtag idols (BTS) to dare to compete with the big guns is near blasphemy; so every effort is taken to ensure this system is not disrupted. That's just how things work. BTS and Big Hit was différent since the pre début. They don't have money, they don't have connections, they don't have power. Just their talents and raw potential, their hard word, dédication to their fan base, and ... freedom. Big Hit let the boys have control over music (and it's NOT a common thing in the Kpop industry at all ) , express their opinions, allowed them to talk about issues that many in SK society wouldn't, like mental health, school pressure, disparity in societal classes and so on. This mindset, added to the lack of fund and connections, made them an anomaly in the Kpop Industry. Their authenticity and their passion attracted fans , not only in Korea but worldwide. They begin to grow... so the Big 3, who at first, look down on BTS, tried to buy them, fail and so tried to block BTS from broadcasts and TV promotions. BTS being creative, went around the establishment and develop their own shows, their own media platform ( Weverse) and used youtube to subvert the industry. Which made people in the industry mad so they tried to sabotage them through made up scandals and accusations, with the active help of their own groups fandoms. BTS went through a lot of hardships, and Army fandom too, (that's why the bond between Army and BTS is so strong) but they succeed way more than anybody can predicted. They responding to the hate with their hard work and talent. But even now they still don't get the media coverage they diserved in their own country, because even if their Compagny Hybe (formely Big Hit) is one of he richest now, the Big 3 still have the power.
You should react to a Boracity magazine video "Why the music industry is terrified of BTS", it's very informative
They were so often disrespected on TV Show when they were young (most of them were not adult at this time ! you can see Jungkook , he was just a kid ! ) , that they stop Korean TV show for years, and got their own reality show with Run BTS. It's hard to see these old video.

I think it is helpful when you view BTS as the biggest group in the world to recognize that was not the case in the mid-2010's. Things such as death threats and internet smears were not on a group with a large following no matter how dedicated a much less developed ARMY showed loyalty and protection. They played arenas not stadiums. I believe their first stadium showcase was as in 2017 as a supporting group to Seo Taiji and the Boys on their 25th anniversary. You would certainly enjoy Classroom Idea and Come Back Home from that concert.
As to headlines, the main attack group was a fan base for a large corporation concept group which debuted a year earlier and which was fast becoming Korea's most popular. Throughout this video you will see the 3 *'s for the group's three letter acronym. I will leave it to ARMY to say who they are but will note negativity was not emanating from what actually is a very talented group but their overzealous fans.

None of those are plagiarism, you can’t plagiarize a hair color. And school concepts are very common not only in Asia but everywhere in the world. (Disclaimer: I'm not Korean, but I live in Korea and this is what I saw/have been schooled on from Koreans around me) Currently, one of the ways to become exempt from service is by winning at a certain music/dance competitions. As far as I know, the music competitions are mostly like instrumental - piano, violin.... However, some record companies were saying that being a K-pop idol is just as intense and strenuous as a classical musician. Therefore, the standards should be re-examined to allow different types of music.
When the talk of military exemption for k-pop idols started heating up, I saw multiple news articles using BTS as the main picture. Because of that, many people, who just glanced at headlines and saw the picture, interpreted that as, "Oh, BTS is trying to flake on their national duty. They win a few awards abroad and now they think they're all that." No one around me was talking about the record labels who actually brought it up even though, remember, BTS's company was never even at those meetings. BTS never asked to be exempt, they said multiple times that they'd go when called upon. Basically, the other record labels saw BTS's success abroad and figured it couldn't be that hard to get their artists to win something abroad as well. That way they could get an exemption and not have to deal with those 2 years of their artist being out of the spotlight.
When the government announced the new stipulation, a recommendation from the culture minister, the record labels were up in arms about it. Why? Because BTS is the youngest to ever receive it. This time the record labels knew exactly how difficult it would be to win that award and that pissed them off because now it seemed like the exemption was only for BTS. Karma is a b--- and she's an army. These record labels had people slinging BTS's name through the mud for even thinking about skipping out on their civic duty, when that wasn't the case at all, only to end up with an amendment that only BTS could enjoy. :)

One thing to know about Hybe and ARMY: we don't play with BTSs safety. If there's a death threat, their agency takes it seriously and ARMY have actually acted as protective barriers for the boys at times. BTS and ARMY have a very symbiotic relationship.

A lot of people who get called out for talking bad about bts LOVE to say "I'm a fan" as soon as they get backlash. It's happened so many times. Also the fact that the guy so proudly said "There still needs to be a European band at the top" rubbed me the wrong way. Like what do you mean there still needs to be a white boy band at the top?? Weird...

They weren't that big yet when they cancelled the show. These guys get stalkers and death threats regularly. I'm certain it was with real reason to believe attempts would be made. I wish this never happens but as ARMY you are constantly confronted with hate towards them and even Army. BTS broke a lot of boundaries and tore down the walls of so many genres. They also say what's on their mind, I'm looking at you Kitty ❤ RM ❤ My Hope. That is what I like best about them though. Their success has created jealousy, left other entertainers feeling replaced or threatened and then there's the crazy "He's gonna be mine or nobody's" people. It truly does take an Army to protect them, promote them, make sure their music gets played.

That fandom that accused them of copying STILL does it. Last time was for the guys rubbing Jin’s head when they sent him off to military. And a few weeks before that they were mad Hobi wore a black hat like their fave wore (it wasn’t even the same style). There’s still a lot of jealous people that drag the guys day in and day out. ARMY works hard to report & shield as much as we can & we support BTS in everything so they can be successful & always be on top & shove it in their haters faces.

All of the other KPop groups knew when these young boys debuted they was gonna be a problem to be reckoned with! The talent speaks for itself but the industry had to try to do what the industry does best! THIS group of guys have something that so frickin rare that they have out stood all of weapons formed against them. How many times have different American talent scouts and producers tried to do this (white or black-boy or girl). The way our mindset is and that need to have all of the shine, recognition, money and titles have ALWAYS tore down the group! Their culture traditions of respect, education, hard-work and honor attributes to their mindset, maturity and professionalism. They are teaching the world beautiful lessons if only we humble ourselves and take note instead of trying to tear down and discredit! I see alot of OUR culture as inspiration in them...but that's another discussion 😉 After watching this, now is the best time to watch the MAMA 2019 awards...it will put into perspective why they shook other Asian music entities and the US into a chokehold!!

I'm glad you have checked this out. This really is a great reminder to us, that BTS didn't just rise to fame in a day and there have and still has hardship to face....
I wish I could say that we could all smile now and be content as We have already gave BTS a place in the industry, the Top. A place they deserve and finally be acknowledged... 🥹 but as large of an existence BTS and Army have, the ongoing fight is still ON..
I wish I could say they are no longer being discriminated and downplayed, mistreated and ignored, but we all know how SCAMMYS AND BULLSHTBOARD is treating them right now, from a Group to Solo works, the fight ensues 😭
AND NOW, this damn corrupt music industry , especially in the West, is doing all its best to push down their solo works even with all the proof of sales and streams ...
Even with all their contributions to their country, you would expect that when u visit SK , u would see a lot of BTS related stuff , but no... Recently, xCeleste mentioned that on her last trip to SK and the lack of BTS related stuff was dumbfounding 😭 even with all their accolades, their own country still couldn't fully acknowledge them, WHY 😭
The fight will always be an uphill battle indeed.. as our Boys enlist one by one, let's keep a strong faith, and just do our Tannies justice . Keep streaming, keep supporting and keep an open communication with BH and Armies . keep reporting those malicious content and Sasaeng accounts 👿
Lets all stand strong ARMYS !! We have walked the thorns with BTS since , and we will keep walking .
As Yoongi said, "We are all climbing a mountain and ARMY is claiming BESIDE US. Lets Climb till the end. "
    HWAITING BTS! HWAITING ARMY!

You are getting the timeline all confused. You kept saying that they are big and that they should have all security or bodyguards. Maybe now in 2023, but not back in 2014/15. They were small potatoes with a small budget. I get really frustrated when you keep saying things like why would they cancel the show? Why aren't they doing that? They have the money!!! Aren't you even listening or watching what the narrative is saying? They are near bankruptcy during this time.

Guys you have to remember that this was when they weren’t liked at all. Hence “ bts hardships “. I thought she made it pretty clear this is the early days. Before army was what it is now. So they didn’t have security like that so they couldn’t take any chances. I don’t think you guys understood that. And how you mentioned in the video where you watched them at the amusement park and how no one ran up to them. They weren’t well known in the beginning. That’s why they could walk around like that. They were so called nobodies at the time. I don’t know how you aren’t getting that lol. ( I’m not being mean at all I’m just not sure how cuz she mentions it several times this is when they weren’t that well know or popular. ) They were the underdogs for years. This shows you the beginning of them. How they grew , and what they faced while being underdogs. 💜 always love the reactions tho keep them coming !!! Much love !

the thing about bts and bighit is that all their money goes directly to them, without using middle men to promote them. Like you said, it started from having no other option because they didn't have money to pay for advertising. Now it is a question of honour. they don't pay radios to play their songs, they don't enter spotify deals, they don't pay to get ads on youtube, ... which are common practices by most artists. So what happened is due to the mass amount of streams and views, youtube and spotify are actually losing money because of bts. So since last year, they have kind of "shadowbanned" bts, deleting streams and views on purpose, just so they don't have to pay bts their deserved views. We used to get 100 million views during the first 24h, and now because of youtube constantly freezing and deleting the views we barely get 10 million.

36:04 Don't get it twisted, the American music industry hates BTS worse than the Korean music industry does! BTS doesn't pay for radio play or schmooze the music or media industry at all and since they don't, they are purposefully fucked with in both South Korea and the US. There are plenty of explanation videos on this, so I hope you watch them. For example, Billboard changes the rules every time the boys top their charts. This is a proven fact. The latest example being our boy Jimin--he was the first solo Korean artist to ever make #1 for his song, Like Crazy, so in the middle of the next tracking week when he was projected to stay in the top 10, Billboard changed the rules and filtered 60%+ of his sales. Seriously hope you watch a video explaining about this because it's fucking insane how all these institutions have such a huge hate boner for BTS that they go so out of their way to specifically fuck with them just because BTS isn't spending their hard-earned money to work within the shit rigged system. 37:47 The BTS members have started their military service and hope to be reunited as a group by end of 2025. So far Jin and J-hope are enlisted and the other boys will soon follow. Other groups and record labels were just trying to use BTS as an excuse to avoid their mandatory service but the boys never asked to be used in such a way.

The whole military exemption issue was such a mess and it went on for years! BTS always said they will enlist when it's time, AgustD even said that in the lyrics of a song, that's how committed they always were. They never asked for an exemption, but suddenly all their rival record labels were banding together to ask for an exemption, in THEIR name! How low is that? They slandered BTS for years, but still had the nerve to petition saying there should be an exemption, using BTS as an example because their own artists were not big enough. Then they all got upset when when BTS was allowed to postpone their enlistment. Which, by the way, was not done to help BTS, it was done because the Korean gov. needed public favour and because they needed BTS to create traction for the world expo before they enlist. As a fan, I'm happy that BTS became so famous, but I also hope they can just relax and take it easy when they come back, they've already given us so much and spent way too many years being hounded by vultures. I mean, can you imagine hating BTS so much that you petition to the head of state to take them down?? They're not criminals, they're just singers singers doing their job, but some people are unhinged 🙄 rant over.
