Gold Buying Strategy - Starting From Nothing

  • What would your gold buying strategy look like if you were starting from nothing? This video covers what kind of plan I'd use for buying gold and what kind of diversification I'd focus on.
Didn't catch that monthly breakout? In this video, I used the following as an example.
    $1k into the market (stocks)
    $550 for gold (1/4oz AGE)
    $200 (BTC or similar)
NOTE: I am not a financial planner. I'm just a guy on the internet, talking about precious metals. Always do your own research before buying gold or silver.

In the future, when gold is going for $2,500-$3000 an ounce, we'll be saying, "I wish I could go back to the year 2020 and get gold at (approximately) $1800 an ounce."

FOMO gets a lot of people because they think if they don't buy now, there will be none left, but typically when there is a major sell-off, that is the best time to buy gold, just like right now where people are trading gold for Bitcoin but I would rather keep my insurance and not risk volatility. To me, gold is insurance and silver is savings

I put the time machine in forward instead of reverse. Future me is doing well. Came to the party late, but better late than never. Family has financial security and I have peace of mind. Over the years converted about half of my silver to gold. As years went by the silver was getting too heavy for me to drag around. Should have done more gold vs silver. I was buying gold at around $300 - but despite "hindsight being 20-20", fiat money then had a much different value than fiat money does now. I bought what I could afford and in the amount that seemed reasonable at the time. I do the same now (at around $1800/ozT this week). Next year I may do the same at $1200 or $2500 per ounce...

and boring at the time, it will pay off the long run. I’m a parent, and the one of the most important things I hope to do is teach my children is not to make the same mistakes I did. Very solid advice really appreciate your measured approach to precious metals. I’m targeting about 5% of my portfolio to be in gold and another 2.5% in Bitcoin. Diversification is so critical to insulating yourself from issues from other historically more lucrative wealth building mechanisms (which in my case are equities and real estate) but also in allowing you to enjoy the ride if one of them does spike and appreciate considerably. I think having some exposure to all these different asset types is also really valuable in terms of your financial education.

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  3 года назад +1

Thanks for the comment. I use those same percentages for gold and digital myself. I'm not sure it will come together that way or not, but those are the numbers I think of. (And I have some work to do on both.) Your point about financial education is huge. Just buying $50 of BTC will take you from knowing nothing about it at all to giving you a pretty good understanding of how it all works. Thanks for watching!

I bought a lot of gold in the 90's and early 2000's, not as an investment, but because I have always been a coin collector and prices were low and the supply was high. The profits from those years range from 300% to 500%. However, when I convert my costs to 2020 dollars, the real profits range from 150% to 333%. So, not bad. I started buying gold again in late 2013 and the real profits range from 20% to 40% depending on the year. I have bought nothing since January, betting that prices will drop once Covid has been resolved. Also, thanks to Covid, there has been very little gold available in our local market. I have taken long breaks from buying in the past and if prices don't drop, there may be one coming up. It's takes a lot of restraint to resist the urge to buy.

Buying a bunch of weird, random stuff is definitely a rookie mistake I made in the beginning too.

Since figuring it out in 2014, I’ve stuck to ASE’s, 90% and 10oz bars (silver).

If I were the younger “me”, 20 years ago, I would have done exactly as I did....and diversify into many things and did just that. I did that knowing that some of my positions were not going to do so well. But, I also had “small” pieces of my portfolio that I considered super high risk stuff, fully expected either zero or moon shot winners (if I were to estimate , it was less than 5% of total portfolio). I ended up being able to buy our second home with the moonshot returns on just a few winners. Diversity is the key. No crystal ball. Lose small. Win really big by taking on risk that you can afford with very little money. It’s possible, but do your homework first. Your video lays out some very good points.

The reason I am subscribed to your channel is that we think alike when it comes to stacking. I started stacking back in 2011. I own a lot of silver and I regret every purchase. I also own gold and do not regret any of those purchases. I never tell anyone that they should buy silver. Silver sucks. Its sucks for many reasons. I am retired now so I don't bother with stocks. I figure that my pension is invested in stocks. If my pension fails most likely it will be because the stock market fails. I need gold to back stop my pension. If I was your age and still working I would own some stocks. If I could go back in the future to 1980 I would invest all my money into Walmart stock and live happily every after. We can't do that.

    • @2is1gold

I'd call local coin shops and ask if they do trades based on the ratio. I've heard there are some who do, but I had to negotiate quite a bit to get to 80:1 when the ratio was actually 78:1. Outside of that, it's probably checking Facebook groups to try to find local interest. That's a hard one. Silver is so easy to buy. Harder to sell for a good price.

Hint: Generic silver will sell below spot and if you're lucky you'll get spot for an ASE.
