This was such a great checklist! I definitely have more work to do this year. But I have had one win - I had found that I was switching to electronic entertainment partly because I didn't want to "get out any more mess" because there was so much clutter. Last night I spontaneously got out an art project I've been avoiding since the Christmas of 2022, and I look forward to working on it again! Home makes you feel stressed? - Most rooms. Misplace or lose items often? - My phone 😂 (it is much better when my room is picked up, though!) Stress or binge eating - Not much, though stress scrolling? Definitely struggle with that. Takes a long time to clean - Yes Avoiding inviting friends? - Working on that. (It is a big stressor for my Mom.) Owning things I haven't used in years? - Yes (and more of them than I need) Decision fatigue? - Improving! Oozing drawers and closet - I've almost conquered this one! They close... just not all the way comfortably 😂
My uncle taught middle school art for many years. He found if each child had their own 64 color crayon box it was harder for them to do a project compared to a child that had two colors. The two color kids were more creative and freer with what they attempted than the others who had to make more decisions.
I could relate to most of what you said, but then I spent three years decluttering, with the goal of minimalism. Once I got there things felt a bit bare so I added back a handful of items ( 2 plants, and a couple decorative bowls) and it now feels homey and comfy without feeling stark. I feel so free with all the excess gone. =)
That’s fantastic! I think it’s 100% OK to add things back in if it doesn’t feel cozy. A lot of people confuse minimalism with deprivation, but I think it’s the opposite - comfort and alignment!
@@AtoZenLife I wanted to add that although it wasn't because you wanted to, I liked that your family was able to move in 6 hours. My goal when I started decluttering was to have things so tidy and minimal that I could pack my whole place in a day. I think I am pretty close to that goal, but it would take more like a weekend. i think it's close enough. The basic idea was to never again have a move like every single move in my adult life has been, which is chaos. I wanted to be able to get a small Uhaul and just take one load of stuff and call it done, and I am definitely there. =)
I had to laugh when you said “run out of room in your home” my mom has been trying to use my house to store extra stuff for years. I still struggle at times to say no but I am getting better. Family clutter is the worst!
I looked around in my basement and I have some stuff from when my boyfriend moved apartments to a house 20 years ago. I'm not saying any more about it, over half was crap and I got rid of it! Some day I will deliver the rest in a box and hide it in his garage 😂😂.
Yes! I’m working to declutter my room and half room but my parents are in the same boat yet idk if they are the type that will do what I’m doing 😢 even if they see how much work it is for them but also I still have to help with it
I rented a 10×10 unit for my stuff, ran out of space and moved up to a 20×10 unit. Paid for about 3years. Finally started cleaning it out and May of last year I cleaned it out and no longer have it. What a waste of money. All your videos gave me that push to let go! Thank you so much for these videos.😊
One thing I find really funny in this video is when you try to depict clutter it’s clear that your spaces are too clean and organized to look like real clutter. Thank you for this message. I need this!
Oh my goodness...I'm starting the declutter TODAY. I always feel anxious when I come in my home, and I will either head straight to the couch and watch netflix or youtube for hours, or I'll head straight to the refrigerator and get something unhealthy to eat. I want to be proud of my home and happy to be in it! Thank you so much for citing that study from Cornell. I just thought it was me!
I keep trying to declutter because I think about my son and if anything happened to us what a task he would have going through our stuff . Mind you he is a collector too, like my husband . Movies ,books , posters ,geek stuff galore ,what a horrible example we are to him! 😢 I am going to make this the year I purge seriously. Wish me luck!
My neighbor is Like that. She is crippled with so much indecision. I really feel sorry for her. Losing her hubby almost 4 years ago doesn't help either.
I have over 30 years of keepsakes and collectibles. And just this past year, I finally been able to get rid of the ones that don't really mean anything to me. Ever since I saw your videos 2 years ago, you inspired me to get myself together.
I used to hit all of these points, but I got an opportunity to start over when I moved. I only packed the things i was willing to pay to store because I was going to have to put everything in storage for as much as 30 days. The cost increased as the size of the storage space increased. I also packed only my favorite clothes to use while in my temporary location and learned that I could get by with a lot less clothing.
Inviting and cleaning are really the biggest benefits of minimalism. Like yesterday. We decided to go swimming with our kids and wanted to tidy up and do some chores in the afternoon before there was a family gathering in the evening. Then my brother-in-law, his wife and their child asked if they could come in the afternoon and IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. Of course, there was a bit of chaos, we didn’t manage to tidy between the visitors, cooking and bringing the kids to sleep, but I was still comfortable having people at home because we always have room to move and it was a „fresh mess“, because I now am able to tidy „on the go“ and no mess hangs around for more than a few days. I love the spontaneity it gave us.
Yes, that’s such a huge perk. It makes the parts of life you SHOULD enjoy so much more enjoyable because you aren’t stressing over mess in the back of your mind. 👏
When I start thinking I need new organizers that’s usually a sign the clutter is creeping back in or that I have more than I can manage for the size of my space. We just received new scarves and winter hats for Christmas and I’m torn between finding a new bin to keep them in vs choosing which ones we like best and sharing the extras. I know, the answer is share!
I have taken a adjusted No-buy year this year. I’m not going to beat myself up just because I haven’t been doing a perfect zero in the first week because my goal is to be more aware of my choices and not to mindlessly just buying my feelings out. And my true end goal for 2024 is to finally become a minimalist, with only collections of happiness.
I've just moved house & am determined to fit my belongings into 5-6 large-ish tubs for my next move (which may be in five months; the new house I'm in is going to be extensively renovated). As an aspiring minimalist who has decluttered well over half her possessions, I was feeling pretty smug watching my former flatmate declutter late last year. Until I moved bag after bag of mixed, disorganised stuff into my new place. My new criteria is, "Do I want this item so badly that I would go to the trouble of moving this again?"
Yes to every single one of these except for paying for storage! I have made it my goal for this year to clean it all out and get rid of it. I’m that committed I had already started from last year… but I feel it is going to take me forever
If your car is essentially a storage unit on 4 wheels, you have too much stuff. If your home has the same smell as the Salvation Army store, you have too much stuff. If your cat prefers to drag things outside instead of dragging things in from the outside, you have too much stuff.
Hey Marissa! I would say, after having many children in a few years, that allowing the 6-12 month rule to stretch to two years if a baby has been born or the family has moved, allows a little more breathing room. 💜
I want to thank you. I been watching your videos for over 2 years. The video about your past life helped me to understand why I was hoarding. It helped me to declutter my life. And now when people come over to my house they love it because it is so organized. One of my sister -in - law said “do you have a maid because your house is too clean and beautiful”So ❤ thank you once again for everything.
Just watched someone talk about 333 and I went through my wardrobe and I have just over 33 items in my whole wardrobe While I was counting I decluttered a coat that had a receipt in it from 2012 I’m decluttering from 3 bedroom house to a motor home so I am decluttering a lot I also let go of my summer dressing gown and when I am unpacking my winter box which only has my winter pjs and dressing gown the dressing gown will go I have a long cardigan I can use
Thankfully, I am in maintenance mode with minimalism, though every time I think I've hit "the" threshold, I find more items we can live without. Then I find a new lower threshold. I enjoy your weekly "training" videos. Thanks.
Not any longer as I have been Blessed to have followed Your Journey and Teachings these years ! Thank you Forever ! I enjoy Your Wonderful Family So Much !😊😊😊
I’m guilty for most of these signs, but your videos have been helpful in my decluttering journey. I now feel inspired and motivated to simplify my life.
I had to laugh (at myself) while listening to this video! I have watched you on RUclips off and on for awhile now and did do quite a bit of decluttering. But recently, i am going through a divorce and moved out. I am renting a tiny home while my own tiny home is not yet finished. I look around my space here and yes, still extra stuff and a camper full of storage!
I havent ever thought i would feel comfortable in a plain style home, but yesterday i took out some decorations and tidied up my living room and it felt simple and refreshing. Like i have less problems to deal with lol. Being a pet mom of 4 is changing me (2 cats & 2 dogs). I just want to see essentials and nothing else, or else it gets crowded in my head. Overwhelming...
Another long comment. I'm so sorry haha. Oh man, I feel so stressed out when I go to my parents' house and in-laws' house. I wish I could declutter their homes for them...At least my parents have me clean their house for them every week, but it is frustrating they won't let me get rid of a lot of their stuff (once in a while they let me organize a thing here and there but they put it back within a few months because they are those types that like to SEE all their things and know where everything is somehow with it all messy). They keep so much on their counters. I told my mom recently, "Remember when you were really poor in the 1980s and had no clutter at all? It looked so much better before you worked full time..." I love seeing all these old photos of you and your family. I digitized all of my photos and have them backed up in a few places), but I am one of those who loves seeing photo albums and scrapbooks. They are "organized memories" I suppose. You look a bit like your mom, though like yourself too
I’d like to se more of your in time processing of emotional items, your older recordings. It would be helpful to see someone actively processing the pain, loss, and moving on item by item. We are still back where you were. Thank you for sharing your vulnerable self with us.
There is some magic here, the moment I begin one of your videos, I want to start decluttering stuff or organizing better... So much that sometimes, i forget to listen to you and have to rewind ! 😄
I enjoy your channel and these are excellent tips. I have to say if someone comes to my home I don’t think they would judge how I live. If I did I would ask “ are you here to see me or my home”
I do spend way too much time deciding what to wear, but I have been slowly widdling down my clothes. You didn't mention people buying bigger houses to fit all their stuff as well.
I wish I had your advice with clutter back in the 1990s and early 2000s when my children were young. I knew I was stressed from having so much stuff. We did downsize so many things had to go but after finding your videos, my recent decluttering (and what comes into my home) has been more intentional. I watch other decluttering videos, but yours really gets me the best. Thank you!! (Oh, also, when you said that so many people have things in storage, that is true. Where I live, there are so many storage units with more going up all the time) New homes here are built 10 feet apart on small pieces of land.
The greatest compliment I can offer you is that I RARELY even "Like" a video, let alone subscribe to a channel. I have a feeling I'll be learning a lot from you in the coming years. Thank you for sharing your life and being so open about everything! That does not go unnoticed or unapreciated. Please thank your husband for me as well, he must be an amazing supporter of what you do.
YOUR CHANNEL IS VERY EDUCATIVE. AM FROM KENYA HERE MINIMALISM IS NOT INTRODUCED PEOPLE LOVE MATERIAL POSSESSIONS. THANKS FOR THE GOOD WORK YOU ARE DOING
This is PERFECT timing, thank you. I’m about to start a “year of tidying up my life” and document it on my new YT channel. These are some great jumping off points.
I have been considering making the leap into minimalism for a long time now, but I guess I'm scared to do it! I want to get started and truly let go of things, but I get a bit overwhelmed with the "what ifs" of it all! "What if I miss this after I let it go? What if I need this someday?" etc. I really desire that peace that comes with less clutter and less emotional baggage due to having way too much stuff that isn't enriching my life, but getting started is really difficult for me! I have so enjoyed your channel, and every time I watch your videos it encourages me to make steps in the right direction for a better life.
I find all your tips valid, but would love to hear your opinion on people living in small flats. My husband and I live in a 50 square meter flat in Berlin. You lived in Berlin yourself, so I am sure you are aware of rent prices and availability of affordable flats here. Yes, our flat feels cluttered. Yes, drawers overflow with clothes. I keep telling myself it is because this flat is just too small for all the things I need and often find myself having problems to implement tips because I need a minimum amount of items and also use most of them.
We live in a rented apartment of 56 square metres and now we have a baby..It feels so cluttered…wow…And husband works from home too - that means that half of our living room is his office.
I have lived with my parents and two siblings in 54 square meter flat in Poland. My mom kept bedsheet from her childhood and clothes which don't fit her anymore. When I tried to clean her closet all her clothes and shoes ended back. :(
I suspect you have inadequate storing solutions/furniture and too many things. I live with my husband in 25 square meters. I am not a minimalist. We have hundreds of books, art and art supplies, extra towels, linen, special clothes for my hobby, a quilt in the making, extra pots and cups, plants... and we still have empty shelves and space to move around. An ikea bed with storage and utilizing bertical space were great solutions for us.
I am a disabled introvert. I live in an apartment complex that was formerly a motel. My studio apartment is essentially a master bedroom with a kitchen counter. Space is limited and precious. I have a mobility scooter and a manual wheelchair taking up valuable space. As much as I would like to have visitors in my home; having them in my bedroom seems too intimate. I welcome any and all of your advice as to how I can create a living space that is comfortable and inviting.
We just got rid of 4 boxes and 2 bags and 1 cabinet to our diabetes association and it felt great. I’m still working on getting rid of more I have a box in the office and 1 downstairs to add to as I go along
Your videos are great thank you 🙏. I'm currently decluttering, just filled a skip bag and feel like a weight has been lifted off 😁😅. It's exhausting but will keep going...
Example 3 ties up with the cortisol levels as well, cortisol makes us store fat tissue that is hard to loose. And getting rit of the stress factor helps with removing the hormone. Also, decluttering and tidying up can be a nice workout, another cortisol remover - keeping body in motion. Happy New year!
I once walked into a home where a child in a wheelchair lived. There was a couch and a chair in the living room - that's all. First thought, omgosh it is so empty. Second thought - I feel so calm!!
I loved to watch your videos because of your beautiful apartment in Berlin. I keep waiting to see you moving to your own place but it's taking so long... Anyway, I love your channel!
Are there red flags for not having enough stuff or poorly decorating, I get annoyed at myself for leaving the laundry out but whenever I put them away I feel anxious because the room looks empty
I do tend to have a cluttered living , and sometimes bedroom. But i m not in debt! However i am an emotional eater with a slightly caotic and cluttered kitchen... And i would never have to clean / dust 4 to 15 figurines in a book case since im a genuine reader. I actually only have books in my book cases....
And now that we have a baby in our lives…I feel I can’t breathe in our small rented apartment. We received so much stuff and we Also bought quite some stuff …we mostly use them though…Can’t wait to have more time to declutter my space because it’s depressing me…Half of our living room is my husband’s remote office and half of it is filled with baby entertainment (bouncing chair, baby gym etc that I don’t have storage space to put away)
I first started minimizing decor when we had our son. Adding all his accessories (so much brightly coloured plastic!) made our apartment feel claustrophobic--particularly because I was in the apartment all the time. I got rid of tables full of decor and framed photos in favour of a super saucer, etc. Over the years I've kept the trend going, and now I have only a small set of floating shelves with serving ware as decor. No end tables, no bookshelves with decor, no console table. Instead I have a few pieces of art on the walls. It's so much easier to clean and it's visually so much more open. When your family or friends offer to help with the baby, take them up on their offer, and get their help decluttering! They can get boxes for you, help you pack, make decisions, deliver donations and clean while you nap. Hopefully you live somewhere with decent mat leave and can take a year to do the job, because you should mostly be napping for the first few months.
I totally feel you! We have a house buts it’s small. The first year of my child’s life I was also a completely sleep deprived zombie, so the task of figuring out how to place things was not a priority. Now expecting the second one, and the house is sooo much better. Had time to think hard about space functionality and got rid of unnecessary clutter and furniture. I also kept things that fold away easy (like jolly jumper or quick foldable playpen). The playpen also doubles as a bassinet. We change diapers anywhere with a portable change pad. That eliminates a change table. Don’t get too discouraged, it will pass! At some point you’ll have more sleep in you and will be able to figure it out! I also went minimal with the toys. Congrats on your baby 😊❤
What would be your advice in knowing what to let go regarding sentimental items ? I never know if im holding onto crap I don't need or getting rid of soemthing that might feel special later
Yes to a lot of these... Does anyone have any good advice for decluttering/organizing when your partner is awfully messy? Sadly we don't really share the same view on tidiness and cleanliness. I feel constantly overwhelmed with the state of our apartment but he doesn't seem to care. I already talked to him about it several times but it didn't change anything. So if anyone has some suggestions...
What's worked in our house is I've gotten rid of items under my control, which is most of the house. If you have less stuff, cleaning is way easier. (Less laundry, fewer dishes, fewer decor items to move when you dust) Decluttering is the key. Then don't buy more things to replace items you've decluttered. Then create a chores and cleaning checklist and divide it up. If he doesn't clean, get him cooking?
I struggle with the same! My husband has had so many sports related concussions that the part of his brain that helps with organization is damaged. Pay attention to things he's not using. Go around with a box and load things up. Then bring him the box and ask him if there is anything in the box he feels he needs to pull out to KEEP (key word keep, because the hope is most of it is left in the box to donate). Sometimes people need to have things in front of them in one place to make decisions. You may have to encourage a lot of the decluttering. My husband won't go through things unless I ask him about specifics. Sometimes it's even item by item. It's exhausting in the front, but once you get through it with him less stuff= less to deal with. I've also found that giving my husband a dedicated closet/room/space for a lot of his stuff, I'm less stressed because it's somewhat contained and I'll shut the door. Also, be strategic where things are placed in your house. If clothes end up on the floor in the bathroom, put a basket where they usually end up. Make it crazy simple in stratigizing storage solutions. 1 step solutions- no lids, no covers, nothing that requires other things to be moved. When storage has to be shuffled around that's usually when it fails.
I agree with the other suggestions. My husband is also not on the Journey, however, He also doesn't buy stuff, but keeps his old accumulations. Since I am stressed out by clutter I took the following steps: 1. Decluttering my stuff and most of the generic kitchen utensils I thought useless. He never noticed in the last year... This also included my books, but I only gave those of mine away of which I knew He would never be interested in. I kept the rest and Had space to arrange them more nicely. 2. I wanted the living room and kitchen area decluttered and calm since those are the spaces I am spending my time in. He wants his old stuff there too partly, but it all is tiny and looks so random and not nice that I decided to get a three-tiered tray and arrange most of it on there. And that worked great: He believes his stuff has a very special place and I can accept it now that it is contained and forms an entity. And with the rest of the space I do as I like. 3. Most of the bigger stuff that was around everywhere I told him I was concerned for the dust and everyrhing to ruin it (Trust my, I was Not concerned at all) and we could agree on putting it into nice boxes. He even got rid of some stuff in the process. But I suppose it is Harder when your spouse brings in new stuff constantly
Hi Marissa thank you for this video, this is definitely me, 4 years into Decluttering and still have cortisol overload. Determined to do this but whyyyyy is it so hard? 😩
Have you ever thought that closets weren't made long enough and properly in older homes and our wardrobes are exactly what we need for our lifestyle, but the closet needs to be fixed. I love my wardrobe but the closet needs remodeling. 🎉🎉
I can imagine! We lived in 120-year-old home that had no closets whatsoever, so we had to figure out something that worked for us - hope you can do the same! 👍
i love your videos + what you do. you are inspiring by modelling an achievable, practical approach to decluttering + minimalism. i was just a bit surprised about the "usual" cost of almost 300$ for the course you're offering, since you are also promoting frugal living at the same time... could you explain the reasons for that, maybe?
That's a great question! I've seen other decluttering courses go for upwards of $500-$700, so I think this course is still incredibly affordable for the amount of value that is packed into it. I would also say that, for me, being frugal isn't about NOT spending money at all, but rather spending money on things that add value to my life. So as a passionate course-taker myself, I know the life-changing power of courses and that this one has a lot to offer! Plus, I would also point out that between the $350 worth of bonuses, which include budgeting/minimalism printables and a mini-course on how to sell clutter, this course could easily pay for itself within a month or two -- not to mention the money saved with the intentional shopping practices and reduced need for extra storage spaces. Hope this clarifies things for you. 🙏
@@knizia_klimperbein sure thing! I actually just had a woman in the private Facebook group that came with this course share that she’s already made $280 off of a few things that she sold on eBay since taking this course, so the course has more than paid for itself already! Cheers and take care. 👍
I was doing pretty well until you got to the shopping part. 😮I don’t know how I’m both a minimalist and a retail therapy shopper at the same time! I do give away ALOT. But it would be nice if I could stay out of the stores.
This is why I secretly throw away stuff when I am back at home. I don't care if it's rude, or if the things are not mine! If my family is unable to take care of their things and things start to be too much, dirty, rot, etc, everything is getting thrown away or donated. I have stopped caring about people's feelings on this.
What a gift you are to me! I just had surgery so have spent time decluttering drawers that I can reach. I appreciate your personal stories and your vulnerability, as well as your wonderful humor❤ thank you!
I live rurally. I usually haul my declutterred stuff to goodwill (75 miles away), but do you have any other ideas of places to donate? I have tried a yard sale, but we are just too far away.
Yeah I would say Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay. Or you could see if there are any local consignment shops/thrift stores in your area that aren’t a national chain like Goodwill.
For larger items such as furniture, try putting it by the roadside with a large sign saying, "Free - Take Me." A large flattened cardboard box is good to use for your sign.
Yeah ……. we live in under 350sq feet. 3 kids , 2 adults. It sucks. I love books . But I am learning to let go, and minimize. I laughed at #7 because, my cupboard is literally to small for what I need for 5 people. ohhhhh yeah #8 😅😅
I watch this video, and for half of these signs, my reaction is "Yes, that's true for me, BUT..." I'm living in my grandma's basement with two kids, no kitchen, no dressers, and only two small closets. I've been trying to reduce our possessions down, but it's a simple fact that we're living in too small of a space. Of course our clothes are spilling out of the closet- we have three people's entire wardrobe sharing a single closet. Of course our pots and pans are spilling out of the cabinets- we have only two cabinets and two drawers for all of our kitchenware. Of course I can't save money, I'm unemployed. A lot of the things regarding emotional eating, weight gain, and trouble making decisions are happening because I'm new to being a single mom. I feel like these might be a good measure for people who live in a large enough space and aren't going through tough times. But for folks like me, a lot of this has nothing to do with owning too much stuff.
Thanks to Temu its a lot easier to buy useless stuff. I admit that I get lost in the Amazon/ Temu/Shien atmosphere. Why go to the store when shit can be delivered to you the next day or following week? 😂 Oh boy.
😂🤣 I’m sorry, but I’ve watched and followed you long enough to know that the state of your living space in your short term rental is not truly like that unless your boys are playing Fortnight 🤣.. this is staged 🤪
Actually we have almost nothing, considering we are a family of tree . My son had his 7th birthday party yesterday, it was a house party with just a few kids and parents (we live in two bedroom apartment ) . Usually we can deep clean our home for less than hour . But this was a NIGHTMARE 😭 (legos , toys everywhere, cake on the walls and doors , juice spills and the apartment is all white ) . I know they are kids but this seems to happen even when we are all adults I guess because we don't have much space. The thing is that the mess is so overwhelming to me , it makes me don't like having guests at all 😭

I totally agree, for me the "getting started" is absolutely the most difficult part! @@siuhoahambaliroehrig6922

I heard years ago that Americans rent those rooms or garages to put their things I could not believe it. Then they do not use those things. Ridiculous
One thing I find really funny in this video is when you try to depict clutter it’s clear that your spaces are too clean and organized to look like real clutter.
Thank you for this message. I need this!
Right, I did my best, Charlie. 😅 Thanks for watching and good luck decluttering!

Sign #11: Your pile of laundry is a veritable mountain, but the closet is still full. Ack! 😬
I keep trying to declutter because I think about my son and if anything happened to us what a task he would have going through our stuff . Mind you he is a collector too, like my husband . Movies ,books , posters ,geek stuff galore ,what a horrible example we are to him! 😢
I am going to make this the year I purge seriously. Wish me luck!
My mother is a hoarder and collector of things who will not clean up her stuff. This is her 100%. Love your channel. ❤
Sorry to hear that about your mother. 😢 I hope someday she can experience the freedom of letting go. Cheers and thanks for watching! 🫶
I've been inviting people over as motivation to help me get my place sorted out 😉 Each invite, the tidy up is getting easier.
Funny on #10- I get decision fatigue going to the store with TOO MANY options. This is so true all around.
Just me doing a accountability comment.
My boys and I actually saw a car like that next to us at a stoplight the other day…completely packed!
😂
😂True!
Hey Marissa! I would say, after having many children in a few years, that allowing the 6-12 month rule to stretch to two years if a baby has been born or the family has moved, allows a little more breathing room. 💜
Sure, everything is flexible! I’m a big believer that there’s not hard and fast rule 👍
Omg yes! I had to wipe so many knickknacks on shelves as my childhood chore. Now I love clear surfaces!
Just watched someone talk about 333 and I went through my wardrobe and I have just over 33 items in my whole wardrobe
While I was counting I decluttered a coat that had a receipt in it from 2012
I’m decluttering from 3 bedroom house to a motor home so I am decluttering a lot
I also let go of my summer dressing gown and when I am unpacking my winter box which only has my winter pjs and dressing gown the dressing gown will go I have a long cardigan I can use
I enjoy Your Wonderful Family So Much !😊😊😊
Always happy to have you here, Kenneth 🙏
I’m guilty for most of these signs, but your videos have been helpful in my decluttering journey. I now feel inspired and motivated to simplify my life.
I had to laugh (at myself) while listening to this video! I have watched you on RUclips off and on for awhile now and did do quite a bit of decluttering. But recently, i am going through a divorce and moved out. I am renting a tiny home while my own tiny home is not yet finished. I look around my space here and yes, still extra stuff and a camper full of storage!
Thanks for this vid Marissa! About to move in a much smaller place and delutter IS a must rn... Happy decluttering everyone!
Good luck to you! 👏
I’ve had lots of people, say the same, but once they experience the calm and ease for themselves, they say they could never go back!
It looked so much better before you worked full time..."
I love seeing all these old photos of you and your family.
Your course has helped us out so much to gain clarity as to what we actually love, use and therefore need in our home. ❤️
Thank you so much and I’m so happy to have been a part of your decluttering journey. ❤️ It’s been such a pleasure to watch all your progress!
I wish I had this advice back then too…I was a mess. 😂 Cheering for you!
Wishing you all the best with decluttering and RUclips! 👍
Thank you. Love your content, but also really appreciate how clear spoken & easy to understand you are. You are a gift. Thank you.
I’m still working on getting rid of more
I have a box in the office and 1 downstairs to add to as I go along
i got boxes broken down today for the recycle bin. its gotta go to the trash!!!
📦👏
Your videos are great thank you 🙏. I'm currently decluttering, just filled a skip bag and feel like a weight has been lifted off 😁😅. It's exhausting but will keep going...
Example 3 ties up with the cortisol levels as well, cortisol makes us store fat tissue that is hard to loose. And getting rit of the stress factor helps with removing the hormone. Also, decluttering and tidying up can be a nice workout, another cortisol remover - keeping body in motion. Happy New year!
Well, I must've been stressed for 30 years. 😅
We found hammers everywhere when we cleaned out my father in laws house! I guess he just lost them and bought new ones all the time.
I am loving that green jacket 🧥.
Thank you!
You seem to have beautiful skin. Maybe sharing your beauty routine with us?
Thank you for this vid! 💛
Thanks! I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks so much for your kind words and support, Linda 🙏❤️
The amount of stuff you have definitely makes an impact on how you feel when home. Dress levels go way down for me at least
So true 👏 💯
I really need to let go of my various sizes in my closet.
Compassion for others and not yourself is a MOOOOOOOD
not a healthy mood, but a mood 💯😅😮💨
😂🫶
Since I am stressed out by clutter I took the following steps:
I love my wardrobe
but the closet needs remodeling. 🎉🎉
I can imagine! We lived in 120-year-old home that had no closets whatsoever, so we had to figure out something that worked for us - hope you can do the same! 👍
People owned way fewer items of clothing when those houses were built.
I laughed to myself thinking how you likely had to stage the messy B-roll for this and how that conversation went with the boys lol
They loved helping me make the mess 😂
Many thanks!
it's hard for me because i ama vinyl record collector'i have lundia for storing the records; i started selling some of it
i love your videos + what you do. you are inspiring by modelling an achievable, practical approach to decluttering + minimalism.
i was just a bit surprised about the "usual" cost of almost 300$ for the course you're offering, since you are also promoting frugal living at the same time... could you explain the reasons for that, maybe?
@@AtoZenLife thank you for that😊
@@knizia_klimperbein sure thing!
Yayess. This video is gold.
I try pretending I have to move.
Would I want this or that to pack, and bring with me?
Every item must be boxed or bagged. Is it worth it?
I have renovated my bathroom and we have 4 children. I only kept essential things and we have so much space even if we are 6!!!
Watched this video tonight. Now I know what I will do tomorrow, lol.
This is why I secretly throw away stuff when I am back at home. I don't care if it's rude, or if the things are not mine!
If my family is unable to take care of their things and things start to be too much, dirty, rot, etc, everything is getting thrown away or donated. I have stopped caring about people's feelings on this.
Everyone has a breaking point, I imagine you've reached yours.
I agree.
@@JaneH3675 You are right, I have 100% reached a limit~
Wonderful advice! Copy,
I HAVE A QUESTION. HOW CAN COPE WITH SOME ONE WHO FORCES YOU TO HAVE MORE AND MORE THINGS. AND YET I FEEL WHAT I HAVE IS ENOUGH?
I bet it was hard to "stage" the clutter mess throughout this video! haha
It was super easy 😉
L😘ve that little girl who wanted to pet that "dog" 🐻. 😂😂😂. Was that you??? 😊
It was not! That went viral on social media recently. Lol. 😂
You inspire me! Thank you!!!
Thanks so much and take care! ❤️🙏
Maybe try market place and post stuff if you have a courier service available.
Yeah I would say Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay. Or you could see if there are any local consignment shops/thrift stores in your area that aren’t a national chain like Goodwill.
Great ideas!
Sometimes churches have clothing closets and household supplies for people in need. Maybe there’s one nearby that would accept donations.
Hmmm... So if I have 4 putters and 3 x 3 woods might mean that I need to de clutter...
Your situation is certainly different. I'm very sorry for the hard time your in right now. Give yourself some grace.
I feel like a mr potato head is actually a great example of something where you have too much stuff to manage and keep track of
So no I no longer have too much stuff. 🙂
Making great progress, than 👏
I tend to eat more in organized, clean environment. Clutter and disorganization makes me lose appetite.
@4:13 #5 CHAOS: Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome 😂
Mirror, meet Dominique. 8/10... oy, I need to do something in 2024, especially since I am moving into a small house in 2025.
You can do it 🙌
Yup yup yup yup yup :)
We can work on that! 👏
Thanks to Temu its a lot easier to buy useless stuff. I admit that I get lost in the Amazon/ Temu/Shien atmosphere. Why go to the store when shit can be delivered to you the next day or following week? 😂 Oh boy.
❤❤❤❤
Please tell me that you have your boys clean up after themselves.
😂🤣 I’m sorry, but I’ve watched and followed you long enough to know that the state of your living space in your short term rental is not truly like that unless your boys are playing Fortnight 🤣.. this is staged 🤪
It absolutely was staged! But I wanted to depict the before and after difference - and what a huge difference it makes on the mind 🙏
What if you don't like inviting people over , because you hate what your home looks like after 🫣
What about your home do you hate? If you feel okay sharing 🙏
Another sign you have too much stuff 😅
Actually we have almost nothing, considering we are a family of tree . My son had his 7th birthday party yesterday, it was a house party with just a few kids and parents (we live in two bedroom apartment ) . Usually we can deep clean our home for less than hour . But this was a NIGHTMARE 😭 (legos , toys everywhere, cake on the walls and doors , juice spills and the apartment is all white ) . I know they are kids but this seems to happen even when we are all adults I guess because we don't have much space. The thing is that the mess is so overwhelming to me , it makes me don't like having guests at all 😭
I hate inviting people over because I hate what my home looks like ,I am embarrassed by the amount of stuff we have! 😢
I always tell my children when we are preparing to leave someone’s house, they need to help pick up, otherwise they won’t be invited back.
