I wonder if big camera manufacturers are gonna fully embrace the vertical video format. I know, I know, blasphemous right? I don't like it either but we just have to face the fact that it has come. GoPro with the Hero 11 introduce a near square image sensor that'd be forgiving for 9:16 in the edit, Adobe has sort off embraced it by giving us a dedicated vertical video editing workspace. I know videographers that's commissioned for purely making 9:16 video would just rotate the camera sideways, but they're almost always have a cage that later can be fitted with a tripod mount on the side. What I'm asking is, with Sony (and Nikon) pushing out dedicated vlogging cameras lately (with the Full Frame version now! dang..), when I thought vlogging is dead, when are they gonna put a 1/4" screw hole on the side to fit a tripod plate directly on the camera and shoot in portrait straightaway?

One of our staffers just shot her recent review of an underwater iPhone housing on it if you need more examples. She really prefers it for solo content creation and travel.
Oh, Sony. The mics on the (now quite old) FDR-x3000 and HDR-AS300 had the best internal mics I've ever heard. They rival Tascam and Zoom gear; no joke! Why didn't Sony use the same tech on the ZV series? Also.., I wish they hadn't abandoned their analog IBIS tech. sigh.
I really appreciate this review. Us wilderness types have some feature review requests... Water resistance, shock resistance, grit resistance, temperature performance. I like the idea of a cheaper camera...because can most of us really afford insurance or find insurance to cover a tumble down a snow bank with a GH6 or (heaven forbid) Nikkon Zed 9? You might consider a review of the best cameras for hikers and backpackers. I have been using my Otter Box encasied Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra for two yeats now. I would like something with a little more versatility that I can still take a tumble or suffer a snow storm with. Any thoughts?
I have a few questions and I hope this is the place where you will see it. Just got mine last week and in S-log3, the lowest I can go on my ISO in video is 1000. Is there a reason for this? Is there a better profile I should use besides s log 3? I don't mind the color grading and such but curious.
It's a nice still camera, but not a good choice for video. For 499 you can get a used camera that records 60p or at least 30p with a mechanical stabilization. By the way, it's electronic stabilization is not good. Or you could go with a cell phone. To make the video worse, it tends to use high shutter speeds -- instead of closing up the aperture to keep it around 1/60, and this doesn't make videos in well-lit areas look natural. You can see that in the darker scenes the shutter was slower, possibly between 1/30 and 1/90, making the movements look more natural. At this price, even a brand new camcorder, if you don't mind the bigger size, will do better. The good deals of this camera is the photo quality and the lens quality and choice of focal length, but these apparently do very little to help on the video side. I hope beginners don't fall for it.
Cell phones did not kill the point and shoot market. Uninspired releases like this did.

I'm so happy for the return of crying Jordan. I wonder, does he think of his brother Gordon to get into the right mental state? Or maybe about a weeklong fishing trip with Chris? 🤣
What focal length are you at when using 4k and stabilization?
The imaging was surprisingly sharp. If the ZV-2 has 10 bit, 20 mm on the wide end, and this level of sharpness, it would be a great RUclips camera.
Probably another year or more now for zv2
@@marcust123 yeah. But Sony keeps launching new products so we'll see what shows up.👍
They will not put 10 bit in the ZV1 series for maybe 5 years. It’s not even in the rx100 VII
@@davidm5790 i agree buddy i was really hoping this was gonna be a zv2 upgrade with better specs extra but this is a huge letdown oh well i think il get a fuji x100v
@@marcust123 x100v isn’t much of a hybrid either. For stills it’s good but if I want to do video I’d get an xs10 or even an xe4.
Well... I'd like to see 10-bit option through the line-up
I wonder if big camera manufacturers are gonna fully embrace the vertical video format.
What I'm asking is, with Sony (and Nikon) pushing out dedicated vlogging cameras lately (with the Full Frame version now! dang..), when I thought vlogging is dead, when are they gonna put a 1/4" screw hole on the side to fit a tripod plate directly on the camera and shoot in portrait straightaway?
thank you for this i’m contemplating upgrading my current vlogging camera (VJIANGER 4K Digital Camera and I also use my iphone 13 pro max ) i would love to get off my phone and finally have more space, more options bc i have to delete to use all of my space for storage 😩🤦🏾♀️ it’s madness and i saw this camera come up in my feed on Amazon but know nothing about it. i searched here and you’re the first video to come up 🙌🏾 thank you again i think ill buy this one
One of our staffers just shot her recent review of an underwater iPhone housing on it if you need more examples. She really prefers it for solo content creation and travel.
@@dpreview thank you for that i’ll definitely check that out
I know some things about cameras . So I'm trying to say that I'm a noob . Is this good for beginners?
Oh, Sony. The mics on the (now quite old) FDR-x3000 and HDR-AS300 had the best internal mics I've ever heard. They rival Tascam and Zoom gear; no joke! Why didn't Sony use the same tech on the ZV series?
Also.., I wish they hadn't abandoned their analog IBIS tech. sigh.
Nice Stilly shirt, Jordan!
Reminds me of the Nikon 1 V1 from 10 years ago.
The purple box isn't new, I've never seen it go red myself x)
Hey sony What about new aps-c photograph camera !???
DJI Action 4 or zv1f?
Does anyone have experience using both?
Excellent video 📹
A video 📹 camera with no zoom ?
A camera with no RAW?
Very difficult to sell on in used market.
It has the features of a $250 cheapo at only double the price!
Nice Hair sir! what do you use to maintain that look.
Get an RX0, that's probably your ticket.
I have a few questions and I hope this is the place where you will see it. Just got mine last week and in S-log3, the lowest I can go on my ISO in video is 1000. Is there a reason for this? Is there a better profile I should use besides s log 3? I don't mind the color grading and such but curious.
Jordon sure got the fun reviews while you were unavailable!
Sony Rx10 series. 🤷🏻♂️?
