    I have one of these heat guns and I was thinking about making a video similar to this one, but you did a better job than I had in mind.
    The brakes are tricky, because other factors come into play. Splashing into a puddle and directional wind can throw off temperature readings. I have seen a small amount of wind throw off the left to right front brake temperatures by 20 degrees F.

    The front brakes take a heavier load than the back so they should be significantly hotter after use if they're the same as the front you have an issue

    Awesome video. By common sense, I've always knew that an infrared thermometer would come handy diagnosing a vehicle. At last, I found something interesting and informative using an infrared thermometer for vehicle diagnostics.

    The front brakes do 70% of the breaking energy, so they should be much warmer.
    Your front brake were about 149° and your back breaks were about 93°, or about 0.624% the difference between the temperatures. Your breaks are very efficient in this configuration. Great video.

      I do agree. I'm a mechanical engineer and the front is usually higher than the rear, the front has more load including engine weight and cabinet drive. Even with ABS and EBD brake systems, there should be a temp diff

    Did your check engine light come on after you removed the coil wire? How hard was it to clear when you did?

    • @killawattgarage
      @killawattgarage  5 лет назад +1

      For this model, then check engine light would have come on while the coil was unplugged as the ECU would realise the fault. Once plugged back in and on the next start up the light would have gone out. The fault code would have been stored as a Pending Code. As the fault was a once off after a few engine on/off cycles and without the code repeating the pending code can clear on its own. With a basic code reader or scanner you can also clear this code within a few seconds. Hey, thanks for the comment and I hope this explianation answers your question.

    Front brakes and the rear brakes will NEVER match. The front brakes do the majority of the braking the rear is just there to assist the front so the front will always be higher.

    Hey Killa, thought i saw you working on VW 2.0 TSI. What hoses do you check for coolant? I pointed a fluke laser at what looked like the incoming and outgoing and got 115 (46 C) and 145 (62 C) which doesn't make any sense to me. My issue is the analog gauge sits at 190 (87C) but the ECU (through Torque) is reading about 222 (105 C) average . Worried because i just changed out a clogged radiator and fixed all the hoses. Pump was replaced last year with aluminum graff when i did a bunch of preventative mx, timing change , oil leaks, valve cleaning, etc., etc. THanks in advance for any suggestions.

    WOw so far i have seen these temp gauges work, but the one he is showing you here is a SCA brand i believe ie: supercheap auto brand, yet i have seen no Infer red light emitting from some of them, thus must be faulty, but will check to see if these things are good compared to a touch Food grade expensive brands, also a lot of real good mutti meters have a temperature probe which you can use as well, as long as you dont mind getting you probe and hands near very hot surfaces which is why most mechanic have heat proof gloves when they are working on hot engines. :)
