- Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) episode 18 and 19: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III review. This is a re-edit of the AVGN two-parter about the third entry in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film trilogy. In the movie the turtles find themselves transported back in time to ancient Japan. It has nothing to do with the game Turtles in Time, but they eventually added that name to the film.

I'm sure it would've gotten a laugh just from the absurdity of mutated ninja fighting turtles mentioning anything toad related, even if you don't know anything about the Battletoads series.

this is, by far, the most "he's gonna take you back to the past" ever episode. the level of detail in nostalgia about the tmnt movies release is just astounding.
The Nintendo VS. genesis vid is the most "He's gonna take you back to the past" video if you you're not strictly talking about James being in character.
In that video he has clips of himself as child James talk about why Nintendo is more awesome than Sega.
I still find it odd that he never carried on with "The Angry Movie Nerd!" I remember wondering if he was ever going to do a review of Super Mario Bros The Movie in character. I guess the Nostalgia Critic took over that role.

This era was peak James Rolfe. Haven't seen this in maybe 5 years but after rewatching I'm reminded why I got so much into AVGN. Just feels more well written, sincere, and legit, like all his stuff from 2006-2008ish.

I wish the TMNT had a Days of Future Past movie where Leo, Mikey, Raph, and Don prevent their past selves from using the scepter, and instead, the 8 of them battle Super Shredder and Krang even though Splinter may not help them.

I think he condensed the two episodes into one and as you probably saw in the video they added a subtitle to the film so he put a message there to denote that.

I started watching AVGN when I was 12. I am 85 years old now.
I only found James about 5 years ago. Gutted that I wasn't watching a lot earlier! Still, at least I found him and his amazing content. For me, the man has to be the best yputuber of them all. He's been cr sting original and new content for 15+ years. That is incredible!

Even as a kid I hated TMNT 3. They should've done something more interesting with the time travel plot and/or brought back Shredder.

I remember hiring this as a kid with my amazing Auntie, you know the kind that's too cool for school. She was awesome, she also introduced me to star wars, back to the future, basically she was a big influence on me. I kept telling her to watch the turtles movie and she never did. So a few years later she took me to hire a film out to watch with her and I convinced her to get Turtles 3. That film broke my heart 😔.
Turtles in Samurai armor is badass though.

@Better Than You In Every Way Also as far as I can tell thumbing down a comment does nothing now, it used to lower the number next to the thumbs up.
Now I much preferred this one to SOTO. I absolutely HATED how they refused to use their weapons in the second film. That, and the fact that they didn't actually even fight Shredder completely ruined the 2nd movie. I was so happy to see them using their weapons again in the 3rd film, that I found myself enjoying it much more.

I was surprised to have found out that prowrestler Kevin Nash was the one that had portrayed the Super Shredder in the second Turtles movie.

this is why I love James Rolfe, because even over 10 years later. He's still making quality, consistent content, and he still cares about his older video enough to pick them up again, and give them a touch up. Truly one of the best film makers in history.

Kind of a shame that they didn't maybe hint, that the samurai villain in this movie, might've actually been his ancestor.
Could even do something where the turtles messing about in the past, somehow managed to plant whatever proverbial seed that started the Foot Clan, like some pre-destined paradox thing.

The implosion of the bad guy was him landing in the chroma-keyed net below. They just cut away from the shot right after he completely sank into it.
I saw this movie in the theater at 9 years old and was so disappointed back THEN that I came home and angrily wrote a whole new screenplay. I think it was titled “TMNT: Awesome Egypt.” I’m sure it was a masterpiece. Lol
