agreed, I don't like the Pink set at all. I don't know why they try and say that the pink and dark hooks are the same? They are NOT!! The dark ones with the gold shaft are Superior to the Pink ones. From the handle, thumb deck to the ease and pointed tip of the Gold shaft dark ones!!! I like tulip up to a 5.5mm. my 6.0mm and up I like my clovers.

@@Pitoonya yes, it's so strange that they market them as being the same just a different color. The only reason I found out that they were different is because I needed a 5.5mm hook for a baby blanket that I wanted to make for my first granddaughter ( due to be born in 10 days ) so already having some Tulips and loving them I decided to go with the Pink hook. As soon as I started using it I thought " this doesn't feel the same as my other Tulips"

I have both Clover and Tulip hooks. I absolutely adore my Tulips. I have arthritis. Tulip and Clover both comfortable to hold. The hook size print on each hook has never worn off. As I am legally blind, I can see the hook size on Tulip but not on the Clovers. I have 3 sets of Tulip. Pink, Grey Steel, Grey Gold. Also the smaller travel packs. However it is what you are used to holding. As I’ve used Tulip more then Clover, therefore I prefer Tulip.

My grandma had only steel hooks and I never learned how to crochet with them. My hand was starting to hurt after a few minutes of using them. Then I bought the Clover type of hooks (they are brandless but they look the same as Clover hooks). I tried that hard rubber/plastic ergonomic hooks and they were getting slippery after some time of crochetting. Softer rubber handles have so much better grip.

I have some steel hooks also that I use for my thread crochet projects. More than a decade ago I found these grips to put on those tiny hooks. They kind of like like miniature pool noodles and slide(very tightly) on to the hook. I'm sorry but I have no idea what they are called or if they even exist anymore, just thought someone who needs something like this to make a small hook fatter can at least know they could still be out there somewhere maybe.

First of all, I am visually impaired, so having each size be a particular color is a huge help. Having the sizes embossed is nice, too.
Secondly, I love the feel of my Clovers..
Thirdly, my Clovers fitbperfectly in my child sized hands.
    Fourth.. The price is right..

My Tulips are the gray ones with the gold shafts, I'm not sure if they're constructed different than the pink? Mine are not "slippery" in the grip. My size "sticker" looks new to this day. I really appreciated this honest and thorough review. I love pink, too! But that's too bad about the hook size being a sticker. You'd think for $200 they could emboss the dang things! My favorite hook set of all time (I got my set of 8 for like $40 American) is the WeCrochet radiant crochet hook set, and they are my dream hooks, except for ONE THING: the sizes aren't printed on the hooks! No embossing/engraving (they're wood so I guess it should be wood-burned onto the hooks), no sticker, no nothing! Manufacturers take note! That one little detail goes a long way!
Also, I just wanted to say, whatever makeup you're wearing in this video is absolutely perfect. You look gorgeous!

I love simple and very basic hooks with silicone grip - very cheap. I watched some videos about various hooks and a lot of people recommended clovers soft grip. I've bought (thank God ) only 3 numbers and I don't like them at all. They are not as expensive as pink tulips but still pretty expensive. I was disappointed. Finally I tried Knit Pro Waves - I love them, they are light but not too light, have perfect hook that doesn't slip, that have different colours in different numbers and they go with reasonable price. I prefer knife grip so they are perfect for me. Recently completed all set. I don't buy in sets cause I don't want to be disappointed and pay a lot at the same time :D

I love my Susan Bates because of the in-line shaft and pointed tip. I'm 67 and have had Susan Bates since I was 11 yrs old. However, recently I did break over and bought a Clover set that I rarely use because I love the Bates in-line design. So I bought a set of Susan Bates hooks that have a black rubber handle, and I LOVE them!!!!!❤ A few weeks ago I invested in a set of KnitPro Zing hooks. Love them but, if you have arthritis in your fingers, don't get them. They are the most slender hooks I've ever seen. I really like them though because I tend to crochet faster with the Zing hooks. BTW, I'm a "knife grip" hook holder too.

You should try the Furls Odyssey hooks. I really love the large handles! They are my favorites, with the clovers close behind. I have one Tulip hook that I like, but once I tried the Furls I stopped using the Tulip. I prefer the wider handle, otherwise my hands hurt. Enjoy the Tulips, i’ve heard good things about them as well. Everyone’s hands are different.

The Furls Odyssey are supposedly good for people who have arthritis. Read the reviews. They are expensive but worth trying. They are returnable for any reason within a period of time, I forgot how long. But there is an adjustment period. They often have sales. I initially tried them because I prefer a metal ergonomic hook but the clover hooks are plastic from 6.5 mm and larger. I loved my clovers but not the plastic ones, so I tried the 6.5 mm tulip and then tried the Furls Odyssey. Over time I got used to it and now love it and bought many more, a few hooks at a time. However they have stickers for sizing. Some people use clear nail polish to keep the stickers on. I made labels with a label maker and that works. But it is slippery at first without a thumb deck. It takes time but I love the Furls best. When I use my Clovers they feel so thin now, although they are wonderful hooks.

This is July 2024, I’ve had my tulips for about three years, and they still look brand new. My clovers are even older and they still look good too. These are two really good products, and I think anyone would be happy with either one.but I have to be honest and say that I seem to prefer the tulips. They are beautiful, and feel perfect in my very small hands.
The big fuss for the clovers is that each size has its own color. This is valuable to me as I am., as I am legally blind. However, I will say that the white on black of the tulip is also very helpful. The pinks have black on pink, and that is good too.
You just can’t lose with either one of these hooks

Hi from the UK, I bought some aluminium coloured hooks from Amazon for £5.19 & then added polymer clay handles as I found that non of the pre designed grips worked for how I hold my hooks.
I hold them between my index & middle fingers in a sort of pencil grip or switch to a knife grip so my own custom made grips allow me to switch between the two & still have a comfortable hook position. Bonus being that I can have whatever designs I can dream of from retro spots to classic old school games like PAC-Man & Tetris.

I'm one of those people who get hooks from etsy. I love the hand-turned wooden ones best, they've completely changed the way I crochet. My hands never get tired anymore. The next one I order though is going to have either a clover or tulip metal shaft on top of the wooden handle so I'd be really interested to see your more in depth review of the hook part itself.

    • @vegangelist
      @vegangelist 2 года назад +1

      That would be really cool.
I like the idea of the custom, turned handles but I HATE crocheting with wood hooks. Even furls. I hate the drag on the hook.
I actually think the tulips are VERY comfy how I hold them (a loose knife grip). They are all day comfy for me. And I can't say that about many other hooks. Not even my streamlined swirls.
But if the wood handles were REALLY light weight (the weight is why I don't have Odyssey hooks), that would be a nice combo with the tulip head.
Tulips are smooth as SILK. Clovers are smooth but tulips are smoother. No question.
Who do you buy from on etsy that will put a custom wood handle on a tulip hook?

I like being ready to go in an instant, and need a lot of variety in projects to keep my wandering mind happy! I've begun purchasing the un-branded light-up kits with 11 hook sized and often extra notions in the packs like stitch markers, yarn needles, and even a small magnifying glass. I agree with you on the thumb deck of the Tulip. I am currently making a blanket using The Rose colored Tulip in 5.5mm . The thumb deck Ridge on the Rose Colored Tulips is bigger than the one on the Dark Tulips with the Gold Shaft. My thumb always creeps up and I end up rolling over my cuticle on my thumb and it ends up really sore or even cracked. I do have some of the Tulips dark color and a few clovers . I am finding ( just been using them since december 2020) That I like the Clover 6.00 and lager and I love the Tulip dark 5.5mm and Under. Something about the Tulip gold shaft is amazing. I also like Tulip dark ( not the Rose ) because the hook tips are more pointed than the Clovers in the smaller sizes . Both of these hooks have improved my crocheting skills tremendously . After not crocheting for over 20 years then coming back to it and sooooo much has changed and improved in so many way. In My Opinion if you are going to try these hooks buy one or two ( in the sizes you use most) of each and try them out first!!! You will not be dissapointed!

I have both sets, except I have the gray set of Tulips and not the pink. I love both the clover and the tulips, and just wanted to add my take.
I’ve had my Tulips for over 10 years and the size hasn’t come off at all and I use them often. I think that the thing that looks like a sticker is actually embedded into the handle. It also hasn’t faded one bit.
The shaft of my Tulips is gold-colored and very shiny and super smooth. I feel that this really lets the hook glide through the yarn and is the smoothest hook I’ve ever used. I use my clover hooks when I’m using a very smooth yarn and need a little more grip, which I find that slightly textured feel of the Clovers provides. And incidentally, the grips on both of my sets feel identical as far as the rubber is concerned. The grips are slightly different as far as the shape goes, but I’m okay with both (i use a knife grip too).
So overall, I love both, I use both, but u think I love the smoothness of the Tulips just a tiny bit better.

Happy Belated Birthday, Jayda! Well done, General! Well done!! Personally, I think he deserves +1 point for each hook! My favorite hooks are my Knitter's Pride "Waves" Hooks! My hubby got those for me a number of years ago. Great video. Have a wonderful weekend. (Only one more week and we get another installment for our calendar blanket!! Can't wait!)

      * giggle * You're right! He DOES deserve a +1 point for each hook (AND the case, I love the case!)

I love my Clover hooks the best. I have used lots of different hooks but Clover are the best. I have 2 Furls hooks and they are nice. I started out many years ago with Boye hooks.

Well, I love my Tulip hooks. I have the brown, pink and just bought my first red one. They are all great. But, I have just invested in Furls. I have very bad AR. I have found that the Furls allow me to crochet longer. I have bought the Streamline, on sale, and I love them. So, just like yarn, no hook is too expensive if you like it. 🙂

I have that same set. I like taking it with me on the go because I can just throw it in my bag

I have clover hooks, but I find them too short. I bought some other brand of ergo hooks and they are longer and have a nice rubber handle. I actually stopped using clover and started using these other hooks. I was gripping the clovers in a way that the handle was hurting the palm of my hand. Using the longer hooks made me change the way I held the hook and now I went back to clover and I'm using them the same way I was using the longer hooks. Thank you for your honest opinion. I'm sold on clover. I just wish the handle was longer.

I have a very cheap set of ergonomic needles that I paid 12.00 amazon. They also are engraved with size and I love them.
