Not allowing you to cross the yellow line is for your safety, not some so-called strange Chinese rule. Some high-speed trains run longer distances and do not stop at this station, so they will pass through this platform at normal speed. If you know basic physics, because of air pressure, high-speed trains will suck people close to both sides in, threatening personal safety. The yellow line can ensure a safe distance, so if you cross the yellow line, the staff will look at you. I have watched many of your videos, and you have never taken such a fast train. The extremely slow trains in India do not need this kind of yellow line protection, so I can understand why you feel strange. Have fun!

FYI: Don’t be put off by booking direct, saving you a bit of money and allowing you full choice of where to sit. I took this train back in January 2024, booked it myself the day before through their App and paid using a Revolut card without any problems. 😊😅 The whole journey, including transfers to train station, was extremely easy. Security, while ridiculously extreme, was exactly as documented online by many other traveller videos/blogs.
We couldn’t use the website and it declined our card soooo many times! We’d much rather have booked online because then we could have got business class tickets!
To be fair, they (Laos) is new about this railway stuff, so i guess their operator are paranoid😅 Indonesia also have Chinese High speed train BUT our security is not focus on scissors or spray, but we focus on suspected Bomb or gun because we think is stupid to hold passengers bringing scissors because it's only scissors, also is needed for camping so we didn't want to be a dick about it😅
I know this is going to make me even more determined to plan a return visit to LP! The four nights I spent there last October just wasn't long enough. I had heard that scissors and aerosols weren't allowed on the bullet train. You wouldn't of course be allowed scissors in your cabin baggage on a plane as it would mean you would have access to them during the flight, and could use them as a weapon. I suppose they're thinking along the same lines on the train, but the whole aerosol thing is a bit odd. Maybe they're thinking you could spray them in someone's eyes? Who knows, but it does seem a bit over cautious! Anyway, looking forward to the next episode my fellow Londoners! 😊

The total investment in the China-Laos Railway is less than US$5.5 billion, not US$9 billion. In terms of equity, China accounts for 70% and Laos accounts for 30%, which means that Laos can get 30% of the profits. But 50 years later, this railway was 100% handed over to Laos, free of charge.
This is in the interests of the Lao people. It is more convenient, more comfortable and faster for Lao people to travel. The railway boosted tourism in Laos.
