I am still using my M3 with the 11-22 and the Rode me mic. I really love the size and the quality of this set up. At this stage I don't think I will upgrade to the M6 just yet but anyone thinking of a new rig this is a fantastic setup for vlogging. ✌🏻

Canon really starts to kill it for vloggers in 2017.....M6 is awesome....and the SL2 is also a great camera for that. Didn't think I was gonna say that ever, but....damn....canon did a lot of things right with these two:) Greetings!

Thank you so much for this review. Most helpful ive seen so far. Very thorough and eloquent. I need help in deciding whether to go for the M5 or M6. I dont know which is better to be honest. The M5 (according to Canon's camera ranking) is supposedly better than the M6. Also, the screen flipping 45 degrees makes it easier if you're shooting "bird view" and downward if you want to get that perfect "eyes not darting off the lens" look you get in most RUclips videos. Still though I don't know which is better.
Hey, The Persona Code! As far as I am concerned, the only thing better is the resolution of the screen. The Af system is more versatile, but the M6 AF is stellar still. The slightest of differences in specs regarding performance, but almost exactly the same.
As yourself, do you want to be in front of the camera, vlogging, behind the camera, or both.
Vlogging: I woulf go with the M6, or the SL2 aka 200D
Behind the camera: M5.
Both: Also M6 with an audio hack for the microphone.
What exactly do you want to do with it?
Well I'm mainly going to use it for the publication house I'm working for. Interviews with celebrities or brand monikers, events, etc...heck myself as well Vlogging, Social Media (Instagram mainly) pictures with the occasional video. If it's 4k or 1080 that'll be brilliant. I will do a lot of picture shooting with it for the publication (AskMen, GQ) most of the time. The high quality shots you get to see on Instagram pages for bloggers or famous monikers is what attracted me buying a mirrorless camera. Still, the eluded mystery has not prevailed still...M6 or M5
Mh....if you are going to do a lot of stills, then a viewfinder is almost a necessity I think, in which case tht would mean M5, except in you want to spend more money on the overpriced hotshoe viewfinder for the m6. Money that in my opinion would be spent better on the 11 22 stm m lens. canons super wide angle zoom for the m series. It is pretty wide on the wide end, so you can be sure that you*re in frame when you point it at yourself vlogging.
From what you told me I think the M5 is the better pick for you with the addition of the 11 22 for vlogging.

fascinating vlog. speak directly to my kit. curious you didn't mention the 22mm- and I think did mention the nifty-fifty on a converter. curious on your thoughts to these options. the bracket is great - using a flat plate myself as the sticky clips are not available (reliable ) . all about content anyhow. cheers for great material.
I don*t own the 22mm. I shot with it once at a camera store. Pretty sharp, pretty good build quality, as with all the stm m lenses. But for vlogging, given the 1.6 crop factor of the M6, essentially giving you about a 35mm full frame equivalent, in my opinion gives you way too narrow a viewing angle to vlog. Good street photography lens though.
The 50mm STM lens adapted via the efs to efm adapter works pretty good. Not quite as good as with a canon dslr, but it is a very usable combo in my experience. Sometimes it is slower than with the dslr, but in lowlight it gets you pretty much the same performance as with a dslr and the auto exposure works at about the same speed as with the dslr.

By sticky clips do you mean 3m dual lock or the actual cable clips? Because I use a combo of both to mount mics to the M6.

Excellent video. In another video you stated that the Sony A5100 had very good auto focus. How does the auto focus of the Canon M6 compare to that of the A5100 ? Can you do a video comparing the two cameras ?
Hey, Bellva dear! They're both really good:) I feel the A5100 is snappier, but as far as precision and reliability go they're both at approx. the same level in my experience. I can do that, but it will take a while, because I have other videos in the pipeline, that I promised subs to do next.

It is hard to compare the two. Many a time I was super glad that I could wrap the gorillapod around a railing or whatever really to get a good shot, that otherwise I would not have been able to pull off. For me, for what I do, the gorillapod is the better choice. But the pixi is great for sure, really good price point and serves as a nice selfie stick as well as being super compact and easy to use. I love me my pixi for sure:)

Another great video!!! I am currently using the Canon 10mm-16mm STM lens for wide angle should I invest in the 11mm-22mm native lens for the M6? Besides the focal length and the fact that the 10-18 needs an adapter is there major differences between the lenses.

If you don't mind the bulky DSLR lens on the m6 body, there*s no real reason in my mind why you shouldn't use the 10 18 adapted. AF works pretty much the same, auto exposure is quick, both have stabilization.....it really comes down to form factor when you're asking about a major difference.

Thanks, Daniel:) Mh...same price point....no.....M6 Mk2 is great.....Sony 6400 is great....6100 as well....between the three you mentioned it is still the M6. No overheating (A5100) and dual pixel af (just contrast detection on G7).
I would go with the M6 still.

Thanks, Oh, man I wish I could say I graded in post, by it seem I rather butchered it in post:) At least in some shots:) Back then I didn'T own a calibrated screen and probabyl read the scopes wrong. However, a saturedted look can be dialed in with the picture styles or you can use a "Vivid" style preset.
I never ued it for stills:)

Hey, Honest Cigar Reviews! It*s a good option for bokeh within the native stm m lens selection, but for vlogging it is not wide engouh. 22mm with the 1.6 crop is a 35 mm full frame equivalent. Good for street photography for example, but for vlogging, in my opinion, a 24mm full frame equivalent, a 15mm for the canon crop cameras that is, is the bare minimum.

I am watching this in 2019.. I am new to vlog or making youtube videos so I plan to buy this camera, i mean a used camera... but I have to buy the lens.. which lens should I buy.. I want to make both indoor & outdoor videos..
I would go with th sigma 16mm if you are a background blur lover. It is a great look, and a very fast lense, which is good for lowlight video shooting outdoors. It is not a zoom lens though, so it is not as versatile as say the 16-70 zeiss......that one is more expensive and does not give you the same background blur.
Can you tell me more about what kinds of videos you want to do?

Hi, I'm Divided between the choice of smartphone (s7 Edge or Asus zenfone 5z or any other good smartphone) vs the Canon eos M6
I know its not even a fair comparison but I want something for video, vlogging mainly.
I really want to go with a smartphone because it would solve a lot of things, I'm just concerned whether the smartphone would be any match with m6, it doesn't have to be at par with m6, just almost that level.
what do you suggest, should I go with a smartphone, if yes, which one.
There is no way a smartphone can actually compete with an aps c camera in terms of lowlight performance, background blur and lens options. If that is important to you, then go with a regular camera. Also the selfie screen can come in very handy, depending on the way you shoot video. If you can do without one it'S not important.
Other than that. The phones have 4k, which the M6 does not have. With the S7 Edge you can get the samsung lens cover case that includes a decent wide angle for vlogging. If have been using that combo for years and it works...

Best Focus: Sony A5100.As reliable and precise as the dual pixel AF, but faster.
Best for vlogging: M6. Great AF and no overheating, external audio with use of the flip up screen via hacks:

A5100: Best AF, but overheats and has no audio input. Easy to use. Flip up screen. 10 18 mm wide angle lens is expensive. 1080p60. Camera around 500 USD with 16 50mm kit lens.
G7: 4k and 1080p60, no overheating, most video centric camera with best features, best possible quality of the three. But takes a while until you know how to handle the camera. Mediocre AF performance, but workable for vlogging, given the latest firmware and a new lens with stepping motor. Panasonic 7 14 wide angle lens expensive. Camera with 12 32 pancake around 750 USD.
M6: Best vlogging camera of the three. Flip screen, no overheating, dual pixel AF, 11 22 stm m lens rather affordable compared to the other super wide angle lenses. External audio input. Audio hacks so you can still use the flip up screen:

In my opinion, if you have the budget, or you can sell an old camera, the M6 is the best choice for vlogging.
If you*re new to vlogging the overheating will probably kill the fun in using the A5100 for you. You would have to be able to see the vlog in your head almost before hitting record, so you can be very decisive and selective with your shots. That way the shooting style allows for the shortcomings of the camera and they are no longer a problem.
The same goes for the AF of the G7. The AF will probably take the fun out of using the camera, if you are not willing to put in time to study it'S behavior, strengths and weaknesses. The M6, out of those three is the one you can simply run in full auto and expect it to deliver the best results it can. I think that is what you need as a beginner.

Hey, Ronald Cababasada! Well specs wise the M6 kills the M3, but I think the M6, although being a great camera is a little overpriced. It really depends on what situations you shoot the camera in. If you*re shooting a difficult lighting situations, then the M6 is going to make you happier than the M3 in the long run, although it is way more expensive I believe.

In what mode are you shooting in? I aways have a quite dark image.
A priority.....is maybe you exposure compensation set to a negative level.....you shouldn't have a dark image.....OR maybe is your display set to a low brightness? Sounds stupid but it happens to my all the time:)
How do i change the iso in movie mode. It just always says Auto. Is there a way i can change my iso and not keep it on auto
Hello, NaturallyMad3Up! When using movie modes, you need to be in "manual movie mode". Hit the Qmenu button in the middle of the click wheel on the back of the camera. Top left corner shows the options for the modes. AUTO MANUAL TIMELAPSE. If you choose MANUAL, the icon with the little M above the camera, then you will be able to set the ISO to the value you like or back and forth between auto and a value.
If you want the camera to do shutter speed and aperture in auto and just give you the option to set the ISO, then use the P mode on the mode dial on top of the camera. Shutter speed and ISO manually - Tv mode. Aperture and ISO maually - Av mode.

Is the Videomic pro in the way when using 11mm? I just ordered it and don’t like a double ballhead setup
It needs to sit back like that if you want to mount it the same way as in the video AND use a deadcat. Without a deadcat, foam wind screen only, a single ball head will do, as will mounting it to the hotshoe on top. Hope that helps you out. Greetings!

How do you get the footage so sharp and high definition with the M6. Ive been filming with it but when i put the footage on the PC its not so crisp looking like yours....PLEASE HELP!

I sharpen the footage in post production. I use adobe premiere CC. There's a plugin called lumetri colors, which also allows you to sharpen the image.
Alternatively you could alter the "standard" picture style and play around with the settings for sharpness. Raising the values until you like the results.
red main menu - 6th sub menu - picture style - choose standard (2nd from the left) - tap info - up the value for "sharpness strength"
If very fine detail starts to look over processed lower "sharpness fineness" a little, if that doesn't help the fines details you might try to raise the threshold to 5.
But the main difference is going to come from altering the sharpness strength setting.

Oh, in that case you*re going to love the video AF capabilities of the M6. The lumix is snappier for stills, but in video mode the M6 is king.

Hey there! Video AND stills, definitely the A6300. Faster autofocus, bigger buffers, faster stills shooting. The better sensor in my opinion, but that is largely personal aesthetic preference. Sony has a tendency towards a slightly green tint....maybe thats just my sony cameras, but I notice that a lot....
...then again, when it comes to video, the A6300 gets you 4k, BUT it overheats...that is a know issue. So if you*re planning to do longer takes, or it is pretty hot where you are.....probably that will kill all the fun when using the A6300.
Usability is much better with the M6, because it has a decent touch screen. With the Sony there's a lot of clicking involved and the touch AF is a joke in my opinion.
Ask yourself: What is more important to me?
Having a reliable workhorse without peak performance: Canon M6. No 4k, no pro video features, slower stills shooting, but no overheating, a selfie screen and very good usability.
Or...
Having a diva with stellar peak performance: Sony A6300. Overheating, so so usability, just a tilt screen, but incredible AF performance, better lens selection and more pro video features, like zebras and focus peaking.

They're generic ones basically, you can find them under different brand names. The german ones that I am using are from "Solomark". If you want to use the exact same ones, then check the german link to get a good look. But the american ones work just the same I believe and are from MDW. Greetings!

Jetzt werde ich deine Testvideos von Mikros noch mal anschauen, damit ich mich entscheiden kann, welches ich mir M6 nutzen will. Denn ich will ein cooles, kompaktes Setup.
Wie ist sie so mit der Belichtung als Vlogkamera? Denkst du, man braucht zusätzliches Licht oder geht auch ohne Licht prima?

Also das Setup mit dem Edutige ETM-008 ist mir persönlich das liebste, weil es halt echt so wahnsinnig kompakt ist. Der Windschutz bei den grüßeren Mikros ist besser, aber der form faktor von dem kleinen Ding ist halt unschlagbar und die qualität auch ziemlich gut.
Edutige hat jetzt sogar ein ETM-009, was nochmal rauschärmer ist, als das etm 008.
Also, was belichtung anbelangt, kenne ich kaum vlogger, die extra licht benutzen, ich kenne natürlich auch nur einen bruchteil der vlogger, aber das halte ich schon für recht selten. Also wenn man nicht gerade nachts vloggt, oder wirklich viele ganz schwarze stellen im bild hat, dann kann man auch ohne zusätzliches licht auskommen, meiner meinung nach. es bekommt halt auch schnell dieses TV broadcasting feeling, wenn man nachts von einer unnatürlichen lichtquelle direkt ins gesicht beleuchtet wird. das muss einem schon gefallen. wenn also ein licht, dann würde ich auf jeden fall ein dimmbares nehmen und sagen "weniger ist oft mehr":)

Another great video. The M6 is a solid option for vlogging. In the end I went for the SL2 because it was cheaper and I already have quite a few EF-S lenses. So far I've released four vlogs, with more to come, and I'm really happy with it. The only minor quibbles I have are that it can take a while to adjust exposure when you go between very dark and light scenes and also the mic input is not that secure. I've knocked it with the flip out touch screen a couple of times and the camera has switched to internal audio. What would be your pick between the M6 and SL2?

Toughy......mhhhhh.....I will have to get my hands on an SL2 before I can give a final verdict on that, but for me it is probably still the M6.....but I am biased as hell towards that camera because the whole M series helped my channel a lot and is still helping very much.
Then again, if say a beginning vlogger asked me I would probably go with the SL2 actually, because, as of now, without having tested it, to me it seems like a smaller 70D. Also everything is easier, mic on top, tilt svivel to the side, simple ef s mount, also pretty light weight, dual pixel AF. There's a lot that speaks for the SL2 over the M6 if I think about it. But I have to get my hands on one soon and start test shooting it:)

There's the EF S to EF M adapter if you want to adapt canon lenses. STM lenses with stepping motors work pretty well, except that the 50mm stm is slower with the AF in my experience. 10 18 and 18 135 in my experience work just as well as natives stm m lenses. Greetings!

Which mic do you think is better the baby mic or the big mic?
The big one is most certainly better. +20db pre gain, so you get crystal clear audio without static noise, and also the low cut filter is pretty good without messing with your voice a lot, like many others do. It is more expensive of course and a lot bigger though.

I guess you're talking either about the uv filter, which basically protects the lens, or the sun hood, which helps with lens flares. Did that answer your questions?
Slow focus :( Sony has much faster focusing
Yeah, whenever I see a video titels that has something like "lightning fast dual pixel AF" in it it makes me smile a little. It kills in the S7 Edge, because the processor is really fast compared to that of a dslr / mirrorless camera and the sensor is so small in the phone that the readout is crazy fast.
Really Sony beats the dual pixel on speed any day of the week, you*re totally right. BUT there's also a lot slower focus systems out there than the canon dual pixel AF. Greetings!
How long does the battery last for you?
It lasts me anywhere from 80 to 100 minutes of video usually. That's the original battery I'm talking about. 3rd party ones I am using get me around 70-80 minutes tops.

50 and 60 fps are NTSC standard, you probably have a PAL version that only supports 50 fps. But that is no problem, unless you want to play the footage back on a NTSC only device. Why would you need 60 fps instead of 50 fps? What do you want to do?

Mh.....it's a hybrid system....lens stabilization WITH digital IS....in my opinion it sounds better than it works......and actually shouldn't be called "5 axis...", because that to closely resembles the actual 5 axis all mechanical IBIS. I find it to not be as good as expected....and although the second level digital IS gives one a pretty steady shot, it does crop into the sensor quite a bit. I think regular optical stabilization via the lens is good though...

Yes, the camera then crops into the image, which means you lose resolution. If the videos are viewed on a little smartphone screen it isn't noticeable, but when viewed on a large desktop screen and you*re using second level digital IS, then the lower resolution is noticeable in fine structures.
