Yes 2 things missing from this review Rebecca saying she is only 5.4.5 feet tall and no Banana's in shot - come on this is features we come to accept in her reviews - so are banana's out of season? Not where I go shopping - year round manageability to scoff .
I have a Fabia SE-L 110hp (1.0T) and it’s brilliant. Definitely recommend, great fuel economy, brilliant infotainment system and really comfortable whether as the driver or as the passenger. Whilst it might take 9.5 seconds to reach 60, I don’t thrash my car so it doesn’t bother me either. It has plenty of power and does a great job on the motorway. The only thing I dislike is the Lane control system that I continually have to switch off (but know this is a frustration with most new cars)
@@purple2275 there are a few statements that I get a bit tired of hearing in these reviews, one is being “it’s not fast, it takes almost 10 seconds to reach 60” and “at this price point, you can’t expect anything else” when the car costs £20,000 plus. I mean, £20k is pocket change, right? These journalists sometimes need a reality check!
I bought one earlier this year to replace a Superb 4x4 272hp - which was an amazing car but would have landed me with a large fine at some point because it was so ludicrously quick. Surprised Rebecca only got 35mpg - that's a 'round town' average for me - I'm usually between 40 and 50 depending on the driving. 1.5 is a nice engine to live with; shedloads of torque so it isn't kicking down all the time. It's fast enough to make it relaxed on the motorway, overtaking is not an issue when required and it doesn't shake your fillings out on poor surfaces. I'm very happy with it.
@@robz1471 It's a totally different animal. The Superb was very much a car with a split personality. Most of the time it just wafted around giving you no clue how powerful it was, but if you floored it or put it into sport mode, it transformed into an angry, snarling beast. The Fabia is much more linear, and feels more agile too. Obviously, it's much more basic in lots of ways and nowhere near as luxurious, but I think I actually enjoy it more as a driver's car.
I have the 1.0 110 DSG MC my sister has the 1.5 hardly any differents in power and mine is much smoother and nicer sounding when punched 55mpg even when having fun really comfortable while looking sporty absolutely love it
Bought one. Love it. Great little engine, whilst not "hot" - is warm enough for a little car which is suited for the city. That said, I did a 500km round trip recently, and the car was comfortable. Fuel economy came down to 5litre / 100km (about 47MPG) in real world - which I think is perfect. Handling is great. Space for driver and passenger is great. Road noise acceptible. Whats not to like? Should have electric seat at least for the driver. Good to have? Would have been nicer with a glass roof.
Just been to the Skoda site and a decently spec’d 150PS is around £25K, which is a fair bit. This is close to i20N or Fiesta ST which may be just as economic apart from insurance for young folk.
As the former owner of the Fabia vRS (the original SE version) I think Skoda have dropped the ball on not having a Fabia vRS. You can get an Octavia, Kodiaq and Enyaq; yet the car they use in the Rally2 class in the WRC, the Fabia, you can't. Makes no sense at all.
I think this trim needs to be considered in the same bracket as Audi’s S-Line and VW’s R-Line: a sporty visual upgrade on stock underpinnings. A good looking little thing though. And the front seats look great.
I have no idea how you're getting 35mpg. I have the kamiq monte carlo with this engine which is a bigger heavier car and I always get over 50mpg on the motorway and over 40 around townn
What is it with car journalists and 0-60 times, we can't all afford cars that do it in under 6 seconds, anything around 10 is pretty ok for driving around town.
I really like this car, OK it's not a full on hot hatch and the Monte Carlo is more of a style model than an all out performance model. It's very sensible but a tad quicker than others in the range. I had a pre-facelift version of the last model with the old 1.2 four pot engine and in most situations it was perfect. Health issues now require an auto as my preference but I would miss the paddle shifters. I'd need to check if there is still a manual mode by shifting the gear select lever to the left. As you mention it's a motorsport-inspired edition of the popular supermini.
For just a split-second, I thought Chevy had re-introduced the Monte Carlo. Rear-wheel drive, mid-size coupe, Super Sport to take on the Dodge Charger! Now I'm disappointed. And, it looks like a VW Golf with different front-end styling. Wait! 150hp.? And, that's actually *with* a turbo charger?? That's pathetic! I'm sorry but it is. You have naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engines out there that can _easily_ do 150hp.
Worst days work Skoda ever done discontinuing the Fabia VRS 🙄 The new Fabia Rally car is amazing but i'am sure VW wouldn't want to upstage thier Golf R 🤔
Why are car reviewers so cagey about discussing price nowadays? Perhaps because they know most cars are overpriced? Or because they have become salespeople?
It's a good looking car especially in Monte Carlo trim, and a 0-60 time of 8 seconds is quick enough for most. Can't get my head round the 35 mpg, pretty dire for a modern 1.5 petrol unit. I would have thought that mid to late 40s would have been more realistic !
I also have an Octavia 1.5tsi and have averaged just over 50mpg in the 15 months and 15k miles or so since I got it. A mixture of "sensible" driving but enjoying the smooth power when safe to do so at almost every opportunity. I can get 60mpg+ on the motorway if I tuck in behind a lorry...............
Skoda Australia is a joke, they are asking for Fabia Monte Carlo AUD 38K drive away , same as for Kamiq. Sorry Skoda Australia you will not sell many of those Fabias here down under until you change your greedy price hiking.
skoda real fucked up. no new fabia vrs with extra visible body works and better engine than 2010-2014 vrs fabias. cmon skoda, make a fabia mk3 vrs petrol (no diesel) imediatly. cmon now.
I’d say this is a sign of your age! I grew up when Skodas were hateful things which were the butt of all jokes on the playground. I now am on my third Skoda (a Superb) which I chose over Audi and VW alternatives because it is a better product for the money. I could choose a nearly new Superb for less money than a 3 year old A4. Having tried both, it was a no-brainier. But, everyone has the right to choose.
Audi aren't all that know someone had nothing but problems and twice the amount on everything because it's Audi. Meanwhile I have a 2006 Skoda fabia estate no problems. But if people are still hung up on badge snobbery that's their problem.
A very superficial review. All done in bullet points.... Would have loved some on screen graphics, maybe an engine view. An actual MPG test when visiting the petrol station. Try harder on the next one will you.

VW absorbed Skoda to be a budget brand in the VW empire. Skoda now produce better, good looking cars that are still good value. What went wrong VW?
i just purchased 2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo and i love it
It depends on the price. A 0 to 60 time of 8 seconds is pretty useful in the real world.

If you want a bigger Skoda you don’t go for the Octavia, you go for the Scala. However the Scala seems to be invisible in car buyers radar
i went to the skoda dealership today and they had 10 Fabias, 10 Octavias and not a single Scala :D So it can't be on the radar if it's not there

Goodness, have we really arrived at the point where 60mph in 8 seconds is underwhelming?
I agree. This was typical hot hatch speeds back in the day.
8 seconds was a sports car a few years ago. Hell, some latest bmw 1s are much slower than this Fabia.
Interceptably effortless & informative review. Cut price VW Polo essentially
Oh.... the Aussie version comes with the Amundsen ICE unit, with SatNav built in.
who needs a built-in satnav in times of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay? They're far superior and faster and get constant updates for free
Why can't they make Fabia VRS again?

I have my 5.0 V8 for speed. In traffic in the city and out on the open road, the performance in S is perfectly fine.
30-70 times more useful in the real world.
Why would you want a built-in satnav use Apple CarPlay instead then the maps will always be up-to-date

It's a tad quicker, but much more than a tad more expensive, than the rest of the range though.
Wish skoda would bring back the performance VRS back
Amen to that.... love a vrs back.
It would be probably be nearer 30k these days.

Well, is it a Farbia or a Fabia? Otherwise brilliant review as usual.
you pronounce it Faybia? I think Faabia sounds better (my name is Fabian lol)
Solid good Car, 110 PS is okay.

They never show if it has a spare wheel….odd!
If you're only getting 35 miles per gallon you are a pretty poor driver. I get well over 40 to the gallon in my 1.5 Karoq without driving slow.
The Mk3 is 10x better than this. Especially the 1.4tdi and combi bodies. Brilliantly clever and reliable cars, never mind good looking.
As a point of reference I have the 1.5 tsi Octavia and get 48.9mpg

Well, for the price it comes with, I'd rather consider something else...
Really hope the interior red trims are optional. Not everyone likes red color.
I sat in 4 today and all of them had the red trims, so I don't think so.
I love my Skoda farrrrbia 😂
380 litre boot capacity? That's as good as a Golf......
Should be like a Fiesta Zetec S or a Sandero RS, a warm hatch. Marketing focus at the expense of driving fun.
