Wish's Original Movie Scene: Sabino, Asha and The Wishing Tree (Read Description)

  • Due to the overwhelmingly positive reception of my first deleted scene post, I've been requested to do another one, so here you go!
This scene you're about to see is another segment of Wish's Original Concept. This scene shows Asha, Valentino and her grandfather Sabino taking a guy's written wish to hang upon what's called "The Wishing Tree". (Which is a reference to Walt Disney's real life Wishing Tree he had growing up) Asha, her family and other citizens moved from Rosas to a hidden village away from Magnifico, after learning he takes people's wishes along with their life force.
During this scene, Sabino reads Asha's diary on how she wants adventure and a better life for her family, even if she has to fight for it. Sabino then tells Asha that in order to protect the people she loves, she must stop Magnifico and Amaya from stealing anymore of peoples wishes, which are part of their souls. He never got his wish granted and has been sick for years. After this scene, Sabino passed away. Giving Asha the motivation to go to Rosas to fight back against the King and Queen and save not only her family, but also the people of Rosas who are in danger. Never wanting someone to die without seeing their wish and dreams realized ever again. (DAMN) Which leads to her calling on upon a Star(boy) for help.
This entire arc was changed because the execs didn't want to have a hidden village, or people be against Magnifico in the first place. They thought it would be better if EVERYONE loved Magnifico from the start and Asha would find out his true colors later on. With that, Sabino never passes or is sick either, he just admires the king instead and is still waiting for his wish to be granted.
Anyone notice this strange obsession the execs have with making everyone love Magnifico in the movie and in real life? I mean, they clearly wanted him to be a fan favorite so everyone in the movie has to love him too, I guess.

All characters in storyboard version have so much more personality than the final version. Here, Asha's "No, I don't even know where to start" is good moment as her doubts and uncertainty at this point allows her to grow through the story. And she actually has strong connections with others instead just forcibly pulling through.

Given part of her character arc was wanting danger and excitement, her arc was interwoven with Starboy's being to learn what a wish means and what it means to be a human. That was pretty deep character dynamic they wasted.

Honestly this arc would've made a better movie.
My main reason(though there are plenty), is that this arc feels so much more fleshed out and feels like it has a story.
That's basically what the final product lacked, it could've worked if they're bothered to fleshed things out and explain things better, as well as have the writing match this arc cause the writing here feels genuine and not forced like the final version.
In order to make the audience feel a connection to the characters, you've got to put love and care into them as well as fleshing them out.
The original had more of what the final version should have had.

    • @RascalEntertainments
      @RascalEntertainments  3 месяца назад +10

I completely agree! This really did feel like a complete story, and personal one for one of the writers. Not wanting to live and die without a chance to make your dream come true yourself is a beautiful message. And Asha's drive to stop Magnifico from doing what he did to Sabino to others is a much better driving force.
Also, I think now that I'm rewatching this, I know that Asha's father died in the final version, so it looks like they had him pass instead of Sabino, even though it was bittersweet but made sense.
They never really addressed how close she was to her father, with only like two mentions and that's it. Now I know why it felt off and never fleshed out. They wrote a complete connection to Sabino, but not one for her father. So they just.... stopped talking about him.

and we get a boiling pile of mediocre garbage.

Reading your description mention about the people in charge wanting to make Magnifico a fan-favourite and thinking it'll help if everyone in the movie likes him are so frustrating. They clearly don't know what makes villains loveable/charming. They clearly never heard or cared to listen about people being sick of disney's twist villains and missing the classic types. *A charismatic villain doesn't need to be liked by everyone to somehow show that aspect to the viewers - he proves his charm by getting people who don't like him/are suspicious of him to go along with his plans, or fall right into his trap.*
At least, that's how it is for me. I love the classic Disney Villains - many characters in the movies disliked and/or distrusted them, yet they had a sort of charisma still that pulled people in and allowed the villain to use the people for their plans.
Like dammit, even Hans would've been someone I liked had we seen his manipulative side from the beginning, not as a sudden twist.

I agree! This thing backfired badly, cause either people DIDN'T seem him as a villain, or they loved him as a villain WITH HIS WIFE. The version we got shined best when he was unhinged, but they went sympathetic to irredeemable in like ten minutes and wanted us to think it was natural.

You know, I have never seen anything like this for a Disney film, where the original version of a film (which is clearly a classic in the making) has a larger fanbase then the actual film. I've argued with fellow fans of the film Raya and the Last Dragon that the original version was inferior to the final film which I personally see as an underrated film if a bit flawed.
The pacing for the original Raya is a mess, being WAAAY to fast, filled with weak dialogue and jokes that either just die on arrival or kill the mood for otherwise more moving moments. Raya is to much like other Modern Disney Protagonists with her being more humorous and quirky instead of being a cynic with a more dry sense of humor. Namaari is a joke whom I can't take seriously and frankly has little to no chemistry with Raya which is kind of a major selling point for me (Rayaari forever).
So on the Raya and the Last Dragon front I'm glad they changed it as it really stands out from other Disney films.
And on the flip side we have Kingdom of the Sun which was an entire film that was pretty much done before Disney scrapped the whole thing and replaced it with The Emperor's New Grove. And having seen a lot of KOTS I have to agree with the Executive Producers on this, it was boring and I love New Grove.
But with Wish, yeah there's no argument the original is better. I get what they were going for like making the villain loved by the people of Rosas and wanting to make Asha more of a problem solver but the problem is, it's boring.
Magnifico is boring, Asha is boring, the Wishing Star is annoying, Valentino is boring AND annoying. The Seven Teens are forgettable, I honestly keep forgetting Sabino exists and Queen Amaya is yet another example of why Princesses are cooler then Queens.
But the original version, just based on this scene alone? Man this could have been great.
Still needs some work, I think the villains are little to comedic, Star basing his base for on Sabino is... kinda icky considering he's Asha's love interest and Sabino is Asha's grandfather and in relation to that, mainly thanks to Nimona, I think Star should have a more androgynous and be implied to be gender fluid or non-binary with them taking on the appearance of a girl and boy.
Also At All Costs should be reworked as a love duet between Asha and Star like many think it was AND should be the last or second to last song of the movie, taking place before the film's climax and be an animated version of this awesome animatic by OrbitalMoonRat, go check out their channel their really good.
Given how popular the unreleased Wish is becoming (seriously do a search for Wish and any of it's main characters on Tumblr and it's mostly the original version of the film) I wonder if Disney will release the "Snyder Cut" version of Wish. If they do they should make it a 2D film (preferably using the lighting and texture effects created for the moving Klaus), with little to no CGI and a new title. Something with the word, Wish, still in there to make it clear it is a remake or a original film but have a cooler sounding title.
I mean if Disney is willing to crank out live-action remakes for over a decade surely they'd be willing to just make one 2D remake with a unmade film that's already proving to be popular.
