I’m a 30 cal for life loving mofo. In shoot 6gt in PRS cause I give 6mm credit for that sport. But I refuse to join and jump on the 6.5 needs more band wagon. 6.5 is gayer then aids
It's a nice change of pace to have a channel that isn't hyper focused on self-defense. It gets old after a while. Most of us didn't begin shooting, or procuring a firearm, with the mindset of having that firearm for self-defense. We did it because it was fun to plink, target shoot, skeet, hunt, etcetera. And just maybe because certain firearms were "cool" looking. My weakness/addiction being HK. Is being able to defend one's self a good thing? Absolutely. But it's only one aspect of the shooting sports. Just not the only one. I don't have anything custom like you, Shane and James have, as we don't have any ranges here on Cape, that would make building/having one worthwhile. But, maybe one day.🤷🤣
Thank you, that’s the point of this channel. So many tacticool channels out there and this isn’t meant to be one of them. It’s just a few guys that love precision rifles and ballistics
@@averageshot Going to be replacing crossmembers in one of my son's trucks here shortly. The last time that I did any welding, it was stick and it was in shop class in high school back in the early '80s. I bought an Ultimate 140 welder and I have rolls of .030 and .035 flux core wire. Not currently set up for gas shielding yet. Will flux core be fine for welding the new crossmember tubes back in? I read conflicting info online. I'm an "only do it once, so do it right" type of person.
What do your rifles weigh? With a Razor and ACC, steel barrel, etc. I’m assuming you’ll need to trim the fat to make weight at NRL Hunter? I ask because I’m currently re-working my setup on a 308 in an XRS chassis. I want a 24” barrel on it but that may push me over.
These scopes were offered to us at a HEAVY discount My opinion is that the vortex razor is a bit on the pricey side when you compare the quality against other similarly priced optics. If you can find them for near 2k they’re a good deal but I just don’t see them being worth near 3k when you have the Kahles and Nightforce offerings available at that price point
Your primary hit probability would be better going with a caliber like a 25 cal with wind calls half of a 308. So if your partner is calling a 8mph gun you could have setup a primary rifle with a 4mph gun. Ive shot many team sniper matches including mammoth. This 308 as a primary is going to cost you points. The key is knowing your partners wind call and the ratio your gun is compared to his. Setting up a primary with a better caliber that you do not have to aim off plate increases points. EG, if he's holding .4 off plate, you just need to hold left edge and not give away the plate incase the wind dies down... very common for that to happen
@@averageshot cost no object I bet the berger elite hunter 180 is the one to beat. I’ve had really good luck with the 169 SMK’s though and much more economical.
@@averageshot I have a 308 and it’s a great caliber but I personally would have chosen something with better ballistics and a bullet that stayed supersonic longer but to each their own.
Handicapping your primary by going with a 308 for the sake of sharing data? I wouldn’t put all my eggs in that basket. At least choose a better bullet than a 175gr SMK. Like a 185 juggernaut.
Making power factor is a huge thing that’s why me and Anthony are running 7 PRC in either seekins or Christensen in NRL.
you can make PF with a 6.5 CM

Nice job guys, congrats on the MDT sponsorship
Thanks!
Thinking this is a good strategy. Great point's made.
Congrats on the MDT.
Nice video.
Keep'em coming!
Awesome video brother
You guys have shown that distance shooting is more than shooter skill, gun or ammo quality, it also involves Calculus. Great video.
It’s fun to figure out new rifles

You guys from Maine? I think I've driven by your shop a couple of times on my way to Lewiston. I'll have to stop in some time.
Also wondering why .308? There’s so many better options is it because of factory ammo offerings?
Check out 41:08 time stamp
It explains why in great detail!
Which Mammoth event will you be attending next year, 1 or 2? I will be going to Mammoth II at Ft. Chaffee in March.
We’re going to the one in March
@@averageshot sweet, I will see you there
What ammo do they like? my .308 tends to like 175gr SMK
These are shooting the 175 SMK very well in the factory federal ammo
How are you guys liking the Vortex Gen 3 6-36? Looking to pick one up

What projectile & weight are you guys running?
175 gr Sierra matchking
Do i get bonus points for noticing your shirt was inside out?
Bonus points indeed!!!
Do you know what freebore was used ?
I’ll have to get the reamer specs from Drew McFarren at spindrift firearms but I believe it’s whatever saami spec is

What are target size at all your ranges
On average 1.5-2moa
Why 308? Just scratching my head and a bit confused?
It’s explained in the outro at the end in detail

Ok, so it is a rule thang in the Mammoth sniper challenge team requirements.
Yup the secondary shooter has to shoot 308
The primary shooter can shoot anything essentially but we chose to shoot the same

Why not run a better bullet? 169 smk, 185 juggernaut, 168 hybrid, etc. lots of bullets with way better form factor
Today was day one, factory box ammo is gonna suffice for barrel break in, we’re gonna test some different bullets with hand loads next!

Doesn’t seem to me that 308 would be the best choice if you want to be consistent out to 1,100
Seemed fine the other day with factory ammo 🤷♂️
