I live in NYC and was walking down Park Ave the other day. A women was walking towards me and I noticed her shirt was the Stryper angels shirt. I stopped her and told her that I loved her shirt and asked if she listened tl Stryper. She had no idea what I was talking about and I could tell it was a knockoff. I told her to check out the band when the time and went on my way, listening to Stryper.
I bought the THWTD on vinyl in 1986 the day it came out with the angel artwork- still on my shelf. It was also available in black for those fearful souls worried about what parents or pastor would say...
I agree and understand with everything the guys have said in the video. I just recently ordered some things from Stryper.com. But I have to tell you that It is disheartening when you see something like the face mask that is on Stryper.com which has the yellow and black stripes. But Isaiah 53:5 isn't printed under the scripture shown. I know that they can't please everyone but that does hinder me from purchasing it. I personally don't want a Bible Scripture to be just seen as some kind of a random quote and that is how it domes across to me. I also think that there are so many things they could do with merchandise to make some good money. But they just don't seem to have alot of things or creative fashionable things on their site. I think this is where you need someone who knows the fan base well and has a knack for fashion, collectables and memorabilia. I don't mean any of these things to tear them down. But hope it can be seen as a fan just trying to help. I have been a fan from the start and am grateful to God for them.God bless them all. - Ann Custer (ladystryperfan)
Love Stryper. I’ve never had the opportunity to purchase merch. Don’t live in places that there are bootleggers. I had every album up until 1998. Lost them all in a flood. Since then I haven’t gone out and bought anything. I use iTunes that’s it. But I’ve had a look at the website and there are some things there I wouldn’t mind owning. Keep rocking on Stryper.
In the Stryper Live in Lancaster (1985) - FULL SHOW video on RUclips, I threw a banner onstage which Michael Sweet & Timothy Gaines held up to display to the audience at the 25:55 mark. The banner said "Jesus Loves Stryper" in Stryper font. Think I can get that back? LOL
I'm going to have to dig out my Yellow and Black Attack t-shirt I got from that concert back in the day. I use to work concert security for many years through the 90's to 2003, and we would see bootlegg stuff all the time and all over the place. Some would be selling in the parking lots walking around with boxes of stuff. One funny time I remember seeing a kid buy a shirt then seeing him in the show, once he started sweating the artwork started smearing.
Welcome to the world of success guys! It doesn’t make it right, but here you are. No one wants to copy anything that isn’t good. And Stryper is much better than good. Good luck sincerely on the struggle to fight the knock offs.
In the 80’s I had the angel art work LP which WAS an official first run Enigma record before they went to the black album cover with just To Hell with The Devil in red.
I actually had the THWTD with the Angel artwork cassette in 1986, I wish I still had it but I thought there were so many pressed before they just went to the black cover because of the "Christian" markets not wanting to carry it
The point is that in some regions of the world the prices of original stuff (Stryper's or not) that some people rather go to to the bootleg, specially nowadays that in Brazil you need almost 6 Brazilian bucks to buy 1 dollar. So, there should be a way to license products on other countries for these people to have a chance to have the original products at a fair price on their own currency
There's companies that have a license and manufacture CDs and t-shirts, like Icarus. My Second Coming CD is from Icarus (Argentina) as well as a Burzum t-shirt. Many Ted Nugent CDs I have are from Brazilian companies (NovoDisc)
If not for those companies, we'd have to buy from Stryper's store and get fucked with the whole price of the product + shipping + whatever taxes are applied.
I just saw that with fans posting stuff on YT before the band does today, it was for The Warning that opened for you in Mexico. Love Stryper and 2 young artists that are associated with you guys that are the future of Rock N Roll. The Warning and Moriah Formica! (and P.S. Ten kicks @ss!, I know it is over a year old but I just recently picked it up on CD)
As a fan I have always bought from the band. I don’t feel guilty that I have owned copies of music prior to release. Do I end up buying a copy of the street release 100%. It’s easy to offer on Amazon because whoever has not been caught yet. This is such a endless topic that whatever band will not be able to find an answer for.
Several years ago there was a Stryoer book put out called Loud and Clear; An authorized biography. A few years later a second pressing was put out or supposedly put out with a different cover. Is the 2nd pressing legitimate? For that matter what about the 1st one? Thank you. I have the first one which is more of a black and white on the cover.
Great video! Brett when you approach Amazon about thus, do you approach the company in other countries like amazon.ca (Canada) and amazon.se (Sweden). These sites have Stryper merch and I highly doubt these are official.
Its sad that we have to debate and feel guilty objective laws. If it's copyrighted you have no right to copy it or distribute it whether or not you make money. There is no longer any reason to purchase music cause you can listen to whole albums for free on RUclips. The only way around this is the record company has their own channel and makes money per view . The lamest argument I've heard is "they dont need the money their already rich". So its right to steal from rich people? No. Stealing is stealing.
States that the yellow on bootleg merch has almost an orange colour, yet wears a t-shirt that has one of the most orange tinted Stryper logo that I have ever seen. Not trying to be mean, just found it funny. :)
RUclips is a double edged sword. The good is your music becomes worldwide and more people can discover your music and you can gain more fans. The bad is bootleg concert footage and full albums posted where artists get zero money for their art. Streaming sites like spotify barely pay artists anything, but it's something.
but what if you are on a concert that is not recorded at all by the band, and if a fan records that concert? isn't that fan just doing the band a favor and giving good publicity, if that fan post that concert which is not otherwise available? that concert would be a rarity, the only of its kind, for the fans for many years to come, maybe...? if the concert is not recorded professionally, that would be the only version available of that particular show... how could the band loose money because of that? ... or if a fan records the complete show only for his private use...? if the band did not record that concert anyway, how could that cause any loss for the band ...? (or maybe every concert is recorded by the band....?)
Some bands don't like it because phones sound like ass to begin with, but it's true, any video you wanna upload with copyrighted music, even if it's just the vocals or you alter them somewhat, it automatically gets monetized for the band or the label. On the other hand, some companies flag them and the video gets taken down.
I do think the argument to be made in a discussion about this topic, is what Michael lead it into: What is helping or hurting the band. Financially, that is. Talk like "just because something is legal doesn't mean it's right," can easily be countered by "just because something is illegal doesn't mean it is wrong." Both statements are equally true. And as Christians we certainly know that the laws of the world is not a guidance for what is right or wrong. Copyright-law can be different from country to country as well. Which makes the situation even more obscure and difficult to navigate. Making a copy of an album, for instance. In my country it is legal if it is for personal use only. In some countries even that may be against the law. There are a lot of issues, and traps to fall into, if you want to argue legalism on the subject. I'd rather go back to the basics: Does it help the band if I buy this product? If you ask that, you don't need to worry about whether it is illegal or not. Common sense is a good thing to carry with you on this.
It is hard to get Stryper cd's (the older albums) and shirts in Europe. And if you buy it outside of Europe you must pay high import taxes. If Stryper are trying to sell more thru Amazon Europe or European country's than it is easier and for a normal price. We as fans can get them easier and for a normal price and Stryper will sell more official stuff !
Yes, I totally agree in this point. $30 for a T-Shirt + at least $15 p&p to Europe + 19% tax. That's about $54 for a single shirt. I'm not surprised when people ordering bootleg shirts.
i bought to hell with the devil vinyl in the summer of 1988 and it was sealed with the angels portrait but i can't remember if it was a u.s made vinyl , i sold it in 1990 and since then i could never find anther one in that condition
Here in Europe a magazine already in 1987 claimed that the angel art of To Hell with the Devil was released in the US market at first, but Christian bookstores got upset, and then Stryper or the label caved in and made the album cover black instead. Cancel culture was already a thing back then lol That move probably lost thousands of album sales, going from an epic heavy metal cover to that generic one with just the logo.
If you don't want people to print bootleg CDs and vinyls, maybe don't give them a reason to want to? I'm not saying it's right, but I also think it's kind of silly that your fans have to spend 200 bucks for a Roxx Regime vinyl just because you don't want to make more of them. That's money that could be going to Stryper. If your vinyls sell out in hours, you might not be making enough.
Not sure how that works. Because it can be argued that you pay a tattoo artist based on their labor and materials. You're not paying for a product that Stryper offers themselves or that you can resell saying it's official merchandise.
That was what I was going to say, I just wanted to see if someone else said it first. The tattoo artist is absolutely violating copyright laws by profiting off of any intellectual property not licensed to him/her, especially a logo.
I LOVE Stryper and I know of lots of non-believers that listen to them, but honestly where I live in so CA I have NEVER seen a Stryper t-shirt except on myself. I bought mine from the store btw :) Anyway, its so rare I had one guy run up to me and go "Is that a Stryper shirt?? Keep the fire burning!!" ... just for the sake of argument, that would happen whether or not its "official merch". In other words, doesnt making Stryper more visible help the band even if you dont profit directly from it? No question in my mind about buying merch from the store, and while I'm not really getting this vibe from Michael, I think this is being a little nit-picky overall.
It helps indirectly, yes. Not much, but it can lead to other people listening to them. If that person REALLY digs the band, then he might end up buying official stuff.
I don’t agree with stealing at all being a Christian.,… But with bands of any caliber release limited additions and extremely limited additions that’s really unfair to the Fanbase. So if you have 1 million fans and you only make 1000 CDs, That’s just straight out wrong! So some diehard fans won’t be able to get that CD or that rare vinyl or that rare shirt,… So why do you think that’s cool to do because it’s not! ,,,,So I always tell people I run into friends and family and relatives or strangers don’t think that you’re less of a fan because you can’t have everything the band has out because it’s all about money! Some people don’t have the money but they’re a lot better fans than some people who have every single thing a band has out
@@mottosierra1372 This is gonna be a bit of a long repl, so please bear with me. basically what happened was Timothy Gaines was married to a young lady who he met after he left striper when they broke up the 1st time, and they moved to Nashville he was trying to help her get her career going. well her career never really took off and as a result the marriage deteriorated over time. it ended with her basically sitting on the couch drinking wine and complaining about her career not being able to take off and basically yelling at him because he did have a bit of a career. Timothy Gaines took it for as long as he could take it and finally he divorced her. well the reaction to him divorcing her because of her drinking problem and making his life miserable By the band basically meaning Michael sweet and the rest of striper was to basically shun him and eventually just throw him out of the band. The Bible says that you will know them by their fruits and as far as I'm concerned Michael sweet showed his true colors when he did what he did to Timothy Gains. It's fairly ironic that Michael sweet and the rest of the band condemned him for divorcing the lady but yet oz Fox the man who is lead guitar player for stryper divorced his wife and married a former porn star and according to Timothy Gaines he was having sex with that former porn star while he was still married to his wife.
@@simgamer313 there are several interviews where Tim says that he no longer wanted to tour with stryper because he was tired of it, he also says that in the last times he was in stryper he was not an official band member but an employee and that he preferred it So since they paid him weekly, I love stryper but just like I don't believe in pastors, priests or religions, I don't buy that religious band story either, I only believe in God
This is why I buy my Stryper merch direct from stryper.com. I want to be sure it's authentic and know I'm actually supporting the band. I also have the Stryper mask too. Haha. The only mask I can honestly say I actually like to wear. I get lots of positive comments about it at my church from my pastor. Haha.
Leaking a song is a shameless plug it probably would help the artist and not take away. With the way industry works today any free advertising is a plus....
for tatoos you gotta get God approval and the answer for that one is- Leviticus 19:28 28"'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.
Is this a business? I though the propose of this band is share the gospel and talk about Jesus. There is no doubt this guys are like false prophets just looking for the money.
LOL. This is the most stupid comment I've read so far. If they were looking for the money, they would've stopped singing about Jesus and started singing about sex, drugs and rock n' roll... THAT is where the money is, if you didn't know. Stryper has consistently brought hope to lost in this world. In stark contrast to the so-called "leaders" of the Christian churches that are - even to this day - delivering a message of condemnation.
@@IamKjotleik I dont agree with what hes saying, but there are Christian artists that give away their music (Keith Green) and even their salaries (Rich Mullins) in order to get the gospel out. Not saying they need to do the same thing, becasuse theyre making it pretty clear that they dont want anything of theirs used basically for any reason unless you ask. I honestly find it kinda strenuous to have to keep asking about this and that being authentic or not, so I would rather not buy unless I'm getting it from the store.
@@IamKjotleik Actually they did with the album "Against the Law" but the sales were so bad. So they decided to go back to Christian lyrics because is where the money is. Being in the real industry? they are not good enough for that business.
@@melaniexoxo I agree that having to ask every time is a bit weird. But given that they have made it clear that if it is licensed then it is sold at the official store, we can assume other stuff is not licensed (i.e. illegal according to current law). That seems pretty clear to me. The only problem with this seems to be with communicating this to the broad fan-base. This video is one part of that.
@@shangalumusic4201 I can only assume that you either never listened to "Against The Law" or that you've forgotten every line of lyric. ATL is a good Hard Rock album with a positive message. I don't know what kind of business you mean Stryper is not good enough to be in. If you mean the music business, you are positively wrong. The quality of their latest recordings are better than 99% of what you find among secular bands/artists at the moment. And were sales really bad for "Against The Law?" I don't know. All I know is that is a superior album to the predecessor (In God We Trust). They got rid of the poor pop-quality sound, for one thing. Well. Thanks for the conversation. The only thing I will agree with you on is that we disagree on the matter.
Si vas a shows con asientos numerados, podés comprar tranqui.

I will now start buying my stryper products on stryper.com
no more amazon because i want to support stryper
Some people don’t have the money but they’re a lot better fans than some people who have every single thing a band has out
Also please restock your trucker hats!
BRASIL !!!
The colors on the shirt you are wearing looks like orange and black.... Doesn't look yellow at all....

C'mon Stryper fans only buy from Stryper.com.
Considering what happened to Tim Gaines and what Michael Sweet did to him. I say any attempt to screw that fake stryper group is justified. 😠
What he did to him?
I sense some Canadian from Brett, eh?
Can I say the name stryper legally?
This is why I buy my Stryper merch direct from stryper.com. I want to be sure it's authentic and know I'm actually supporting the band. I also have the Stryper mask too. Haha. The only mask I can honestly say I actually like to wear. I get lots of positive comments about it at my church from my pastor. Haha.
Laughing about wearing a symbol of oppression. Nice.
Just been on Amazon.co.uk - what is real and not? I think a lot are fakes
!!! !!! !!!
😁
Leaking a song is a shameless plug it probably would help the artist and not take away. With the way industry works today any free advertising is a plus....
TRAXTER...'''ROCK AND RACE''.....yep i made it and people stole it...so sad..
Hey Bret ? You're t-shirt iß a copy
Jos nemen gan
Ellen Page had no right wearing that shirt. Jus’ sayin’....
New Age! Watch what you get into
Good luck with inviting Jeff Bezos to a Stryper concert. Sorry, don’t mean to sound negative but I can’t stand that guy let alone Amazon.
for tatoos you gotta get God approval and the answer for that one is- Leviticus 19:28 28"'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.
Leviticus was written to Jews...we are NOT under the law, we are under grace
Are you eating kosher? Keeping the Jewish Shabbat, too?
I reach out you reach out we reach out today.
Good. I wait for love from you 💝💖
