This store was, in one word...FABULOUS! I first went there in 2007, and actually took videos' of it to show friends back in WISCONSIN how great retailing could be. I think I spend 3 hours or more in the store, spent a few dollars, and kept thinking how lucky Chicago was to have this. Now, its gone. In 2022, it was announced that the site will temporarily house a casino while the $1.7B Bally's Casino is under construction nearby.
They are concerned about safety and traffic, because the area was never meant for the kind of traffic that a casino will generate for the area.
That store looks amazing it’s sad to see it go and it may go away

Time to reign in the dough while Bloomingdales and Macy's leave the city itself and staying in the suburbs
It’s like a dagger to the heart seeing these beautiful, architectural gems to just being going away! Macy’s ruins everything they touch I swear! If they LAY ONE FINGER on state street I’m done! I’m still salty about the Fields store at Northbrook being closed!
If state street closes there will be protests. That building has meant so much to people for so long they would make a huge mistake to shut it down.
Lost Departments the only reason I say that is because of the potential of water tower closing! I adore both of those Fields stores!

I visited this store in either January or February 2020, and one of the employees told me this closing would happen in June 2020. Thanks for mentioning the closing was delayed to September 2020, since now I think I might pay this store one last visit! Also, that employee told me the Bloomingdale's furniture store here, was being moved into a portion of their 900 N. Michigan mall store. BTW, I have to say the employees here were surprisingly very nice, and among the nicest I'd ever encountered at any Bloomingdale's and/or Macy's store.
I do wonder which store, may replace Bloomingdale's Furniture Gallery?

If you hadn't seen, it's currently being turned into a casino and the developers have been tasked with continuing to protect and preservation of all the historically relevant details that remain. Your video can help insure that stewardship is carried out dutifully!

Beautiful store, seems so big for just homewares. I can see a clothing retailer take on this store as it's full of uniqueness.
The basement was most likely used by the theatre as set storage, changing rooms for performers and part of it may have been an orchestra pit in front of the stage area.
Beautiful building! I think the Chicago Architecture Center does tours there at times. It would be a shame if it got demolished.
Demolition isnt even a option here. Its a protected landmark.
This is a very beautiful Bloomingdales Store! Love the architecture here! Sucks to see this store going away.
