I realize that the Shadowhunters have this weird thing against using mundane technology but a simple DNA test would have solved about 90% of Jace and Clary’s problems. And made the series about three books shorter.
They have angel blood, so DNA results would be interesting.

Yeah, friends to best friends to lovers is a sweet progression, if it works out. But I’ve seen too many guys giving it the “oh my god, I acted like her friend for years and now she’s just slutting about with some guy, as if she’s not *mine*?” to find that behaviour cute or romantic, fictional or otherwise.
I kinda had this moment with a lot of my guy friends and it actually does burn.
I used to have a lot of guy friends and would be friends with them for years and share secrets with them, then at one point or another a lot of them ended up confessing they were interested in me and after declining their feelings a few times they all kinda stopped talking to me.
Now that I’m in a relationship of 5 years, none of my old guy friends talk to me at all. I recently had one guy check in and tell me I could always reach out to him, and then asked about my relationship. When I said my boyfriend and I were going great and went on to ask him about his life, I never got a reply.
If I was in Clary’s position and had no girl friends to rely on I would have crumbled.
The fact that Clary has 3 love interests and they are:
1) the best friend she grew up with, whom she sees as a brother
2) her adopted brother, with whom she actually ends up with
3) her actual brother
Like that's a bit sus 😂

Clary being relieved that she hasn't been committing incest this whole time, only to instantly be told she in fact has still accidentally done the incest anyway, followed by Jace learning the truth about said not-incest because Sebastian wanted to clarify that he was not having an incestous relations with his father, but actually his sister which now makes it so Jace is in love with his sort of adoptive sister instead of blood sister, all while his adoptive brother from a different family is in love with him is so genuinely insane like.
to be fair, the parabatai bind is different than siblinghood; romance between parabatai is considered taboo, but not in a way that's necessarily healthy (the way it's healthy for incest to be taboo) - she actually explores this (parabatai romance) in one of the other shadowhunter series
Alex isn’t really in love with Jace so much as using Jace as a safe person to be in love with so he doesn’t have to find 6:33 a real love interest

I read these books ONCE in around 2014. I am surprised by how little I remember about the demon/shadowhunter plot, but how much I remember about the teenage drama, cringey one liners and overall emotional chaos.
My friend group split into parabatai pairs, we drew runes on our hands, we argued about shipping, and our names in the group chat were all characters from the mortal instruments universe for a hot minute. I barely remember any of the plot though.

Blood is never kosher tho, it’s part of the horror and contradictions of being a jewish vampire, I don’t remember if that’s explicit in the books but I’m sure it was intentional since cassandra clare is jewish herself

I think it would not work because clary(technically) can't put runes on anybody but a shadowhunter because It would hurt them and even kill them

I loooove the show on Netflix but it's so incredibly inaccurate to the books they kind of feel like alternative universes 😂😂 both are still so fun and chaotic tho 10/10 would recommend
the Netflix drama essentially took the characters some vague concepts from the book and ran with it and did their own thing still very entertaining

EDIT: Also my own out theory (aside from the fact that Cassie just hadn’t fully fleshed out parabatai) is that Alec’s unrequited crush on Jace hampered their bond because they weren’t on the same page. Parabatai are supposed to be in lock step, so when one of them is keeping this big secret from the other one, and their feelings for each other are mismatched, I could see that interfering with the soul binding a bit.

Having not read these books in close to 10 years the amount of plot/lore I remembered SHOCKED me

My honest hot take opinion here while I would enjoy another video I'd stop at the first trilogy your not missing out. The last two additions are just mediocre and forgettable and the final book in the saga is just bad. Its like a transformer movie but make it ya urban fantasy romance book.
Love these so much! ACOTAR was brilliant and hilarious, but this was even better. Am about to start reading Crescent City just so I can get the full effect of watching that one too. Can't imagine how much work goes into these - thank you.

I absolutely love your plot recaps! I've read the books 5+ times. I knew that Jace and Clary weren’t siblings since book 1, and waiting for the characters to realize it was pure torture! Knowing how evil Valentine was why did they believe him for even 5 minutes? 😂😂😂 also hearing the story explained outloud made me realize just how wild this series was.
So excited for this one. Please keep doing these deep dive plot summaries! I love them and don't even care what book(s) you cover because I just know it'll be entertaining. 😂😂😂

I cannot express to you how much I enjoy these plot recap videos. I ate them all up and your ability to summarize plots but also make me laugh out loud is truly amazing.
