Buyer beware: I bought one of these because the Razer staff at EVO claimed that the Kitsune was compatible with Keychron low-profile optical switches, which is a claim that's also repeated in this video. They do work (as in, the switches will actuate), but I've tested it extensively with both Keychron whites and browns, and I experienced issues with the switches not resetting consistently. The keycaps on this controller use a weird sort of captured design to minimize wobble and rattling. When you press down on a button particularly hard and/or on the edge of the button, the keycap can get jammed, resulting in the switch being held down. You have to kind of smack the button again to get it to release. This issue doesn't occur with the stock Razer switches, but it consistently occurs with the Keychrons. I think it's due to some minute difference in the geometry of the stem. I ended up swapping Kailh Choc pink springs into the Razer red switches for a lighter actuation force, and the Kitsune is now my favorite leverless controller. No more reset issues. So, while the Kitsune does have hot swap sockets and nominally supports third party switches... yeah, it kind of actually doesn't. Clearly Razer never really tested this claim, nor has any reviewer who's repeating this claim.
Converted from Arcade stick to the Leverless kitsune 4 weeks ago. 1st session: I could barely do anything 2nd: had the fundementals down 3rd: starting to learn bugger combos 4th: got bigger combos down 5th: feeling overall pretty comfortable with it Fast forward to now… I feel very comfortable and Im able to do certain things that I had a difficult time with on arcade stick. A couple things are still slightly difficult to do like double hadoken facing the left and instant over head down kicks with chun li. Those two things I had down pat on stick. Im almost there though… I tried my stick a few days ago just to see what it feels like and its night and day difference at this point. Stick feels restrictive now and it requires significantly more effort to do things like crouching medium kick to drive rush combo which an extremely important combo. Overall Im 95% satisfied with my kitsune. My only gripe is that it doesnt have lit up buttons so I can see them in the dark

Super glad you at least mention how much of a pain finding a leverless controller is, availability is a huge plus for the Kitsune imo. I just got into SF6, I play mostly PC games otherwise so i started on keyboard then decided I wanted to try leverless. The process of cycling through a dozen random websites and etsy shops, seeing they're literally all sold out, then falling down a rabbit hole of buying a board/buttons/casing (then worrying about system compatibility) and making your own leverless is just a huge turn off to actually getting one. Then I saw the Kitsune, it had just released. just pressed "buy now" and it got here a week later. Sunday I ordered one from Amazon. It said it was out of stock this morning. Cancel the order and I ordered directly from Razer. Hopefully I can get before the weekend.
I doubt there will be a clear top. Razer provides a template for a vinyl skin to cover the top, so if you want art that's their intended method. In fact, the Chun Li and Cammy special editions are actually just normal Kitsunes, but with vinyl skins pre-applied.
@@frumiousgaming sorry but if I did sell or give it away it would be to a friend of mine. But im going hang on to it for a back up. theres some really cheap but still good options out there.
Just got the SF6 Chun Li Kitsune for my PS5 ...but I also have a Xbox Series X and a Brook Wingman XB2... Wasn't sure if it would work, especially with Xbox cracking down and supposedly only allowing licensed controllers on the Series consoles (as of Nov '23 I think it was?)... Flip the Kitsune to PC mode and with the Wingman it works on the Series X! Total bonus!! (Appropriate given that's where my copy of SF6 actually is!) Not only that but also on Xbox 360 and OG Xbox tested fine. (Can't help feeling there's going to be a catch with the Xbox Series - like Xbox/Microsoft will close whatever the loop-hole is at some point ...will just have to see if it carries on working okay as is. Maybe Brook issues a new Wingman in the future with an Xbox licenced chip in it, or such like)
@@Ejp23_ Haven't used it in a while, but did just check - still seems fine on XSX with Wingman; all buttons inc. menu and nav all working as you'd expect. As far as input lag - I'm a bit of casual fighting gamer if I'm honest - but, did just run a test with Tekken 8 demo running parallel on PS5 and XSX, hot-swapping between them... Hard to tell for sure, but maybe did seem/feel a bit snappier connected direct on the PS5 - so perhaps there is a little lag introduced with the Wingman on the Xbox, but not drastic.
i do hope razer come up with a budget option paying more than 200$ for a hitbox is just not for your average person who barely even have enough for a dlc fighter
I have the kitsune and the haute t13 and imo for $70 the t13 is just way better value. The kitsune has nice features like quieter buttons and the non slip pad on the bottom it also looks more premium but I don’t think those things is worth 200+ extra unless you’re only playing on PS5. If you can find it on sale or bought second hand maybe you can justify the purchase. Hope this helps someone if they’re on the fence.
i got the chun li flavor, my first leverless. i have been using stick for my whole life and this is SO weird to adapt to. i bought it for tekken 8 but have been playing sf6 on it. it’s strange having to learn a full new input method AND character at the same time, as i play grapplers only and i can’t imagine that with a leverless. really premium quality though, just wish the design was printed on and not a sticker.
I grew up with Arcade controllers (80's to mid 90's), so I like it more than every other controller on the market, I would like to get one to play a game which requires all the buttons that a regular console controller has, stick, d-pad, and all the others. Is there an Arcade stick controller which has it?
Great review Nihongo, you are one of the most remarkable content creators that fully explains the ins and outs of the sticks, also, which game shows up at 0:16 seconds? It looks interesting.
I would love to see you check out some of the leverless designs Mavercade is experimenting with utilizing extra buttons specifically the KeebFighter 03 and KeebBrawler 04
definitely been waiting on this review. ive seen others on the hitbox, but its from some people that either dont really play fighters or arent really all that passionate about these types of controllers, so insight from them was rather limited. im on the market for a hitbox and im not too fussed about the price, though i also want to try it out and see if its the control scheme for me. I managed to hit platinum in SF6 which isnt high but as my first fighting game im taking seriously it felt like an accomplishment, using the Victrix pro bfg. i plan to try a hitbox with SF6, and Tekken 8, and wanted something for PS5/PC. So thanks for the review man, this could be the one i grab
This looks great for desk play, but how is it for lap play? I'm concerned that it might not be wide enough for lap play if you're not keeping your legs tightly together.
I'm an average sized person. 5' 10", 165lb. I find that it is a little too narrow. I wish it were like 4 or 5 inches wider. Having said that it's not a huge issue, but you have to sit with your legs straight in front of you.
@@TheLegendOfTerry I'm 6'4", 250 lbs., so it sounds like it would be worse for me. I appreciate the insight. I think I'll go for the Hit Box instead. It's available on Amazon now and it's one of the widest all-button arcade sticks on the market. The only downside is that you need a Brook Wingman FGC for PS5 compatibility, but I already have one of those.
Tried many leverless controllers, ended up using the one I crafted from a shoebox. The softest surface + custom button placing. Yes, it doesnt look good, tho, It doesn't injure my wrists and fingers that much. Oh yes, it is also cheap af and replacement is always available.
my left wrist has been giving me some guff lately, so I've been planning on getting a leverless controller for a while. Ordered the bits for 5 flatbox rev 5s a while back, still waiting on the actual RP2040-Zero controllers and the tiny tac switches. if it works out well for me, I've got my eyes on the kitsune
I think it's important to warn consumers that Razer has a long history of overcharging for inferior build quality. I've had multiple of their controllers, keyboards and mice over the years and I've always been disappointed by how quickly their buttons wear out in comparison to other brands with cheaper prices. The only product I ever had from them that I was satisfied with was the special edition clear diamondback mouse from yeeeaaarrrsss ago. It lasted for several years with no real issues. You are paying for a logo and RGB lighting.... not top notch quality.
If you press both down and up at the same time, up takes priority and the down input disappears. The CPT rules now require that up+down results in a neutral input instead.
Have you tried playing for an extended time with any other switches, including other razor optical low profiles? My caps always end up tilting back-and-forth or sticking eventually just curious if you have a trick to stop that from happening
I played with a mixture of the Razer switches, keychron blue, brown and red. I didn’t notice any key cap sticking but maybe I’ll stress test it to see if I can make it happen. Thanks for mentioning it!
The ONLY thing is that it is not wide enough to sit comfortably on my lap. ALL of these low profile leverless controllers have the same issue, and it doesn't seem like there is a good option for people like myself. The closest thing is the "BOXX" for Smash, which has more buttons than I need and can only hook up to PC and N64.
Hey NihongoGamer have you ever considered doing commentary? You have a very good voice and tons of knowledge about multiple fighting games. I'd love to see you doing that!
does anyone have the same issue, that this controller is only working, when i connect it AFTER i launched steam? when i bootup windows with it, it doesn't even have the lighting on.
There was a time when I thought that I would never switch to leverless, especially as the Brooks FGC adapter resurrected my old Hori FS3 from the dead. However, after trying and failing to execute the EWGF move on Tekken 8 over Christmas, I decided to purchase the Razer Kitsune. It will be delivered tomorrow, so I can't yet say whether it's the right decision or not, but in theory, an all-button controller will be more precise and allow me to execute the EWGF more consistently. I'm looking forward to experimenting with it. 🙏
@@Shazasterforever1 One of the best purchases I have ever made. I still struggle with hitting EWGF consistently, but that's a skill issue, as I haven't used a Mishima in a while. Leverless feels so good; I just can't go back to stick. 👍

well it's the same layout as the snackbox, so it's pretty much cant But, I play muse dash with my kitsune, since the game layout buttons is 3-3, which is perfect
If you're on PC yeah it should work no problem If you're on PS5, it may have the same limitation as other fightsticks, I haven't heard of any current fightsticks that work with other games on PS5

Why would I want to jump with my right thumb? when my left is perfectly free and open. All the hitbox design does is make it harder to flat finger LP+LK while dodging the up input. Companies gotta stop copying that layout.

Only complaint is I hope they give us a clear top case we can buy so we can add artwork in the future. Outside that's it's amazing in every way feels freaking great!
Can I have your hit box
@@frumiousgaming sorry but if I did sell or give it away it would be to a friend of mine. But im going hang on to it for a back up. theres some really cheap but still good options out there.
i still dont get how you hit diagonal with one of these . wish there were under $75 one i can try for ps5
(Appropriate given that's where my copy of SF6 actually is!)
Not only that but also on Xbox 360 and OG Xbox tested fine.
(Can't help feeling there's going to be a catch with the Xbox Series - like Xbox/Microsoft will close whatever the loop-hole is at some point ...will just have to see if it carries on working okay as is.
Maybe Brook issues a new Wingman in the future with an Xbox licenced chip in it, or such like)
Does it still work and if so? How’s the lag input with the converter?
Hope this helps someone if they’re on the fence.
i got the chun li flavor, my first leverless. i have been using stick for my whole life and this is SO weird to adapt to. i bought it for tekken 8 but have been playing sf6 on it. it’s strange having to learn a full new input method AND character at the same time, as i play grapplers only and i can’t imagine that with a leverless. really premium quality though, just wish the design was printed on and not a sticker.
the second I saw you playing granblue I was sold, this is exactly what I was looking for lmao
Amazing review! I picked one up and I absolutely love it. I thought I was going crazy with the button spacing hahaha. Glad I wasn’t wrong about it.
I grew up with Arcade controllers (80's to mid 90's), so I like it more than every other controller on the market, I would like to get one to play a game which requires all the buttons that a regular console controller has, stick, d-pad, and all the others. Is there an Arcade stick controller which has it?
Thanks for this review. You've convinced me to purchase the Haute 42 M16+
Great review Nihongo, you are one of the most remarkable content creators that fully explains the ins and outs of the sticks, also, which game shows up at 0:16 seconds? It looks interesting.
Granblue Fantasy Versus
Compare to Victrix pro fs-12, which one do you prefer
Great video production Nihongo !
Thanks I appreciate you noticed!
Are the punk workshop keycaps that are usable all one size? Or would you need a 30mm for the jump button?
Would love to know this too
Found you from HBomberGuy! Can't believe I've never heard of you before as I've been playing fighting games for a bit!
300 bucks for a key board with less buttons is kinda crazy.
which key caps could you switch these with? thanks
I would love to see you check out some of the leverless designs Mavercade is experimenting with utilizing extra buttons specifically the KeebFighter 03 and KeebBrawler 04
I get mine today.... soo excited...
One of the best reviews I ever seen🎯…! Thank you 🤝 💯
definitely been waiting on this review. ive seen others on the hitbox, but its from some people that either dont really play fighters or arent really all that passionate about these types of controllers, so insight from them was rather limited. im on the market for a hitbox and im not too fussed about the price, though i also want to try it out and see if its the control scheme for me.
Ir the price is about 100 usd lower than de victrix leverless wich one should i get?
I wonder if Razer would make an Xbox version of The Kitsune since we can't use Hitboxes and Cross-ups on any Xbox consoles?
No one plays the Xbox these days so your chances aren't zero but it'll take awhile
I was gonna get this as my first leverless and then I saw PS5/PC only.. and I have an Xbox.. ugh the struggles
This looks great for desk play, but how is it for lap play? I'm concerned that it might not be wide enough for lap play if you're not keeping your legs tightly together.
I play on my lap and it’s perfect. I actually find the snackbox micro to not fit on my legs well. 😊
It’s great that the most optimal controller also happens to be the easiest to DIY build
Great review. I’m tempted to get the Chun Li version. I had the Mad Catz Chun Li fight stick back in the day!
The MC Chun Li stick looked so good
This is or Victrix Pro FS-12?
which one is better between the pantera stick and the tes2 + see the tes +??
my left wrist has been giving me some guff lately, so I've been planning on getting a leverless controller for a while.
Ordered the bits for 5 flatbox rev 5s a while back, still waiting on the actual RP2040-Zero controllers and the tiny tac switches.
if it works out well for me, I've got my eyes on the kitsune
Amazon been on backorder for weeks now 😅 so much for availability
lol welp
Razer website still has them. I’m waiting for my Amazon preorder, since returns are easier on Amazon if I end up with a lemon.
@@busterswordslash same with expensive equipment i rather deal with amazon when it comes to issues on arrival
I got it with no hassle from gamestop about a month ago.
W ulil clip, I’m trying to get into fgs but I cant decide on either getting a leverless, stick or a controller
Do you have to do anything on the Razer app for the Kitsune?
Don't know if it has happened to anyone else but I had to get a new one because my right button would stick and I couldn't fix it
Just had this same issue with both left and right button. Did your new one fix the issues? I just went through support for the replacment
I just wish they make the reverse layout. The optical tech means you can't reverse the button layout by yourself :(
Is it compatible with Xbox series X? I have a brook wingman xb 2 but not sure if it supports the kitsune.
What do you mean by thumb jump priority?
If you press both down and up at the same time, up takes priority and the down input disappears. The CPT rules now require that up+down results in a neutral input instead.
How well does it work on PC?
I’d love to do commentary but I’d need to spend longer collecting more in depth knowledge and getting some experience doing it.
Off topic but what's the puzzle game shown at 0:45 ?
does anyone have the same issue, that this controller is only working, when i connect it AFTER i launched steam? when i bootup windows with it, it doesn't even have the lighting on.
How did your purchase go? Are you able to do EWGF? Or still struggling?
@@Shazasterforever1 One of the best purchases I have ever made. I still struggle with hitting EWGF consistently, but that's a skill issue, as I haven't used a Mishima in a while. Leverless feels so good; I just can't go back to stick. 👍
@@shutterant I think its a great leverless. I am still trying to learn the proper way to do EWGF. I've tried the shortcut version. But I am thinking of trying the regular way. Even though its gonna be a bit harder.
@@Shazasterforever1 Learning leverless is a surprising strain on the brain (and the left-hand ring finger)! Definitely recommend learning the proper way first. Take your time, and good luck! 👍
I've bought an RTU mini hitbox for 90 $ and a Wingman FGC. SOCD profile switching + a little LCD screen + Cherry MX switches + gamerfinger cap. Really happy with this. I'll considerbti buy a snackbox or this Kitsune if the prices are lower
Should I buy this over the OG hitbox for my first leverless controller? I wanna try out a new controller but $250+ is a big investment for something I’m completely new to
If you have the money do it.
what is thumb jump priority? Im new to all button controllers idk what that means.
Hello, how can I remove the keycaps easily? @6:40
What are the games shown off here? Some of them look really intrresting
I should really put labels on the video or a game list in the desc one of these days.
0:40 Tekken 8
0:42 Touhou 15.5 - Antinomy of Common Flowers
0:45 Panel de Pon
0:47 Dead or Alive 6
1:45 Street Fighter 5
1:56 and 4:53 Granblue Fantasy Versus
3:03 Super Mario Bros.
3:08 Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition
3:12 and 10:20 Street Fighter 6
5:17 Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] (yes, that's the actual name)
Please try the Haute42 T16/T13 and make a comparison video. It's a complete bargain in comparison to this. Similar slim design and similar low profile switches for 1/3 of the price.
It would be a great controller if it wasn't so overpriced.
Does anyone know which keycaps fit the kitsune from punk workshop? The 24mm or the 30mm im new to this kinda of stuff
Hori Fighting Stick Alpha or razer kitsune?
How do we connect this controller to PC having trouble having both this and my keyboard at the same time
What is thumb jump priority?
Now I'm curious if my street fighter 4 fight stick will work on the ps5
I come from the future and I can tell you almost all the major tournaments run on ps5, EVO, Kumite and World Cup included so yeah add them to the list at 9:02, "Switching to pc would open up for huge sponsorship opportunities" not as huge as Sony bro lol.
The socd cleaning is a problem… Hope they fulfill their promise on that firmware update.
What is the socd cleaning
Been playing tekken 7 loving this fight pad. Can’t wait for tekken 8
Nihongo will this work with another games like Metal Slug?
Can you give it a try outside fighting games?
I have SnackBox Micro, and I know it cannot play outside fighting games.
well it's the same layout as the snackbox, so it's pretty much cant
But, I play muse dash with my kitsune, since the game layout buttons is 3-3, which is perfect
oh, and tetris. God it works way too well with tetris
THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! yes! I stopped playing Tetris 99 out of frustration with joycon and pro controller d-pad.
@@DoubleD96203
If you're on PC yeah it should work no problem
If you're on PS5, it may have the same limitation as other fightsticks, I haven't heard of any current fightsticks that work with other games on PS5
@@raydeh96 correction: "ps4 fightsticks" dont work on other ps5 games. The ps5 sticks works like a normal ds5
been thinking bout buying this or the hit box variant
Honestly, if Modern controls are allowed in tournaments, I’m not gonna clean my UP + DOWN SOCD
I don't like razer at all but this looks super clean
Do they make one for Xbox?
I was wondering if I have to download an update using my pc or if I can just use the Kitsune right away out of the box, thanks.
Please, ask someone very important question. Is it compatible with Steam Deck?
Hi, today i did L3 shortcut on fightstick, the problem is i dont know how i did, i was wondering if u can give me that information pls? Like 3 & 4 = L1...1 & 3 = L2...2 & 4 = R1... ?? = L3...
I just use the default shortcuts. On pad I set a back button to be R3 and use Lk+Mk to make Ken’s combos easier
why don't update a new arcade stick ,Razer?
Why would I want to jump with my right thumb? when my left is perfectly free and open. All the hitbox design does is make it harder to flat finger LP+LK while dodging the up input. Companies gotta stop copying that layout.
what’s the anime fighter in the video? looks cool
