I’ve combed out locs many times, using many different methods. The best method I’ve found is saturate the dry loc with Vaseline, and gently comb with a fine tooth metal comb. The loc practically slides out, and you get less breakage, also your hands aren’t numb like they are when you use water and conditioner. I combed my daughters locs out with this method and she ended up with healthy tailbone length hair! Give this method a try and see if it works for you!

Locs are for life. These young individuals don’t know how to commit, they are very uneducated about locs and the journey, they also begin thinking their hair will look like the pictures they saved . If you don’t start the journey with your own look and over thinking it and being a product junkies then you will not love or enjoy locs. It takes patience and understanding, and commitment.

@@redlocculturetalk a lot of assumptions being made over hair. 😂 Some people comb their locs out simply because they want a different look. I change my hair because I don’t want to look back at my photos over the span of 10+ years and look exactly the same. 😂 never testing my limits to see what other styles I can pull off. NOTHING is permanent especially hair. You can change it at any time or go back to it. One girl said she simply didn’t like being mistaken as a boy…the second one was a REALLY young child maybe 4 years old. His parent probably gave him locs from birth and he wants to see his real hair for the first time ever since locs weren’t his choice. People really OVERTHINK hair this is obsession!! You don’t have a “lack of commitment” problem simply n for changing ur hair and it doesn’t mean your just too young and immature. Stop overthinking it’s JUST HAIR.

I combed my locs out in 2 weeks. I had 132 locs for 1.5 years. I used a rattail comb and a safety pin for tiny knots, conditioner water, and a thick oils at the roots to get the lint out at the roots. I actually retained a ton of hair. It was ridiculous lol. I certainly understand the difference. I started locs for this very reason. As an umpire I was outside a lot and very active so there was no use in going to a salon or relaxing my hair every day. I’m on my second set going on three years now and I don’t have to spend so much time with my semi free form. I do self maintenance but I just don’t twist my locs. I prefer to crotchet them. I combined them into eight wicks and am growing back my shaved sides. I can style them up or down. It’s great!

Hair is NOT a “living organism”. That’s why you can cut or trim it with absolutely NO pain.
Also you are correct when you say locs, Not dread locs. There’s nothing dreadful about our hair. So I am respectfully asking you all to stop saying dred, or dread locs. I am aware I can’t make you do anything, but it’s nice if you understand what I am saying. Thanks 🙏🏾

@ how can you tell me “ain’t nothing wrong” with it? That’s your opinion. There is NOTHING dreadful about OUR hair. You need to call things as they are. Perhaps yours is. And are you even Black? If not then you TRULY don’t need to be saying ANYTHING. A real Black person is not going to insist that their hair is “dreadful” once they understand that they should not be calling it dreadful. So please don’t tell me there’s nothing wrong. We have enough negativity spoken over us. Don’t need anymore.

I’ve done it many times as well. The best, IMO is to use a dentist pick type tool to “untwist” the hair. Usually, it opens up the lox and you’ll even find the bud intact ( well In my experience). Then , I comb each strand gently. I feel the constant combing is harsh for my stands.

It took me three months to comb out my locs. I had them for 15 years and I did them picking them out but combing once it was separated. I used some conditioner and water, a pick and comb. Once my curl pattern started to come back it shortened up a bit and it did and does try to loc back up still. It’s nice to have my natural hair again though.

I’ve had my locs now for 6 and a half years and I’ve grown to love them a lot. It started off as a self conscious thing because I was embarrassed by the sudden appearance of the scalp acne but now I can’t really imagine myself without them. I do wonder about the water. I have mostly straight hair, but the shafts are fine and prone to drying and breakage. I don't generally brush my hair wet, and I'm very gentle if I do, because it stretches, and I feel that it damages it. If I have to detangle wet hair, I use my fingers. And I certainly don't brush it damp or partially wet, that's the worst of all, it sticks to itself like velcro. No chance of detangling in that state. So for brushing out locks, I would have guessed that dry hair with a generous amount of some sort of oil or leave-in conditioner would have been better than spraying it with water. Does that not apply with kinky/curly hair, does it behave differently?

FAN QUESTION: I just started my locks about a month and half ago. And following your videos I was able to get my very long straight hair to lock up beautifully. I wasn't happy with my sections, so I went through combing them out 2x before I was happy and ready to add my extensions. Thank you for your help. I did use gel the first time. But my husband said he didn't like the smell. I mixed coconut oil and lavender oil and water in a spray bottle and spray it to my root every night. Do I need to be using anything else?

Just having 2 strand twists or some other protective style is fairly low maintenance as well. And you have a bit more versatility

I’m taking mine out. After 2 years. I have a Mohawk and it’s hard to get a cut and retwisted. It comes out to 140. When I had my Afro it was easier to maintain. I look crazy right now cause I haven’t had a twist in almost 2 months and I still have to wait 3 more weeks to get my locs done. Smh

I think about it a good bit, I miss being able to run my fingers through my hair, and full washing my hair.
But I don’t wanna comb out my locks because I want my hair to stay long and I know ima lose length.
I don’t want to have to trim or cut my hair to match the length on my sides. I got a couple more years to go I’d say. I just think about it a lot I don’t really wanna do it but I’d like to see what I look like with my hair this long

Why would the first girl comb out their locs because some people thought they were a boy? If I had a nickle for every time people thought I was a girl bc my long hair... Sheesh. People care too much. IF you are wearing jeans and a baggy shirt and locs from behind, I bet some people would think you were a dude. But if you were wearing a cut sweater and leggings, near no one will think you were a guy from behind... Black guys with long curly hair ("natural hair") are often mistaken for women because the style is simply MORE POPULAR with women... To cut off all that hard work that you despratly grew because the opinions (mistakes!) of others on your gender... shm. Why is this so important to people? Its cool to be yourself!

And it’s cool not to judge people for what they choose to do with their own bodies and you don’t know what she typically wears so you cant assume her clothing is the reason she gets mistaken as a boy

    • @studid55
      @studid55 2 года назад

@@n0thum4n Sure it's "not cool" but I'm not trying to be cool, I am spitting facts. The facts are that she just hard conformed and people who act like such need to know that they should not take other opinions so seriously. That is all I am trying to say. And I do know what she typically wears out because she vlogs. In her vlogs, she dresses exactly like I said she did. Just look through her videos. Another reason, other than the clothes, that she might have been mistaken as a boy could be that in US black culture, men has dreads at like 3x the rate of females. Walk around Atlant, or LA, and look. Easier than that, look at black music videos.
