John Darnielle knows so much about music and history, literature, etc. That's why is his such an amazing songwriter.
Was happy to see John's take on the new Panic stuff...I definitely think it's the weakest record of the new "just Brendon" era by a significant margin, and that line in High Hopes also bothered me.

He is really a gem, he also makes what is in my mind the best music out there.

What a genuinely delightful person
He has a great personality. If you haven't listened to any Mountain Goats albums, I recommend starting with The Sunset Tree.
He really is an incredibly sweet, genuinely kind person. He went through major hell as a kid/teen (abuse and drug addiction) and while I know a lot of people aren't able to break out of the cycle, he managed. It took work and therapy, but goddamn, he really turned into a delightful person (and an F'in amazing artist as well).
Now I wanna hear the Mountain Goats cover Head Like a Hole. That would be godly.

but like-can anyone think of a major 7 in Street Fighter Mas? unless he means the second chord in the progression, but that doesn't seem super clear. the melody doesn't hit the 7 of the chord, and when things get quiet enough to hear the pianist playing it it's more of a lydian voicing

As someone who was a HUGE NIN fan for a really long time (and still likes some of their stuff)... I gotta agree with you. It sounds terrible. NIN has become majorly hit or miss over the years (to me at least) and when they miss, god, they miss HARD.
