Interesting project! I had a GP LDV many years ago on a stock length '68 pan. Looking at yours, I don't think it's a '71. Many buggies were given new plates when they were built, and as this is a short rear axle, linkpin front car, its definitely earlier than 1971. Worth checking the chassis number against the lists on The Samba, make sure you don't get delays by ordering the wrong parts!
As for front discs on a buggy, I wouldn't! Mine locked the front wheels far too easily even with drums as there's so little weight over the front wheels - in my drag Beetle I put rear wheel cylinders in the front brakes and front cylinders in the back to change the bias. Worked OK slowing from 100+mph at The Pod!

Very good point and well spotted it is actually an earlier pan the same been modified. We explain this in the latest episode.
We are definitely gonna need all the breaking we can get with the plan of an engine conversion.
Thats already well underway. This buggy will be like no other.👍🤙

@@surreyautoworks I look forward to it! I've got vague plans for a buggy at some point in the future - I've got an IRS rear end and a ball joint front, so rude not to stick them together and have a four wheeled sports bike beater!

U could build a car for a show in 20 days, np. But it wouldn’t be a show car ( unless you’ve invested the money and prepared for a couple of years anyways)gd luck 👍
