Forgotten Volkswagen Single Cab

- How does an old Volkswagen Single Cab get buried under 3 feet of dirt? Took 45 years to bury this Volkswagen and almost 2 days to dig it out. Have a look. Took the Syncro for a Sunday drive and spotted an old single cab in the foothills outside Idaho Falls. This is nine hours worth of digging condensed into a 15 minute video. It had been sitting in a wash since 1967. It was buried under two feet of dirt but it's extremely rust free given the circumstances. The drop gates hadn't seen the light of day for 45 years. IF YOU HAVE A VOLKSWAGEN THAT NEEDS RESCUED OR KNOW OF ONE GIVE US A CALL AT (208)200-6053. We also consign Volkswagens if you have one you want to sell. Thanks Skeeters.
Thanks for all the phone calls and emails about Forgotten VW's that we have received. This video has helped rescue several abandoned and otherwise forgotten VW's that may have been left for dead including a very cool 1960 VW Double Cab that we got out of Missouri that had been sitting since 1965. We also recently returned from Mission Viejo California where we picked up a 1961 SO-23 Westfalia. This bus had been sitting since 1980. We got a tip on that bus after someone saw the Forgotten Single Cab video. Give us a call today if you know of one. Thanks again. Skeeters (208)200-6053

l have watched this like 3 times, you did alot of work, did it ever get restored,
I came across this video because I've recently became obsessed with older VW Campers/Buses. I'm watching for a few minutes and read the discription: blew my mind that you are 3 miles away from me and I'm right next to the foothills.
This video was received so well and such a great success for our first that we are currently working on a creative followup. Hope to do the first one justice with the sequel. We really kinda just threw this one together with very little planning and it just worked. Hard to duplicate that sometimes. Promise a follow up in the near future. Thanks.
Have you more about Restauration?
I love it when people take time and energy to save sweet old cars like that good job
these guys represent America in its truest fashion and form you gotta respect this guy and his family, who's not touched by this? That is an awesome vehicle I remember this thing when I was young.. talk about resurrecting it from the dead literally.. awesome..
they are Canadian
I have a lot of help from my wife and daughters as well as friends that help out with these projects. I'm not alone....yet.
I am lucky to have such a supportive wife and 2 beautiful daughters that love cars.
We had one of these in the 60s when I was a kid. We used it to transport most of the building supplies about 70 miles out of town and into the mountains to build our cabin in the woods. Almost every weekend we would be gone. I would sometimes ride in the back and read comic books on the way back home. We never once got stopped by the cops and I guess I never fell out cause I'm still here. I wish I could find another one but they are like gold now. You are one lucky guy. Lots of restoration ahead but so well worth it.... Was that one of your daughters who drove the excavator up to the site? Girls are awesome.
That is kind of rare vw looks nice. You did a nice job digging that Vw out. Looks like fun restoring it or hot rodding might be easier to get parts for
Happy to see this getting restored after 7 years in the garage!
Never mind the bloody VW. Where do you find women that will go with you to dig out an old truck ?
Roland Hawken I hear they are hard to find. I lucked out and found a couple. Thanks for watching. JC.
Volkswear Lucked out that is an understatement to be certain.
+Roland Hawken nowhere when you call it a "bloody VW"
Roland Hawken You have two gems there 1. The bus. and 2. The women that helped you dig it out. Are any of them single?? Ha ha treat them well
All i care about is the fact the bus is missing like 8/10 things a VW should have, make it any van. (engine, doors, seats, dashboard, wheels, ect)
Even after years, I still love this video!
You stole the car...bring it back !!
Finders Keepers....You know the rest. Thanks for watching. JC.
Most definitely.

How far are you willing to drive and how far from the road will you go and how deep will you dig? I know where a early V front VW van is in a river, past some farms, ......you have to drive until you hear banjo.
@@xmo552 I'd be interested in hearing more about it. We've pulled stuff out from as far away as Alaska. Sometimes its more about the adventure and the rescue story. Shoot me a text or email. JC. (208)200-6053 cuttsjeremy@yahoo.com

I could had sworn I had replied but apparently I hadn't. I even checked my email. So today I drove past the spot and I remembered having told you about it.
The weather is nicer, the brush has dried back, my schedule is under control, and now I just have to go take a hike some day when the farmers are hungover and their shotguns are unloaded..... maybe one of these Saturday or Sunday mornings I'll head out for you.
You're lucky that VW was buried in very dry soil. That's likely what kept it from rusting completely to pieces. What a sweet find.
Very cool video.
yes very good to see young girls not texting or anything we need our heritage back and this is just the way so, great job all of you
wow good job!!
+MicBergsma Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoyed it. JC.
+Volkswear thumbs up, I did :) going to check out your other videos! Keep filming!
This is the most amazing rescue of a vehicle that I've ever seen!! Congratulations!!!
"Crawled Out of a Grave" is definitely the right song for this video. :-)
Agreed.
How fortuitous that you happened to have shovels and a backhoe with you you when you were out for your Sunday drive. Thats what I call being prepared for every eventuality : )
...and it started up on the first try!
Cool riff from Dan-o. Thanks for sharing along with you fantastic find.
"Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances." Thomas Jefferson.
Thanks for arresting the rust. Onward and upward! Viva VWs!
Around 1960 we used these VW trucks to deliver armament to F-100 fighter aircraft in Germany. With the sides down, the bed was low enough to back in under the aircraft refueling boom, and exactly the right height to stand on while lifting the ammo cans to the bays. Sides up, and we could haul around all the stuff we needed. One older truck would not start for some reason, but ran fine after a push start. Motor pool refused to fix it because of its age and their idiotic budget, so we push started it every morning and left it running all day, until we had to return it to the motor pool at night. Military intelligence, you know.
+Hopelessand Forlorn That is a pretty cool story. Thanks for sharing. Do you happen to have any pics from back then of the VW's? I'm always looking for old vintage photos of VW's. Thanks for watching. JC.
My Grandpa was air force and he talked about the single cabs, but also the Beetle pickup trucks. It sounded like an odd concept. I have yet to see one.

Hopelessand Forlorn damn nice, split window like this one too or no?
you reached "hero" status saving that O'le girl . . . awesome !
cheers from Arizona , usa .
Did anyone see the little girl driving the digger at 0:30
Has to be my favorite part of the whole video. Alexa my daughter that drove the track hoe was 10 years old at the time. She still blushes and get shy when people laugh at that part of the video. Thanks for watching.
Volkswear she is 18 now right?
Volkswear Right On, Papa Bear! Inspiring Dad! 👍👍
Ean Albe Not yet. JC.
It was great to see your whole family with you helping to get it out. Looks like its going to be a great project. Keep the videos coming on the progress.
So what has happened to this lucky single cab? I'd love to see the restoration, even be part of it! :-)
Hey Ace we are in the process of getting some updates on this truck. Plans are to keep it as original as possible and run it as a shop truck for our family business. As far as being part of it I could get you our address so you can ship me over a new motor and trans. :) All joking aside what did you have in mind as far as being part of it? We would like some help sourcing some hard to find parts. The Sealing Wax Red decklid is going to be a bit hard to find and I would like some original commercial interior panels. Thanks for watching Ace. Jeremy.

LOVE to see this VW restored!!
Great job :-) Old VW pickups are very rare now.
Thanks Claude. They are getting a little hard to find. Thanks for watching.
Check out our latest "field find" a 1960 Panel/Camper bus. We take some parts with us and attempt to get it running and drive it out of the field it had been sitting in for 2 years. VW Split Window Bus Field Find Lives Again. Forgotten Volkswagen 1960 Camper

That little girl is going to make a great wife one day. She runs off and drives the excavator in like a boss.
Jackle61 She is fearless when it comes to a lot of things. I'm going to try and forget the wife comment. Not ready to start thinking about that for another 10 years or more. Thanks for watching.
Jeremy Cutts I know where you're coming from. I just wish my wife would hop on the equipment and come out to have some fun.
Jeremy Cutts Almost forgot,,,, very cool truck. I remember them when I was boy.
1956 Volkswagen Krankenwagen... another words, an Ambulance. I was born in 56 and I had one in 1986-1991... worked in a Candle Factory in trade for it. I live in BC Cnada and it was actually Imported and was in service in Grandforks new, in 56. Being a restoration enthusiast... I would love to see the video resto of this Single Cab VW dropside pickup. :)
Now that's what I call robbing the grave :)
My kind of grave robbing MDG. Thanks for watching.
Jeremy Cutts You're welcome. I love seeing these rescues.
Did you see our latest? Last Saturday we pulled a 1960 VW Camper out of a field here in Idaho. Drove it out. Here is the link. VW Split Window Bus Field Find Lives Again. Forgotten Volkswagen 1960 Camper
Jeremy Cutts Yup - already saw and enjoyed it.

What a find! Hard work, well done, fun to watch, good luck. Thank's!
this is worth over 220 grands...
pesos?
That is amazing. You would expect anything under the dirt to be powdered.
Tak Wolf I was blown away when we started digging and it was as dry as it was. I expected it to be completely rotted out. Thanks for watching. JC.
Muito trabalho. É isso aí!
Love it, family that works together stays together!
its people like this that make me happy

Thanks timothy. We are working on putting together some more fun content. As always thanks for watching and commenting.
Excellent!! Nice video!!!
This was their second time in the shovel. Both of them got a turn about 5 years ago helping me dig around our shop we were building. Thanks for watching.
talk about buried treasure
Yes indeed. Thanks for watching Fassold.
Bless you for saving that VW!
Can You Dig it ?...well YES,,, I would love to share this but needs condensed a tad ..thanks for sharing ...the little ones will be talking this up many years from now and that's the real beauty of it
Thanks RJ for watching and commenting. JC.

music kicks ass, nice truck ya found bro🤟
being under the dirt is wat save it from doom good job man
In Russia T1 is restored to $ 80,000. I respect people who restore rare cars. Good luck to you.
Very good job getting it un dug, the onto a truck..cheers
We still have it. It is a keeper. Will be the official shop truck when done. Progress is a little slow on the resto as we have several going at the moment.
Excellent video, good to see it was a family event. If you are taking video of the restoration progress that would be nice to see. Again, excellent video loved every minute of it!
Still have the single. It has become a member of the family. Hope to have some more vids of it soon.
Thanks for the feedback, hope you upload that baby when its fixed ^_^
damn, how the heck did that get so burried? I love the fact that when you unearthed it the panels were not all rotted out, amazing. I also liked how everyone was involved, very nice! Great job on this one
thank you for documenting this...My love for cars started when I was about 10 years old when I picked up my first issue of VW Trends magazine and I had a subscription till I was about 18 yrs old...I would love the article about ppl finding old bugs a and buses in a field or barn and resurrect them to former glory or beyond.
Loved watching this. If it was in the uk it would have completely rotted away, much wetter ground here. I have a T25 which looks the same as the one in the background.
Trackhoe rental $200.00. Tank of gas for the Syncro $50.00. Lunch for 4 in the foothills outside of town $20.00. Digging up a future family heirloom in the form of a rusty split window VW. . . . . . . . Priceless. It was worth it for us. To be honest if it would have been an old 911 I would have left it. Not always about the $.
Very cool video!! Thanks, great music also!
what a cool find, ya gotta love old veedub's
Cool deal to rescue vintage vehicles.
Let us know when you get her finished. that was a hell of alot of work to get it out of there. Way to go. I thought it was cool that your daughters were in volved with the digging. It's gonna be a cool ride.
love it cant wait to see the vid of it on the road again
very nice. This is a real classic treasure. Love VW T1-T3 :D
very cool. keep us posted on the restoration
Would love to have had the money and good fortune to find and restore this vehicle. They had character back then and were great running cars and trucks. I had a 69 super berries beetle as my first car till some wonderful lady turned left in front of my friend and ended an era of cruising bliss.
She was resurrected in a sense as all the salvageable parts went to another beetle that was headed to California that year. It's been 40yrs and I still miss her.
Glad this brought back some good memories for you John. Hopefully you'll find another one someday and get to relive the good old days. JC.
Blessed are those who save for they shall inherit the Earth . Good job
Looks like a hell of work.
Thats my dream family outing!

We have internet at our shop and obviously use it to promote our business and hobby. The internet is a great tool and I must say I spend way more time online than I should. I don't have internet at our home which keeps me from wasting a lot of time surfing when I am at home with the family.
We were showed the bus by the owner and removed it with his blessing.
Funny that you drive by and turned back like hey whats that rusty thing over there?
Man that guy sure digs fast. lol
YOU ARE MY HERO!!!👏👏👏👏
Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. There are always going to be haters. This video has been for the most part very well received and we appreciate all the great comments and support for the video and the channel. It is however impossible to please everyone. Thanks again for watching.
У Вас очень красивая жена. И очень здорово, что семья поддерживает любовь к старым фольксвагенам.
looks like the holding valve on the trackhoe rental was bad. As the truck was lifted up in the air, it slowly dropped. Either the holding valve was bad, or something was sinking.. lol. Nice find!
VWs are best and ma favorite..! i like it's voice...!! great feeling..!!
Спасибо за проверку из нашего канала. Я не говорю на русском, но благодаря Google Translate я смотрю как профессионал. Надеюсь, что это имеет смысл. Приветствие из США.
Amazing. Can't wait to see more videos of it!
I did the same thing with my 1957 Ford Fairlane 500, plus there was a bunch of huge trees on it
Woe, that's allot of diggin man!!! :)
Hello jermikey, I am Brazilian, have several of these around here, I'm buying one for me also restore. The Kombi single cab is my favorite, congratulations, great job! she already retired? post more videos!!
We found the transaxle that was no good and the aircleaner is still there but everything else is gone. We have a new transaxle now and motor. Hopefully have a fun followup video of the truck soon. Thanks for watching.
What a beautifull VW!! Please upload a Video if the Bus is driveable :D
I had to wait about 5 months for the snow to melt and ground to dry up a bit before we could go dig this out. It was a LONG 5 months.
Thank you.
this blew my mind absolutely amazing!!
awesam dude!! respect
