I have a SR-F for 64000km now. Great bike for commuting 170km a day and weekend trips of 200km without charging. Or longer trips is best to charge every 100km for 30minutes (I got 12.6kW max charging). Instant power at any speed and almost no maintenance is just 👌🏍⚡️
Why is it that when I went to demo an SRF, it was fully charged and showing 140km of range. Then through 25 km of city and 25km of country roads I was at 50%, without a heavy throttle hand. I understand that I had to pay to unlock the top 20% of the battery ( a deal killer in itself), but these ranges being quoted are nowhere near the reality I experienced.
Hello, I currently own several motorcycles, Bmw 1200 Gs, Harley fat boy, Honda 1300 st. I also have a Zero sr/f, I leave my home with a full charge which costs me 2.28 euros with a range of 200 km. I ride on a country road, at the authorized speed, and I recharge my motorcycle after 150 km of riding at a 22 kW terminal with a charging capacity of 12 KW in my motorcycle. My charging time at this terminal is 40 minutes, taking a little collaboration to recover 180 km and the sum of 2 euros. That's a day's ride and a 300 km journey for less than 5 euros of fuel. In good weather (I'm Belgian) I go out 2 to 3 times a week for this type of walk. With another of my motorcycles, each of my rides costs me + - 23 euros per day plus maintenance, oil, filters. Over a motorcycle season the difference is significant. My motorcycle is second-hand. I agree that new is still expensive, but I love this bike. Happy New Year to everyone and good luck ✌
I really like the idea. I have an electric car which just works and is pretty amazing to drive. If the bike did 150 miles plus a little in reserve, was priced in line with a premium ice bike and the buyer didn't get charged for what I'd consider essential items such as the charging lead, id try one. Unfortunately I wouldn't be prepared to pay more and accept a load of compromises. Hopefully the price will come down and the range will go up. Cheers 👍
@@nickbetts2244 Hello, yes I agree with your arguments. There is still a lot of progress to be made in the field of electric motorcycles. Currently, there is the price and the autonomy constraints. But I love riding the small, hilly country roads, and there, it is much more fun than my GS or my Fat-Boy. Try it out on small country roads, it's the best way to get an idea of the pleasure it gives you. ✌
I have 2022 SR/F. Love it! I will not listen to anybody bad mouthing these bikes. Those who do generally have never ridden one or are too influenced with what their “mates” have to say, they also never having ridden one! PS I don’t drive a Tesla!
I should have added, had the second dealer service yesterday at the princely sum of £70 inclusive of VAT, which compares nicely to the £230 cost for my Thruxton RS. Happy days. 👍
I think commuting motorcycles and small city cars are really the only place for electric. This one looks quite good. Needing an app to have full access and £400 for a lead places it firmly on the ‘no, never’ pile for me though. Great review all the same, very interesting 👍🏼
Yes, exactly. Its hasn't been very well implemented into the market from the start. Now belts have been tightened for everybody it stands even less chance of becoming the norm.
@@Borderman47 How many times have you seen Marc Travel beg to plug in wherever he eats or sleeps and how long will that be tolerated by business owners as more people jump on the virtual signalling bandwagon.
For me to consider an electric bike, ER, there would have to be many 'improvements' like, as you rightly say, range, price, and cost of extras like charging leads. A great review that clarifies many queries folk have about electric vehicles in general.
Hi Exmouth. As you already know, I really like this bike ( although I'd have to do something about that bloody seat ) but it's just way too expensive to be widely adopted, which it deserves to be. It's one thing paying a lot of money for a well made bike but to pay a premium for having less range and more worry every time you go out on the bike is a hard sell. Also, this locking out of features unless you've paid for them is a real two fingered salute to those people brave enough and rich enough to lay down their cash to buy one. Electric motorcycles like this one are the future. But they need to be priced at ICE levels. As you say, to increase range they could easily dial the power back a bit. I believe that the Zeros do have an ECO mode to extend range but judging by Marc Travels videos, it's still bloody fast even in ECO mode. They could definitely try to find a better balance between range and performance I reckon. But none of that matters if they are going to continue to be so expensive. Somebody like Triumph could really clean up if they brought out a much more affordable electric motorcycle where range and charging times were prioritised over performance. Heck, even a renowned tight wad like myself might consider blowing his self-imposed €7k new bike price limit for one of those ! Cheers Steve, love to the Exmouth crew, Garry & Ruby
Hi Dave, Yes, the prices are just "richmans territory" and with everything getting tight around the world, a huge effort needs to be made it getting the bikes out there and bums on seats...sadly they didn't do that with this bike or any of the Zeros and relyed on dealers who don't know about that side of things anyway to get exposure. Noiw it could be too little too late! Yeap, we need ICE pricing ,and yet that dosent seem to be possiable and a million miles off from it! Shame because I would have one any day and could make the range work. el outro , Hope you have a good week Dave and look after rupit with lots of beef.
Can’t see how reducing the power output of the motor will make the bike significantly more economical. Ok, you’d save a few kg that could be redirected to more battery capacity. The main factor for any e-bike’s efficiency is the bike + rider drag and the velocity. A powerful e-bike cruising at 60mph will be using about 5kW of power, just the same as if you replaced the motor with a weaker one. So, it’s not the same as with the ICE, where bigger capacity and tuning for higher power gives lower mpg figures. Electric motors are highly efficient whatever their max power / load / rpm.
@@vannicrider7953 Thanks. That does sound appealing but I would be concerned about the state of the battery pack. If it is due for replacement soon then that would make it an expensive purchase after all. I'm not sure how you can check battery health without buying the bike and seeing how far it will go on a full charge. It's a tricky one. But yes, a healthy Zero at that money would definitely be worth considering. Unfortunately I don't think that you would find one here in Spain for anything like that price. Second hand vehicles here are ridiculously overpriced IMO ( except when they are mine of course 😂 ). Cheers Garry
$39,000 for the sr and $43,500 for an srf. You can buy a decent car here in Australia for this Plus AUSTRALIA doesn’t have enough power stations to run electric cars here.
I've been riding this bike to work in London for 4 years now. It costs me £2 a week to charge, it's suoer fast and smooth as hell and I wouldn't swap it for anything (except maybe the Verge TS Ultra 😂)
So, apart from having to buy a lead for £450, a range that makes it virtually useless, an uncomfortable seat and a ridiculous price tag...it`s perfect. (My comment is in no way a criticism of this excellent, real-world, sensible review. Thank you.)
@@davericketts9101 it's on me, I'll get them to send the paperwork through, this comment is legally binding to setting up the monthly payments... Thanks for signing up. 👍
My actual only concern with EVs is about autonomy, charging time and prices. This in the scenario of owning just one bike to do commuting, weekend rides and longer travels. Thanks ✌️
For an electric motor it does not matter how much power you have on how efficient it is. The Tesla Model S Plaid has 1000hp but is almost as efficient as the long range variant. This is very different from ICE fossil fuel vehicles. Range is dependent on how fast you go (so how conservative your hand is really, or which mode you are in) and how big the battery pack is. So I do not agree on giving it less power!
OK fair comment. Thanks for watching 👍🍻. My theory was same power but rescrited so even when you give it the beans only half power is used.... That's my thinking Thanks mate
i agree with s73 i was about to comment before i read his ;; the bike is brill quick - but i am not pi--ing about with childish apps ;;;; and not about to pay 400 quid for an electric kettle lead ;;; am enjoying the review though ;;;
I can see why city scooters would work a range of 40/50 miles, but for any other application i can't see how they work - too expensive, and poor range combined with long charging times, and nowhere warm and dry to sit when charging, unlike a car. How many do they sell in the UK ?
Exactly and hardly any...It hasn't been rolled out very well here...To be honest they were out for a while ...like 4-5 years before I could even get one...and thats coming from a bike reviewer! I think they missed the boat now TBH
Thanks you for the excellent, unbiased review. I agree with your comments, in particular that the pricing formulae need to be adjusted to make the tech affordable to the average person. The range does not particularly bother me, I use my IC machine for touring and long rides, an electric bike with 100 mile range is more than enough for trips to the supermarket and typical Sunday afternoon rideouts. The range is also more than enough for my commute - although let’s be honest, I only use my bike for commuting on warm, dry days, otherwise I prefer sit in the traffic Jams listening to the radio. I increasingly feel that electric bikes are the future, it’s likely I’ll get one in the next couple of years, while also retaining my old petrol machine. Reviews like yours definitely influence my choice.
Thanks very much. Yes I still think its the way things are going...The transition will be very messy and it will price many people out I feel... I really want this to work but in areas the electric move is getting messier everyday and they seem to be doing a lot wrong....Zero have made a good bike here but unless marketing and distribution is tackled head on then it will always be a "back burner" bike. Let me know if you do go electric. I'm the same, a 100 mile range is something I could work with.
They are making them look like motorbikes now which is good compared to the space age monstrosities of even 3 years ago. It all depends what you want it for. Touring? No, you need ICE. Day out to Plymouth/Penzance/Woolacombe? No, you need ICE. Work out the realistic range, half it, get your compass out and make a circle round your house. Will you stay mostly in the circle? Get an electric. A lot of people have more than one bike as there aren't many that do everything you want. My question. My son says his electric pulls away sharply and stops sharply so I have to be aware of that. How did you find the Zero? Is it something you need to be prepared for? Loved the LIVE the other day. Will you be doing them this winter?
Yes they are very fast Lilly and pick up well ,,,This one stopped OK as well although the rear brake could have been better. Glad you enjoyed the live. Thanks for coming along . Yes I am looking forward to doing some soon with the normal crew...it's just bring evryone together is always a bit complicated. Hope all is good your end : )
I had recently bought a Zero SR/S (basically an SR/F with a fairing). Not a perfect bike but it is pretty darn well-executed. Been trying to buy a used BMW C Evolution electric scooter but I couldn't find one. I found my SR/S Premium (6kW charger vs 3kW on base model) with 1100 miles for less than $10k, which when new was $21k. Was a no-brainer for someone wanting an electric motorcycle. My biggest complaint is the cruise control. I love cruise control on bikes but I hate how they incorporated it into the right hand controls. I have to be very careful turning on CC and setting it since I end up having to be careful I don't inadvertently twist the grip. It is bad if in setting CC, I loosen my grip and end up slowing down (regen-ing in the process). Even worse is having a compromised grip trying to reach the CC button and you twist the throttle and accelerate harder than you wanted. The right hand could easily come off the grip. I keep my big BMW K1600 GTL for my long trips but I always take out the Zero on the thinnest excuse to go for a ride.
I really like the bikes, but I don't think Zero are doing enough over here getting the bikes too market and feel they may have missed the wave now. They are classy bikes for sure. I totally agree with you about the cruise control...its all set up wrong there. Those K1600s are amazing bits of kit. Thanks for watching mate.
In one of Charlie Boormans By any means travel series he’s in somewhere like Indonesia and meets up with Zero who have a set up there and rides an electric bike around, that’s about 2008👍
I think the Japanese brands have a lot up their sleeve. I'm eager to know what they have...Hybrid bikes though sounding OK ,I bet it will be big money!
Very nicely finished machine. I'm probably not the customer Zero is aiming at and since my work and commuting days are well over. I don’t think government legislation pushing or forcing the electric bikes is a welcomed step for most motorcyclist as we are by nature a independent lot. I can see the battery powered bikes have advantages in some areas. I can see Kawasaki hybrid as a better step depending on cost. I don’t have a crystal ball but I don’t see battery powered only motorcycles as the near future solution unless break throughs are made to eliminate or minimize their deficiencies.
It makes you feel glad we had the better days of the ICE machines before all the regs came in! certinly here with Euro Regs its a real PITA. I'm sure Kawaker will come out with some awesome new alternatives.....well , they will be alternatives until one sees the price tag!!
Hey there, thanks for the video! I have one question: I see you have lowered pegs..I‘m 185cm and curious if with the lowered pegs and the liftet seatheight I would ride comfortable..or if I‘m just too tall for that bike. Cheers
It would be easy to say 'no thank you' to this kind of bike - especially after almost 60 years of owning & riding petrol machines - but as I've never ridden an electric bike (!!!) I suppose I'd be a bit of a 'luddite' if I said that. Instead, I'll just post that I am thankful I've had so much time on petrol gobbling, carbon-emittiting, but beloved machines that have been filled with character, quirks & sounds. As a matter of curiosity, how much did 'that thing' weigh & how much would it cost otr? Good videos always, keep them coming.
227kg which is good all things considered....Your right though, what we have had over the years with fossil burners has been so much fun, especially in the days prior to Euro regs etc. I don't miss those of cars etc I have had but I am glad I went through it.
My Zero is as fast 0-60 as my ZX14R. I plug if into 110 a few hours a week and can ride it 5 miles to work all week. The lack of noise is a safety issue, trying to figure that out.
The charging cable for 13-amp domestic mains or type-2 EV chargers IS included and isn't a £400 option, its £400 for a replacement if you lose or break or want a spare.
I bought a Zero FXE a perfect commuter bike for me, I was going for a CFMOTO 450MT, but it was to close to what I have a CCM, and it was on zero finance so was a no brainier for my circumstances
As a tradesman it would be interesting if you could speak to an electrician about that cable and a substitute for it. £450 is harsh on top of the price of the bike in the first place.
Hi Steve.. Excellent stream with Garry few days ago. Personally, I am ok with EVs. Still battery chemistry needs improvements but most E-motorcycles that I know of lack design. I find them very ugly but it is subjective. This is not the case for e-scooters, they just look like scooters. I don't know what will happen 10-15 years from now with the ICE ban.
Hi stefan, It was great to see you in the side chat. Yes the ICE ban seems like a calamity "around the corner" to me, and the people who will be hit the most are the people with smaller piggy banks. Sucks really. This bike is really good but more effort needs to be made in marketing I feel.
Really interesting bike, but 20k! Could spend 3k on a Himalayan and the rest would probably get me a good way to Australia! Really interesting and good to see whats happening now but thanks for sharing 😊🙏
Its not a bad looking bike by any stretch. Having to keep my electric work van at home the only thing that annoys me is public charging, its starting to cost far too much and the chargers are either super busy or never working. The performance of every electric bike I have rode has left me smiling, its such a great feel from the burst of acceleration, I'm not a big loving of the annoying noise they make but horses for courses. For city riding and commuting, I really do think electric bikes is a good way to go, if you're never going to be going out of a city then these are great. Sorry, what do you mean no one needs a bike to be able to do 120mph+? 🤣 you and me must ride slightly differently 🤣 Great video mate, very fairly spoken, the future is coming whether we like it or not, I just hope there is an option and that people will be allowed to decide for themselves.
I know 120mph is quite normal on the super sausage Autobarrn but down here we never need it, although I did get 125mph out of my Talbot Solara once.lol
I like the ideal of electric bikes as I hate the agro of getting fuel. What would put me off buying one of these new is the fact that they were something like £23000 new and and you can go buy a second hand one for £13000. 12 months old with 500 miles on the clock in Exeter today. They've had it a while too, before Zero knocked £3500 off the new ones which makes the second hand ones seem overpriced at 13k now. Not great if you are selling one. My other problem is the whole idea of buying the entire bike then having the pay more to unlock hardware that is already on it. I've heard talk of restricting battery cells, therefore range and not allowing use of heated grips that are on the bike unless you pay to enable them. I don't know if that ever happened but it's kinda shady business. Range and recharge time wouldn't put me off one of these, the £400 cable that should really come with the bike if they can knock 1000's off in the winter to make room for next years model and locking hardware already on the bike behind a paywall would put me off.
I couldn't agree more Dr B... the whole paying for more even though its there is a kick in the teeth to someone who will already take the plunge to be loyal and buy into the brand..... It's no wonder we don't see these bikes riding around the motherland (Exeter) when the prices are as they are and they want more for some basics . They are not helping themselves and by the sounds of it if they got things right then you could be a customer, but as it stands they need to work harder on pulling people in. Missed you at the re-union...it was a good night in the end, although not the normal turn out it still went well. Cheers mate
Agreed they need less power ive only ever used sport mode in 2 yrs its deffo not needed Best bike ive ever owned in 45yrs biking charge for free via my solar & some public charhers are free for motorcycles
I love mine, but it keeps snapping belts :( Well I say "keeps", mine snapped at 7000 and 14000 miles, leaving me in the middle of nowhere all day waiting for the AA. So ... not so great for commutes after all, because now I don't trust it :(
@@exeterriderboth times snapped just 30 miles after dealer twiddled with it ... maybe not a coincidence. Run it as loose as you can (I set mine to about 55kg)
What are you saying? Infact we need more power. 200 HP Like the Kawasaki ZH2. Zero Motorcycles please make 200 HP naked electric super bike. This SRF is amazing. Kindly launch in my country India.
The problem with EV is how it has been sold (pushed) on to us. If EV was so fantastic, as it is advertised, then the powers that should not be, would not need to manipulate the market to favour it over anything else. Couple that with the current range (useless and subjective to many contributory factors) and ludicrous charging times, then I am afraid they have tarnished the projects image & hence the hard sell.
yeah,I think your right there....thing is the concept can work for 80% of people including myself but its been so badly implemented and human errors and mis management is making the whole thing a total mess....Zero make awesome bikes...yes they are too pricy and over kill for the everyday man but I think many could live with the range....but then the marketing here has not been good at all and Zero have relyed on dealers to market the bikes for them...total wasted opportunity, and now I feel it could be too late to pull it back.
Just my opinion but..... In regard to your comments on producing a model with less speed/power to increase range. There is not a lot of increase to be realized in reducing the speed/power of the bikes in the case of a full sized E road bike. Battery packs large enough to deliver this kind of range generally have enough amp output to satisfy some serious acceleration without being designed strictly for that purpose. As to the motor yes you could save some weight there but again in there is not a lot to be gained. The main gains with current technology are IMO seen through aerodynamics and regenerative and other controller programming strategies. So when you consider the first thing many potential buyers look at is specs, the returns to be seen in power reduction vs the loss in sales to be seen dictates their marketing strategy. Richard Gavle
I keep looking at electric cars due to my commute of 4 miles it would work out much better, but I don’t think I could ever go for electric motorcycles. Nothing beats a bike engine when on song I appreciate the engineering involved in the building but a bike should be petrol for me
Some tool! 125mph? Now we're talking (for an e-bike) I get what you say about less power = more range but i think it'll be a selling point. Look at 'busas and Bmw 1000r's, nobody NEEDS that power but it sells them doesnt it?. As for the torque, well! 190 n/m you say? Compare that to the measly 50? N/m of my old thing, and i thought she pulled well low down!. Range is still a bit of a bugbear ( actually the range is ok, its the anxiety of where you're going to charge and the time that it takes) nice review! 👍
Exactly Ken, I could make it up to you and back ....then back again but I'd have to find a charger after that, and although its OK you get a sense of "what happens if I do run out" a bit like riding in the outback.
Zero could EASILY provide an extreme range mapping option on the phone app which would limit top speed and acceleration. There's third party software available for this already. I seem to remember a couple of Zero riders playing with this on RUclips years ago. There was an American teacher who rigged up fast chargers and did a big roadtrip. I would actually like to see what's possible on the Zero with "manual" hypermiling (ie very gentle throttle hand).I did this on my NC750DCT and managed over 100mpg in "boring old man" mode. Not much fun, but shows you what's possible.
I just cant get my head around electric motorbikes, and in their current form. I like the noise and vibration of a combustion engine, its what makes a motorbike appealing and safer on the road. "Be heard & seen!" After some thought I really do think they're a waste of time, space and money. My prediction? They'll become the "Betamax" or "Sinclair C5" of our times😅
maybe yes lol, at the same time the lack of vibrations do make it a sweeter ride for sure...i hear what your saying but its nice to have those elements and nice not to have them....thats my take : )
For sure "Gen AI" will no doubt love them. Surely, it's diminishing returns in terms of enjoyment though. Imagine a world where every vehicle engine is silenced - oh boy! I'd go crazy
Never noticed any difference compared to riding ICE. Loud pipes save lives is bull. Also, an EV isn't silent. People turn heads when I approach on my 2020SRF.
I agree , my take on it is that there are so many ways to make electricity, wind, solar, waves etc and in many ways its going in the right direction when you compare it to how long and 100s of billions of quid is going into making the new Hinkley point which is a mind blowing Huge project. I reckon in 100 years time, farms will be filled with solar panels rather than grain or whatever. For me as much as I would like to keep ICE vehicles , I think it is a forward step to try and stop chucking shite into the air even though granted these days engines are much cleaner....I don't say this for the Ozone layer but for us breathing that crap in, its really bad, although were healthy I would imagine it has done harm to 10s of millions breathing it in. The problem is the human beings managing the process will always make a proper cock up of it ,and the whole situation will go wrong because thats the way its always been. I agree plugging into the grid dosent make sense to a limit and there is alot to be said for nuclear power but overall for me, as much as I love the ICE, things do need to move on one way or another and it wont happen efficiently anytime soon. Were in 1905 with electric at the moment. You had the glory days, I had a taste of it. Happy Xmas to you both 👍😊
Nice one Sir, as I have said before it is brilliant somebody 'old school', ( and I mean that kindly ), explores the subject rather than 'Greta' type people! Oh, and bye the way, I'm mildly disappointed, you mentioned fossil fuels as an alternative but did you know at the time I was watching your LecPorn, the UK grid was running on 30% renewables!!!
As an EV user as well as ICE would I buy one? No! 1. 7kW charging should be standard as an absolute minimum for commuter bikes. Bikes like this need proper rapid charging. It’s around on cars up to 400kW or similar not relying on 13amp chargers. 2. Halve the power, still getting fab real world performance and suddenly the range gets better. Remember ev performance is vastly better to comparable ICE due to instant continuous 100% full fat torque. Suddenly most issues are removed. But they aren’t. And charging extra for a cable to meet a standard EV wall box? Outrageous. They should be offering the flaming wall box FOC anyway. It smacks of amateurs playing to make a quick buck. I’m not incandescent with rage but I am pretty much fuming at the state of the industry…AAAARRRRGH
Have we all lost our collective minds ? 20 grand for what is in reality nothing more than a comuter bike with barely 100 mile range and pretty basic equipment is ridiculous and then they want to rip you off for a charge cable and options. I'm sorry I know reveiwers have to try and keep manufacturers happy to keep getting bikes but the reality is this is daylight robbery. Just think of the bikes that are available for this amount of money even when you've ticked all the options. You could have a bike that comes with a 250 mile range that has, heated grips, heated seats, top of the range ohlins, adaptive cruise control etc. etc.. This thing has switchgear that looks like it came off a Lexmoto it has J.Juan brakes that again you would expect to see on a bike that costs less than a quarter of this. I am absolutely o.k with the idea of Electric bikes for commuting but they need to be at commuting price if they are ever going to be taken seriously.
Ha, Thanks for watching mate, I dont have to keep anyone happy apart from the wife! Thing is ,if it was marketed properly ,then I think there is a limited market out there for it . The switchgear and really the whole bike is set up and feels solid. 20k though .....it firmly sits in the richmans pocket...this will never take off at this price.... Your last comment "Electric bikes for commuting but they need to be at commuting price if they are ever going to be taken seriously" I agree with 100%
I am not against electric motorcycles, but if I understand it correctly, I would pay a truckload of money for a motorcycle with already built in facilities, that I can't use unless I pay an extra ransom to have them unlocked? I think that's a despicable business model, and certainly one I won't have anything to do with, so under those conditions there's zero chance that my next bike will be a Zero.
Yes it's a strange set up to spend that amount on a bike then have all the features there but you can't use them....Just feels wrong for someone who would invest money and loyalty into the brand. Thanks for stopping by.
@@exeterrider I have heard rumours that you even have to pay extra to get access to the full capacity of the battery. Apparently you are limited to a certain percentage of the battery's capacity, until you pay Zero to unlock the full capacity! Do you know if that is true?
It's not your channel or you in particular, but anyone putting up electrical bikes is just advertising for the government, they can't even sort out the basics. (Feed and house the homeless 1st I say) The structure isn't there, nor is the will for proper bikers or anyone for that matter to go electric. I will paste and copy this to anyone I follow on RUclips, I'll still follow and watch, but as in this post, I will not give a thumbs up to just anything. Thanks for sharing and see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤙 🤟
@@exeterrider you're very welcome, don't take it personally, it's just the government trying to brainwash individuals. Keep the combustion engine I say! 🤙along with obviously more important topics.
I don't because you worded it so well so Thanks for that. Yes I hope combustion stays....however ,it's incredibly dirty and for people in high traffic areas its not good at all to breath in, ......One massive mess !
If the proposition was viable I would add one in a heartbeat. I’d love an EV bike but this isn’t the one. Seems like my ICE bikes and both ICE and EV cars won’t be getting a stablemate
Ah ah, 4m30 in shattered your narrative!🤣🤣🤣🤣... 130mph as top speed, you think?.. The Mrs's SV650s does that, and sounds amazing doing it, even on the standard exhaust. All the pops and bangs! My VTR100 also has the soundtrack. Not selling us the electric shit!
Yes 125mph they say... I'm with you all the way with the "pops & Bangs " but at the same time its really nice not having vibrations when riding on faster roads , a lot to be said for that and makes it a more pleasant ride I found. I'm not selling anything mate ha!😂👍
Nothing shit about electric i too owned a vtr 1000 & the srf will leave it dead off the lights & anything above 100mph is instent ban & yes ive been banned on a v max ,petrol bikes just done tick all the boxes for me now like the SRF can
Thx for your reply. It‘s not the price, mining the raw materials for battery production is the environmental crime I don‘t like. And when time is up for the batteries, they can‘t be recycled, they are highly toxic hazardous waste.
I was under the impression Lithium can be recycled energy but not to its original power output. The mining part is very messy... that being said I think everything starts off uneconomical (A bit like petrol) but takes years to process a non-impactful system of making this work....million miles to go for that though....no doubt it will get messy with all the people making money out of it. Thanks very much for your thoughts mate
To be like-for-like, electric bikes would need a battery pack of around 25kWh at least. To achieve this on a bike you need a higher battery energy density than we have today.. Things like Teslas which have some of the highest real world density are approaching 300 Wh/kg energy density. To get something that'd squeeze into a bike frame and give half decent range you'd need about 400 Wh/kg, which incidentally is where electric aeroplanes become commercially viable. CATL, the world's biggest battery maker said earlier this year that they are putting a 500 Wh/kg battery into production soon. We're probably talking 5-10 years before they achieve manufacturing economies of scale, then, Bingo, you have affordable electric bikes at cost parity with petrol equivalents.
@@exeterriderYou're right.. EV batteries are around 95% recyclable and recycling the lithium from an already manufactured battery is much less energy intensive than mining new ore and refining it from scratch. You effectively end up with a circular manufacturing process of manufacture-recycling-manufacture over the course of 20 odd years. Interestingly Tesla's co-founder and CTO, JB Straubel left Tesla and started up a company called Redwood Materials which is focusing on exactly this.
I just love my 2019 Zero 'S' 14.4, nevertheless, I am in deep conversation with myself over trading it in for an SRF! I must be mad to even be thinking of getting rid of the best bike I've ridden on the chance an SRF will be better.... One thing about the review. It sounded as if the range of the SRF is similar to my lesser powered but 20Kg lighter 'S'. That's a bit queer eh. Should I stick or trade? 🤔 🤘☠✌
I can't call it for you TBH mate. It seems you're happy with what you have so is it really worth chopping in??? I'm not sure I would TBH but its your call.
I have a SR-F for 64000km now. Great bike for commuting 170km a day and weekend trips of 200km without charging. Or longer trips is best to charge every 100km for 30minutes (I got 12.6kW max charging).
Instant power at any speed and almost no maintenance is just 👌🏍⚡️
Impressive! I can see people easily doing that every day..... But that seat would have to go for that milage for me.
@@brucerossonthetube I can't answer that, must be an issue with the bike I guess?
Great post, very interesting Thanks...I'll pin this comment.

I think commuting motorcycles and small city cars are really the only place for electric. This one looks quite good. Needing an app to have full access and £400 for a lead places it firmly on the ‘no, never’ pile for me though. Great review all the same, very interesting 👍🏼

For me to consider an electric bike, ER, there would have to be many 'improvements' like, as you rightly say, range, price, and cost of extras like charging leads.
A great review that clarifies many queries folk have about electric vehicles in general.
Its still not even close is it Jim. Some electric transport works but with bikes being more of a hobby to most ,it's still not a viable option here.
Totally agree, ER.@@exeterrider
Cheers Steve, love to the Exmouth crew,
Garry & Ruby
Hi Dave,
Yes, the prices are just "richmans territory" and with everything getting tight around the world, a huge effort needs to be made it getting the bikes out there and bums on seats...sadly they didn't do that with this bike or any of the Zeros and relyed on dealers who don't know about that side of things anyway to get exposure.
Look at second hand now. I am looking at a 2yr old one for £6500. Less than many similar ICE bikes.
6.5k! Cheapest I found was 12k!
Cheers

Hiyta, Thank you for a good review and you cover my concerns well. Im not convinced just yet but will watch what happens with interest.

$39,000 for the sr and $43,500 for an srf. You can buy a decent car here in Australia for this
Plus AUSTRALIA doesn’t have enough power stations to run electric cars here.

Nice one, yes it's a heck of a macine👍
So, apart from having to buy a lead for £450, a range that makes it virtually useless, an uncomfortable seat and a ridiculous price tag...it`s perfect. (My comment is in no way a criticism of this excellent, real-world, sensible review. Thank you.)

Nice review mate, got to say zero are pushing out some good bikes at the moment
Yes they are, they feel and look premium and built to last....It's a lot of pound coins which is the problem isnt it. Thanks bud
That's my thinking
Thanks mate

Good review, ER. I'm keen to see how Kawasaki do with their electric and hybrid bikes. Definitely a niche for these out there.

Great overview. Gonna upgrade to this from a 2023 S. Love electric bikes
Right on!

4 miles is ideal for an elecy bike mate. Bikes a bike. its all good i guess...but yes petrol has magic too : )
Some tool! 👍

"Be heard & seen!"
After some thought I really do think they're a waste of time, space and money.

As with cars, the low noise level of these machines has to be a tad dangerous for the rider.
Can do although through experience riding electric , it is quite nice having little noise and you become much more aware and cautious of pedestrians.
Never noticed any difference compared to riding ICE. Loud pipes save lives is bull. Also, an EV isn't silent. People turn heads when I approach on my 2020SRF.
@dennisnl7125 thanks 👍🍻
Still many outstanding questions on ethics surrounding Electric vehicles and let's be real, plugging into the national grid ain't ecological.
Yes I know what you mean there mate....There is a long way to go with all this....I wonder where it will all be in 20 years time!
Now you can take the 2024 s and it has less power and less top speed :)
If I can get hold of one then yes I'd love too!!
@@exeterrider The best is that she is basically as same. But only in white color. I got mine hopefully next week.
Thats pretty much my sentiments....This could all work well and the tech is there but the implementation is pretty bad
(Feed and house the homeless 1st I say)
The structure isn't there, nor is the will for proper bikers or anyone for that matter to go electric.
I will paste and copy this to anyone I follow on RUclips, I'll still follow and watch, but as in this post, I will not give a thumbs up to just anything. Thanks for sharing and see you on your next adventure ✌️ 🤙 🤟
No problem, Thanks very much for stopping by. 👍
Maybe in time prices may flatten out.... I could make it work but it has to be able to pay for it self, and it's a million miles away from that yet!
Great revue ER, not for me though!🙂
Me neither, Thanks mate. Have a good week.
I enjoyed the review mate but it’s not for me I’m afraid!😞👎🏻
Yeah thats fair enough mate....not for me either at that price: )
Nothing shit about electric i too owned a vtr 1000 & the srf will leave it dead off the lights & anything above 100mph is instent ban & yes ive been banned on a v max ,petrol bikes just done tick all the boxes for me now like the SRF can
I got a zero fx 2022 complete trash bike
fair enough : )
The development of electric motorcycles is a dead end. HD and Honda has ceased it, because nearly nobody wants to buy an e-bike. I definitely won‘t.
Yeap, I wish I had a crystal ball to look 20 years ahead and see where we are. I'd have one if it were viable but 20k ....nope!
🤘☠✌
I can't call it for you TBH mate. It seems you're happy with what you have so is it really worth chopping in??? I'm not sure I would TBH but its your call.
Now if only they could make them more affordable...
Exactly
