  • Today's episode celebrates the greatest of Indian superstars: the brilliant Sridevi! In a career spanning 50 years, she did 300 movies in 5 languages. Truly an icon for the ages!
Our dear friend Amrita from Khandaan podcast joined us to talk about this effervescent and electric actress, a Filmi Ladies favorite! We focus on three of her Hindi hits: Amrita picked Chandni (1989), Pitu picked Mr India (1987) and Beth, for reasons she will explain, picked Jaani Dost?!?

‘Judaai’ is a film that perfectly balances sociological study and the economics of the time. I’m being very serious.

Beth is a custodian of culture for keeping the Sridevi-Jeetu Ji Discourse alive 🔥

Akshaye Khanna himself said that Sridevi’s acting is always timeless.

The problematic cinema masterpiece that was ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’ shall not be forgotten.

I am so fond of Sridevi's presence on the screen in every way possible. I saw the film Nagina one day after work and noticed how she dominates every bit of the screen, even when she was fighting with Amrish Puri for that domination I got the feeling that she won out. That film also started a slightly weird crush that I have on Amrish Puri, there was just something magnetic about him. However, even when Sridevi is playing the girlish-womanish-fairyish roles she is also known for there is a strength there. She does not giveme the impression of a wilting flower in the dark, even in her vulnerable moments. I did not know that she started out so young, though. It does kind of explain it though, that she was so comfortable on screen because of that experience and was knowledgeable on an expert level about what to do with her charisma, charm, and body language. She was a great talent as well. I need to watch more of her films when I get a chance. I might take a gamble on "Roop ki Rani Choron Ka Raja" soon due to your recommendation, I will be skipping the racist chinese song however.

Let’s get something right: ‘Tees Maar Khan’ was BASED ON Katrina Kaif being absolutely iconic especially alongside Akshaye Khanna.

    Hello filmi Ladies!
I took a break from podcasts after the Parveen Babi episode but have slowly been catching up. Firstly, I LOVED the 7 Deadly Sins series, brilliant concept and even though I hadn't seen all the films discussed, I was thoroughly engrossed for each episode.
This episode brought a smile to my face and warmth to my soul. Seeing the enthusiasm you three have for the late divine Sridevi was very touching. I unfortunately had only seen Mr India before her passing but then gradually watched English Vinglish, Mom and Chandni. I still have so much more to watch but my goodness did this woman have charisma and screen presence. Utterly captivating and just mesmerising to watch.
