Why buy a card for 2k if lower priced card or console can upscale just as good and can make any game look and preform like its running 4k-60fps or higher. Who will still buy video cards? Im a pc and console gamer, but yeah i saw that presentation back in 2020. Everyone was looking for the next gen graphic cards and the main thing they did in that presentation was showing how you get these ultra high framerates. Back then i was laughing so hard "who the hell needs 240 frames, i want better graphics with acceptable frames". The 30gen of nvidia was scam cause of the bottlenecked vram. Until today Nvidia fans never understood that they got scammed with that gen.

PlayStation Pro is not supposed to be a cheaper option to PC gaming. since its beginning PlayStation has been all about gaming. Xbox failed because of lack of games and focused on console. Pc is now getting smack in the face. imagine jumping in saying pro is too expensive while paying 1600 for one part / piece of a computer and still struggling to run the same games 2 or 3 years later
...wrong on all counts: 1) Playstation at the beginning was about spite with Nintendo. The original system was supposed to be an addon for the SNES which Nintendo stabbed them in the back over it. Without this, you would never have Playstation... period. 2) Can we be sure Xbox failed? Their plan seemed (and has for a LONG TIME) to be about getting their service on every system they can. The only exception seems to be Linux (but hey, they don't want to encourage their data-mining OS to be replaced on PC), but.... I somehow think the Xbox isn't so much failing as being phased out... and has been for a few generations. 3) PC isn't getting smacked by anything.... it's still strong as ever. Can any other platform claim over 20 million users on simultaneously at any given time, 24 hours, every day? And DAILY breaking 30 million (likely 35 million, but Im not about to spend the time to read the chart that close)? Cause Steam alone can claim that. Strong system is strong. No the only ones getting smacked are the AAA industry, and rightfully so. Lazy devs, flooding the market with remakes, and lets not forget the legends of Suicide Squad, Avengers, Concord, and hell watching any other number of absolute failure multiplats that should probably have never left the drawing board. Hell look at Ubisoft! (I would say the game crash couldn't come soon enough, but it's on. Now it just couldn't happen fast enough)

Now with the Pro, you can get top level PC techs with just 700 bucks: 4k60fps, 4k30 w/ RT, etc. Now with almost all AAA games are on PS or is first on PS, it is giving competitors like nVidia and Intel a run for their money too. Look at a game once called CRPG or Computer RPG like BG3, it's also on PS, so yeah PS have become the cheaper competitor to PC. You're right, PS started with doing their own version of gaming, but once it entered the x86 architecture, things change abit.

Plus none of them are building a rig for $700 to play on even $1000 I doubt anyone would build one for friend like that, $1200 is really lowest starting point and if the person is a friend or family your trying to get them over $1400 or their will be regretting or upgrading often which is a hassle or more headaches in the end.

One thing I always hear pc guys say is that on ps your locked into one store front. Oh we have 5 stores we can go to on pc. All I hear is they only want to use Steam.
They also conveniently leave out the fact their games are all digital whereas consoles can run discs and through that you can sell your games and borrow games, they can’t.
Even if you only use Steam, how many stores sell steam codes? Pretty much anyone not running their own database to download from sells codes from there despite being separate stores. RIGHT NOW consoles have this in the form of where you can get physical media... but that's going away. Didn't Sony get in trouble recently for barring publishers from selling codes through anyone but them?

But I do agree... a $700 PC isn't worth the time but then again I've made my price comparisons before.... you have to add a few hundred for the online fees if you REALLY want the comparison to be even.... $80 for each year you expect to play on the machine... based on what the PSN website says as a price for BASIC service. 5 seems to be my average so its the number of years I use. I would honestly compare to a $1100 PC for this reason. (80$x5 years = $400 to add to that $700 price). After all, the choice at that point becomes are you gonna pay it all up front (PC)? or over time (PS5 pro)?

You can set your max frame rate in game settings or with nvidia control panel to match the monitor to avoid acreen tearing...or use G synch if it's a G synch compatible monitor to get the frames without the disadvantages of Vsynch

I remember a day when Quantum Break was clowned for upscaling from 720p in order to run at higher frame rates and now almost every game is upscaled. Developers are definitely using features like DLSS, FSR, and soon PSSR as a crutch to cover up for poor optimization. PC gaming isn't going anywhere you fool and if it does, consoles will die soon after, because PC is the only thing pushing gaming forward.
So I was right if you playing a game on the PC with high frame rates to match your monitor, it to stabilize the screen tearing. Once you pass the threshold, let’s just say 240 Hz and you’re playing at 300 to 400 frames per second they will be screen tearing. I knew it.
depends on your monitor and the tech features in it these days, but thats the theory which caused the use of vsync for so long. (the game forces itself to your monitor's framerate to prevent that)
@@MegabyteRedSector my point is this in order to play games at a certain frame rate it has to match up with your monitor if it exceeds the maximum capacity of megahertz then you will see more screen and it happened to me because when I built my PC with a 4090 I saw a lot of tearing on a 60 Hz TV compared to my 240 Hz monitor. I think the best way to test a PC is to play Hell divers 2 because it is very CPU and GPU heavy.

Mine doesn't and I dont feel like replacing it.... so I generally put vsync on, both to take a load off my card (if my monitor cant show more then 60, why should it work to do more?) and to avoid tearing.

Price is a factor in buying hardware for personal computer or game consoles unless you're a "Richie Rich" with disposable income. You may know a person or persons like that but make no mistake.. most consumers are frugal and that price aspect could be a make or break aspect to buying products. King Trash Gaming made a comment about the PC world of gaming will disappear. I highly doubt that statement.
As someone that has a 40 series card, I can say fully that frame generation is the future for sure and I can’t wait for it to come to consoles because it really is pretty much double frame rates. The latency issue is basically imperceivable too.
Its the future of AAA at least... what it SHOULD be, however, is just a way to extend the life of hardware in the future. Much like upscaling should be (but clearly is not... just ask how consoles get to 4K)
It is very important to realize there are different types of PC gamers. I was primarily a console gamer until 3 years ago when I bought a pre-built PC from ABS (Newegg's in-house brand). I have my PS5, Switch and PC connected to my 4K 120hz OLED C1, so the best frame rates I can get is 120 which is more than good enough for me. What I love about my I9 and 3090 is I can max out graphics and get frame rates over 60 fps. Although I more than happy with my PS5, I plan on getting the PS5 Pro by the time GTA 6 releases as I want to play it at the best graphics and frame rates I can...and I do not have the patience to wait for the PC port. DWYD!!!!
It dawned on me as you said master chief looks like plastic. But what if that’s intentional so it can run and be comparable on all the systems they release on like a switch 2.
I have a PC and I feel the same with no frame generation. If I get faster than 60, I will add the ray/path tracing and increase the graphical settings. I'm fortunate enough I was able to spend the money to play ultra with path tracing and still hit over 60. If I wasn't able to, PS would have been a decent option for me.
This is the reason i sold my pc and got a MAC. PC gaming is a scam in my opinion. it is too expensive plus you pay all of these money for frames your eyes cann't see. Good video but you forgot to mention Nvidia Gsync and amd freesync exist to get away from stutters and screen tearing. Majority of tvs and monitors support 1 or the other or both. They aren't perfect but it helps match the fps and the hz of the monitor.
I fail to see how what sony is doing with the ps5 pro is any different from what Nvidia is doing with raising the GPU prices. I’m hearing people justifying buying the pro because of Pssr when it’s just another image reconstruction feature that allows current games to run in fidelity mode. If it’s upscaling from a 1080p to 4K it’s impressive but not worth paying more imo. You’re never really going to know the raw performance of the pros gpu. At least with a gpu you can still get that information.

They put the game on unreal engine because that was the biggest issue with the last three halo games having tech issues. This was litterally something the halo community has been advocating for for years. Idk how this has anything to do with PlayStation

On my PC, I can use literally any control device I like to play any game I like, and I can change pretty much on the fly... including devices not designed for the game but I decide either it might work better or "screw it, this should be funny." The level of control you have over your game is something I could never give up anymore and that's BEFORE you get to modding (particular taste for total conversions over here) and the like. Forget graphical prowess.... THAT is what I wish more people could experience.

I guess some of the games announced for the PS5 Pro (or at least with updates on it) won't have a 4k native mode, even though the devs stated they do play that way on them. @@jonathanwessner3456 depends on the mod. For example the System Shock remake has mods that all they do is increase the space you get in the compactor when you trade in junk for credits. Yeah, you are still playing the same game. On the other hand playing a total conversion you are playing a new game BASED on the old one... so you enjoy the game mechanics and are now playing something new with it. iether can be very good, btw. As for those control schemes, you might be suprised. I think my 2 Xbox style controlelrs are $30-40 each? (I'm not sure, they a few years old now.) Wiimotes Ive had forever too.. in fact I found out they are bluetooth in looking to emulate my Wii library so I can preserve the games and play them well after packing the system away. I also have a descent jpystick, but that's all I've wanted myself. You see, you don't NEED everything.... but you can HAVE anything. That's the point. And finally Im not saying that $700 will outclass a PS5 Pro. In fact I would not compare those on principle: a PC you pay the full price up front, a console over the life of the machine in online fees, so I tag on 5 years of that to get a fair scope (so I add abour $400 since $80 a year for 5 years comes to that). Now do I think a PS5 pro will outclass a $1100 machine? No.. I honestly don't. I HOPE it can match it. Cause then you are getting a descent deal in the end on that console. But I don't think it will outclass it.
Frame Generation is an optional feature and you have to physically enable it yourself in the game settings if you want it. It is not enabled by default. Same story with DLSS upscaling. The way you are portraying this, is as if the 4090 forces people to use it which is not true. Very misleading video. You can find video proof quite easily, read below. I suggest you watch a video called "How to actually use DLSS 3 Frame Generation!" by a channel called "Mostly Positive Reviews". You can see he is running Cyberpunk on an RTX 4080 without DLSS or frame gen enabled. This is native resolution + native performance @ 49 - 50 fps with a latency of 43 ms. He then trys turning on frame gen without DLSS (Upscaling with no frame gen). He gets around 85 fps but it adds around 12ms latency putting him at 55 ms. Then he tries both DLSS quality (this is 60% of his native res upscaled) + frame gen. He gets 130 fps, but his latency goes down to 40 ms. In this use case, Frame gen actually gives him 2.5x more performance and less latency than native when using upscaling with it. Now consider that your console + the pro are also using upscaling. With that considered, you cannot deny that a lot of these videos you shown are actually wrong about frame gen. It is clearly not as bad as people think it is, it is just not some magic wand that gives you free fps, there is some downsides. He doesn't stop there either, he also shows you examples for other games on the same video. Now I am going to explain why I never use frame gen. 1. In high motion games such as racing games, it can introduce ghosting artifacts such as the rear lights of a car ghosting further behind the car. You can see this if you watch a video of forza with frame generation turned on to see what I am talking about. 2. It can cause weird visuals in your UI (Menu, HUD, Minimap etc), some people don't care about that but I do. 3. Not all games have frame gen support, so if you are buying a card for frame gen you can pretty much forget about using it for older games that don't have DLSS 3 support. Unless you use frame gen mods, which mod authors are actually locking behind patreon paywalls meaning you have to pay monthly subscriptions. That doesn't mean that some day I will not use it. Remember that frame gen is quite new, it was only introduced in the 40 series of cards (2 years ago). In time the technology could improve, and the way it is implemented in games by developers could also improve. We don't know, only time will tell. But what I do know, is Sony and Xbox will start using it at some point. If you think they won't, you are huffing some mega copium. It is a golden opportunity for them to be able to say "Look, our games can run on 144fps now too". Really think about it man Finally, I really dislike the term "Fake frames". This is very inaccurate. They are AI generated frames, meaning the AI is taking 2 different frames and guessing what a frame would look like if it were between those 2 frames and then inserting that in between each frame. A lot of people are very misguided about this whole thing, hopefully that clears up some of the confusion. If you are going to say fake frames still, then you can also say ps5 and ps5 pro is fake 4k because they aren't native pixels. I don't see you saying that though, I only see playstation fanboys saying "my console can play in 4k".

I agree that going to the Unreal 5 engine from the slip space engine is a better choice. There a lot of problem with the slip space engine that going to unreal 5 makes sense. I never trust pre rendered engine instead of in game engine rendered gameplay. Cortona is a staple of Halo and would go against the established lore of Halo is she was taken out. The RTX 4090 is a developer productivity card. The RTX 4080 or the RX 7800XT makes more sense than choosing an RX 7900XT. Ray Tracing or any other resource intensive process that severely effects online multiplayer performance. Single player performance is a different matter, Single player doesn't require the use of large sized data packets to be sent from personal computer to server and back to the personal computer each time for every packet. Single player uses system self contained resources where as multiplayer involves data packet transmission and receiving back and forth.

This is just my opinion. We've got all the consoles and built a pc 4090/i9. If you want to be a pc gamer, you got to drop the bag or you are better off with a ps5. We bought to play very complex simulation games that are very cpu intensive. Basic games like cyberpunk I bought on xsx and it runs just fine. Not a huge difference between Ghost of Tsushima. PC is a little smoother, but not night and day when we played it side by side on matching LG C1s. Horizon same story. For context, Im not a frame snob though. I play ps5 and Switch the most because the games are better imo.
DF actually recently said the PS5 pro might be the best place to play games. With poor PC ports, poor optimization on PC, blurry FSR, and what not, the pro could actually offer the best experience

I can kinda agree? I mean this is one of those "to each their own places" but for me, Im in the same boat. My monitor and TV support 60 so that's what I want to hit max (more is giving my GPU more workout then it needs) and minimum since that's what I want.
Microsoft has alternative intentions in trying to shove Halo on the Sony PlayStation 5... they know that Call of Duty and EA's Battlefield games tend to sell much higher numbers on their own platform (Xbox and PC and note that Activision was bought out by Microsoft) so all they are trying to do is disrupt the shooter market or they hope to cause Destiny secured a huge fanbase and Fortnite being a third person shooter has become this monster of sales even though it's utter crap. As far as Nvidia... Nvidia has never really changed their strategies for PC gaming but I feel they have felt that sales of their graphics cards are not as high as years ago but I could be wrong because of the PC platform elitists who openly brag about buying the highest end card especially during 2020 and 2021 shortages where prices were higher. Nvidia and AMD both work in similar ways but honestly Nvidia makes more powerful graphics cards and software drivers than AMD and even the old ATI before AMD bought them out in 2006. Microsoft has always been the real disruptor as a company that wants to damage and did damage Sega, Sony and Nintendo's hardware market share by pushing premature next gen jumps and later leading them even when it backfired on them with the Xbox One. Oh and did you know that just some months ago Xbox One had problems updating firmware especially if you owned the original VCR box looking thing? Basically Microsoft screwed up the firmware so when people had to update they were stuck for weeks and months locked out of their console because there was a massive error and there is no way to use Xbox One off-line if you do an off-line firmware update or reinstall and even Digital Foundry did a video on it but amazingly there's few videos of angry Xbots cause most of them were forced to upgrade during that time which may have been the intention all along. Finally... PC... that PC guy is all about the hype... like I said I have built PCs and know specs since late 90s and know very well the real history of "PC gaming" For example I know for a fact that in the 80s the Sega MegaDrive aka Genesis (launched in Japan in 1988 and 1989 U.S.A.) and the NEC PC-Engine aka Turbo GraFX 16 (launched in Japan in 1987 and 1989 U.S.A.) were doing full 60fps in 2d graphics. The Sega MegaDrive did have a few 3d polygon games that did about ten frames per second and were programmed to the MegaDrive 68000 CPU but only released in Japan... I have one for those games in fact iirc it was released in either 1989 or 1990.. Meanwhile back then PCs STRUGGLED to run PC games at anything over 30fps Doom, the original PC release was coded to the CPU and barely ran at 34fps and that's if you had the fastest CPU between 1993 to 1995 and over 8MB of RAM 🤣 🤣 🤣 Meanwhile other PC games like some 3d flight military simulators also struggled to run smoothly because back when those games came out the 386 was the CPU and it didn't have additional math processing so you had to buy an additional chip for that and later the 486 kind of fixed that but it was still slow af and that's before 3d graphics acceleration cards started appearing in retail to consumers around 1994 to 1995 and 1996 where even though those 3d cards existed, most PC platform elitists didn't bother with buying them and the so called big PC game makers like Id Software Basically refused to support or write custom code for 3d graphics chipsets or consoles. Basically the 3DO was the first true 3d game console but the games had weird schedules and as such most had sloppy efforts but they did have real 3d graphics that PCs would cost beyond $1,600 plus in back then money just to run Then in late 1994 the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation launched in Japan and EVERYONE who purchased a Sega Saturn with Virtua Fighter or a Sony PlayStation with Ridge Racer was running a full 3d polygon graphics game at 30fps and no PC for consumers could match it for YEARS. Nvidia's first graphics card actually ran SLOWER than Sega Saturn and their card was released in 1995 and then the 3DFX card was just 3d only meaning it was useless unless you purchased a 2d card... Meanwhile back in late 1994 the price for a Sega Saturn was ¥44,800 which is roughly $450 USD in late 1994 money. And the Sony PlayStation launched for ¥38,900 or around $390 USD again in 1994 and 1995 money which if adjusted for inflation now is way more money than a Sony PlayStation 5 Pro in 2024. In Japan it was reported and photographed that the people buying launch Sega Saturn and Virtua Fighter 1 were late teens and 20 year old plus gamers who also went to arcades, therefore they were really buying it to train at home so they could show up and battle at either VF1 or VF2 tournaments held in Japanese arcades back then so it wasn't kids stuff or "affordable cheap toy" The problem was with Sega of America's 90s management staff who were interviewed and stated that older gamers didn't exist and consoles couldn't sell for $400 and would try to point to the 3DO failure as an excuse... those managers at SoA in the 90s were the ones who caused the downfall of the Sega brand. Meanwhile in Sony Computer Entertainment America they feared that SoA management was right so they went over the Japanese bosses and cut the launch price to $299.99 which didn't make sense because the Japanese were still paying $390 and both the president and vice president of SCEA were "let go" by late 1995 cause they had bad decisions and were costing the company and brand a lot of money. The same thing happened again with different management at SCEA when the PS2 launched in Japan in March 2000 for ¥40,000 or Basically $400 USD iirc and then later by October SCEA decided to cut the launch price to $300 for North America and the equivalent for Europe... PC is a money pit.. I have nice old PCs I built and upgraded but to get me to waste more money on PC parts is rather stupid. Im a pc and console gamer, but yeah i saw that presentation back in 2020. Everyone was looking for the next gen graphic cards and the main thing they did in that presentation was showing how you get these ultra high framerates. Back then i was laughing so hard "who the hell needs 240 frames, i want better graphics with acceptable frames". The 30gen of nvidia was scam cause of the bottlenecked vram. Until today Nvidia fans never understood that they got scammed with that gen.

PlayStation Pro is not supposed to be a cheaper option to PC gaming. since its beginning PlayStation has been all about gaming. Xbox failed because of lack of games and focused on console. Pc is now getting smack in the face. imagine jumping in saying pro is too expensive while paying 1600 for one part / piece of a computer and still struggling to run the same games 2 or 3 years later

1) Playstation at the beginning was about spite with Nintendo. The original system was supposed to be an addon for the SNES which Nintendo stabbed them in the back over it. Without this, you would never have Playstation... period.
2) Can we be sure Xbox failed? Their plan seemed (and has for a LONG TIME) to be about getting their service on every system they can. The only exception seems to be Linux (but hey, they don't want to encourage their data-mining OS to be replaced on PC), but.... I somehow think the Xbox isn't so much failing as being phased out... and has been for a few generations.
3) PC isn't getting smacked by anything.... it's still strong as ever. Can any other platform claim over 20 million users on simultaneously at any given time, 24 hours, every day? And DAILY breaking 30 million (likely 35 million, but Im not about to spend the time to read the chart that close)? Cause Steam alone can claim that. Strong system is strong.
No the only ones getting smacked are the AAA industry, and rightfully so. Lazy devs, flooding the market with remakes, and lets not forget the legends of Suicide Squad, Avengers, Concord, and hell watching any other number of absolute failure multiplats that should probably have never left the drawing board. Hell look at Ubisoft! (I would say the game crash couldn't come soon enough, but it's on. Now it just couldn't happen fast enough)

- But it is now though, when PS switched to x86 architecture starting with PS4, PS became the cheaper option to PC gaming, even more so after PS started to put their AAA games to PC. Now with the Pro, you can get top level PC techs with just 700 bucks: 4k60fps, 4k30 w/ RT, etc.
Now with almost all AAA games are on PS or is first on PS, it is giving competitors like nVidia and Intel a run for their money too.
Look at a game once called CRPG or Computer RPG like BG3, it's also on PS, so yeah PS have become the cheaper competitor to PC. You're right, PS started with doing their own version of gaming, but once it entered the x86 architecture, things change abit.

I got people telling me the 3070 is outdated and to get a 4070, but the card came out the same time as the ps5 and it can't handle games like my console can? And if you didn't know the 40 series is trash since they run the same as the 30 series except for the 4090. Don't believe me? Look up all the videos that came out when those cards where released. The 4060 isn't even worth the upgrade from the 3060 nor the 2060.

Plus none of them are building a rig for $700 to play on even $1000 I doubt anyone would build one for friend like that, $1200 is really lowest starting point and if the person is a friend or family your trying to get them over $1400 or their will be regretting or upgrading often which is a hassle or more headaches in the end.

One thing I always hear pc guys say is that on ps your locked into one store front. Oh we have 5 stores we can go to on pc. All I hear is they only want to use Steam.
They also conveniently leave out the fact their games are all digital whereas consoles can run discs and through that you can sell your games and borrow games, they can’t.
Even if you only use Steam, how many stores sell steam codes? Pretty much anyone not running their own database to download from sells codes from there despite being separate stores.
RIGHT NOW consoles have this in the form of where you can get physical media... but that's going away. Didn't Sony get in trouble recently for barring publishers from selling codes through anyone but them?

please don't build a pc for 700 dollars, i'm sick of hearing these console converts cry on the steam forums cause they try to build some potato pc and then complain about performance. stick to ps5 pro, its a great machine for the price and no headaches with updates, drivers, etc.. let us true gamers do our PC thing and we'll join ya'll on PS5 Pro for any good games that pop up there.

But I do agree... a $700 PC isn't worth the time but then again I've made my price comparisons before.... you have to add a few hundred for the online fees if you REALLY want the comparison to be even.... $80 for each year you expect to play on the machine... based on what the PSN website says as a price for BASIC service. 5 seems to be my average so its the number of years I use. I would honestly compare to a $1100 PC for this reason. (80$x5 years = $400 to add to that $700 price). After all, the choice at that point becomes are you gonna pay it all up front (PC)? or over time (PS5 pro)?

I listened to the explanation of how the feature works in the video (he didn't talk through it so the explanation was all thw card makers). That frame generation thing is a shit way of getting higher frames. You sacrificing too much just to get that somewhat higher frame. Sometimes it definitely is their fault bot saying it isn't in some cases but yet when things happen like a game with bad latency or the visual fidelity is actually worse on PC. If the game is using that feature. Its actually the graphics card that the issue because the thing that you are complaining about is the literal feature of that piece of hardware.

You can set your max frame rate in game settings or with nvidia control panel to match the monitor to avoid acreen tearing...or use G synch if it's a G synch compatible monitor to get the frames without the disadvantages of Vsynch

Answer: PSSR is basically sony's answer to DLSS. In other words: it is meant to make the game run at higher frames, but you upscale the game without any sacrifice. So DLSS =/= Frame generation.

I remember a day when Quantum Break was clowned for upscaling from 720p in order to run at higher frame rates and now almost every game is upscaled. Developers are definitely using features like DLSS, FSR, and soon PSSR as a crutch to cover up for poor optimization. So I was right if you playing a game on the PC with high frame rates to match your monitor, it to stabilize the screen tearing. Once you pass the threshold, let’s just say 240 Hz and you’re playing at 300 to 400 frames per second they will be screen tearing. I knew it.
depends on your monitor and the tech features in it these days, but thats the theory which caused the use of vsync for so long. (the game forces itself to your monitor's framerate to prevent that)
@@MegabyteRedSector my point is this in order to play games at a certain frame rate it has to match up with your monitor if it exceeds the maximum capacity of megahertz then you will see more screen and it happened to me because when I built my PC with a 4090 I saw a lot of tearing on a 60 Hz TV compared to my 240 Hz monitor. I think the best way to test a PC is to play Hell divers 2 because it is very CPU and GPU heavy.

As someone that has a 40 series card, I can say fully that frame generation is the future for sure and I can’t wait for it to come to consoles because it really is pretty much double frame rates. The latency issue is basically imperceivable too.
Its the future of AAA at least... what it SHOULD be, however, is just a way to extend the life of hardware in the future. Much like upscaling should be (but clearly is not... just ask how consoles get to 4K)
It is very important to realize there are different types of PC gamers.
I was primarily a console gamer until 3 years ago when I bought a pre-built PC from ABS (Newegg's in-house brand).
I have my PS5, Switch and PC connected to my 4K 120hz OLED C1, so the best frame rates I can get is 120 which is more than good enough for me.
What I love about my I9 and 3090 is I can max out graphics and get frame rates over 60 fps.
Although I more than happy with my PS5, I plan on getting the PS5 Pro by the time GTA 6 releases as I want to play it at the best graphics and frame rates I can...and I do not have the patience to wait for the PC port.

I have a PC and I feel the same with no frame generation. If I get faster than 60, I will add the ray/path tracing and increase the graphical settings. I'm fortunate enough I was able to spend the money to play ultra with path tracing and still hit over 60. If I wasn't able to, PS would have been a decent option for me.
This is the reason i sold my pc and got a MAC. PC gaming is a scam in my opinion. it is too expensive plus you pay all of these money for frames your eyes cann't see. I fail to see how what sony is doing with the ps5 pro is any different from what Nvidia is doing with raising the GPU prices. I’m hearing people justifying buying the pro because of Pssr when it’s just another image reconstruction feature that allows current games to run in fidelity mode. If it’s upscaling from a 1080p to 4K it’s impressive but not worth paying more imo. You’re never really going to know the raw performance of the pros gpu. At least with a gpu you can still get that information.

The level of control you have over your game is something I could never give up anymore and that's BEFORE you get to modding (particular taste for total conversions over here) and the like. As for those control schemes, you might be suprised. I think my 2 Xbox style controlelrs are $30-40 each? (I'm not sure, they a few years old now.) Wiimotes Ive had forever too.. in fact I found out they are bluetooth in looking to emulate my Wii library so I can preserve the games and play them well after packing the system away. I also have a descent jpystick, but that's all I've wanted myself. You see, you don't NEED everything.... but you can HAVE anything. That's the point.
And finally Im not saying that $700 will outclass a PS5 Pro. In fact I would not compare those on principle: a PC you pay the full price up front, a console over the life of the machine in online fees, so I tag on 5 years of that to get a fair scope (so I add abour $400 since $80 a year for 5 years comes to that). Now do I think a PS5 pro will outclass a $1100 machine? No.. I honestly don't. I HOPE it can match it. Cause then you are getting a descent deal in the end on that console. But I don't think it will outclass it.
Frame Generation is an optional feature and you have to physically enable it yourself in the game settings if you want it. It is not enabled by default. Same story with DLSS upscaling.
The way you are portraying this, is as if the 4090 forces people to use it which is not true. Very misleading video. You can find video proof quite easily, read below.
I suggest you watch a video called "How to actually use DLSS 3 Frame Generation!" by a channel called "Mostly Positive Reviews".
You can see he is running Cyberpunk on an RTX 4080 without DLSS or frame gen enabled. This is native resolution + native performance @ 49 - 50 fps with a latency of 43 ms.
He then trys turning on frame gen without DLSS (Upscaling with no frame gen). He gets around 85 fps but it adds around 12ms latency putting him at 55 ms.
Then he tries both DLSS quality (this is 60% of his native res upscaled) + frame gen. He gets 130 fps, but his latency goes down to 40 ms.
In this use case, Frame gen actually gives him 2.5x more performance and less latency than native when using upscaling with it. Now consider that your console + the pro are also using upscaling. With that considered, you cannot deny that a lot of these videos you shown are actually wrong about frame gen. It is clearly not as bad as people think it is, it is just not some magic wand that gives you free fps, there is some downsides.
He doesn't stop there either, he also shows you examples for other games on the same video.
Now I am going to explain why I never use frame gen.
1. In high motion games such as racing games, it can introduce ghosting artifacts such as the rear lights of a car ghosting further behind the car. You can see this if you watch a video of forza with frame generation turned on to see what I am talking about.
2. It can cause weird visuals in your UI (Menu, HUD, Minimap etc), some people don't care about that but I do.
3. Not all games have frame gen support, so if you are buying a card for frame gen you can pretty much forget about using it for older games that don't have DLSS 3 support. Unless you use frame gen mods, which mod authors are actually locking behind patreon paywalls meaning you have to pay monthly subscriptions.
That doesn't mean that some day I will not use it. Remember that frame gen is quite new, it was only introduced in the 40 series of cards (2 years ago). In time the technology could improve, and the way it is implemented in games by developers could also improve. We don't know, only time will tell. But what I do know, is Sony and Xbox will start using it at some point. If you think they won't, you are huffing some mega copium. It is a golden opportunity for them to be able to say "Look, our games can run on 144fps now too".

Finally, I really dislike the term "Fake frames". This is very inaccurate. They are AI generated frames, meaning the AI is taking 2 different frames and guessing what a frame would look like if it were between those 2 frames and then inserting that in between each frame. A lot of people are very misguided about this whole thing, hopefully that clears up some of the confusion. If you are going to say fake frames still, then you can also say ps5 and ps5 pro is fake 4k because they aren't native pixels. I don't see you saying that though, I only see playstation fanboys saying "my console can play in 4k".

However, 8-16 a month adds up. If you have that Playstation for a year, that $8 a month is $96 over the year. Play for 5 years and Sony has sapped $480 extra cash out of you that you might as well add to the cost of your Playstation for all the extras you get. That's why I say a PC you pay up front... a console you pay over time. Overall though, you are probably paying close to the same. At least you were before the PS5 Pro. Im not so sure anymore

I agree that going to the Unreal 5 engine from the slip space engine is a better choice. There a lot of problem with the slip space engine that going to unreal 5 makes sense. I never trust pre rendered engine instead of in game engine rendered gameplay. Cortona is a staple of Halo and would go against the established lore of Halo is she was taken out. The RTX 4090 is a developer productivity card. The RTX 4080 or the RX 7800XT makes more sense than choosing an RX 7900XT.
Ray Tracing or any other resource intensive process that severely effects online multiplayer performance. Single player performance is a different matter, Single player doesn't require the use of large sized data packets to be sent from personal computer to server and back to the personal computer each time for every packet. Single player uses system self contained resources where as multiplayer involves data packet transmission and receiving back and forth.

This is just my opinion. We've got all the consoles and built a pc 4090/i9. If you want to be a pc gamer, you got to drop the bag or you are better off with a ps5. We bought to play very complex simulation games that are very cpu intensive. Basic games like cyberpunk I bought on xsx and it runs just fine. Not a huge difference between Ghost of Tsushima. PC is a little smoother, but not night and day when we played it side by side on matching LG C1s. Horizon same story. For context, Im not a frame snob though. I play ps5 and Switch the most because the games are better imo.
DF actually recently said the PS5 pro might be the best place to play games. With poor PC ports, poor optimization on PC, blurry FSR, and what not, the pro could actually offer the best experience

I can kinda agree? I mean this is one of those "to each their own places" but for me, Im in the same boat. My monitor and TV support 60 so that's what I want to hit max (more is giving my GPU more workout then it needs) and minimum since that's what I want.
Just give me a good game. I couldn't care less about whether it's 60 or 30.

Microsoft has alternative intentions in trying to shove Halo on the Sony PlayStation 5... they know that Call of Duty and EA's Battlefield games tend to sell much higher numbers on their own platform (Xbox and PC and note that Activision was bought out by Microsoft) so all they are trying to do is disrupt the shooter market or they hope to cause Destiny secured a huge fanbase and Fortnite being a third person shooter has become this monster of sales even though it's utter crap.
As far as Nvidia... Nvidia has never really changed their strategies for PC gaming but I feel they have felt that sales of their graphics cards are not as high as years ago but I could be wrong because of the PC platform elitists who openly brag about buying the highest end card especially during 2020 and 2021 shortages where prices were higher.
Nvidia and AMD both work in similar ways but honestly Nvidia makes more powerful graphics cards and software drivers than AMD and even the old ATI before AMD bought them out in 2006.
Microsoft has always been the real disruptor as a company that wants to damage and did damage Sega, Sony and Nintendo's hardware market share by pushing premature next gen jumps and later leading them even when it backfired on them with the Xbox One.
Oh and did you know that just some months ago Xbox One had problems updating firmware especially if you owned the original VCR box looking thing?
Basically Microsoft screwed up the firmware so when people had to update they were stuck for weeks and months locked out of their console because there was a massive error and there is no way to use Xbox One off-line if you do an off-line firmware update or reinstall and even Digital Foundry did a video on it but amazingly there's few videos of angry Xbots cause most of them were forced to upgrade during that time which may have been the intention all along.
Finally... PC... that PC guy is all about the hype... like I said I have built PCs and know specs since late 90s and know very well the real history of "PC gaming"
For example I know for a fact that in the 80s the Sega MegaDrive aka Genesis (launched in Japan in 1988 and 1989 U.S.A.) and the NEC PC-Engine aka Turbo GraFX 16 (launched in Japan in 1987 and 1989 U.S.A.) were doing full 60fps in 2d graphics.
The Sega MegaDrive did have a few 3d polygon games that did about ten frames per second and were programmed to the MegaDrive 68000 CPU but only released in Japan... I have one for those games in fact iirc it was released in either 1989 or 1990..
Meanwhile back then PCs STRUGGLED to run PC games at anything over 30fps
Doom, the original PC release was coded to the CPU and barely ran at 34fps and that's if you had the fastest CPU between 1993 to 1995 and over 8MB of RAM 🤣 🤣 🤣
Meanwhile other PC games like some 3d flight military simulators also struggled to run smoothly because back when those games came out the 386 was the CPU and it didn't have additional math processing so you had to buy an additional chip for that and later the 486 kind of fixed that but it was still slow af and that's before 3d graphics acceleration cards started appearing in retail to consumers around 1994 to 1995 and 1996 where even though those 3d cards existed, most PC platform elitists didn't bother with buying them and the so called big PC game makers like Id Software Basically refused to support or write custom code for 3d graphics chipsets or consoles.
Basically the 3DO was the first true 3d game console but the games had weird schedules and as such most had sloppy efforts but they did have real 3d graphics that PCs would cost beyond $1,600 plus in back then money just to run
Then in late 1994 the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation launched in Japan and EVERYONE who purchased a Sega Saturn with Virtua Fighter or a Sony PlayStation with Ridge Racer was running a full 3d polygon graphics game at 30fps and no PC for consumers could match it for YEARS.
Nvidia's first graphics card actually ran SLOWER than Sega Saturn and their card was released in 1995 and then the 3DFX card was just 3d only meaning it was useless unless you purchased a 2d card...
Meanwhile back in late 1994 the price for a Sega Saturn was ¥44,800 which is roughly $450 USD in late 1994 money.
And the Sony PlayStation launched for ¥38,900 or around $390 USD again in 1994 and 1995 money which if adjusted for inflation now is way more money than a Sony PlayStation 5 Pro in 2024.
In Japan it was reported and photographed that the people buying launch Sega Saturn and Virtua Fighter 1 were late teens and 20 year old plus gamers who also went to arcades, therefore they were really buying it to train at home so they could show up and battle at either VF1 or VF2 tournaments held in Japanese arcades back then so it wasn't kids stuff or "affordable cheap toy"
The problem was with Sega of America's 90s management staff who were interviewed and stated that older gamers didn't exist and consoles couldn't sell for $400 and would try to point to the 3DO failure as an excuse... those managers at SoA in the 90s were the ones who caused the downfall of the Sega brand.
Meanwhile in Sony Computer Entertainment America they feared that SoA management was right so they went over the Japanese bosses and cut the launch price to $299.99 which didn't make sense because the Japanese were still paying $390 and both the president and vice president of SCEA were "let go" by late 1995 cause they had bad decisions and were costing the company and brand a lot of money.
The same thing happened again with different management at SCEA when the PS2 launched in Japan in March 2000 for ¥40,000 or Basically $400 USD iirc and then later by October SCEA decided to cut the launch price to $300 for North America and the equivalent for Europe...
PC is a money pit.. I have nice old PCs I built and upgraded but to get me to waste more money on PC parts is rather stupid. Most of these moist PC fanboys keep trying to dupe people into buying some crap PC they would never build but that's always been their strategies...
