    The Black Bay 36 is so underrated. It’s basically the Explorer/OP with a highly regulated ETA movement with COSC level accuracy for a fraction of the cost of those Rolex watches even at msrp. I just bought one on a strap in great condition for $1800. That’s insane compared to a Rolex Exp/OP that’s less than 5 years old that go for $8-$10k. You could buy a Black Bay 36 and a Black Bay 58 for less than a Rolex. I did exactly that and added a Nomos Orion as my dress watch. Insane bang for buck luxury 3 watch collection!

    • @olib3
      @olib3 2 года назад +2

      I exactly started like that! But instead of the Orion I got the Campus. After a year I sold the bb36 and got myself an older explorer 1

      Do yourself a favor and get rid of Tudor. I did when I couldn’t get the FXD. It pissed me off so bad I got rid of all my Tudors. Best thing I ever did. Look at Grand Seiko. I’ve bought two and they are absolutely stunning. Tudor is garbage.

    • @brett2396
      @brett2396 2 года назад +8

      @@loganbarr853 seems like you have an irrational reason for not liking Tudor. You couldn’t get one of their watches so now the whole brand is garbage? Tudor is not garbage. Grand Seiko is a totally different kind of brand. One is vintage inspired tool watches and the other is sports/dress watches. They don’t overlap. I love GS but for my tastes I prefer Tudor.

    • @loganbarr853

      @@brett2396 if I or anyone else can’t go into a Tudor AD and get one…. There is an issue. Look at Tudors quality control. The BB58, 925, and the ceramic have had numerous issues. When you spend upwards of 3k on a watch you shouldn’t have any. Period!!!! On a horological scale Tudor and Rolex are garbage compared to GS. They work incredibly hard to earn your business. GS is a wearable work of art. This is coming from a Rolex fan boy. From here on out it GS for me.

    • @brett2396
      @brett2396 2 года назад +1

      @@loganbarr853 you can’t get a lot of things from dealers right now, not just Rolex/Tudor watches. There’s a global shortage on everything so you can’t blame these brands for not having the watches at the AD. Rolex’s history is definitely stronger than Grand Seiko’s. Not to say that there isn’t history there, but most of Grand Seiko’s history stems from Seiko themselves. I think you are just angry at the state of supply chain issues and rising prices of second hand watches. That doesn’t mean the brands themselves are garbage.

    For me, a lot of the attraction to Rolex comes from, in a word, the oyster case. All screw-down crowns, all "everyday" water resistance, no BS. ANY Rolex can handle anything you can, if you will. Additionally, their movements carry a reputation for robustness that is not matched by many other manufactures on the same level. For example you don't exactly hear people going on about how their Calatrava can really take a beating-in fact, I've heard many say the Royal Oak is a delicate, fussy piece. Omega's movements are the only other common ones to have that reputation.
    Oh, and if you want a white gold piece that comes on a bracelet, other than esoteric vintage options and the occasional one-off you're looking at either Rolex, a Tank, or one of like 3 or 4 Omegas. It's...limiting.
    So many watches make you go "yeah, sweet, it's just like the equivalent Rolex, but for x"-an amazing movement with an iffy bracelet, a perfect bracelet but the clasp is good, a great clasp but 14.5mm thick, perfect proportions and a good clasp but 30m WR, etc etc. So many near misses where Rolex pieces comfortably hit on all marks, consistently.
    A clear caseback is the only thing that can drive me anywhere else.

    I have a Rolex. Don’t wear it as often as I should but I do love it.
    The problem I have with the brand is “it’s a Rolex” doesn’t work for me. If you have the money buy a watch from the holy trinity of watches. Patek, VC & AP. Another watch with a fantastic history is JLC. JLC made movements for all three holy trinity brands back in the day. A true watchmakers brand.
    The other problem I have with Rolex is people only buy it because they think it’s going to appreciate in value. F**k off. Buy a watch because you can (a) get it (b) you love it.

There are tons of other RUclips content if you just want straight info on watches in an efficient manner. As to length, if you don't want to watch a whole video, you can fast forward or just not watch. So don't streamline just for the sake of streamlining. I don't really like the idea of alternative watches it will just remind you every time you look at your watch that you couldn't get the one you really wanted. Just buy another watch that you like for what it is. There are a lot of watches I can't afford but I don't try to find a look-alike, instead I browser throug watches in my price range until I find someone I like or just wait until I can afford the one I really want. Pretty much everey Rolex is avalible for a price and if you don't think the watch is worth that price just move on and don't dwell over it.

      This is really old and recycled talk now.. Rolex owns 29% market share of Swiss luxury watches.. to put this into perspective this as much as Cartier, Omega, AP, Longines and PP combined, and more than the entirety of the Swatch group. They retain their value very well because they appeal to so many people and they’re in demand. I know people like you like to downplay Rolex achievements and say it’s simply down to marketing and hype created by speculators and secondary markets. If the product was mediocre no amount of marketing and hype can make it popular.
