In the latest episode of the Mind Shift podcast, "Viral Conversations: Masculinity, Overthinking and Resilience," Erwin and Aaron McManus discuss topics that are not only current but also crucial to our understanding of society and self.
    A Viral Take on Masculinity
Our journey begins with a discussion on masculinity, sparked by a clip from one of our talks that surprisingly went viral, amassing over 4.5 million views. This unexpected attention brought to light the urgent need for more profound conversations on masculinity. We live in a time where the essence of masculinity is often overlooked or misconstrued in media, leading to a skewed perception of what it means to be a man. Aaron and I argue that reclaiming masculinity is essential for men to lead in today's society, to counteract toxic behaviors, and to embody strength, peace, protection, and safety for all.
    The Paralysis of Overthinking
As we navigate through the complexities of masculinity, we touch upon the issue of overthinking, a prevalent challenge in today's world filled with endless options and information. This abundance can often lead to decision-making paralysis, something many of us can relate to. Yet, it's crucial to find strength in the vast pool of information, drawing from it to make informed decisions that align with our values and goals.
Adventures and Misadventures: Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Our conversation then takes a turn towards resilience, illustrated through our personal story of navigating flight delays, cancellations, and the ensuing chaos during a trip to Colorado Springs. These experiences, though frustrating, underscored the importance of resilience, teamwork, and the ability to adapt and overcome challenges. It's a testament to the fact that with the right mindset and people by your side, you can tackle any obstacle.
Commitment and Creativity: The Foundations of Growth
The episode also explores themes of commitment, generosity, and the creative process. We discuss the balance between sticking to your commitments and being flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances. Moreover, we delve into the essence of creativity, emphasizing the need for space and inspiration to nurture new ideas and bring them to fruition. It's about allowing yourself to be open and receptive, creating a mental space where creativity can flourish.
    Building Resilience Through Relationships
Lastly, we highlight the significance of relationships in building resilience. Surrounding yourself with people who bring joy, lightness, and relaxation into your life can profoundly impact your ability to navigate challenges. Close friendships, in particular, are vital for resilience, enabling us to perceive difficult situations as opportunities for growth or enjoyment.
A Call to Action: Embrace Masculinity, Foster Creativity, and Cultivate Resilience
As we conclude this episode, we invite our audience to reflect on their perceptions of masculinity, to embrace the creative process, and to build resilience through meaningful relationships. The journey towards understanding and growth is ongoing, and it's through conversations like these that we can begin to navigate the complexities of our world with a more informed and compassionate perspective.

I find myself in synchronicity with so many of your conversations, so much that as I heard that bit about getting off the plane of false certainty to go create a future I laughed, because today I’m giving my two weeks notice at a dead end job that I’ve been hesitant to leave because “it’s hard out there in the world”. Thank you for dripping so much wisdom and courage into my life.

While there are a few men who are toxic, domineering, and belittling of women - I think it’s important to say those are the outliers not the norm. Most men are NOT toxic, not domineered and ARE supportive of women. Women DO need protection provided by men. 100 percent true.

I remember a talk by ERM maybe a decade ago called Man Up. Some years after, the RUclips channel was reset. I thought back then: wow, nowadays, this title would be a terrible trigger and misunderstood in the years in between. It would be incredible to watch it again.

Thank you, I love listing to you and the great topics you choose for these talks. I think there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding out there which defines a heathy maskulin behavior - I'm just at the beginning of your conversation but really hope you're going to clarify what it exactly means to be a man in his healthy masculine power and not living the wounded or shadow side of it.
