Unknown are letters. Like Unknown, letters alone are useless, but strung together by a writer they directly determine the _reality_ of a story. Without the letters that make up the words of the story, pokemon wouldn't exist.
A note about Arceus’s “thousand arms”: I haven’t seen the Japanese used in the original quote (if it is Japanese and not just something devised by the localization team), but if it uses the word お手 that can actually be translated as “arm” or “hand”. Angels, particularly Michael and Gabriel, are sometimes referred to as the “hands of God”. So with Arceus being the equivalent of a god Pokémon, perhaps what this is meant to mean is the Unowns are the “hands of Arceus”, carrying out its work instead of Arceus getting directly involved
Personally, I think the Unown’s universe shaping powers are meant to be a cheeky meta reference to he fact that the world of the games is literally shaped and “programmed” from lines of code. On their own, each letter is useless, but when strung together the code is responsible for creating everything we see in the digital world of Pokémon.

If we're assuming an atom is represented by the Unown, the obvious candidate from the picture is Carbon, not Phosphor. If you take the rings of Unown as orbitals - the best model we have for the atom - what you have is an atom with two s orbitals and two p orbitals (and compared to the s orbitals they're might less densely packed with unown, perhaps indicating that they're only partially filled). The atom which can be represented in the form 1s2 2s2 2p2? Carbon. The atom from which all biological molecules are built from? Carbon (hence why life on earth is described as Carbon based).
Look at it this way, pokemon can (in-volve) evolve through experience. and through "stones". like thunderstone, water stones. Type in phosphorus stones on google, they look like the ones u see in the cartoons. If carbon was the basis for life on earth , what about spirit worlds within earth. Haaasss....nobody pointed out the fact that the book is specifically following the details of the movie? The very first page is a man discovering the home of that which can create entire realities. So, "creation of reality" ties to both God-like powers and Atoms. Both a mythical and scientific answer. And what is this creator of reality? It's the Unown. The Unown who exist in the reality of Time and Space. The very first thing to happen in the movie is that a man, a simply curious man, had discovered the home dimension of the Unown who are known later for being able to warp reality as they construct themselves in various patterns. The next page is fairy riding along the back of Entei. Much how like Molly rides her "father", Entei. The fairy, is not supposed to be a hint to "fairy type", but rather be the image of cute and sweet innocence. Then the garden with the fairy in it, and the beach with the flowers. If you pay attention the artwork, the garden that Brock fights Dream-Molly in (a fairy that can change her forms, mind you so it would explain this fairy looking different from the others), and the beach where Molly faces Misty, they match perfectly with the illustrations of the book. "ICE" towers? More like "Crystal". As the Unown literally trap Molly within her own dream world, the more scared she gets the more intimidating the crystal surrounding her fantasy becomes. As the page in the book depicts the fairy looking out at the sky as huge towers trap her within. (more on this in a bit) This entire book, of what we can see, isn't trying to predict the later gens or anything. (I doubt GameFreak even thought that far ahead since Pokemon was supposed to end by the 2nd Generation) Instead it's a warning of what happens to those who go looking for the Unown. A prophecy of sorts. Which this happens a lot, happened once in the past, or whatever, this is just what's bound to happen when someone tries to discover the Unown. The Unown's home will be discovered, and whatever innocent soul interacts with them will literally be consumed by the falsehood of a fantastic world created by these creatures, easily making these pokemon additions to the long list of "Creepy Pokemon You Don't Wanna Mess With". The only reason why Molly wasn't literally enclosed in this world (as you'll note with the huge flower around her house gradually closing over the course of the movie) is because Ash was able to make her see and accept the difference between Reality and Fantasy (something a lot of people today don't seem to do). The Unown are suddenly overwhelmed from Molly basically going "off script" with their capturing method and freak out. Now why all this? Why so convoluted if they can just sap her to another dimension? My theory is that the Unown were literally feeding off of Molly's imagination and psyche. First of all, it wouldn't be a first for psychic pokemon. As we known with Dream Eater, the attack that literally eats the dreams of sleeping pokemon and leave them with nightmares. Secondly, as you follow along, you'll note that the Unown are pretty attached to Molly throughout the movie. When she's happy, the world she creates is beautiful and prosperous. When she's scared or sad it becomes cold and intimidating, as though the Unown are expressing her thought process. This whole thing is what the eyes of a child sees and feels. The fun of living in your own imagination, and the cold and scary truth of how utterly alone you could be in the real world. But see, she's not supposed to be scared. She's supposed to just buy into the beauty of the venus flytrap these pokemon have laid out, and let it slowly close around her while she's lost in a world of fantasy. If the flower closed, she wouldn't be able to escape, forever forced to feed the Unown ideas and imagination, feeding them things to create. Even if it means at the expense of slowly starving her (I say "starve" cause I doubt they can conjure food). Likely, had Molly stayed and died here, the Unown would then return to the tiles, awaiting in this tomb for their next prisoner. Further more, as a small note of detail, since the Unown were first originally found in a rocky tomb, I feel that it's likely that either the Unown creates the prison based on whatever the prisoner likes to dream up (For a small girl what could be better than beautiful crystal and flowers? (even some bubbly elements here and there.)) or that when it last happened, they were stopped and imprisoned here, hoping no one would ever release them again. Lastly, I will agree that based on their powers, it would seem likely that Arceus would use them to create the world. But on the other hand, when people say "thousand arms", let's remember that Groudon is only supposed to have two arms and yet still made Mononoke Tendrils of Death in his movie with Jirachi so.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Belief or disbelief rests with you.
Mostly think this comment is awesome and thought provoking but in the jirachi movie I'm not sure we can take that groudon at face value, idk it's been like a forever since i've watched the movie but i think something went wrong in the whole process, probably on a fundamental level

When you write a story, the first thing you do before writing it is to create a beginning and an end. As soon as you have created the beginning and the end, that is when you create your story. The details are created after you know how it's gonna start and end. This is basic story writing knowledge. It becomes a goal of creating working, realistic and logical paths from and with the beginning you have created to the end. This is something you don't underestimate. This is the best way of writing stories. To my knowledge, all who didn't follow this rule of writing have never managed to create a good story in my experience.
@@ReachStudioPro you are absolutely right when it comes to normal stories like a book series or single game, but with a thing like this, you have to understand that they gen 2 was the end. Before the fairy page was a page of spiking crystal towers. Could be Pokemon Crystal, but COULD be generation 5 (right before gen 6). Those could be towers of ice, representing Kyurem and/or its other two forms.
Which would make it Unown Atom (Gen 4), Ice Pillars (Gen 5), Fairy (Gen 6) and Sun over hibiscus (Gen 7). Only odd thing is the page that should be Gen 3 in this progression was Entei.
Unown and their relationship with Arceus for awhile has reminded me of the biblical verse John 1:1 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.' Letters together make words... And Arceus can control them to his desire.
And alchemy is? Alchemy is even less known in japan than Christianity, and considering how widespread Christianity is and how a lot of people think of it first when they think of creation stories, it's easily possible they wanted to draw some aspects of Christianity into the lore when creating the Pokémon creation story.
I mean, Shinto has a tendency to eat other religions, including Christianity, so while it's not super popular in Japan, Christianity has spread it's roots deep enough for that phrase to be almost common knowledge, and seeing's as they definitely modelled Arceus after the Abrahamic God, they'd have definitely read up on that stuff.
"hey, let's reference something from somewhere else, that could make our fan crazy trying to understand it and make them do research on everything" maybe?
Instead of arms being short for armaments, it could possibly be just a metaphor for the unknowns. Since Arceus has the ability to control the unknowns, you could say he can reach almost anywhere in the universe. So you could say they act as his godly arms in a way.
You missed the point that Arceus’ design and name is derived from Zeus who is a greek god which perfectly goes with the pillars etc. also, in the movie it is stated that he creates “the jewel of life” which supports your analysis...
Fang Leone 145 W2D arkhaios means “ancient, origin”. Saying that it means “the ancient one” is a bit of a stretch. On the side note, there is a lot of details about Arceus (like it’s story, abilities, design, etc) which indicates that he is a Creational God with multiple irl myths mashed up. Thus, we will never exactly be sure what his looks/name was exactly based upon. His position, his name, his color-scheme though make me think that these were heavily based upon Zeus, probably the most popular myth-god. Someone could even say that his name was derived from “Arc” and “Deus” which mean “the beginning/origin” and “god” which also makes sense...
The design of Arceus is not based on Zeus (Which should be completely obvious, after all since when does Arceus look anything like a dude?). Arceus design is based on Urquchillay, an Inca god describes as a multicolored lama that is depicted surrounded by a ring in the exact shape of the one around Arceus. Urquchillay was said to protect animals, especially those kept by humans, and increase the numbers of those animals.

BricksTV meant to connect with casual audiences and Pokémon go players around the world and is returning to Kanto in an entirely new format even though the generation 1 games already had remakes. These games are placeholders so they could continue working on generation 8 which will drop next year. This is also meant to test out their abilities to transfer Pokémon to the Nintendo switch. They “remade” ben 10 teen titans powderpuff girls and soon thundercats. All of which are reboots (even though they’re god awful and shouldn’t exist). Maybe the lets go games are hinting at the reboot for the franchise since eevee is getting rebranded as pikachu’s co-mascot. Plus it would still make the ultimate theory true if the games getting a reboot by Gen 8
It kinda did though. Sun and Moon are vastly different than any other main series games. It wasn't nearly as drastic of a reboot as lockstin thought it would be, but it was certainly a reboot.

Here's some theory material for you. What's with the question and exclamation mark Unown? Why do they often appear as some sort of final reward for getting every other Unown? Why did they bother to add two more Unown after Gen 2? And why are their eyes half closed?
Maybe is to give or encourage wondering (question mark) and solving (the exclamation mark). The reason why their eyes are kind of Shut, is because that they were created last of the Unown. Like how they end a sentence. What if Pokegod created them as the last Unown as to help humans with speaking and how to make sentences with *PASSION*!!! or you know.. my theory is false and the game makers were just bored.
Austioh I have to agree in some way. As David Lynch said, people can't bear that reality is illogical so they try to find logic and rules in art, they take refuge in it. This is true, even the most seemingly meaningless movements of art, like Dada p.e., have at least one rule. However, in this case, I doubt GameFreak were thinking 5 generations ahead. After all, they wanted to end the franchise after Gen 2 was done.
@@Austioh Or Pokemon creators could just repeatedly look to religion, historical myths and other such sources repeatedly for inspiration as they need to draw like hundreds of these things.
G is the symbol for creativity, god like power and the generative principle in freemasonry. G is also often connected to the so called "lost symbol" or "lost word", a.k.a. the lost true name of god. The aim of a freemason is to rediscover the lost word. And the other 2 famous symbols of freemasonry are pillars (Joaqin and Boaz) Ultimately, there are 3 pillars, just like there are 3 circles in that triangle where arceus was. Another masonic symbol of divinity is ofcourse the all seeing eye, a disemboidied eye in the center. Just like in the pic with the unknowns.
In Dan Brown's Angels and Demons, they talk about the God Particle. Basically the Big Bang couldn't have happened without an external power. If G is the letter for God (or Arceus) and G was missing from the Creation Atom, does that mean that Arceus created the universe with pure science?
Reminds me of when Pokemon put actual effort into its world-building. It wasn't such a long time ago, but it feels more and more like it was by the day.
First of all, it would be intent not intentionality. Second of all, the myth of Arceus creating the world from spear pillar mirrors the real world Japanese myth of the world being created when the very first gods (whose names I will not mention here for they are complicated and I don't know how to spell them) used a spear to stir the primordial ocean and create Mount Fuji and then the rest of the world. Lastly, 1000 arms of Arceus is obviously in reference to Buddhism as there are many different options of a god with a thousand arms in the religious art for Buddhism, especially in Japan where it is a very popular religion. As a side note, one of the reasons that there is so much religious symbolism in Pokemon and other Japanese media especially from different religions is because it is very uncommon for Japanese people to ascribed to one religion over others. Rather, is very common to mix them. I believe the example I was given was a Shinto birth ceremony, a Christian wedding, and Buddhist last rites. Just some food for thought for all you Gnoggin'rs.
to tack onto the Abrahamic God representation theory: The way that the Unown are arranged is also reminiscient of the Seraphim (the "Biblically accurate angel" meme). It's a being shaped much like that, covered in *eyes*.
I know the fairy in the book could just be a reference to Fairy types in general. But maybe, it could be a very early interpretation of flebebe? That little creature that sits on top of a flower, also introduced around that time. Sure it's not a legendary but it was certainly unseen. And who knows, maybe at one point it was meant to be one?
Creators also go back to past concepts and work on them, just as discarded pokémon designs (tirtouga, shellos...), in-game vague descriptions (musharna, alolan exeggutor...) or anime free-designs (I bet ho-oh and togepi were forced into the mainstream games because of their early cryptic appearance in the show and that movie 3 book could also be used as inspiration for later pokémon designs and concepts).
Imagine if Unknown gets a mega and when it mega evolves all the unknown come together from an atom like in that picture, that'd be pretty cool (it'd be even cooler if it could learn more moves than one)
Well here's what I'm getting at in the anime and lore yes they have a point and the whole connection to god thing makes them pretty cool, the problem is that in game they are useless in battle they only learn one move a move mind you that it's type depends on the user and you might not get a STAM. In game unkown are just a gimmick but with the right move or item they could be so much more, and I get they on their own unkown are weak but come on if your going have us chach all 26+ ?! then give us a reason to other than to fill a unkown dex or stickers for your pokeball.

The centre of the "atom" you showed us has an Unown eye. Perhaps, an individual Unown is just apart of one bigger body? Arcaus could be just a physical manifestation of what it ACTUALLY looks like. And we just can't see it. It probably does have thousand arms and the Unown are also physical manifestations of this?
This can also mean that Arceus has unknown around it ALL the time. Making it's physical body possible. Maybe it's body is a puppet and the true "God" is pulling the strings. Which can explain why it looks mechanical in some ways.
In my opinion, the Fairy kind of has the pattern of Beautifly on her wings. I also thought you were going to say "The Unown are put together into a shape that resembles Arceus!" When Generation 4 remakes come rolling around the corner, we're going to get PRIMAL MEGA FORME UNOWN
I think the parts with gens 6 and 7 were coincidence. The alchemical lion would want to be featured in an alchemy stew, and I'm sure Hibiscus served some purpose in alchemy. You are the expert, though.
Oddly enough there just isnt any relationship between hibiscus and alchemy, where hibiscus is a tropical flora, and alchemy is mainly rooted in modern Europe/Scandinavia. Maybe they just wanted a Pokemon sun god ruling over a tropical area.
I really want them to finally reveal the evolution to Unown in the Sinnoh Remakes, where you have to collect all of them. They can do a thing where some of the Unowns spell out the OT name.
The one thing that's bugging me about this is the eye in the center/nucleus of the Unknown page. Not only does it seem free of a construct (the pieces that give it an alphabetical shape), but it seems to be connected to the rest of the Unknown by some or of power or energy. There's always the concept of the All-Seeing Eye to toy around with too... That being said, I'm going to assume they have nothing to do with Arceus, but instead are imagination based, and that it looks like the robed man is perhaps binding them into constructs (perhaps made of phosphorus) to seal away their limitless power.
I don't watch all of your content but whenever I do watch it, your hair gets more golden and points more upward. Lockstin, are you working towards becoming a Super Saiyan?
not to mention the crystalline structures shown in the book (before the fairy); it's like the war machine that was shaped like a flower... I think I just blew my own mind...
King LuckyDay was thinking the same thing, maybe the creation of the *g* unknown. Until arceus created beings their was no need for the g as there was none to refer to something as god, so the unknown banded together to form a new unknown

Carbon (hence why life on earth is described as Carbon based).
see that makes more sence
Look at it this way, pokemon can (in-volve) evolve through experience. and through "stones". like thunderstone, water stones. Type in phosphorus stones on google, they look like the ones u see in the cartoons.
If carbon was the basis for life on earth , what about spirit worlds within earth. And if phosphorous in this video denotes , "spirit essence"....what if pokemon are spirits? Phosphorous-based spirit forms? And the only way to call forth a spirit is be spiritually tuned, or you somehow gather all the unknowns, and do this possible ritual to summon arcaeus and let him be the one to the judge if earth as of now can be opened to the pokemon world.
That makes even more sense!
This is why I love pokemon.
I also thought it was Carbon

(more on this in a bit)
This entire book, of what we can see, isn't trying to predict the later gens or anything.

While Game Freak probably didn't plan those stories ahead of time, but I bet they picked up the pieces of this book to make those stories.
Or they had ideas that where fully explored later.
+Bryson Minnich They probably didn't go into full details at the time but I'm sure they planned it all or most of it back then.
It looks more like the crystals in this very movie. I am sorry, but no.
Which would make it Unown Atom (Gen 4), Ice Pillars (Gen 5), Fairy (Gen 6) and Sun over hibiscus (Gen 7). Only odd thing is the page that should be Gen 3 in this progression was Entei.

@@chorosso5259 It's Japan. Christianity isn't that big there. It's a possibility, but not likely...
Zeus isn't a creator deity.

Except art is much more intentional, not chaotic.
Much of art is patterns and symbolism.

Add a no to go and you get gone.
or it represents the "evil" Giratina
In Dan Brown's Angels and Demons, they talk about the God Particle. Basically the Big Bang couldn't have happened without an external power. If G is the letter for God (or Arceus) and G was missing from the Creation Atom, does that mean that Arceus created the universe with pure science?

MercuryDjinn3 gen 5 was quite a while ago actually
Thought Gen 7 had the most worldbuilding ever.... or maybe I just watched too many of lockstin's videos
Honestly, if you look deep. All of the games have wonderful world building. You just have to stop and sniff the roses per say or you'll miss them
First of all, it would be intent not intentionality.

There are pillars also in X and Y plus there the story of the Pokemon war that happened in that region
not to mention the crystalline structures shown in the book (before the fairy); it's like the war machine that was shaped like a flower... I think I just blew my own mind...
Lockstin: I'm not saying it was Archeus... but it was totally Archeus.
the unknown actually look like arceus's um rings with sharp things poking out
2:12 nice game theory reference and I love the way you combined the logos.
Gnoggin...could the center webbed Unown be the "G"? Is unique
King LuckyDay was thinking the same thing, maybe the creation of the *g* unknown. Until arceus created beings their was no need for the g as there was none to refer to something as god, so the unknown banded together to form a new unknown
I'm playing through heart gold and when you go to the ruins of alph theres unown on the wall so I translated it and it says escape
It's just telling you to use an escape rope in front of the it
I used to think Unown was a group Pokémon, that they we’re part of one unity. So catching them all together as one Pokémon.
Arceus? God you say?
Well, I'm a 10 year old child. Face my master ball.
We ARE the known (no stealing my idea)
Wouldn't the page in the book with the crystals be a nod to Kyurem?
Nop. Its the crystals that shown in this very movie
@@nixian_zwaylus
Could be both, a Result of the unkown pulling from a "prophecy" and substituting it into their reality at that time.
It may be, but still there is no reson for the unowm to do that...
Btw, with the crystal pillars picture before the fairy, what happened in gen 5? Ghestis froze the Unova region.
Thats why the 5th generation was suks
נוה זיו .Someone sounds salty
Also, maybe learn English if you intend to comment with it.
Liam jones, my main language isn't english as you can probably tell by my name, and i'm doing really good, with a typo one or two times in a message (unless i'm with google translate, because in most of my mistakes i know i didn't spelled it right but i can't recall the truth spell), and i'm alredy better than my parants, all of my frainds and enyone in my environment that didn't lived in a english speaking nation... and i'm getting better every day so please do not judge me. (Written with google translate😂😂😂)
Oh you didn't talked to me, did you? I'm so stupid.
I love both this theory and the music it's so beautiful and calming. Solid 10/10 for sure.
They are stated to react to the arc phone in legends arceus so they still are connected to arceus further solidifcation.
I believe in coincidences.
Coincidences happen all the time.
I just don't TRUST coincidences.
i think you misinterpret the unknown image. i think the unknown cluster with the eye in the centerwas meant to represent god, not the old man in front.
you should become a pokemon professor lol... the vsause of pokemon.
Is his name a tree?
Unknown is also Arceus's Thousands arms!
I remember when silver, gold, and crystal came out and you chasing the dogs around I heard a playground rumor about how if you used the unown in your inventory to spell out entei the next time you encountered him he would let you catch him
