Isn’t it a mutated space virus, also? The existence of a virus implies that there’s something out there that it infects. Something that’s either gone unseen until now, or else Deoxys originally evolved as a virus that infects Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable.

But if you look at the Celebi in PMD, it's a Shiny Celebi. While it is implied to be unique in that universe, too, you can actually find a regular Celebi to add to your team that isn't Shiny. Meaning that even in the PMD Universe where for the most part each individual Legendary Pokémon is unique and powerful in some way, there must still be others out there we don't see.

THEORY: There are multiple of each legendary, but there are the original's and the copies, the HG and SS Arceus isn't the OG the OG Arceus is like, mega strong, all the copies are weaker, the legendary birds on the island in the anime are the OGs and keep the universe from falling apart. The OG Palkia and Dialga keep the very fabric of reality in order, the copies can simply bend it. Arceus could have created copies of itself to keep people from seeking it out and fooling them, or it just wanted kids idk. This could also explain why a ten year old can capture THE DIETY OF TIME. The explanation is that they don't. This also explains the Galarian legendary birds trio, they're copies of the OGs that just grew up somewhere else lol.

plot hole has formed in this thought. i don't think pokemon has kept this lore bit of the legendary birds because the games never bring up this lore bit about the legendary birds. any more and what makes this worse. it could of been just taking liberties and making headcanon when there isn't. which is why i don't take game mechanics, or what the anime or movies say.

You shouldn't. Why? The Johto remakes, Heartgold and Soulsilver prove very well that GameFreak is aware that placing Ho-Oh and Lugia in the Hoenn region broke their previously established lore in Johto. Not to mention its appearance in Colosseum. And instead of ignoring it, they changed the towers to reflect it. The Tin Tower no longer exists, it is only the Burned Tower with no significance. Thus losing the connection to Lugia. The Brass Tower is now the Bell Tower where Ho-Oh is summoned rather than where it lives. So clearly GameFreak accepted the Tower Duo as no longer unique.
And they kind of just ignored the Legendary Beasts lore entirely alongside that. Ho-Oh was hinted towards appearing in Colosseum because of the Legendary Beasts being Shadow Pokémon. I always thought the Legendary Pokemon were just rare, and the ones in the respective games were the true lore-based legendary pokemon. Like how we have legends and stories about many of our own creatures here, but that doesn't mean that exact species is super rare. Rather, it is referring to one individual in that species.

  • @tiredtortoise3396
    @tiredtortoise3396 4 года назад +28

I always separated Legendaries and Mythicals into Pokemon that are just very rare and powerful (e.g. Zapdos, Darkrai, etc) and those who are actually an integral part of the world and cosmology (E.g. Dialga, Groudon, etc). Interestingly, most mythicals are in the former category. There are a few that still cause me problems, however.
Is Lugia being 'Guardian of the Seas' an individual role or a title for the species?
Are the legendary dogs always the same ones Ho-Oh empowered in the fable, or did it perhaps create a number of the trios as its agents?
Is there a species of Celebi or just the same one using time travel shenanigans to show up in the same place as itself?
I once created a sephirotic tree of sorts and a creation timeline for the Pokemon universe, I was incredibly bored at the time.
    Arceus exists.
    Arceus creates Dialga, Palkia, Giratina.
    They creates the world(s).
They create Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza to do the heavy lifting. (Maybe Regigigas, but I doubt it.)
Time for life! First, they create Xerneas and Yveltal to have some context, then Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf (and maybe Zekrom, Kyurem and Reshiram) so these new things can think.
They create the Mew species as test #1. It works, time for some more.
Oh no, all that free will they got might be a problem. Create Zygarde to stop them destroying the world and Ho-Oh to punish them for trying.
What's this, a world full of things with a need for lots of crazy fighting as a core part of their life cycle is a bit chaotic? Time to create some local law enforcement. Alola's guardians, Galar and Johto's dogs, the titans, Tornadus, Thunderus and Landorus, the Swords of Justice because apparently Unova is just that bad, maybe Lugia, Latias and Latios as species of wandering protectors, and Celebi doing the same thing temporally. Or maybe Celebi was Dialga trying to make a Mew of its own, and Hoopa was Palkia doing it too. Argument could then be made for Marshadow and Giratina...
All of the rest are either aliens, created by humans, or just very rare and powerful.
    My headcanon is unassailable!
(As long as I close my ears).

Coming from the future, giving my own thoughts on stuff
I think each legendary has a different state for uniqueness
Let's go in dex order, because fun
Legendary Birds: non-unique. These are basically just extremely powerful Fearows, so they're rarer
Galarian Forme: non-unique, but a different species to an extent. While they share ancestors with the Kantonian forms, they're a different pathway of life
Mewtwo: semi-unique. I think it's entirely possible for there to be multiple clones, possibly by different organisations, since
Mew: non-unique. They used to be abundant, being the mother of all non-legendary species, over time their numbers have dwindled due to evolution of the Darwin kind, but still some remain. Some float around Kanto, while others live on Faraway Islands
Legendary Beasts: semi-unique. I think each iteration of the trio comes from a different situation, and Ho-Oh's trio are just one example of a situation
Lugia and Ho-Oh: semi-unique. I think there's only a couple adults of the species at a time, but they have means of reproduction
Celebi: either unique or non-unique. There may only be one, flying through time constantly to keep up the balance, or they're a species in which only one is present at a time in an area, filling in the gaps left by others joining trainers
The Regi Golems: clumping all five here, non-unique. They're golems, they're "easily" created when needed.
The Latis: semi-unique, same reasoning as Lugia
The Weather Trio: unique. I do think there's more than one of each, but I think it's more just that there's a few, and they're always there. A few Rayquaza, always circling the atmosphere. A few Kyogre controlling the tides and the rain. A few Groudon keeping the mountains tall. That kinda vibe.
Jirachi: I'm just gonna say unique, I'm not really sure with this little one.
Deoxys: non-unique. I'll explain why when we get to Alola.
Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit: semi-unique. I think one will always exist, even if one is full on killed, but I don't think more than one will be in a region at any one time.
Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina: unique. I think that, outside of certain situations where one is specifically created for a purpose (Sinjoh event), there's just the one of each
Heatran: non-unique. Kinda like the birds back at the start, just feels like they exist
Regigigas: unsure. I feel like there'd be more than one, but I'm just not confident enough in that opinion.
Cresselia, Manaphy, Darkrai, and Shaymin: non-unique. I think they're just rare beings, not unique necessarily. Gen 5 tackles it well for two of them
Phione: 100% non-unique, I have like 180 myself over the time I've played
Arceus: simultaneously unique and non-unique. So there's two sides to this one. First, universe creation. We don't know what made Arceus, did anything really, but discounting things beyond the multiverse of the games (so Arceus's egg was the first thing, ever), it's unique in that regard. However, on the obtaining side, as seen in PLA, Arceus can grant a part of itself, a small fragment, to join the world. This is my current interpretation of the 1000 arms, it was 1000 instances of Arceus's body. The "true" Arceus just kinda hangs around outside reality, or wherever that station is, but yeah. Arceus is infinitely collectable
Victini: this is gonna be repeated a bunch from here on. Semi-unique, one always exists, if it dies a new one is created. Let's call this "spirit law" for easity, as it's gonna be for things which embody a spirit more than an element
Swords of Justice (4): non-unique. Just rare, they don't embody anything major, same concept as the birds of Kanto
Tornadus, Thunderus, Landorus, Enamorus: semi-unique under spirit law
Original Dragon trio: unique. There's a hard creation event for them. However, it is possible the black and white stones used in the games aren't the only black and white stones created from the event, just two known of, allowing for more.
Meloetta: semi-unique under spirits law, although I do see multiple existing being plausible
Genesect: non-unique, but unique. It entirely depends how many were made, same as Mewtwo to an extent.
Xerneas and Yveltal: unique. I do think that it's possible for there to be more than one, however I think one needs to disappear fully for another to be active.
Zygarde: semi-unique. It really depends how many cells and cores there truly are. Some could argue each core and cell are their own zygarde, so it's really non-unique
Hoopa: semi-unique, partially spirit law, partially I think more than one exists, but each aren't aware of others
Diancie: non-unique. I see them as somewhat a "queen bee" situation, where they'll just kinda happen instead of a carbink under the right conditions
Volcanion: no clue. I'll say unique just because I don't know what's better fitting
Type: NULL/Silvally: semi-unique, there's atleast 3, I could see more being made with care after though
    The Tapus: semi-unique, spirit law
Magearna: unique, only one was made, although I imagine that replicas were designed after it was discovered
Marshadow: semi-unique under spirit law, I think
Zeraora: non-unique, it feels like a rare species more than anything else
Now for where things get controversial. Alien Species.
I didn't answer Deoxys earlier, that's now. Deoxys, all Ultra Beasts, Cosmog and evos, Necrozma, I think are non-unique. I think they require specific circumstances to exist, whether DNA evolving on a rock or just specific alternate realities or worlds, but regardless, these alien beings are plentiful, we just don't know where to look
Meltan: non-unique, like zygarde cells, they're uncountable
Melmetal: non-unique, but extremely rare due to requiring a lot of Meltans to form
Zacian and Zamazenta: semi-unique. I think they're likely similar to the beasts, in that they're not one of a kind, but have certain birth conditions. These ones are rare, requiring something creating a hero of them
Zarude: huh? I got no clue, this thing never made sense to me
Eternatus: semi-unique, same concept as UBs
Kubfu: non-unique, just a rare species
Urshifu: semi-unique, while Kubfu is rare already, without someone to guide the evolution, it's extremely hard to know what to do
Glastrier/Spectrier: non-unique, I think they're just kinda, made when needed
    Calyrex: semi-unique, spirit law
That's all of them for now. Maybe someday, we'll know for certain. Until then

Here's my take on all the legendaries, considering both Game lore and a bit of anime to complement. I'll separate the 2 if they conflict with each other, also I have to mention that moves seem to follow a different lore from the main anime (hell the anime seems to follow a different continuity, at least 3 different ones).
Legendary Birds: They aren't unique, confirmed by being in multiple appearances game wise and anime wise, some spin offs even have eggs. They seem to influence the weather to a little degree, but it seems that a specific Trio of them have a sginfinicant effect on Kanto.
Mewtwo: It seems that in anime and in games there are at most 2 of them. One was the Team Rocket one and the second it seems to have been an attempt to recreate the experiment of Mewtwo, which resulted once again wrong.
Mew: at one point there could have been multiple, now extremely rare.
Legendary beasts: Originally created my Ho-Oh, there use to be a single trio but nowadays either, they reproduced, or Ho-Oh was jealous of Lugia's birds so it made more of them.
Ho-oh and Lugia: In the games it seems that there are only 2 of them, thanks to the anime it seems they have the capacity of reproduction.
Celebi: Likely one of them but it's multiple appearances can be explained by just being the same from another point of time.
Regis: Made by Regigigas, it seems to have the capacity of making multiples.
    Jirachi: Singular
Deoxys: Multiple, since it came from space there could be more.
Eon duo: In the games it seems to be optional to capture them so they being in multiple regions can be attributed just traveling to different regions. However since in the anime they've shown to be multiple sets of the couple is likely is the same for the games.
Weather Trio: Is likely they are 1 of each, the explanation on why they appear on 2 different regions can be attributed to the fact that capturing them in their games isn't mandatory so they just traveled to another region to rest. Raquaza being shiny and normal in the anime is explained by Hoopa's rings since they can travel through different dimensions.
Lake guardians: Is likely there could be more of them, but until proven otherwise there's only 1 of them.
Manaphy: it seems to be able to reproduce, to make more of them, but it usually makes Phiones, perhaps there can be only one at the time.
    Shymin: Multiple
Creation Trio: Only one of them per universe, Arceus seems to be able to give birth to another one if it so desires, however this is likely done to prevent someone of capturing them and mess up the entire universe.
Cresselia, and Darkrai: Supported by anime and games to be multiple each since they are counterparts.
Heatran: Supported by anime and games to be multiple of them.
Reggigigas: Supported by anime and games to be multiple of. At most there are 2 of them but there could be one for each continental plate of the Pokemon world.
Arceus: One single entity across the multiverse, perhaps what we interact with is just an avatar.
The entire fifth generation of legendaries sans Genesect: One of each. Lore wise and gameplay-wise there has been only one of each showcased and are always treated as individuals. Only in the anime Reshiram and Zekrom seem to be conflicting, this can and should be counted as a case of anime timeline =/= movie timeline.
Genesect: Multiple but limited. Experiments of Team Plasma.
Aura trio(didn't knew this was their name): Only 1 of them, Zygard is special case, but is likely that he monitors the entire world with Kalos it's main area of operation, it's presence in Alola is likely due to its unusual amount of Ultra wormholes.
    Diancie: Chosen among the Carbink.
Hoopa: Could be multiple across the dimsions, only one per world.
Volcanion: Little is know, could be more but until now is unique.
Magearna: Unique, perhaps more can be crafted.
Marshadow: Little is known it seems to there be only one.
    Zeraroa: perhaps one per universe.
    Meltan and Melmetal: Multiple
Type: Null: confirmed to be at least 3 of them
Sylvally: only 1, depends of player's action if there's more.
    Island deities: Unique
Cosmog, Cosmoem, Lunala and Solgaleo: Multiple, they seem to guard the ultra space, likely one per universe but can reproduce to make more.
Necrozma: Multiple across the dimension, only one per world.

  • @MineNAdventurer
    @MineNAdventurer 4 года назад +3

My idea of this reasoning is that *specific* legendaries that appear twice move there temporarily. I mean I'd feel that a legendary pokemon being in any region would be huge no matter what... But not a single person mentions Groudon being in Jhoto. So my theory is that they don't know they moved there, instead they travel, possibly underground or some other way. Also pretty sure that the shiny Rayquaza is an alternate universe rayquaza. Cause Hoppa is said to be able to open portals to other universes. But specific Pokemon like Entei, Groudon, etc. travel to different regions to either explore or because they are called like how the seafoam islands are said to move around. But that doesn't mean there aren't multiple legendaries anyways like how Arceus literally creates a new Palkia, Dialga, or Giratina for us.

I wish the video went over the pokedex entries that implied or explicitly states that some of them were a species or an individual. Like how Terrakion, Virizion, Cobalion seem to be individual pokemon who became known as legendaries for their deeds and a new Entei is apparently born every time a volcano erupts. The original legendary beasts were created when Ho-oh revived pokemon that were presumably different prior to that point but likely reproduced afterwards, which is presumably something the musketeer legendaries can do too.
Arceus presumably had to make an entire universe to make a double of Dialga, Palkia or Giratina so I wouldn't really count that as them no longer being one of a kind as far as one per universe goes.

Legendary or not, it is hard for a pokemon that is naturally found around level 50 to defeat a pokemon that high level. Also, Ash's Pikachu is practically an anime protagonist by itself so it has that "I am more special and powerful than anyone of my species should be" aspect.

So what if Legendaries work kinda like Darkseid from DC, or Demon Lords from Digimon?
As in, there is ONE Core/Main/True version of every legendary that is directly related with whatever aspect they seemingly related to, while every other instance of that Legendary are just avatars/echoes of them that are less powerful and not as connected to the fundamentals of reality.
So going with that logic, the bird trio in the Movie would be the Main versions that are actually connected to nature, which is why capturing them leads to devastating results, while the birds caught by Frontier dude and the players in various games are just avatars.

Even in the legends itself says that the old Solgaleo and old Lunala married then gave life to a new Cosmog. So like every century or half century there's a new Solgaleo or Lunala in Alola that governs then finds a mate in Lake of Sunne/Munne.

My interpretation is that there are two forms of legendary pokemon. There are the god-like forms, and then the pokemon avatars of them. That's why the evil teams never try to capture the legendaries with a Pokeball. Only the avatars can be captured in pokeballs. They're very powerful, but they don't have reality-bending powers. They're boons to the players and a bit of the legendary wanting to have some fun. For example, in Diamond, Cyrus has to use the red diamonds to capture Palkia because Palkia only has the powers to create a new world, when they're not captured. As a gift for saving it, Palkia allows the player to capture it (after proving themselves in battle), while the true form goes off to do Palkia things. The battle frontier captains have done the same thing. Since at least the stories of the games don't happen at the same time, after the player captures their avatar, the true form travels to another region, looking for someone worthy. Arceus temporarily gives extra power to the avatar the GHSS trainer has on their team, and uses that to create a new avatar of whichever of the Sinhoh trio the player wants.
9:36 And Lockstin, that's just actual real-world theology stuff with a pokemon reskin.

The frontier brain didn't catch Articuno. If I remember rightly, it just came to like him so it hung out there a lot.

It's STATE, by the simple fact of multiverse existing, in some multiverses there are MANY legendary of one species, while in other there are ONLY ONE of each legendary or even NONE of some species of legendary pokemon.

Interesting point. Of course that means there are some universes where the Legendary Pokemon are literally made of spaghetti, but that doesn't invalidate your point.

@@MysteryMachineXIf we get such an wide definition, the tricky thing is: how to determine it's still a pokemon world, when you say "0K here it's pokemon, but there it's not pokemon anymore. "
Hey, god is made of spaghetti 😏 (pastafarianism).

I feel like certain legendries are unique such as Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina (except for alternate dimensions) since they straight up created the universe while legendries incharge of elements, ideas, etc have multiples.

Legends Arceus, all but confirming the Arceus we get is indeed a manifestation of a larger deity and not unique: *BUENOS DIAS*

the pokedex entry in diamond talks about arceus shaping the universe with its thousand arms. i have to assume that the arceus we catch is just one of the thousand arms of a greater being and it shapes the multiverse, where each universe gets an arceus when it's created.

Well, mewtwo is created in a lab, so technically is almost one of kind until it meets another mewtwo created in a lab by another organization that considered going after the other mewtwos too time consuming and expensive than just creating a new mewtwo from scratch.
