Tom Jones (Sir Thomas John Woodward OBE) is a living legend! I've loved his music for decades, he sang (and still sings) so many great songs. 💗 Thanks Charlie for your fine reaction. 🙏
Tom has had an amazing career . He is Welsh and the son of a coal miner. Wales is known as “The land of Song”. He has sung with all the greats from artists from the 60s to the 2000s. He had his own TV show from 1969 to 71 and sings many different genres including POP, R &B, Soul, Country. He did not only sing in this style. He was a phenomenon and was considered an anomaly due to his voice and ability be a musical “ shapeshifter “. He has had many hits , from the 60s to the 2000s, won many awards, and recently had a number 1 album in the UK at the age of 80. He still tours, and is a judge on the UK version of The Voice. To cap it off, he was knighted by the Queen and is now SIR Tom Jones. Not bad for a working class boy from Wales.
Frank Sinatra once said that he don't know how and why tom sings like he does as he will just burn out is own voice out at a early on in his career if he carry's on like this, and he's still going strong lol
Soft or loud, low or higher keys...Tom can always convey/color emotion into his vocals...Bobby Hatfield, Karen Carpenter, Meatloaf, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot and some of the greats excel at that.
If you want to hear an interesting contrast- Tom Jones used to have his own show. He had Janis Joplin on once where they sang "Raise a Hand". You should find that and listen to it. :) I saw it when it happened and was pretty wowed by them both.
I don't think anybody else that I know of could sing this song better than Tom Jones in any era of music, it's his tone and mood for the music, this is my favourite, I have this on CD it's not as good as this live performance. 🎄🍷👍
To further illustrate what our learned host is saying about Tom’s voice placement being an operatic approach, listen to Tom singing ‘Delilah’ here with Pavarotti: ruclips.net/video/1fpT6ERcH38/видео.html And with reference to Tom’s approach being found in musical theater, listen to him sing this song from the musical Matador which began as a concept album with Tom singing the lead role: ruclips.net/video/BaID94z9m5k/видео.html
Amazingly, we compare him to opera and musical theater singers, but he had no formal music training. A working-class lad; married with a new baby at age 16.
Wow. Loved your take on his techical singing methods. Would move to hear your take on the excellent harmonies of the technically genial compressed head voice/falsetto of Barry Gibb in Too Much Heaven. He and Tom Jones were contemporaries
I really appreciate the "technical" information; so, so much better than seeing someone watch a video straight through and say "I really liked that. See you next time" Tom Jones had amazing pipes, for sure. But back in the day, we didn't see performers often, it was mostly just vocal recordings. Personally, I always thought his visual delivery was rather over-blown, like an actor hamming it up. There was however, no denying his amazing vocal delivery. I do think performance has changed greatly since the advent of the music video. I still remember when MTV first came out; I hated it, found it very distracting. I wanted to hear not to see. Today, the visuals can convey much of the emotion that previously had to come from the actual sound.
Great reaction. This performance was stellar. Could you please react to Righteous Brothers live performance of Unchained Melody from 1965? It's Bobby Hatfield's solo. Thank you.
I grew up with Tom Jones. The other thing about Jones was his soulfulness. Any singer worth his salt needs that, but more challenging is to have the voice and the technical ability to express that. No doubt, Tom Jones was unique. You should see some of his other performances. The passion. Just off the charts. I Who Have Nothing ruclips.net/video/I8Q4vpE9DAs/видео.html Really enjoyed your analysis. Far better and more informative than the majority online.
Its really good to hear your comments about the his vocal tone..also his baritone voice ...(now tennor voice.).its unique ....enjoyed your rendition of his scale of voice..some of your audience like myself.... want toledrn about the technical side...we can read the words+ understand that aspect....insight ...
This live version is better than the recorded version of this song, The BBC orchestra were spot on and should be praised for Thier rendition of this song, I think that this was one of Tom Jones best performance's.
A comment back then that tom "Belted it out ' was contredicted by another countryman from the land of song Wales. the great welsh singer shirly bassie. Toms a singer, he sings? And learned his craft, didnt belt it out .
You could still have music like this today IF people didn't cream in their jeans about the current crop of autotune riff thieves that pass them self's off as artists protected by the so called dj's who haven't got a clue about real music. If they would not play the crap played by hacks and just played real music things might change . Crap is crap played by white , black or Chinese people if its bad say so .

Thank you!! 💗
How wrong mr Sinatra was😊😊😊😊😊
Say what you want but the man has soul!
So Rich!!
1967 Tom Jones...Sang his heart out for us 💋🏴
And he can still do it today!

His voice is a force of nature
And there’s a welsh female version Shirley Bassey.
LIVE and perfect pitch...and decades before autotune. Tom is one of the GOATs
Watch him sing at 82 on Voice UK. Still has it.
This is my favourite Tom Jones song. 💜💜💜
This is what you might call putting your whole heart and soul into your singing.
No auto tune,, Beautiful
Able to convey emotion is a natural talent which Tom has in abundance and along with the powerful singing voice is just pure richness
Tom was never trained vocally. What you see and hear is what you get. Brilliant.
Frank Sinatra once said that he don't know how and why tom sings like he does as he will just burn out is own voice out at a early on in his career if he carry's on like this, and he's still going strong lol
Like Shirley Bassey, also from Wales, here aged 74: ruclips.net/video/AWRO2aZixy8/видео.html
And he’s in his 80 and sounds so good
Soft or loud, low or higher keys...Tom can always convey/color emotion into his vocals...Bobby Hatfield, Karen Carpenter, Meatloaf, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot and some of the greats excel at that.
And it was a live performance. Live!
The master tom jones showing how to walk on, with a live orchestra and smash it
Tom Jones came from near the same area of Wales as my grandparents. The men sang in choirs etc most of their lives. Great job by the way and thanks.
If you want to hear an interesting contrast- Tom Jones used to have his own show. He had Janis Joplin on once where they sang "Raise a Hand". You should find that and listen to it. :) I saw it when it happened and was pretty wowed by them both.

Sir Tom Jones will be 82 in June and he can still do this song.

Tom had incredibly popular regular shows on both UK and US TV where the top stars in the world regularly appeared..
He doesn't have any 'technical information' AT ALL!🤦
Performed live on the Dusty Springfield show
Great reaction. This performance was stellar. Could you please react to Righteous Brothers live performance of Unchained Melody from 1965? It's Bobby Hatfield's solo. Thank you.

🏴🔥🔥🔥 The Voice 🏴🔥🔥🔥
His peers called him the voice for obvious reasons. Amazing vocal talent and still singing and sounding great at 80
That is what you call a singer
By the way. THIS IS NOT A PRE RECORDING. It is a live performance before a live audience for the Dusty Springfield Show.
Its really good to hear your comments about the his vocal tone..also his baritone voice ...(now tennor voice.).its unique ....enjoyed your rendition of his scale of voice..some of your audience like myself.... want toledrn about the technical side...we can read the words+ understand that aspect....insight ...
Baritone lolololo lolololo what? He was a full tenor
Amazing voice
Simple and strong
This is a live performance. Amazing singing by fellow Welshman. 🏴
I would like to see you react to something performed by the man who wrote this piece.
Not a criticism but his background is welsh songs and singing hence the voice , tom was and is his own style, recognised as such.
Excellent reaction - thank you, learned a lot.
Ahhhh singing live those we're the days
Another song you can react to is I (Who Have Nothing).
A very solid review and reactuon!
DELILAH really shows his pain too
It only gives you the sound that his heart is bleeding
Tom is singing live
Tom was an alpha...every guy can see that.
When Tom walked into a room the testosterone levels rose. Sounds crazy, but he still has a power about him in his 80s.
Raw talent
This live version is better than the recorded version of this song, The BBC orchestra were spot on and should be praised for Thier rendition of this song, I think that this was one of Tom Jones best performance's.
ART AND GARFUNKAL" BRIDGE OVER TROUBLE WATER"
Got his inspiration from Al Jolson, Check out his Kraft Music hall Old Man River to understand why.
Tom is original
I like your of the singer and the performance.
Tom still sings like this in 2023 aged 83...!😊
Good one.
Please Check out Sir Tom Jones on *The Voice UK* on which he is a Judge,, He sings THIS song with a contresant whos dad wrote This song#####
A comment back then that tom
"Belted it out ' was contredicted by another countryman from the land of song
Wales. the great welsh singer shirly bassie.
Toms a singer, he sings?
And learned his craft, didnt belt it out .
It’s a live version of the song not recorded 👍🏼
i love the song i know by him
Who doesn’t love Tom Jones?
❤️🙏🏻🎶😎
There is one singer I know of, today, who has this wonderful baritone voice--Patrizio Buanne.
The man is incredible.
For me one of the best crooners was Dean Martin.
You could still have music like this today IF people didn't cream in their jeans about the current crop of autotune riff thieves that pass them self's off as artists protected by the so called dj's who haven't got a clue about real music. or shirly bassey
You're right. Nobody sings like this because nobody has the talent. Pity.
Here's his and my Welsh compatriot Shirley Bassey, aged 74: ruclips.net/video/AWRO2aZixy8/видео.html
Seems you like the sound of your own voice more than his
Check Philip Arabit and give your reaction.
not baritone -- tenor ...
a male barbra streisand
Not a baritone lol Jesus Christmas he's a tenor
Very annoying that you kept stopping the vid and killing the momentum of the performance. I removed my thumbs up.
