She would have lost even when she was Aretha Franklin....The winners of those talentshows are always young, nice persons with sad stories....they don't surch for talents, they only want us to look til the end and sell as much merchandise as possible.
I suspect these talent shows choose the 2nd-best whom they feel need the help, whereas the very best will make it anyway which is why the judges don’t choose them.. See also in the case of Sally Barker (or Susan Boyle)

I have never heard this artist before..Nina is an all time favorite..this woman completely captivated me I began singing ballads at the age of 12..I Have always loved ballads this lady simply floored me .I am 73 years old yet singing only when the mood strikes..she makes me want to come out of retirement 😊 Bravo soar high my sister.. hats off to Nina Simone for composing this beautiful song.
I was so impressed by her voice I ordered the mini album from UK because it was not available in my country. That time (10 years ago) I thought she will be played in the radio soon but it did not happen. So good to see that the coaches realize and honor her voice today.
Unlike most performances, this one was not filled with pretense and artifice. It was authentic and personal. Her emotions and personality shone through, and she had the voice to pull it off. She may not win the entire competition, but her "For All We Know" was delivered the way it should be and it was wonderful!
