I know everyone keeps saying this was such a magical moment for Peter, but think how amazing it must have made Tom feel as well. He is in his 80's, and has had (still has?) A long wonderful career in music, but as an old man it was probably so wonderful for him to sing with an old friend's son. He will always remember that for the rest of his life.

It can't be overstated just how important Lonnie was in Brit Rock/Pop with so many wannabes first picking up a guitar to emulate him, the Beatles et al. Remember, Lennon had first started with skiffle and Macca joined him. He set so many on the road to stardom.
Men don't really start losing their voice until they are in their 80's/90's as long as they keep using it. Women lose it so much earlier even when they use it regularly. It's really not fair.

Some years later after Tom hit the big time they became friends and at Lonnie's house near London, he pulled out his old record and said "you should do this" Rest is history.

I've watched the blind auditions of The Voice UK on YT from the 2012-2013 to the more recent ones, and the band and audio crew of the UK version always struck me as insanely good musically as well as in sound quality and balance
@Arghishable I've always said you need to be a quality musician to make it as a session musician. More so than to be in a chart topping band. The vast majority of these guys and girls are extremely good at what they do.

@@joshuaamadeusishak1887 Not to mention that the producers knew who Peter's father was (it was in his video bio) and will have known that Tom performed one of Lonnie's songs, so would likely have forewarned them. I'd guess that Peter also practiced it in advance of the audition on the off-chance that a situation like this might come up. As an aside, without wanting to sound conspiratorial, watching the way that the other judges were encouraging Sir Tom to hit the button without hitting their own does suggest that even if Sir Tom hadn't been briefed, perhaps they had. Particularly when you consider Will's comment about this being "magical" came across as a little bit forced. Sir Tom's apparent surprise at Peter's comment about playing it on the piano does, at least, suggest that Sir Tom himself wasn't briefed in advance.
I grew up listening to Lonnie all the old songs my dad had all of them . Si glad to see his son is also singing great voice as well . Like Father Like son .
This man is Icon, Legend. You can see it in Toms eyes when he is looking at Peter..this is a moment they will treasure forever. Tom, that is why you are a Sir.
Meanwhile, Tom lets his own son starve and be homeless because Tom feels like his Son's mom swindled him. That has nothing to do with the son and Tom should help the poor boy who literally has to busk in the streets. Tom gives one son everything and the other one nothing. So mean...
This is the duet in the Voice that will be remembered for a long, long time. Tom Jones, you are incredible not only as a singer but as a man with a kind, humble and grateful heart. That wasn't an audition, that was a pure magical moment. As I'm typing, he said the words I was going to type so I guess I won't do it. That had me in tears. I had a crush on Tom Jones back in the early 70's. His career was hot at the time, and he proved here that he still has that same beautiful voice from so long ago.
His rendition back in the day should go down as one of the classics, and never to be topped. Having said that, this version has a depth of feeling only an older singer with his experience could produce. Both gave me goosbumps. Well done Tom!

The contestant was a half-step behind while Jones had the band knowing what was going on because he set the tone, so to speak, just my own thoughts on it. I like how the contestant finally saud "F^$# It" though and let himself go ahead to do his own thing with Sir Jones.
There are great singers and then there are legends. Jennifer Hudson looks at Tom Jones and you can tell in her expression, she's looking at a legend singing.
Wow. Congratulations
So true
The soul in his voice is just...
Same thing with Oly Murs. He is just sitting there taking it in. Not many performers have a voice that strong, let alone a presence and career as that.
Jennifer will be in that class one day
Peter’s smile when Tom was telling him a story about his dad 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Hello Cara-Marie thanks for your comments and support I really do appreciate❤️
Im so glad that I grew up when great singers like Tom jones were performing
I love how Peter says "That's my Dad" with a lot of proud and love! This audition made me cry 💕

@@erikhoppenbrouwers3036 Tom knew before he hit his button who it was. It's pathetic to try and fool us into thinking this was all spontaneous.

Yes, made me cry too!!! Beautiful moments!❤
Sir Tom Jones sings better today, at his age, than most young recording artists we have today. Simply a wonderful moment.
So true. I will be seeing in in October in Texas
🎯💯💯💯💯🌟
Es verdad es una gran voz inigualable como la de Elvis Presley
there are artists who are like good old wine, the older it gets the better this one is
AGREED
Right away Tom remembers his father. But this guy is already a pro.
Lonny was a big name/still is to everyone at that time..
@@marmite. I would probably need to look up some of their songs, but I've certainly heard of Lonnie Donegan & The Springfields. John Peel mentioned them in one of the guidebooks he wrote, about Supermarionation, setting the scene for the times.
@@DavidBDavis-lz7bt Guess you're not a Brit, David.... Lonnie Donegan was huge in the UK, 1956 - 60, the reason so many kids picked up a guitar, an influence on all that happened behind the rise in the 'Invasion' and later Brit pop. The Beatles, Stones, Floyd, you name them, all acknowledged that.
I've seen this many times, but I still cried today watching this, and I'm a dude who normally does not cry. I imagined how Tom Jones felt singing with his friend songwriter's son and how the son felt singing the song his dad wrote for Tom Jones, the wonderful "I'm never gonna fall in love again" classic hit which was HUGE when it came out. And yes, as someone said below, I believe Tom Jones was crying and fighting back tears as he sang. Jennifer Hudson saw this and was supporting Tom Jones to get through the emotions. She cheered him on. Tom Jones is a legend. I love his voice, which he preserved beautifully.
But the song wasn’t written for Tom Jones because Lonnie Donegan originally released the song in 1962
The love in toms eyes when he sang with him was like 2 old friends who lost touch reconnected for just a moment ❤ that hits the soul different ❤❤
Hello amazing fan.
It has come to my notice that some of my fans thinks I was the person who died. Late jones was The one who conceived the twist on Romeo and Juliet with composer John Donald Robb.
He died 11th August, of cancer in his home in Sharon. I’m still alive and much healthy.
Thanks dear fan…
One of the best moments ever on any version of The Voice.
Truly heartwarming to see the beautiful exchange between the two musicians with a father & songwriter in common.
I'll second that emotion!
What a truly beautiful moment. Tom's voice gets better and better
No. On TV period.
@@rogerlephoque3704 I agree!
What a professional band. After hearing the first verse, the band comes right in and follows along!
Yeah, noticed that and also, just for an instant at 9:03, the look on the bands directors face when he knew the duo had aced it.
I've watched the blind auditions of The Voice UK on YT from the 2012-2013 to the more recent ones, and the band and audio crew of the UK version always struck me as insanely good musically as well as in sound quality and balance
Professional 💪💪
@Arghishable I've always said you need to be a quality musician to make it as a session musician. More so than to be in a chart topping band. The vast majority of these guys and girls are extremely good at what they do.
Right!?!?!? The drummer knew just when to jump in. Absolutely loved that
Incredible and magical moment...❤❤🎉🎉
When Tom stood I became very emotional. And the respect and awe Jennifer showed, shows what a generous, humble person she is.
Indeed, humble. That was a sweet, respectful look of a fan admiring greatness.

You don't know there was no warm up it could have been planned
Another singer who does that is JHud herself. The girl need no warm up

Yes he is and after a few drinks of red horse the karaoke goes to Delilah and everyone sings!!
When Tom turns around, you know you have something special 👏🏻
Somethings are meant to be. Like the others said, he heard something in that voice that struck a chord with him.
The look Tom gives him when he starts singing at the piano is so beautiful. He's so proud for this man and probably sees his father in him
I am so glad that it was only Tom that turned around like it was meant to be

I just wanna shout out to the musicians in the back. They know every song people throw at them. Even when it’s not planned!! Talent
That's why they are called session musicians...professional. Knowing every song is part of their job.
@@BroskiShortz The contestants registered the songs they'll perform so the band will practice before the show. Of course, they'll surely knows many songs through experience which makes it easier for them and practice only to make sure there's no slip up during the real show. But, other than the contestant's audition performance the band is really awesome to know and perform songs that are not even planned to be performed at first. Maybe a bit improv that deviate from the original to match the singers but even so it is really awesome.
@@joshuaamadeusishak1887 Also some of the musicians in this band regularly tour with Tom Jones so that helps too ;-) They are some of the best session Musicians in London - Scott Mckeon, Ben Jones and Ash Soan
Not only any song - but in any key as well.
That moment Tom said Go Ahead....then he smile... Like a proud dad it is.
The way Sir Tom smiles when Peter starts singing is awesome!!
I grew up listening to Lonnie all the old songs my dad had all of them . Si glad to see his son is also singing great voice as well . Like Father Like son .
When the Magic happens no one can explain. His father was around making that moment perfect.
That was the best ❤️
It's true❤️
This man is Icon, Legend. You can see it in Toms eyes when he is looking at Peter..this is a moment they will treasure forever. Tom, that is why you are a Sir.
Meanwhile, Tom lets his own son starve and be homeless because Tom feels like his Son's mom swindled him. That has nothing to do with the son and Tom should help the poor boy who literally has to busk in the streets. Tom gives one son everything and the other one nothing. So mean...
The lesson here is that great man never forgets the people that they encountered in their life
I love the way Tom says to him after they finished singing, "you look like your old man you know?" 😢
The Emotional duet that the people all over that world shocked and cried.
I second that emotion.

Tom Jones voice stands out so much just like Elvis Presley. You just know that voice!!! Love Tom Jones
Such a legend. My Idol Mr. Tom Jones.
They were close friends
This is the duet in the Voice that will be remembered for a long, long time. Tom Jones, you are incredible not only as a singer but as a man with a kind, humble and grateful heart. Peter Donegan, your composer-friend's son, and his family will treasure this magical moment for the rest of their lives.
This was an incredible moment. If you wrote it in a script, no one would believe it.
I feel like Mr.Donegan came to Earth for a breaf momments and whispered in Tom's ear...hey that's my son, our music lives on him tourn around

How can Sir Tom still sing this heavenly? This duet is pure magic...
He stayed in shape and kept working his voice.
Wow, wow and Wow
Been playing this several times, love the duet. Glad Tom pressed the bottom, that was a pure real moment ! Thanks to both of you !
Awesome
This has the most magical moment with Tom Jones and other singer on the Voice.
His rendition back in the day should go down as one of the classics, and never to be topped. Having said that, this version has a depth of feeling only an older singer with his experience could produce. Both gave me goosbumps. Well done Tom!
Peter you already win...that’s far more memorable than the actual win... that experience is already a huge accomplishment in itself 🙌
