Ps: Good video, when I was searching (back in 200*) there was nothing on You Tube. As you can tell by the video, it's second nature and some serious fun behind a well built transmission. Instant shifts with zero risk of over-shifting resulting damage.
I bought a car with this type of shifter. it has a turbo 350 transmission. it'll shift from neutral to third gear, but it will not downshift any...note that the ratcheting works, but the transmission will not go from 3rd to 2nd gear and 2nd gear to 1st gear. I can only run it in "D" or 3rd gear. Do you have any recommendations in regards to troubleshooting to get it to downshift? Thanks.
Thanks for the vid it was clear and understandable. Quick question I have a a 4L60E will it work with it? And yes im putting a shift kit for quick shifts and stay on 1st as long as you want :)
This particular model won't (3838500). That's a 3-speed (TF727, TH400, etc). I run a Carl Rossler built racing 4L80E and use a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 in my SRT/10 Ram. The 4-Speed version you require is Hurst Part # 3838511 but they are hard to find. Also, a shift kit won't give you a hard shift, it'll give you a sightly crisper shift. A good valve body, HD Kevlar rear bands, sprag kit, HD bands, pump, converter, etc, all those combined will give you neck snapping shifts. Good luck and have fun!
Benzino Coleone i wish mine shifted like this. seems to catch alot or get stuck. then coming out of first it wont shift up sometimes. looks like im gonna have to do some more digging
I am so glad you made this video..I have been wondering about this shifter for a long time. Now I only need to see how to fit it in my stock console without cutting it up. Any thoughts? My car is a 67 Coronet 500.
+TripleB99 i already have done this. mine fits perfectly in my factory console. a little cutting was needed but only on the inside. you cannot see any difference to the console between the hurst and the stock shifter.
leae it in D or 3rd like he said, and itll shift itself, or you can pull it down and ratchet shift it manually. it wont let you slam all the way into reverse or park.
Tony Travers No. if you shift into 3rd.. you CAN go into Nuetral from 3rd after letting the shifter return to the resting position... but you can't go past 3rd into nuetral accidently.

Brent Ridings sounds like a cable tension issue at the trans, I had to mess with mine a lot to make it work well
TripleB99 I took my cover off just now, the whole mechanism is pretty dry. Supposed to be like that? Or should I disassemble and grease the joints?
Brent Ridings there should be some grease on the friction points, but you'll need to make sure the fitment of the cable on the trans is good too

You might be able to, don't know about keeping your stock console though... some fitment issues are sure to arise.

Useful, thanks :)
So it's sort of like the idea of triptronic just not full auto ever?

These shifters pro matic 2 are JUNK!
Can you accidentally over shift shift into neutral ? say on 2-3 shift go 2 - N ? This looks idiot proof other wise.

im still lost
